What We Really Need Is Democracy

With a US-armed al-Qaeda to vote for;

‘The United States switched sides in the war on terror with what we did in Libya, knowingly facilitating the provision of weapons to known al-Qaeda militias and figures,’ Clare Lopez, a member of the commission and a former CIA officer, told MailOnline.
She blamed the Obama administration for failing to stop half of a $1 billion United Arab Emirates arms shipment from reaching al-Qaeda-linked militants.
‘Remember, these weapons that came into Benghazi were permitted to enter by our armed forces who were blockading the approaches from air and sea,’ Lopez claimed. ‘They were permitted to come in. … [They] knew these weapons were coming in, and that was allowed..
‘The intelligence community was part of that, the Department of State was part of that, and certainly that means that the top leadership of the United States, our national security leadership, and potentially Congress – if they were briefed on this – also knew about this.’

  1. What was this blog’s motto before Kate changed it to “progressive puke”? Something about being nice to our enemies will not make them our friends? I think that was the administration’s Libya strategy. Which worked out so well of course for Ambassador Stevens and the Seals. Obama’s smarter than the room though. Or something.

  2. Yet another foreign policy disaster by the US, following Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Still keeps digging a bigger hole by sticking its nose into other situations, projecting that rebels around the world will emulate the US revolution.
The fact the US keeps supporting Islamic causes should give you clue how clueless it has become.

  3. This is not just because the Obama administration is incompetent (they are). It is mainly because they are corrupt and hell bent on destroying the ability of the US to function.
They do not care about pleasing the enemies of the US but rather seek to empower them.
This does not take much in the way of brains or effort … making it the natural path for Obama.

  4. Never forget that Libya was just fine until France(and UK) recognized al Qaeda as the new de facto government just as Gaddafi was about to administer the coup de grace in Benghazi.
That foreign policy blunder imperiled France’s(and UK’s) oil supply and would have made Europe more dependent on Russia for energy.
That, I believe, is why NATO had to become al Qaeda’s official Air Force and overthrow Gaddafi.
Also let’s not forget that both Russia and China vetoed NATO action in Libya in the UN security counsel but NATO went ahead anyhow just as they have several times.

  5. This is the link to the Benghazi murders, and why the State Dept. allowed for no interference. After brokering the arms deal, the ambassador was out on a limb and nobody was going to admit they knew what was happening.

  6. Knew about it … hell, I knew about it and I just a dork from Vancouver island. That scenario was reported early on …. It was already known the the USA was gun running in more than one direction. Once you understand that the Obama administration hates the west and everything it stands for … you can understand what is going on. He emboldens our enemies and supplies them with arms. He is creating global anarchy … just look around … It’s all at the expense of the Western world.
We need a revolution in the USA right now.

  7. The US had to reward al Quaeda, which sprang from the mujahadeed awakening sponsored by the US as proxy warriors against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. Osama bin Laden got his start in Afghanistan as a US proxy warrior.
So now, the US has to support every Islamic cause that springs up, while doing nothing against the Islamic state of Iran.
Say what you will about Putin, at least he does not tolerate Islamic actions, like the Moscow theatre hostage crisis of 2002.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_theater_hostage_crisis
It’s a complicated world out there and there’s much to be admired about the strong response by Putin as opposed to the weak-kneed wimp in the White House who continues the appeasement of Islamist extremists, which is central to US foreign policy around the world.

  8. Speculation is that the plan was to capture the ambassador and trade him for the blind shiek. That is why the order to “stand down” was given three times. The fact that that order was ignored is what caused the death of 4 US citizens. The fact that the order to stand down was given tells us something about the US government’s dealings with terrorist groups.

  9. The west doesn’t have any “friends” in the mid east outside of Israel. There isn’t a “good side” to islam.

  10. Never forget that Libya was just fine until France(and UK) recognized al Qaeda as the new de facto government just as Gaddafi was about to administer the coup de grace in Benghazi.
That’s a lie. Libya was a dictatorship prior to the revolution, and there was no way Qaddafi was going to win even if he crushed Benghazi. Every state in the region wanted him out. The Qataris alone would’ve provided enough support to the rebels to keep it going. Syria’s government has far more support and they’re not going to win the war there ever.

  11. Was there ever an Islamic cause Obama never loved?
He has created more sharia law states, than almost any caliphate in history.
He belongs to his god allah & propitiates the normal human sacrifice involved in this cult. Only he uses drones.
Since he hates America is it any surprise he would make common cause with its enemies?

  12. spinal crap
go reread the article you fool
Oooz, obumbles was all in for letting the Muzzy Brotherhood take over from KaDaffy duck, and that is why Obumbles was against intervening. Obumbles has Brotherhood connected muzzies in the white house, plus Mrs. Weiner (Abden) to encourage his love for the brotherhood terrorists.

  13. All of which was fully supported by SDA left wing apologists LAS & ET.
No comments from either of them lately, yes.

  14. “Libya was a dictatorship prior to the revolution[No Shit Sherlock did you Just Learn That?], and there was no way Qaddafi was going to win even if he crushed Benghazi.”
Gaddafi was 24 hours away from defeating the Islamists and Gaddafi’s Libya had the highest standard of living in Africa.
It took round the clock airstrikes launched from Europe to prevent Gaddafi’s imminent victory.
    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/mar/15/gaddafi-defeat-rebels-pays-off
Benghazi was it, doofus. You clearly have no idea about the history of Benghazi, Libya’s second city, as a recruiting base for al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan, and as a crossing point for Jihadists to stay in Libya.

  15. Nope wrong. Even if Qaddhafi had taken Benghazi completely, he would not have ended the rebellion. The rebels would have kept operating out of the Nuba mountains with oodles of support from all over the Arab world.
Gaddafi’s Libya had the highest standard of living in Africa.
According to the UN, which I don’t care about. Their living standard is even higher now.

  16. “Their living standard is even higher now.”
Yeah the UN would claim that, after bombing Libya to rubble.
I doubt Libya’s been rebuilt yet, especially the living standard.
As to the ‘rebels’ running around the Nuba mountains occasionally shooting into the air , Gaddafi wouldn’t have cared because governments aren’t overthrown that way and despite your fantasy opinion about ‘oodles of Arab support’ keeping them in the fight the al Qaeda rebels were being crushed in Benghazi in real life and were running for the border.

    “Citation?”
Bang, I knew I’d draw you out LAS!
No citation required, the SDA archives have volumes of your “opinions” on the matter.
