In case you have $1.3 Billion in extra pocket change that’s weighing you down, just give it to the Los Angeles Unified School District and they’ll quickly find a way to get rid of it for you. That’s the amount of money they wasted on a program that provided over 120,000 iPads for various uses. It’s a textbook example of how Big Business benefits from Big Government.

Ah c’mon. Let’s not go too hard on the LA Unified School District. After all, this is a one-time program. We Canadian taxpayers seem quite content to urinate away a billion plus dollars on a totally useless state broadcaster and we do it year after year after year.
Bad Link?
They paid $10,833 EACH for ipads?????
Just copy the important stuff in the link or copy and paste this:

Apple is the world’s largest company and on par with drug pushers. They foist over-priced stuff on a vulnerable population of brainwashed weenies who abhor capitalism yet line up to buy the latest overpriced iSomething. Ironic, wot?
To quote Dave Barry from his 2011 year in review article:
In technology news, Apple releases the iPhone that comes after the iPhone 4, which was rumored to be named the “5,” but which instead is named — talk about innovation — the “4S.” It is of course a huge hit with Apple fans, who, upon purchasing it, immediately form new lines outside Apple stores to await the next breakthrough iPhone, preliminarily rumored to be named the “4.7.”
1.3 billion still cheaper than the CBC that only 7% of the population watch anyway .
that’s 600 bucks per viewer . foisted upon the rest of us .
to paraphrase Jeremy Wright GodDamn the CBC
I don’t understand it worked perfectly on our small testing site of the app and the iPad. Oh, we didn’t test it, just assumed it would work. Oh well, its not as it its our money.
I had commented on this initiative to my wife when it first got underway. I think I said, “what could possibly go wrong?”
Checking Apple’s website, I find the Ipad Air 2 (most expensive model, exclusive of those with ‘cellular’ capacity) priced from $549 (16GB) to $769 for 128GB. That’s if you buy just one. Surely when you’re buying tens of thousands at a time you’d get a deal.
So if you’re using your ‘pad for a particular curriculum, I’m going to assume that 16GB should be sufficient – yet they’ve paid $768 per (not including the specialty program).
This is what happens when you get ‘morally and intellectually superior’ people playing with taxpayer money with a social justice/equality motivation.
A school superintendent who obviously lacks any math skills let alone negotiation skill. Got to be some kickbacks going on somewhere.
Look up the Citizens Against Goverment waste and their Pig Book and look at some of the boggist wastes of tax dollars North,East,South and West of the Pecos
I have as a client a medium size private school in Houston, TX. I manage over 450 iPads and it’s almost a full time job just for me, and I use an MDM (mobile device management) tool. I can’t imagine the manpower needed to manage 120,000 iPads. You can’t just hand the iPads to users, especially students. There are apps that are needed, WiFi settings to configure, profiles, internet security issues to address. Clearly someone was not thinking with a brain.
It’s interesting we are looking away for waste. I feel Saskatchewan has wasted 1.3 billion on co2 capture by Sask. Power. It seems the white Elephant that no one mentions. There are multiple areas in Saskatchewan that our money could be used. Global warming and climate change are natural occuring phenomena. Mankind is not affecting them!
