In tonight’s entertainment en route to the Tips we listen to Schüpferi-Meitli, the winners of SRF’s (Swiss Radio and Television’s) amateur “Alpenrose” contest: From left to right, here are Silvia and Anita Bucher (a florist and a cook respectively) and hand-organist Daniel Waser (a carpenter by profession) performing Has Juize im Bluet.
I don’t know what the song title means; Google Translate just spits it back verbatim. Hans? Are you out there?

  11. Some background information on the situation in Venezuela before tomorrow morning’s march through the streets of Caracas.
    Leopoldo Lopez will be leading a march through the streets, defying the Maduro gov’t of Venezuela.. After the recent murders in the streets, it remains to be seen if calm will prevail, or lightning will strike.

    Leopoldo Lopez is expected to defy the President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and lead a march through the streets of Caracas tomorrow morning. Who knows if they’ll be lightning? The murders by the regime are still fresh memories.

    Could be a local dialect. I have friends who speak High German and who tell me that certain Mennonites and Hutterites speak dialects that are old German, not even similar to modern German.

  20. If one looks at the overall trend since say… 1990, the numbers just aren’t out of whack. There’s been about 800,000 additional people added to the Missouri population, and since 2007 there’s been a significant addition to the unemployment numbers, or “disabled and given up looking” numbers as the current B. Hussien administration might view it. Rapes are down, auto theft is down by 50%, general robbery and other violent crimes are all trending downwards since 1990, and as I’ve already said, the added population ads to the falling rate.
    The headline is a snippet of the big picture, something the BBC and “climate social scientists” are famous for.

  23. …exactly my conclusion too. The people who are getting murdered are the ‘bad guys’ not normal people. The study shows that when police services fail due to budget cuts, armed citizens can do a pretty good job of justice on their own.

  24. Is the CBC / Globe and Mail going to boycott the Olympics and other organized sporting events when athletes start to simply “insist” that they’re women trapped in men’s bodies while the world records tumble?
    If so many people take this transgendered route that firms simply hire them exclusively, and state to the overlords that, “well they dress like women, is that close enough”? and then leave normal women unemployed will they get it through their thick skulls?
    CBC will be starving for a cash influx by Christmas time, isn’t this their last season of NHL coverage? They may not have enough to heat their palaces by mid winter. Someone ought to organize a bake sale…

But… the link says there’s a 63% rise in murders, and the actual murder count, although it varies somewhat is a far distance from that, and it’s fallen since the early 90’s… there’s just enough plausible feeling to the news article to make it seem real-ish. Even their cherry picking of 2007 – 2012 doesn’t show a 63% increase.

    I’m reminded of this magazine actually, which as a 12 years old I’d bought it and brought it over to our neighbor’s house, my buddy’s father was a old school german, and millwright at IPSCO who’d just made it to foreman. He glanced at it and roared with his belly laugh pointing out what I as a 12 years old, hadn’t quite gotten.
