  1. Save the Turtles
    Environmentalists take on Big Wind.
    http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/turtles-vs-turbines-ontario-court-case-could-have-widespread-repercussions-1.2137721

At issue is a proposed nine-turbine wind farm at Ostrander Point south of Belleville on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Prince Edward County Field Naturalists Club had successfully argued before the province’s environmental review tribunal that the project on the 324-hectare site would threaten Blanding’s turtles in the area.

Gilead Power, through its Ostrander Point Wind Energy, had Divisional Court overturn that decision in February. It argued the tribunal had made a half-dozen errors in concluding the project would cause “serious and irreversible” harm to the turtles.

  2. Soon today on a pump at Costco on Broadmoor Blvd. in Edmonton, Ab.–81.4 cents a liter.
John Galt: My apolagies on last night’e posting of gas prices at Costco on Yellowhead Trail–that was in Edmonton–not Calgary–and yes that was per liter–not per gallon!!
As someone who despises Trudeau and the Metric system–I should have know better!

  3. Corrected:
Soon today on a pump at Costco on Broadmoor Blvd. in Edmonton, Ab.–81.4 cents a liter.
John Galt: My apologies on last night’s posting of gas prices at Costco on Yellowhead Trail–that was in Edmonton–not Calgary–and yes that was per liter–not per gallon!!
As someone who despises both Trudeaus–Pierre Elliot and Justin– and the Metric system–I should have known better!
Interesting to note that Pierre Elliott and (Justin)–who bash our Western Canadian oil industry–thrived on their father’s (grandfather’s) chain of gas stations.

  4. It’s good to see prices less than $1/liter. Nonetheless, almost all our fuel in Western Canada comes from Canadian wells, and $1.50 / liter for diesel fuel was outrageous, and now it’s $1.40 which isn’t much better. There is no reason we should be paying fuel prices that high for Canadian oil products.

Would be fun chasing them around with a Yamaha YZ-450
    Just kidding–just kidding!

  6. There is something seriously wrong with your ‘captcha”. I tried at least 10 times – while sober – and could not get my message to go thru. I guess I’m pretty much done – not that it will cause much grief in my life. G’bye…………

  7. I gotta admit, after watching the “Lone Survivor” movie … I enjoyed watching the Taliban getting killed. I thought about Taliban Jack …

  8. Re: Captcha
I’ve met Bob L’Heureux and seen his letters in the Leader Post and other Sask. publications. Trust me when I tell you that he’s a straight shooter–a strong supporter of freedom of expression–and has reason to be upset by the Captcha and it’s glitches!
I know the feeling! Like–there must a way of fixing it!

  9. Too much Solar Energy grounds F-35 ‘camel’craft.
After a year of several fleet-wide groundings for the F-35, the latest problem to plague the fifth-generation fighter is forcing the U.S. Air Force to revamp an entirely separate fleet [of fuel trucks] to support the military’s most expensive plane yet.
The F-35 can only fly on jet fuel under a certain temperature due to a range of heating issues attributed to the F-35B variant’s short takeoff and vertical landing engine. According to the USAF, the dark-green trucks that carry that fuel absorb too much heat from the sun to keep the planes in the sky.

  10. Maybe you should buy new glasses or sober up. Posted on the first try after several rum and cokes.

  11. The captcha is female. When she’s good, she’s very good but when she’s bad I’ve had to hit her 3 or 4 times. She enjoys pissing you off but if you complain she will grab you by the administrator and hold you indefinitely. She gets bitchy at certain times of the month , but you can’t take it personally as she treats everyone the same way. She’s the guardian of the gate and sometimes she takes it a bit too seriously. Unfortunately no male captcha’s wanted the job (minimum wage) and now we’re stuck with her.

  12. Toronto Star, Saturday, Dec. 6. How the liberal media twists the news:
    http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2014/12/05/breastfeeding_moms_may_have_to_sit_in_the_corner_says_uk_party_leader.html
The issue: Claridge’s, a luxury hotel in London, asked a woman to be discreet while breastfeeding her child in its restaurant. UKIP leader Nigel Farage defended the hotel but others, including PM Cameron, condemned it, and him.
Re Farage: “‘If the establishment in question, in this case Claridge’s, wants to maintain rules about this stuff, then that is up to them,’ he said. ‘I remarked that perhaps they might ask women to sit in a corner. Did I say I believe they should have to? No. Did I say I personally endorse this concept? No.'”
Personally I think it’s preferable: (1) that infants young enough to be breastfed be indulged whenever and wherever they want it; (2) that disappearing into a washroom, which was the accepted former “solution”, should not be necessary; and (3) that people and businesses should adopt a more lenient attitude toward the subject. But the purveyors of political correctness apparently believe that nursing women should be encouraged to and indeed have a “right” to draw as much attention to themselves as is humanly possible.
And the liberal media labels it a “gaffe” to hold on to previously long-established attitudes.

