  1. The Washington Free Beacon:
OREGON—The story behind the massive failure of the Oregon health exchange website continues to unravel as allegations of fraud and gross mismanagement mount.
“Local news agencies have obtained emails and other reports suggesting state officials lied about the progress of the website, possibly even creating dummy sites to present to federal officials…”

  2. OMG Government parasites lied to protect their revenue? I can’t believe it .. I really can’t.

  4. Yes, Coyne nails it again. They promised they would introduce income splitting when the budget balanced. They’ve adroitly planned that to happen at this time next year, a few months before the election. So, technically they could defer income splitting till then, however it would have been a show of good faith to implement half of it now with a $25k split this year and the full $50k next year when the budget balances.
The recent actions of the Minister are obviously showing he’s way beyond his ‘best-before-date’.

  5. Re: Hopalong Cassidy.
Brings back good memories. When I was kid, I got a 3D Viewmaster for Christmas. It had a few Hopalong Cassidy reels that went with it. Wish I still had it!
    Thanks!

  6. Exactly right north of 60. Meanwhile, they waste time banning light bulbs.
As for Flaherty, I think he is losing his mind.
    ——-
“…the tax system doesn’t recognize the fact that many, even most families, pool their income to pay their household bills,” Mr. Harper said. “Instead it treats families the same as room-mates living under the same roof with no financial attachment. That’s not realistic; that is not fair.”
“For example two parents earning $60,000 and $20,000 pay almost $1,300 more in federal taxes than two people in an identical household each earning $40,000 even though their combined income is the same,” Mr. Harper said.
“We think once the budget is balanced that fixing this should be one our highest priorities.”
    Stephen Harper, March 2011

  7. I agree. Hopalong Cassidy was one of the shows we listened to on our battery radio.
jwkozak91, thanks for that. Richard Pipes is right about two solitudes in Ukraine, and only a mass disgust with the regime will unite these two.

  8. Yeah, banning a specific type of light bulb was a rather silly gesture. The market quickly sidestepped it and incandescent bulbs are of course still available. I think the govt knew they had to make some gesture to appease the greenies, so why not do something that’s easily circumvented by an innovative marketplace. Capitalism at it’s best, and there’s nothing the greenies can do about it.
The Harper quote is correct, Flaherty just stepped on his ____k

  9. Connecticut has created tens of thousands of newly minted criminals, because some residents are refusing to register guns under a new law enacted after the Sandy Hook School shooting.

while an estimated few hundred residents may have sent their registration forms in a day or two past deadline, a group of people estimated to be several times that size reportedly show no interest in submitting applications at all.

Another anti-Canada bigot from Quebec photoshops the Lapointe sisters wearing fleur-de lis mitts at the Olympics. Trouble is, he’s the PQ Minister of education and science.
Always pisses me off how some Quebecers will diss the rest of Canada, while holding their hands out for the transfer payment, without which they couldn’t survive.

  12. From the International Business Times – an apt source in this case:

A restaurant in the Nigerian state of Anambra has been shut down after the authorities reportedly found it has been selling dishes made of human meat. The police recovered at least two fresh human heads when they arrested 11 people from the restaurant including the owner, six women and four men, following a tip-off.

The blood-soaked heads were found wrapped in cellophane sheets.
