Operation Empty Chair

Dana Milbank:

By Monday afternoon, the crises had forced Obama to revise his schedule. The White House announced that the president, after returning from the beach, would make an unscheduled statement about Iraq. He freshened up at his 8,100-square-foot vacation home, then stepped outside, in a blue blazer and open collar; his aides wisely chose a wooded backdrop rather than one with the infinity pool and the sweeping water views. Obama finished his four-minute statement and then hopped in his motorcade for the ride to a Democratic fundraiser.

  1. On the one hand, the Imperial Presidency is beyond reproach but on the other, does any rational person really want him actively signing imperial edits and commanding the troops. He should stay on vacation forever even on the taxpayer’s dime as it’s likely cheaper than the alternative.

  2. Is this guy always on vacation? I mean, really. I get three weeks a year plus a few Golden Days. I wouldn’t mind more, but I like my job and I like to stay on top of it. How can this guy do nothing but travel and stay at fancy resorts? It’s ridiculous.

  3. “Empty Chair” is most apt. Obama not running things isn’t a problem, in fact it’s a good thing. The problem is that while Obama isn’t running things, neither is a there a real person running things, just an empty chair.

  4. Oh, the chair isn’t empty at all. Valerie Jarret is sitting in it and running the show, just like she does when the pResident is actually at the White House.

  5. Classic progressive.
His latest excuse?”Look what you made me do”.
The problem of all pathological liars , keeping your story straight.
I won I pulled our troops out of a secure and stable Iraq.
I mean the PM of Iraq pushed us out.
Umm Bush, blame bush.. Bush is evil.
Congratulation to all you progressive types, he is yours.
Or do you use the same evasion, projection techniques?

  6. The fact that the world is burning is so inconvenient and possibily even disappointing for the dear leader but at least his home agenda is progressing as planned, the one to turn America into a Socialist single party nation.

  7. Mr Zero is nothing more than an electable figurehead, much like JT in Kanukstan. It matters not what he is doing, the decisions are made by his handlers, he only announces them between golf games and fund-raising tours.

  8. Days on “vacation” since assuming presidency:
    Obama: 129
    Bush Jr: 381
    “Vacation” trips since assuming presidency:
    Obama: 20
    Bush: 58
