Employers around the country, from fast-food franchises to colleges, have told NBC News that they will be cutting workers’ hours below 30 a week because they can’t afford to offer the health insurance mandated by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
“To tell somebody that you’ve got to decrease their hours because of a law passed in Washington is very frustrating to me,” said Loren Goodridge, who owns 21 Subway franchises, including a restaurant in Kennebunk. “I know the impact I’m having on some of my employees.”
Getting the government they voted for, good and hard: “[O]ur union members and their families originally offered strong political and moral support for the promise of the Affordable Care Act,” the resolution stated. But because….”

I’m optimistic that the end is near and it’s going to be awesome.

Chickens. Coming. Home. To. Roost?
Look, over there . . . A banana tree on the lawn of that big white house.
Perhaps the point has been made by others – although I haven’t seen it as yet – with this increase in part time work – aren’t people going to be putting a helluva lot more miles on their cars traveling from their one part time job to what will have to now be a necessary second part time job (to make up for lost wages)? More commuting means more emissions, more traffic, more congestion, more resource depletion, more accidents in which radiators will be crushed and antifreeze spilled, more rubber trees cut down to make more tires, etc etc etc. We will of course need more billboards for all these additional eyeballs on the road too you know. THE IMPACT TO GAIA IS GOING TO BE DEVASTATING!
Congratz libz – the law of unintended consequences will get you every time.
cutting workers’ hours below 30 a week.
–
Union thugs that intimidated union workers and children to vote for their Anointed Oblamer,
Colleges that treated conservative voting professors with scorn,
public sector union workers that are now facing 29 hour weeks and job cuts.
Suck on it-
you voted for this frigging clown and now he is giving you back your dues.
Obamacare will destroy more unions and union jobs, than ‘right to work laws’ ever could have.
ha ha ha you got what you wanted, just think if pete jr gets in the pmo here.
One thing about governments world wide. If they use “Democratic“ in the name of the country, it is a 100% chance they are dictators. And when the government says “affordable“,up their portractored guesstimate by at least a magnitude. But I do hope the USSA gubermint keeps it around long enough to break all the sleezy unions.
Instead of 40 million Americans who most didn’t even want to pay for Medical Insurance. You will now have a phalanx of government Highly paid goons enforcing a weak system with penalties. While a 100,000,000 Americans will now have no Medical insurance.
Of course the Government like here will be exempt from the System, while the citizens suffer. They can vote that way. Also the Governments favouritism donors get a pass.
You voted for it, now you got it.
Was in Seattle last week. A very friendly but left-leaning tour guide told me how lucky we were to have “free health care” in Canada.
I explained to said tour guide that it was not “free”, and that it was sucking up an ever-larger piece of government revenue. I explained that in British Columbia more than half of government revenue is now spent on healthcare.
And then I explained that one of the reasons we like to dig up the oil sands is because that helps us pay Canada’s enormous health care bills, which would otherwise be unaffordable.
Our left-leaning tour guide didn’t know what to say at that point, because as you might expect she was no fan of the oil sands.
This is always the problem with the left: they never like to accept reality and facts, these are viewed as inconveniences that get in the way of their “perfect” ideology. The entire Obamacare debacle is a shining example of this point.
LOL
America is getting the government it deserves. Stupid democrooks.
The articles and the comments around them illustrate perfectly what Thomas Sowell referred to as, “stage one thinking” i.e. the lefties are completely flummoxed that enacting a law ordaining cheap health care for the consumer might produce knock on effects that defeat the original purpose and leave the consumers worse off than before the legislation was enacted. There is a profound reluctance, or even inability on the part of the lefties to consider why health care is expensive or why large numbers of people may choose not to carry insurance. Tort reform? Forget it! Year after year one of the largest contributors to the Democrat party is the American Trial Lawyers Association. Allow insurance companies to compete across state lines? Never. The Dems are paid off by those guys as well. Would addressing those simple issues completely solve the problems with health care access? No. But they’d be a start.
The US should scrap Obamacare and implement a version of Canada’s health care. Let employers employ, let the state do the health care.
Got to love it when socialist theory gets slapped up side the head by capitalist reality.
My buddy down in Florida employs about 800 workers. Many of these people were hired after his company was awarded long term government contracts. The additional cost of health care was not factored into their bid and they must cut hours to remain in the black. It will affect about half his workforce.
He also said the government unemployment rates we hear in the USA media are bogus. The real number in his area (not far from Cape Canaveral) exceeds 20%.
Schadenforward!
