1. First, I’m not a fan of anyone playing the gender card. Second, I’ve never seen Curry use the gender card. Frankly, if you’re a woman in a male dominated classification then you either develop coping mechanisms or you move on. My advice to young women is to really observe guys who use misogynist insults. In my experience they’re usually assholes to everyone and use anti-female insults because it’s easy and they’re too lazy think up effective, reasonable arguments. Charging them with sex based harassment more often brings other men to their side, not yours. Pointing out they’re assholes to everyone and is more effective. As is putting as much distance as possible between you and them because they won’t change and they’re not worth your time . They’re are exceptions, of course.
   Regarding CAGW: lukewarmers need to put alarmists on the defensive for a change. What would convince alarmists that the models run too hot? If the models are running too hot then how does that affect the social cost of carbon models? What would convince them that the price of mitigation (regulation, carbon pricing),based on a faulty calculation of the social cost of carbon, is significantly higher than the cost/benefits of mild or midrange warming?

2. I expect that the leftist AGW/climate change crowd, and yes, this bunch is almost exclusively leftist, goes after female scientists like Judith Curry, and Sallie Baliunas more viciously because they are perceived as more weak.

But, Kenji, it’s more than just the vicious attacks on two excellent women scientists who refused to bow to the received wisdom as promulgated my males, it’s the nasty attacks on any women who do not follow the leftist and progressive creed. It is shameful that Dr Margaret Somerville has been denied the Order of Canada because she is deemed to “controversial”, while the late Dr Henry Morgentaler was so honoured. And think of the attacks on strong women – Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandi, and Golda Meir being three such. Look at the attacks both in Canada and the US on any “conservative” woman.

10. Impressive Frances ! You certainly have the credentials, direct experience, and proper gender (it doesn’t sound right to say “proper sex”) to comment on the topic. I am just an interloper, but one who certainly shares your acknowledgement that “certain” STRONG-without-a-DOUBT women are marginalized and ignored because they espouse conservative values. Thatcher was/is absolutely vilified despite all her successes. Despite her Churchillian resolve and nerve.
    The latest marginalized, nay – vilified successful conservative woman is KellyAnn Conway. There would already be 10-page articles written about her in the New Yorker, Atlantic, NYT’s, Time mag. etc. if she were operating a successful Democrap presidential campaign. She would be celebrated for her massive IQ, experience, analytical skills, etc. … were she a LIBERAL woman.
    As it is she just gets RIPPED for her “flat hair” and “seating posture”.
