  1. A young farmer from Digby County has found a way to get bigger, heavier eggs for his customers.
    Thian Carman, 15, has been playing music to his chickens on Meadow Brother’s Farm in an attempt to get more bang for his cluck.
    Carman, who is Nova Scotia’s youngest registered farmer, heard some dairy farmers play music for their cattle in order to get them to relax and produce more milk.
    He thought the same principle could work for his chicken flock and decided to test that theory for his science fair experiment.
    “I decided to play two kinds of music, country and classical, just because I figured they’re a country animal, they might like country music,” said Carman.
    The results were interesting.
    Carman concluded his chickens were more “mellow” on Mozart.
    “It can relax them. Everybody works better when there’s music on,” he said.
    Carman found eggs produced while chickens listened to classical music were significantly bigger and heavier than those that did not listen to music. In fact, the jumbo egg cartons Carman usually uses for his eggs were too small for the “classical” eggs.
    Interestingly, the eggs produced while chickens listened to country music weighed more than the control but were not bigger in size.

    Dr. Anthony Levitt, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s director of research in the department of psychiatry, agrees climate-change anxiety increasingly enters into the discussions he has with many of the young people who come to see him. “Younger people [teens to mid-20s] appear to be much more accepting of the science and facts than older people,” Levitt observes. He’s also seen an uptick in climate-change-related anxiety in parents with younger children.
    “For most people who are anxious about climate change, the anxiety is escalated by the fact they do not see an answer or a way to make a change. Worry plus powerlessness leads to distress,” says Levitt, who is also a professor in the psychiatry department at the University of Toronto…

  10. “Worry plus powerlessness leads to distress” Lots of us are worried that the climate change fear mongers are going to get away with this scam. We feel powerless and don’t know how to bring the population back to common sense. So I guess you would have to say there is distress all around.

  12. Why the Left Always Support Causes Against Family Values
    The long-term goal of leftist governmental social policies are to level society into one collective. There will be only the state and the individual, and the individual will have no protection, no mediating institutions, between itself and the state.
    Antipathy towards a wide variety of family value groups–the Catholic Church, the Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, etc.-can all be understood in light of this fact. Socialist governments reserve special hatred for the family, because the family is older than the state and, unless steps are taken, will outlast it. It gives the individual a focus of attention besides the state, and therefore, must be crushed. The ongoing destruction of the concepts of family values by the left is intended to remove permanently the strong, loving, family from the political sphere. Family values and religion are being stricken from the public mind through our education system, entertainment industry, media, and the left.
    When Family and God have been removed, people can only look to the state for solace in our imperfect world.
    That’s why Stalin and Mao stamped out religion and had children reporting on their parents to the state.
    In the past it wasn’t referred to as the ‘left’ or the ‘right’, it was simply called good and evil.

  14. Unsatisfying as it may be to contemplate, the United States needs to come to terms with the fact that it has a problem of the heart and not of the law. The material questions here are, “Why do so many children in America wish to massacre and maim their schoolmates?”; “Why are so many teenagers obsessed with the abomination at Columbine?”; and “What on earth can be pushing young men to carefully plan the execution of their families?” Spending our time debating which regulations we might impose upon the content and the law-abiding may feel good, but, in a country with this many firearms, it is ultimately futile. America has a school shooting problem, and the operative word is “school.”

  23. Since 11am, every time I’ve looked outside it’s been snowing. I’ve got + 6 inches in my back yard although all on the street just melts.
    We’re only a few inches of precip. above living in a desert, but I’ve nothing really civil to say on this matter of 3rd of May snow…
