Y2Kyoto: Released From The Icy Grip of Irony

Rescue of trapped climate-change researchers finally succeeds. But no word as to why there were there;

… the word “climate” appears once in [the CNN] web report, although not as an explanation. It doesn’t appear at all in the CBS report. The Associated Press report similarly avoids this key data point. Scott Johnson called this expedition the “ship of fools,” and perhaps that can be applied to these reports on the denouement, too.

Update: Aurora Australis will now start heading towards open water. The ship is currently travelling at a quarter knot in heavy ice towards open water. Webcam here.

  1. But no word as to why they were there?
We will have to wait for Pravda to report.
As with the CRU emails, I expect more accurate and timely coverage from the Russian propaganda station than CBC will provide.
How does one get Sun News to pick this one up?
A couple of Australian papers are sticking the boot into these phoneys.
Amazing how the embedded “journalists” can not see the irony of this fiasco.
Was the cool ade too strong?
Or did the lack of banana milkshakes throw them off their game?
Note banana boy’s glorious selfie has already been vanished.
Denial of coverage, a full-time media career.

  2. Of course the CBC has managed to report daily on this fiasco without “climate| or “global” never entering the conversation. Just “scientists’ and “tourists”.

  3. It starts with calling these clowns “researchers” instead of correctly identifying them as activists and eco-tourists.

  4. Did they remember to plant a few hundred acres of trees before they were rescued? A carbon neutral trip and all.

  5. Not at all. The headline should read, “Elite tourists evacuated from ship; crewmen remain on board.”
There are said to be 22 crew on board. Let us hope that they have a plentiful supply of vodka. If it had been
left up to me, I would have evacuated the crew and left the elite tourists on board. Triage, you know.
I can only hope the soi-disant “scientists” from this “expedition” have used up large dollops of grant money
on this wretched affair and get into trouble as a result.

  6. And according to one report (I can’t find the reference) some genuine Antarctic researchers are extremely
because their gear for a season’s work was about to be unloaded from the Aurora Australis
when it went off the rescue these worthless people. Some of them are in favour of population reduction:
why didn’t they start with themselves?
One of the tourists on board burbled about the joys of being completely dominated by the forces of Nature.
An unbelievably naive statement, to anyone here in NL.
She must have been from southern California. Even Florida suffers from the occasional hurricane.

  7. No mention that they were climate scientists?.. I guess they would have to turn in their Libtard card if they actually reported the news..
Its not like global warming activists/ScIeNtIStS stuck in the ice is news right?

  8. I take issue with the use of the word “rescue” to describe this evacuation. “Rescue” implies that the rescuees were in some sort of great peril prior to the event of the rescue. Note that none of the Russian crew were “rescued”. Are their lives less worthy? I’d say that this evacuation was more for the convenience of the junketers, and the convenience of the crew, who won’t have to deal with all the special snowflakes while waiting for the summer warmth to free the ship.

  9. gordinkneehill – when it came to global warming, they got cold feet.
The warmists are in high dudgeon over their “bad” week, especially in article comments. Their basic argument is this:
    Fact – CO2 is a greenhouse gas
Fact – humans are adding CO2 to the atmosphere
    Fact – temperatures “rose”
Fact – humans are warming the earth
Sorry folks, that’s it. Most readers here can shred all of those arguments but they don’t care. They believe it with their very souls because they can equate capitalism to pollution, er emissions, that must be controlled. They get to tax something that nature makes way more of than humans. You don’t have to mine it or develop it in any way; you just tax it. You get the money and someone else will have to change their behaviour. It’s a thing of beauty and they’re not letting go.
Nothing will change that – not diverging models, fudged data or incompressible all bad weather is human caused, at a waste or $trillions, whose only legacy remaining will likely be thousands of dilapidated wind mills fouling the land and seascape worse than they do now.
And no pleas to stop pollution proliferation. Why aren’t they bellowing at China, flying over immediately for mass demonstrations against coal use, the most potent anthropogenic emission. Why oh why?? (sarc)
Because they and their elites have never cared about the environment. Their only issues are personal – wealth, status and power. Most of us know this, but many don’t want to sound like we don’t care about the environment. So they slime/shout down anyone or anything that threatens their environmental credentials – always have, always will. Why? See above.
Their low information peons will swoon at every Goreism, Suzuki tantrum or long, did I say long, May rant. Their party’s already over and they don’t even know it. The treasuries are bare and the climate isn’t warming – but they’re useful idiots for now, muddying the waters.
Nope, not until someone pulls the money and power access away. Even then the warmists and their watermelon friends will go down with the ship with approved grants firmly clenched (I won’t say where) and higher “confidence” for policymakers. Whether or not the street turns into a public opinion lynch mob when they truly and fully realize how they’ve been relieved of giant piles of their money may be the question soon.

Spot on. Beyond the simple newsline that a Russian ship chock full of scientists was trapped in the Antarctic ice, this was an entirely contrived and phony story.
