Reader Tips

I avoid the profane as a rule, but it’s Saturday night, and this is too much of an amusing one-off not to share: here’s Andy Prieboy’s unsettlingly straight-faced, gentlemanly-sounding ode to the “happy high retardians” who, when when legless and devoid of any common sense, knight themselves the Hearty Drinking Men.

  1. Highly recommended: Bruce Thornton’s Is Leftist School Indoctrination Unstoppable?
    Teaser:

We often focus on the ideological biases of the university, where the more lunatic examples of political correctness get the most attention. But in education as in economics, there is a trickle-down effect. The grandees at the elite universities train the PhD’s who go on to second and third tier institutions, where they in turn train the students who get high school and grade school teaching credentials. They also write most of the textbooks that end up in K-12 classrooms. Thus the progressive ideology metastasizes throughout the educational system, determining the curriculum, the textbooks, and the point of view of the teachers. At that level the ideas may be garbled, half-baked, incoherent, and a collection of clichés and slogans. But they are still toxic and effective at transmitting a world-view to impressionable minds.

  2. On John Batchelor’s radio program tonight he mentioned there were still another 5 or so committees that were to hear, regarding the Benghazi affair.
I’m guessing that if Speaker Boehner reads that the msm is backing talk of impeachment, he’ll move forward on this, perhaps even naming a special investigation while the other committees are looking into this.
I know, my hopes couldn’t be higher.

  3. EBD @ 10:37 p.m.:
Leftist school indoctrination is not unstoppable.
For one thing, it often boils down to a scenario of (as Groucho Marx put it), “Who you gonna believe – me, or your own two eyes?” Marxism (Karl, not Groucho) is a false theory, so it’s hard to promote it on one hand while praising students for searching for truth on the other. The cognitive dissonance is overwhelming.
Ayn Rand wrote about the subject more than 40 years ago in her essay “The Comprachicos”, which everyone should read.

  4. Great comment by Rex Murphy on Al Gore:
    http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2013/05/11/rex-murphy-2/
… Does Mr. Gore drop into other friendly countries — the nations of the Persial [sic] Gulf, for instance — to insult them and demonize their endeavours?
There are a few questions I’d like to have seen put to Mr. Gore by those who sought him out. For instance: Does his commercial relationship with the absolute and hereditary emirate of Qatar, whose wealth is built on oil, gas and petrochemicals, in any way colour his views of Canada’s oil?
Has Mr. Gore lectured Qatar or its Emir? …

  5. This is a must read story on Ornge and its staggering spending of money and corruption yet once again not one person is charged let alone investigated though supposedly the Ontario Political Police are looking into it. Wynne wants more “revenue tools” yet this is just one example of the billions upon billions wasted by the Liberals.
    http://www.torontosun.com/2013/05/11/ornges-corporate-labyrinth
“Here are just some of the companies created — J Smarts, Ornge Global Real Estate Inc., Ornge Issuer Trust, Ornge Global Corporate Services, Ornge U.S. Inc., Ornge Global Management Inc., Orngeco.
You get the point. Quite a lengthy and confusing list, considering Ornge has been around for less than 10 years.
Each of these shell companies had a purpose.
McCarter’s report found one of the “for-profits” purchased a building for $15 million, then leased it to Ornge for “40% higher than fair market rent.”
Another was Ornge Peel, now Ornge Global. This was one of the first entities created. Its purpose was to cover the exorbitant salaries of Ornge executives and then “deliver professional services back to Ornge.” In doing so, they did not have to reveal salaries on the annual Sunshine List.
This is how Ornge was able to mask the astronomical $1.4 million annual salary Mazza was receiving, courtesy of Ontario taxpayers.”
“former Liberal Party of Canada president Apps, with the law firm Fasken Martineau, which between 2003 and 2012 billed Ornge for 22,000 hours of work, totaling nearly $11 million, according to The Canadian Press.”
Please, please fix this stupid Captcha so the background is blank making the characters easier to read.

    “Alerts for: Halton – Peel”
“Freezing temperatures and patchy frost expected overnight with widespread frost Monday night.
A very cold air mass moving over the regions will give low temperatures of zero or minus one tonight across the regions. There will initially be windy conditions this evening as the temperatures drop however frost in the form of ice crystals forming on the ground will be only patchy due to the persistent winds. The ground temperatures will reach the freezing mark this evening or by midnight even with the winds and therefore threaten sensitive plants.
On Monday night a classic plant-killing widespread frost will form on the ground due to the cold air in place giving freezing temperatures and due to winds becoming light.”

“Watch out for Petraeus in Benghazi scandal”
“Despite protestations by the White House, this scandal is just beginning. And the White House has picked a very bad scapegoat: the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA follows RFK’s edict: “Don’t get mad, get even.” And when the CIA gets even, it isn’t pretty.
With the White House putting all blame on the agency, expect push back this week — nuclear push back. Gen. David H. Petraeus, the former director forced to resign after a sex scandal, is a dangerous man to the Obama administration. Mad and intent on getting even, he’s already talking, telling one reporter the talking points were “useless” and he preferred not to use them at all. The floodgates will open this week, and by EOB Friday, the scandal will be full blown.
A warning to those West Wing sycophants suffering from acute OOCS: Don’t walk down any dark alleys.”
