We Don’t Need No Stinking Sparky Cars

Washington Examiner;

LG Chem was supposed to use Argonne’s design to produce the Volt batteries in its Holland plant once construction was finished. But according to a recent Inspector General report, the company’s employees have been too busy playing video games to produce any batteries, despite spending $142 million.

  1. Why, oh why can’t these Yanks ‘get it together’ on this green stuff – like their brilliant neighbour to the north (I’m talking ’bout The Dildo here) and his supporters have done?

  2. Under Obama, once everyone has finished wetting their beaks, there’s nothing left over for the actual program.
I went on an 8 State summer holiday two years ago. The Interstates were aglow with bright new pylons, barricades and of course, huge signs with official looking government logos, all declaring that the highway projects were part of the stimulus program. Paving equipment, trucks and other assorted machinery sat idle on many of these stretches of roads. In some places weeds were already over 4 feet tall, but they were all fenced in like cattle, behind the bright orange barricades.
Looked like the stimulus money ran out before they could actually start mixing the asphalt.
Oh well, what difference does it make? Minority got Obama phone and Romney hides his money in the Caymens.

  3. In the United Provinces of Corruptistan, wealth transfer to the Ruling Party is the purpose of the stimulus money.
The workers who volunteered for charity work, or who played video games, have it all figured out.

  4. The super-duper battery plant has workers playing video games because no one is buying the Chevy Volt. Because it is a P.O.S., is why. Even the US government departments who were forced to buy them parked ’em.
I’ve seen exactly one (1) Volt on the road, that was in Chicago. This is the textbook definition of a ” government white elephant”, as well as being a DemocRat money laundering scheme.
Man, its going to be really something when the wheels come off this thing. When those low information voters -finally- figure out just how badly they’ve gotten screwed, lamp posts are going to be getting decorated in large eastern US cities. That will no doubt be the same day the welfare checks bounce.
That’s what DHS has all those drones and armored cars for. Ain’t going to be enough.
(BTW the lamp post thing is a literary allusion, aka a figure of speech, for the Liberal hall monitors out there. I know you’re itching to follow the example of the TDSB and send the SWATies to Chez Phantom or Chez Kate, but you’re going to have to WORK for it.)
I wonder if it would be possible to yank the batteries out of a couple of Chevy Volts and use them for a whole-house uninterruptible power supply? Thing like that could come in handy for when the brown-outs start, give your generator a chance to kick in without frying the motor in your fridge. I suspect a whole bunch of Chevy Volts are going to become available cheap at your friendly scrap dealer in the next year or two.

  5. An idea for a new ongoing thread:
    “Spot a Volt”
On a road, side of the road, on a tow hook, in a trash heap …anywhere you spot one post it.
    I’ve got my eyes peeled…

  6. I plan on reading a whole pile of bs greenie articles this weekend, at our annual Earth Hour, Tire Fire..

  7. Pretty soft article focusing on non working workers.
The reason the plant can’t go into production is that
LG is said to have a “take or pay” contract with GM and
not even enough business to keep the Korean plant busy
anywhere close to capacity. A lot of the most polluting
stuff is apparently done in Korea because it wouldn’t be
permitted stateside. When you add in the facts that the
machinery must be stopped for expensive cleanup on a
regular basis, the thought of having two very expensive
labour intensive plants limping along well below breakeven
    costs would be financial suicide.
Another unmentioned point: while the GM Dolt clown car was
supposed to have been the launch customer for Holland, the
plant was originally conceived to be a contract supplier of
electric car batteries in massive quantities for anyone who
showed up with a purchase order.
As Homer Simpson would say, “If something goes wrong at the
plant, blame the guy who can’t speak English”.

  8. peterj, Earth Day is in April, Earth Hour is in March.
As to the battery maker, it’s not about actually producing a viable product, it’s about getting taxpayer cash. Since they know full well they can’t produce (or sell) a useful product, why bother pretending to work at it?

  9. didn’t see than coming…earth hour that is….
As usual, I shall do something the Great Wall of China can’t, be visible from the $%^& moon with the naked eye…

  10. peterj, pretty sure ‘earth hour is this Saturday, earth day is celebrated, with a tire fire and waste oil burn..

  11. This reminds me of the time I wrote a yahoo answers question about whether my idea for the government stimulating the economy by buying white elephants (creating jobs for attendants, zoo employees, etc) would be a good plan… most of the replies thought I was being serious.

  12. Thanks for the clarification on Earth hour. Single handed I’ll try to make Hydro management fall to their knees in gratitude. Gonna test all the breakers in my 200 amp panel to see how they’re holding up while my burning barrel gets rid of the plastic containers Iv’e been saving. The joy of country living.

  13. The challenge is to outdo the granola folk who turn off the lights… and light candles and have bonfires outside. Imagine how hilarious it would be to get invited to one of those back to basics campfires, I’d have a huge smile on my face all night.

  14. Why don’t you just consume as much electricity as you possibly can every day of the year? THAT would really show those greenies wouldn’t it?

  15. Can’t afford it. My Hydro bills have already doubled in the last 5 years under their 3 stage step system, or whatever. Add to that carrier fees, HST, carbon tax and fairy dust. The bastards are winning in their drive to force us back to the stone age. I can only go wild on these special occasions.
