How’s That Hopey Changey Thing Working Out For Ya?

O-ba-ma-Voter;

As a new “Used-to-Have,” I denied my slide. “I’m not poor!” I nervously chuckled to myself. But as I slid more, the smartest thing was finally acknowledging poverty and applying for the benefits available. I’d never been poor before. I didn’t know how to be poor. But finally, I learned. The magnitude of my shame and embarrassment is unspeakable. It’s impossible to explain to people who aren’t poor — “The Haves.”

  1. She then goes on to blame republicans and bush and all that. Obama CAUSED THIS. He is the president and has been for FIVE YEARS. The only hope is a new president at this point and that’s more than 2 years away.

  2. I always have trouble relating to articles like this. I understand the frustration, I to am slowly sinking into the “once had” bunch. My lack of relating to the people in the article is that they ALWAYS blame the Corporations or the Republicans. I watched as Barney Frank called Bush a racist because Bush wanted to do something with Fanny Mae/Mac before it destroyed the economy. I listened as Democrat after Democrat ignored illegal immigration problem that was solved in the 80’s by Reagan. I saw how a man who could talk well but has no heart win over a Country of fools. Lies go ignored unless it was said by a Republican. I my opinion, every, EVERY major problem that we have in this Country HAS BEEN CAUSED BY THE GOVERNMENT. Republican or Democrat. It did not matter. So if you want to talk about what is wrong. Then be honest. Face the truth and then DO NOT RE-ELECT the ones that cause this fiasco.

  3. Romney promised to create 14 million full time jobs.
Obumbles will create 14 million part time jobs.
So you can pay for your part time houses,
part time cars, part time rent, part time utility bills,
part time food, with 90 dollars less food stamps per month to pay it with,
and your part time doctor and insurance.
Dumb-ass Obumbles voters got what they deserve,
so suck it up and stop bitching..

  4. After reading this article I have a very difficult time in figuring out what her skill set was. Seems that she had a high paying job and she got laid off. It’s curious that she never stated what she was good at. Clearly it didn’t seem to matter much to her as being laid off was the primary thing she was pissed off about.
What one is good at really matters. I have no concerns about being out of work as a doctor; wetware always malfunctions and needs someone to fix it. Similarly, I’ve met very few out of work heavy duty mechanics, welders, machinists, miners, electricians and plumbers. Given the nature of things to break, those that fix things are always in demand. Those whose job description is something nebulous are in a completely different situation. When the economy is growing their skills might be in demand, even though they’re not easy to categorize. When the economy is shrinking, like now, they’re out of work.
In the new economy, being able to quickly acquire skills is what matters. I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up a formal certification as an electrician although I’m getting too old to go through an apprenticeship as well as making far too much money as a doctor. What counts now is how quickly one can change ones skill set, and thus marketability, when the need arises. One skill I do have is the ability to write programs that fit into what are currently considered incredibly tight memory spaces given the profligacy with which memory is used nowadays. Right now third world programmers create such programs far more cheaply than I could but it’s always an option.
Those who produce things or fix things will always be in demand. Those who perform undefinable tasks will be the first laid off. As far as producing things, that portion of the economy has been outsourced to third world countries which leaves one with the option of fixing things if one wants to stay in N. America. People who can fix broken wetware are always in demand regardless of how poorly the economy is performing. There’s a very non-linear distribution of income in the current economy but those with a lot of income still have the same defects as those with very little income. Thus, I know I’ll never be out of a job unless I do something outrageously stupid.
The person who wrote the article linked to seems to have no clue about what is needed to survive in the current economy and will likely become just another parasite who depends on the income of others to stay alive and can’t understand why she’s unemployed.

  5. “Obama CAUSED THIS.”
Yes, he did. Before he was even an Illinois State senator he was one of the lawyers that organized protests of City Group(City Bank) to force them to issue subprime mortgages because of the Leftist concept of ‘redlining’.
Obama knows this, Democrats politicians know they caused the housing bubble.
They are still forcing American banks to issue subprime mortgages even now.
Socialist wealth redistribution schemes caused this.

