Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Actually “gasohol” 5-10% ethanol has been rotting fuel sytems and exhaust systems for about 20 years or so.
Anyone who uses/dabbles/repairs air-cooled engines knows the problems with the different burning properties….head gas gaskets and seals….valve guides….
Then there are the water problems….which should not be a problem but the mix attracts moisture meaning that at times an ethanol/water mix erupts….connecting road/crankshaft failures….
What’s a little h2o in the combustion chamber if it’s gonna save the planet…oh wait…
This is very likely a plan by Obamanation to wreck older cars to get them off the road and force people to buy new cars.
Around here ‘regular gas’ has ethanol, but plus and premium does not. One can easily determine how much alcohol is in the fuel. Get a tall thin jar, put about an inch of water in the bottom and mark the water level, add gasoline and mark the top of the gas level. Cap and shake then let it stand to separate. The alcohol will go into the water and the increased level of the water/alcohol mix gives a datum for calculating the percent of alcohol based on height of the different levels.
Ethanol is nothing more than a subsidy to corn farmers because it takes as much [or more] energy to produce a gallon of ethanol than is contained in that gallon of ethanol. It’s passed off as a ‘green’ thing, but it’s just an ag subsidy.
What’s a little h2o in the combustion chamber
actually a little H2O in the combustion chamber is good for the engine, AS LONG AS it’s introduced into the combustion air and not into the fuel system where it causes rust and corrosion.
Kinda like how fracing is a drilling technique eh?
Or kinda like how octane drop and h20 contamination improve the performance of a continental O-190..?
I wonder if the Navy has any idea what biofuel is doing to their very expensive equipment.
You might remember that the Navy recently signed a fuel contract with Dynamic Fuels, a joint venture of Tyson and Syntroleum (NAS: SYNM) , which subcontracted a large amount of the production out to Solazyme (NAS: SZYM) .
The contract was worth $12 million for 450,000 gallons worth of biofuel. Basic math tells you how lousy the Navy is at basic math: Every gallon will cost it $26.67, or $1,120 per barrel’s worth. Even if costs are ever reduced to reasonable levels, which is doubtful, biofuel production demands vast swaths of arable land to produce any meaningful quantities.
Lucky for them that the taxpayers will be picking up the tab.
This is very likely a plan by Obamanation to wreck older cars to get them off the road and force people to buy new cars.
Yes very likely. Further nudged along by the infamous ‘Cash for Clunkers‘ fiasco a few years ago, the Obamanation is well on it’s way to making affordable personal transportation unobtainable for all.

Regarding E-15: “never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity… but don’t rule out malice.”
http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/02/but_dont_rule_out_malice.html
Quite apart from any damage done to car engines, gasoline containing ethanol of any percentage wrecks marine engines and fuel systems. Unlike cars, marine vessels’ fuel tanks are vented to the outside. Ethanol attracts water vapour, marine fuel tanks containing ethanol attracts water from the outside, meaning that over time your gas tank is going to be more and more filled with water. Trying to navigate in tricky situations in the ocean is rather risky when your engine no longer works because of water in the fuel lines.
Additionally, since most modern boats have fuel tanks made of plastic rather than steel, ethanol, which eats up plastic, will result in a rupture of the fuel tank. Fire on a boat, especially involving a few hundred gallons of gasoline, is every mariner’s worst nightmare.

