  1. Why should Americans die to prevent Shiites and Sunnis from killing each other. Permanently garrisoning the Islamic wastelands, even “if” acceptable is a non-starter when the US military has to exist through election cycles and policy flip-flops. It’s so politicized now that JAGs have to approve everything. Even Kyle wrote that every kill had to be “justified” to the JAGs for fear of being charged with murder.

Since all 3 sides (Shia, sunni and kurd)hated us long before we interfered with the natural balance of despot survival, I suggest we just let them kill each other off, as picking winners and losers is none of our business. Let’s be clear about this, we only have one friend over there and that’s Israel. As for the rest of them, let them do what brings them the greatest joy, and that’s killing each other and westerners whenever the opportunity arises. Their oil is Europe’s problem since we really don’t need it. They are not our brothers and we are not our brothers keepers. Not every life is precious and they place zero value on a infidels life, so we can at least respect that and make it mutual. The idea that we can ever bring peace or democracy to the middle east can only be a drug induced dream or incredibly competent lobbying by the arms industry. Anything less than abject apathy is doomed to failure. Lets show we care by not giving a damn.

    It dragged on fer about 10 years and both sides of the COLD WAR sensibly hoped they would both loose.
    Then the bas****s figured it out and quit.
    Seemed things had calmed down although there was some concern about Saddam’s antics….like gassing kurds.
    Then Saddam forced our hands by invading Kuwait…

    Getting the yanks to defund/evict the UN would be a positive step…..let them find their own venue…and pay for it.
    The UN became irrevelevant back in ’67 when Nasser told the UN troops in the Sinai to leave…..and it’s been downhill ever since.

    Some ME comentators explain the ISIS motive is to make blending into the crowd easier…..and that ISIS now refrains from flying flags and driving military vehicles(except for photo-ops)….
