  1. >>>Most people probably assume ………. are based on accurate, actual measurements.

  2. This is typical of the problems with “Global Warming” models. We can’t model well enough to actually see what is going on. We have a lot of theories, but they are all flaky in the extreme. We can’t even determine whether or not there is a long term historical trend.

  3. The late John Daley did some interesting investigation on this. I think his familly still maintains his web site. Google.

  4. hockey schtick quality sea level rise measurements, how quaint? Because water is , like air, fluid, you are fighting a large demon when you try and measure them for any quality.

  5. I would just like to point out, that it is not unusual, in real science, to have to apply corrections to one’s data that are many times greater than the magnitude of the anomaly you wish to measure. But these corrections are to be applied even-handedly, and not in such a way as to bias the result.
As an example, I would point you to the process of making a gravity survey using a gravity meter.
But I am certainly suspicious of time-variant corrections that have the same sign as the effect they are purported to measure. Just to damned convenient.

  6. Take the hockey stick, mark off feet and inches, plant it a few feet from shore and take frequent measurements. In a few years you’ll have a reasonable picture of what’s going on. No need to launch satellites, tweak algorithms or run recalc’s and fudge numbers. My opinion, if they can’t keep track of a 200′ X 200′ plane with satellite tracking and communications equipment installed, in addition to land, sea, and air based radar systems running 24/7, then they can’t tell if the sea rose 0.250 inches. As Kate said in an earlier post, it’s all BS.

  7. We are no longer shocked by dodgy data. On the contrary, we have come to expect it. Isn’t that a sorry state of affairs.

  8. gord, problem is that do they use the “adjustment math properly? As MacIntyre showed with the hockey schtick, not always. When I took up how to do a study, adjustments were always the big question mark, as, the “studier’s” bias tended to hamper the process.

  9. Climatology is science as done by Progressives.
The modelling method is Garbage In, Gospel Out.
    Modelling from ignorance by choice.
The whole Catastrophic warming meme is made up from fudging the data far beyond the claimed significance of the signal.
A claimed warming of 0.5 to 0.8 C from a measuring system with an observation error of +/- 1C and instrument error of the same, so a potential error of 4C in the written records, yet this is used to claim unprecedented warming of 0.6C..
The imaginary sea level rise, which is it? Land rebounding from the ice age? Estuaries sinking as biomass rots?Dammed rivers no longer able to replenish shorelines at their mouths?
    CAGW.
It is an intelligence test. One that has exposed the fools and bandits who inhabit our bureaucracies.

  10. “…dodgy data. … we have come to expect it. …a sorry state of affairs.”
Actually it was a much sorrier state of affairs when all the dodgy data was being used for this scam and we hadn’t yet realised.

  11. 50% of the population is dumber than average! a Brit whom had lived I Bermuda for 5 years told me emphatically there were no tides in Bermuda as it was close to the equator and he had observed this. Have to love the internet. I pulled up the tide tables for the harbour he lived by. He had no explanation, he was a warmist.

  12. The Brits are more gullible than most. Who in their right minds would reject Churchill in favour of a socialist and then continue that travesty for 60 years? Just look at Britain today, the vast majority of people immigrating in are ‘turd worlders’ looking for benefits. The smart Brits (oxymoron alert) are skedaddling to other parts of the white world and sharing their superior intelligence with us. Tell your Bermuda buddy to sod off. Zimbabwe would be a good destination for him, they’re 20 -30 years ahead of Britain in degrading their social environment.

  13. Cal, “50% of the population is dumber than average!”….depends on your definition of average:-)))My SIL who has a 137SBS IQ happens to be “dumber than average” on many issues:-)))

  14. Pick a mythology of measurement that is inaccurate and then you can make the necessary corrections to get the desired results. Works for Mann & Gore.
Normally Calibration is done as the reference starting point.

  15. So which global warmist said, “The way to get the most accurate measurements is to find the longest yardstick you and find and from the far end take a reading.”? I’m not sure myself but it had to be a warmist who thought that it would be a good idea to measure in millimetres the distance to the surface of a transparent fluid from a satellite 23,000 miles away.

  16. Yep and then there’s that irritating thing called “sea state”….
I guess these loons assume a dead calm….
Boy, would they get exited about 10′ swells….

  17. This is akin to listening to a donut maker describe how to do a brake job.
There are professionals, geophysicists, cartographers, and global surveyors who are the ONLY ones to trust regarding official sea level measurements.
Anybody else is a shill, frankly.

  18. The notion that humans cause the planet to warm and the climate to change is just another made-up religion. That’s what people who don’t understand earth science do when something changes and they don’t know why. The priests used to be called ‘witch doctors’ now they’re called ‘climate scientists’.
What humans DO cause is toxic pollution, lots of it. However toxic pollution is very profitable so the polluters fund the gullible believers in the global-warming-climate-change religion so they create a media fueled distraction that allows the toxic pollution to be conveniently ignored. It’s so easy to fool sheeple.