This is very likely a plan by Obamanation to wreck older cars to get them off the road and force people to buy new cars. – north of 60
Exactly. In Obama’s view, the ethanol will require his ” enemies ” – the middle class – to buy cars from his friends the UAW.
The greens could have pushed for methanol, which is 90 cents a gallon cheaper than ethanol, but its use does not drive up food prices as ethanol does, because it is produced from coal or natural gas.
The greens whole strategy boils down to: make present energy sources so expensive that wind and solar become price viable, and middle class living standards are reduced to Third World levels.
My gasoline is made of corn.
And my food is made of petroleum.
“…Ethanol is nothing more than a subsidy to corn farmers because it takes as much [or more] energy to produce a gallon of ethanol than is contained in that gallon of ethanol. It’s passed off as a ‘green’ thing, but it’s just an ag subsidy….”
Amen, Sir!
Even a National Catastrophic Magazine article I read a few years back admitted that corn-sourced ethanol was energy negative.
Aviation gasoline or Avgas is on its way out too, so little of it is used compared to auto fuel that refineries don’t want to bother with it and on top of that it’s leaded, so the greenies are horrified by its use.
Auto fuel is now being used more often in piston-powered aircraft and pilots look for gas that’s not contaminated with ethanol, but there’s so much out there it’s going to end up in airplanes too.
Temperature drops 2 degrees celsius per thousand feet, so water’s a problem.
Diverting acres that can be used for food production to fuel production is a crime against humanity.
It is not just E15 but Ethanol generally is not good for the environment. Where are the protests?
http://www.naturalnews.com/027815_ethanol_gasoline.html
The EPA are enviro-crusaders who only care about the environment not the public. If they hear that people’s cars are being destroyed by E15 they’ll most likely say ‘Good, now they have to take public transport.’
So let’s summarize, the US fedgov subsidizes ethanol production with borrowed dollars that the voters grandchildren are supposed to pay back and then orders the petroleum companies to offer ethanol blended fuel. The diversion of agricultural production for fuel use contributes to the inflationary cycle at home and causes high food prices throughout the world which was one of the causal factors in the ‘Arab Spring’ uprisings that the Islamic fundamentalists have ridden to power. Ethanol lowers vehicle fuel mileage so it costs more to drive per mile and also has the potential to destroy the fuel system and engine costing thousands of dollars per vehicle to repair, which most drivers do not have to spare in the Great Obama Depression, let alone the money to buy a new vehicle.
The reasons for adding ethanol to motor fuel are to lower CO2 emissions and reduce energy dependence. Without CO2 in the atmosphere the entire planet dies and the earth is cooling despite the rise in CO2 from 275ppm to 350ppm in the past 50years so the first goal is false. The second goal is not obtainable, the energy content of a gallon of ethanol is less than the amount of energy that has to be expended to produce it. The farmer needs diesel fuel to raise and harvest the corn and transport it, the fermentation tanks have to be heated and then the ethanol has to be transported and blended all of which require energy.
Reagan was right. Government is the problem.
Ethenol will play havoc with any part of the fuel delivery system employing rubber or plastic (hoses, gaskets, ‘O’ rings, seals etc.) it literally dissolves them over time creating all sorts of risks and failures.
That said, you have to take a minute and think about why officialdom and the social engineering clique are obsessing over personal ownership of cars and offer only either failure prone expensive alternatives or mass transit. I think officialdom in general have bought into the fallacious need for global population control (there are just too many of us unproductive consumers despoiling the elite’s utopia) and resource rationing/governance (yes, we are simply “human” resources – controllable numbers here to extract the natural resources for the benefit of the super class and not partake in a fair share of said resources – state chattels have no rights to the spoils of their masters). They are doing their level best to make driving a hassle/liability, owning a car a risk and buying/running one an expensive luxury. They hate independent mobility and attacking the personal motorized vehicle is the one way they can eventually herd us into their compact urban mega centers to make our lifestyles more “sustainable”.
Never forget your personal mobility is a right and freedom which is directly linked to the exercise of many of your other freedoms and liberties. The most important of which is your economic freedom. The car has been the great liberator of the exploited worker/producer who was, until the prominence of affordable long range personal transport, reliant on those who ran the local economy and local politics. Individual mobility freed us from the tyranny of local employers, markets and governors. If one was being exploited with low wages, poor prices or market gouging, you just jump in ol’ betsy and take your talent, produce, merchandise, family somewhere else where better wages, better prices and less corruption exists. This in turn, made markets more competitive for skilled labour, quality producers and craftsmen. The car broke the monopoly of local employment barons and marketeers.
The current political trend in ridding us of the personal car, will make us slaves to local economics/politics once again. And you have to realize this is the underpinning concept of agenda 21. It was a document written not by share-the-land hippies, but by a super class internationalist clique who want to monopolize the resources and economies of western nations – best way to start is by phasing out personal transport making local labour and producers/consumers reliant on the local globalist elites. The Agenda 21 slogan of “think globally act locally” was created by a European think tank of corporatists and monopolists (COR). Not surprisingly, when Agenda 21 is fully implemented, you will only travel where government transport takes you and it will never take you to some place where you will live a freer more prosperous existence because Agenda 21 is about standardization (of society and economies). Agenda 21 mass “sustainable” transport will take you to and from your approved “sustainable” austere job at the local industry of an agenda 21 overlord and back to your cramped spartan living quarters in a “sustainable mega-unit complex. You will not be allowed to travel independently or without permission – if we allowed the ”human resources” to do this they will once again despoil the vast rural areas of the nation which have been preserved for the indolent ruling super class – they are the only people who can appreciate unpopulated natural areas and not exploit it for food, or resources or living space for a mongrel class “family”. They will also be the only people allowed free individual transport/mobility.
Enjoy your car, your land and your freedom – while it lasts.

Here’s some advice when using ethanol-laced gasoline for lawnmowers, chain saws, motor boats, etc — in other words engines that are only run intermittently. Add fuel stabilizer to the tank every time you gas up. It helps prevent the breakdown of ethanol gas when is going to sit in a tank for a while. You should do the same thing with your car if you drive infrequently.
I had to have an outboard motor serviced a few years ago because the ethanol was breaking down the rubber fuel line and specks of rubber were clogging the carburetor.
JMD
No confidence in “stabilizers”…
When not in use…drain the suckers and then later use fresh fuel. Dump the drained fuel in yer car/truck where it will be diluted.
JMD – Fuel Stabilizer does nothing except to stabilize the gas over long storage periods (especially Summer) and if you have put fuel with ethanol in a small motor – it is just as bad the next time. Best is to buy non-ethanol gas for small motors usually in the 91/93-94 (95 if you can find it)octane range.
If you have a flex-fuel vehicle put the 87 octane in it as Canada only is at E 10 so far.
Is there a single bureaucrat that understands that cost of energy is directly related to the economic output?
Any jurisdiction promoting more costly, less efficient energy (eg. Ontario, Spain) sooner or later is facing economic decline.

That’s a good practice with any fuel, and a better way of avoiding ethanol is to only use premium or plus grades of fuel in small engines. The test method to determine ethanol content I described above can also be used to make ethanol-free gasoline.
