I’m not suggesting an armoured division but a mechanized brigade in the Green zone and another at the airport, would be more appropriate……or just go home.
Definitely not an ideal situation. However, if push comes to shove, I’d put my money on 100 Marines over any number of attacking savages.
And John Kerry has now said that ISIS cannot take Baghdad in the near term, which, as the link below states, probably means that ISIS will take Baghdad by the end of the day (I was going to say the end of the week, but, then, I’m a cautious guy).

When ISIS surrounds the US Embassy in Baghdad; I’m sure the State Dept will issue a statement containing the phrase “What difference does it make?”.
This is a planned conflict, as it is farcical to believe that they didn’t have enough surveillance intelligence, to see ISIS simply driving en masse down the highway heading towards Baghdad.
100 Marines will be sufficient to recreate the “The Last Stand at the Alamo” for the benefit of the movie cameras whilst the helicopters airlift the last stranded Americans before they have their craniums removed via lengthy sharpened steel edges…

Yes, a hundred U.S. Marines can hold that Embassy against any number of irregulars no matter how savage and devoted to their cause the attackers are.
Until the ammunition runs out. Then if all you hold is the Embassy you can not support its garrison and they must surrender or be overrun in heroic and useless defeat. In that event they will become trophies, live or dead, to be displayed to the world and the President will be as angry as anyone when he first hears about it, in the news like everyone else, and then make no mistake, he will get to the bottom of it and folks will be held to account. Gotta go now, tee off in an hour.

The embassy shouldn’t be reinforced, it should be evacuated. It’s unlikely ISIS can take Baghdad but what is there to gain from staying there? America should have pulled everything once they got Sadaam.
It’s an Islamist surge. We know they’ve just received a large injection with holy robbery, I mean war, in Iraq. As long as it remains an internal Islamist power struggle, we should stay out of it as much as possible.
Calm down, you don’t need more marines, the Iraqi army will stand and fight to protect the embassy. Right?
BTW, be reasonable, I don’t think a 100 marines can hold off 1000 or so hate filled fearless fighters. This is real life, not a John Wayne Green Beret movie.

With the disgrace of the Benghazi debacle still fresh in the minds of the free world it appears they’ve learned nothing and the same conditions are shaping up for a repeat of that shameful disaster.
The embassy will make a lovely spot for tired Jihadists. Who weary of chopping heads & crucifying Christians.A vacation retreat to bring vigour for the next round of genocide.

Hans has it right. 100 marines are relatively easy to airlift off of the embassy roof during the evacuation with the support of attack helicopters and other aircraft shooting up the camels and captured Iraqi armoured equipment.

Ah, red jeff, I’m not suggesting they should waste those hundred Marines on holding the Embassy. If they aren’t going to deploy enough force to hold a viable position (it would have to include an airhead and dominate enough ground around that to suppress attacks on the aircraft coming and going) they should start booby-trapping the place and bug out.