  6. I guess when she heard Obumbles talking about ‘wealth redistribution’ She thought it didn’t mean her.

  7. The “hopey-changey” myth is being propelled by unilateral legislating from the oval office – a process that by-passes Congressional oversight and, from what we’ve seen, resists judicial scrutiny. Obama has passed 168 orders which change statute without the oversight of Congress – more than the total of Eos passed by ALL the presidents before him.
This dictatorship of the POTUS was instigated by a student of the infamous Carroll Quigley, William Jefferson Klinton (who once stated Americans were far “too free” and democracy “moved too slow”), was formalized by GW Bush (under pretense of war emergency), and expanded out of all constitutional propriety by Obama in his attempts to sovietize America.
There is NO constitutional provision nor statute that explicitly permits executive orders. The intent of the initial appearance of executive orders was to help direct officers and agencies of the U.S. carry out their delegated duties: the consequence of failing to comply possibly being the removal from office. In other words, executive orders only affected and applied to government employees in directing them to carry out their duties, it was never intended or used to create law/statute by avoiding congress.
An executive order of the President must find support in the Constitution, either in a clause granting the President specific power, or by a delegation of power by Congress to the President. None of this has occurred in the spate of EOs coming from the last 3 Washington regimes. There is where the people should place hope for change – before America becomes a form dictatorship.

  8. Loki, well stated. I got my first job as a 12 year old, delivering papers, and have had about 59 more since, all diverse in nature, so I never have to look long or far because of my varied skill set. But the again I’v managed my money in such a manner I don’t have to work any more:-)))

  9. She sounds like she was in her early 50’s and it sounds like she was in PR or marketing communication.
Who knows why she cant find a new job. Perhaps she has been out too long (a sad thing) perhaps she is out too long because for the first couple of years she was expecting to earn what she used to. Perhaps she did PR for a company that was toxic in reputation. Perhaps she has a bad reputation in the industry. perhaps she lives in an area where they arent hiring her type of position and she would need to move….perhaps she cant move…..who knows. She had savings, but there all gone now, who knows why maybe she had very little, maybe she had big debts, maybe she got divorced, maybe she had a sick parent. Very hard to speak to an indivisuals circumsatnces because each story is unique and cannot be extrapolated.
Her problem is real though but the blame is less important than the fix. More regulation and more rules to discourage hiring, payroll taxes, benfits costs from Obamacare etc are not the way to go at this stage. She is worried as she is reaching the end of the working life, or she can see the end. Bet she has no kids, and is wondering who will take care of her in her old age….that isnt to mock it is a real question that will be faced by lots of people (not me).
I have family in a similar situation. I dont know why they dont get hired, you try to help but at the end of the day they have to find their redirection. They used to make lots and now they dont.
Her blaming wont help, but recognize that this is a group that is not of a trivial size, someone will help them or exploit them, or at minimum promise them hope to gain power using other people’s money.
So my advice is, try to find the constructive ways to solve their problems because that group is eduated, motivated and has time on their hands to use their power to make the system come up with benefits. Their response is rational, unfortunatley it is my (and your) effort and income they are eyeing.

  10. Well, let’s see here. First off, she used to earn $100 an hour and she didn’t pay her mortgage off, instead she spent it on luxuries such as pedicures and vacations. Secondly she believes that corporations want the economy to be depressed which is absurd. The better the economy the more discretionary income that the consumer has to spend on the products that corporations create. Hard times for the consumer bring about hard times for the corporations. Since 2008 Walmart has been closing stores and Sears is bleeding money and may not survive.
She seems to be quite ignorant of history too. In response to a slowing economy Coolidge, Kennedy and Reagan all reduced taxes and govt spending and the economy roared to life. Hoover, Roosevelt, Carter and Obama did the opposite, they taxed, borrowed and spent and the economy stalled.

  11. There are some people who lived there entire lives with their nose “stuck to the Candy Store Window” of life.
It is a pity some learn “candy Store Window” effect late in life and then, ……. whine !!
Life can be a bitch, and then you die, eh?

  12. I love the way she blames Republicans through thick and thin, criticizing GOP politicians for a salary of $174,000 per year, as if Democrats take home less.
And I love the way she criticizes how unfeeling corporate America is. The idea that she should offer them something of value is, of course, demeaning and exploitive.

  13. Of course this is typical of those that went to prestigious schools. They are owed the good life. It never occurs to them that they are responsible for their life. As it is they want it handed to them with extras, because they went to prestigious schools.
    Well…..where did it get you?
That is not to say that one has no sympathy for those that had a good job and now are on the downers.
Whining is not going to help in the real world, though it may help the psyche somewhat.
It is interesting that the author damns and complains about the corporate world that gave her well paying job and then the job disappears.
Happens all the time. Suppose nobody in the fine school mentioned that.
It is the way it is.
Perhaps there is the lack of intelligent thought. The author again complains and blames the republicans when she should point her critical thinking in the direction of the current occupant of the White House.
As it is she finds it easy to blame those that she posts as enemies and those that actually caused her dilemma are faultless, being her favored.
One assumes that she voted, well she got what she wanted, what’s to complain about
Could this be why the US is going downhill fast?
    Do they see it?
Do they want to see it?
It used to be that the Americans had the will and courage to take on problems and deal with them.
Not so much anymore, they want the other guy to fix them. They want the other guy pay for them. They want to blame somebody. They want to blame the other guy.
    A sorry state.