  13. Bob,
I too have a lot of problems with the cpatcha which is why I very rarely post comments anymore.
and this is probably why there are so few comments now…there used to be hundreds before this captcha thing appeared

  14. Bob – the captcha is time sensitive. If you don’t enter it fast enough (within a couple of minutes) it will time out. If you are writing long responses/comments, always preview the comment. This refreshes the captcha and re-starts the timer. I don’t post much, but I haven’t had a problem with the captcha since I started previewing every message.

  15. If it screws up, the best approach is to click preview for your message and a new captcha code is displayed.

  16. Reuters – All Michael Brown, all the time…
    ————————————————-
NEW YORK, Dec 9 (Reuters) – New York police shot and killed a man armed with a knife early Tuesday after he stabbed a rabbinical student from Israel in the head in a Brooklyn synagogue, police and the synagogue said.
The man who was shot was black and the officer who did the shooting is Hispanic, a spokesman for the New York Police Department said. Several recent police killings of unarmed African-American men, and grand jury decisions not to indict the police officers involved, have triggered racially tinged protests over police use of force.

“Senators challenge commentator who blames imams for spread of Islamism”
“Most mosques in Canada are “incubators of Islamism,” a controversial Muslim commentator told a startled parliamentary committee Monday, an assertion that was challenged by the panel.
“Any legitimacy given to them as a matter of community or political outreach only further entrenches the practitioners of Islamism disguised as religion and spreading their ideology,” Salim Mansur, a provocative University of Western Ontario academic, told a Senate inquiry into national security threats facing Canada.
He blamed imams and what he sees as the failed policy of multiculturalism for helping radicalize young Muslims and others to embrace jihadi doctrine.”

  18. After changing my approach I have had ZERO problems with captcha.
Ideas: compose your post off line (I often use notes on my iPad mini, esp. if using html formatting).
    Preview your comment. Edit.
Even when you know your comment is final hit preview again.
    Then enter your captcha.
Unsure, can’t read it, hit preview again and until you have a clearly legible captcha.
And of course make sure your handle and email address are there in the preview.
If you get a rejected comment, hit refresh in the navigation bar. It asks if you want to submit the form again. Sounds complicated but it really isn’t.
Remember KATE is a MENSA member. She will have no empathy for people who can’t handle this little embedded IQ test.
This timeless comment was previewed 4-5 times.

  19. If this helps.
I compose my comment, type capcha and hit preview, then edit and type capcha. I rarely have a problem.

  20. The auditor reveals it cost $1.9 billion to install Smart Meters across the province. The government originally told the public the cost would be closer to $1 billion.
    Smart Meter analysis was flawed
The auditor found the Energy Ministry did not do a cost-benefit analysis before cabinet approved the Smart Meter program. A business case was done after the roll-out began, but Lysyk says the analysis was flawed.
“Its projected net benefit of $600 million was overstated by at least $512 million,” said Lysyk. “The Ministry has neither updated the projected costs and benefits nor tracked the actual costs to determine the actual net benefits.”
Lysyk says Smart Meters are not reducing demand for electricity at peak times, although that was the key reason for launching the program.

  22. “Thousands of people march with Pegida, the group that wants to ban Islamic immigrants”
“WHEN the first protest of its kind was held in Germany in October, only a few hundred people turned up. Now, the weekly Monday night demonstration attracts crowds of up to 10,000.
As Germany emerges as a haven for international immigrants – second only to the US in popularity – huge swathes of the population are intent on keeping certain people out.
The group behind the marches is called Pegida – a German acronym that stands for Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West, in English.
Thousands of supporters are regularly braving sub-zero temperatures to march under its banner.”

    A Spanish Newspaper
The truth must be told! All European life died in Auschwitz
    By Sebastian Vilar Rodrigez*
I walked down the street in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth – Europe died in Auschwitz.
We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, and talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world.”
