“lance says… Irony: “I’m not afraid.” Gun talk follows shortly thereafter.”
lance, don’t confuse being prepared with being paranoid.
as a one-time holder of an [unnamed state] ccw, who was once in the uncomfortable position of being menaced by a group of over-enthusiastic, disenfranchised residents of [unnamed city] in the “land of the brave”, i can tell you unequivocally, regardless of your level of apprehension, it is much better to be armed and ready when the barbarians do show up… than to be standing there with empty hands and urine running down your leg.
i did not end up having to pull in this particular situation because, despite being very obviously targeted by said group of persons, they suddenly ceased their rather loud tribal jocularity and crossed the street and disappeared.
the person with me at the time (also armed) pointed out that i had unwittingly cleared my jacket in preparation to draw, a motion i had practised many, many times at the firing range as an ipsc shooter.
had i not been armed, i feel certain the situation would have had a much less happy ending.
fwiw, my hands shook like a mother****** for 10 minutes after the encounter… no doubt the adrenalin leaving my system. it was in no way a pleasant situation and i do not celebrate the memory. i am thankful that it turned out as it did.
was i scared after the fact? no doubt. would i have been able to function? yes. if i had had to draw my weapon, muscle memory and a clear idea of what was required (7 shots, drop mag, reload, re-engage) would have carried the day. fortunately, it did not come to that.
no idea what most people would do in the event, but should you choose to break into my house at 3:00 am looking to harm me or mine, you should look to your life.
unlike prime minister care bear, i won’t go without a fight. i suspect kate wouldn’t either, lance. how about you?

  2. Neo, I have zero problems with firearms. I would like concealed and open carry in Canada. This is not about firearms.
I was responding to the emotional and testosterone laced commentators who apparently completely missed the juxtaposition of the “We are not afraid” snowflakes and the evidence that yes, they do seem to be scared.
Let me assure you that many fronts on the Internet representing or claiming to represent our enemy did not miss the symbolism, the video is all over that space with the appropriate commentary.
    BZ on your training.

    okay, i get that.
the misconceptions about firearms and personal defense in this country are legion.
what people don’t realise is that the average “gun nut” in canada spends more time on the shooting range in one weekend that the average cop does in a year.
who do you think shoots straighter and is safer to be around?
ps… i knew half a dozen guys who could reliably hit a dinner plate sized target at 150 feet with a handgun… all day long.
cops typically qualify once a year at 30 to 45 feet.

“occam says… traded these two bench guns for a .338 Lapua – “
    i’m envious.
my age and physical state (a bad motorcycle wreck) dictate that i stay away from 30 cal boomers… i’d get one cold shot and be hurtin’ too much to follow up… but i still want to shoot.
my other rifle in 223 rem seems to be the right tool for the job.