  14. The author of that sob story has been conditioned by the purveyors of her higher education and her parents, to believe that she is owed by the corporations and by the GOP.
Her problem is a bad case of banana patch mambo” … they taught her everything wrong. Now she doesn’t understand why anything is what it is, but is too arrogant to do the research and changer her mind.
    It’s the government stupid!

  15. Most of the comments above are on the mark as far as it goes, but the new economy is requiring adjustments. It appears this women was an assistant manager or receptionist. Those positions have largely disappeared. Particularly for small business, managers and executives answer their own phone, process and send their own documents, and a host of other things previously done by assistants. New technology has made these positions redundant.
The education system as a whole is a generation behind. It is still training people to be good little soldiers, working for someone else. What is needed is training in entrepreneurship and money management, things that we typically have to learn on our own. Those who are raised in entrepreneurial families (agriculture, restaurants, etc.) where they work side by side with their parents, have a bit of an advantage.
All that being said, there is no way the people’s money should have been confiscated (taxes) in order to bail out corporations and banks. Any bailouts should have gone back to the people who earned it in the first place.

  16. What? Doesn’t she know about the freedom not to work the Affordable Care Act provides?

  17. When I was hiring people, I used to watch for people like this with a simple technique. Make them feel comfortable and then ask questions about their previous employers that have a negative slant and see how they respond. I remember a classic, a woman who worked for a mining company, so my question was how could she work for someone like that who raped and pillaged the environment. The response was (and I can still give you a direct quote 25 years later) “Oh I know, but I needed the job”.
So a person like this is often their own worst enemy. She thinks corporations are responsible for her plight. Any good interviewer will pick that up and avoid someone who doesn’t see them as anything more than the provider of a paycheck.
On the other hand, I remember a fellow who started with MacDonalds. His response was that a job at MacDonalds can be whatever you want it to be. I would bet that fellow has never had a problem finding a job.

  18. Despite my college degree from a prestigious college
Any guesses as to the college and major? Mine would be Bennington and women’s womyn’s studies.

  19. Libealism/progressive mind decay.
    It is never my fault.
Rule #1 of the liars creed.
Look What You made Me do, being the next utterance of these pathetic worms.
I have noticed for years, if we have the belief that we will have a roof overhead, 3 meals a day and the expectation of continuity, we will tolerate all kinds of deceit and abuse.
Take away this illusion and people go into shock or psychosis.
Never ever do these overeducated wasters ask: What do I contribute to my home and neighbours?
As Loki notes, the trades are seldom short of work, this era of deliberate mechanical helplessness has increased our work possibilities.
    Some assembly required?
    Works for civil society too.

  20. Forget this woman. She deserves her poverty for having voted for Obama and blaming her lot on others. When one comes across such a person, remind him or her that he or she is getting what has come to him or her.

  21. Rick in BC >
“His response was that a job at MacDonalds can be whatever you want it to be.,…”
    Bingo, I’d bet the same.
Whatever, she voted for “equality” and now she’s found it with the majority of Mexicans. She needs to embrace her “hope and change”.

  22. “I’m lucky to be in Massachusetts” A delusional brain-dead from the Democrat controlled State of Massachusetts. She blames imaginary Republicans for her unemployment. The good news is that she will have company from other Democrat States like California and NY. Until they get medication & return to the real world, they are unemployable

  23. “It appears this women was an assistant manager or receptionist.” – I think not; at $200K a year (her $100/hr) she made more than those rethuglikkans she calls out at $174K. She made more than an engineer with an advanced degree and 30 years experience (I know this to be true). So, whither the life savings? The 401K, the Roth IRA? Where is the self-managed equities portfolio, the paid-up whole life policy? Where in the closet is that shoe box of bullion accrued slowly over a lifetime? What, no clear title to that half-acre with the cottage out in flyover country where the living is cheap? I think this woman’s “little bit left over” putatively came AFTER the lease payment on the E-class, the up-to-the-minute wardrobe (needed for that HR job, no doubt), the tennis lessons and gym memberships and, by her own admission, the vacations and pedicures. What this Obamacrat lacks is what they all lack – frugality… the virtue of delayed gratification. She is just another grasshopper who despises the ant for what he has saved, now that she is out in the cold. I have been driven out of “good” jobs over and over by various economies and technologies, yet managed somehow to survive, because I pledge my life to my family. Maybe if she had dependents she would be motivated to put on her big girl panties and make something happen to feed her kids, or her invalid spouse, or her aging parents. But no, she is a “Me-theist” and has engineered her aloneness. In a perfect world she would solve her situation by volunteering at a cannery. To become food for cats.
