“Welcome to Canada!”

“Now, let me tell you a bit about your shitty new country…”
February 13 was the official launch of “People’s Citizenship Guide: a response to conservative canada.” Written by a group of progressive scholars with the intention of providing a “more honest alternative” to the official citizenship Guide, the People’s Citizenship Guide encourage new immigrants to join the ranks of the leftist grievance-mongers:

“The Canadian economy forms part of an unequal global economic system, a system which, shape by the legacies of colonialism, continues to privilege industrialized nations over those of the global south.”

Sun TV host Brian Lilley and guest John Robson spotlighted several other notable passages from The People’s Citizenship Guide on yesterday’s edition of The Byline:

“Canada has a long history of repression, exclusion, and exploitation.”

The unjust “exclusion” continues to this day:

“You must apply to become a Canadian “citizen” to vote in any election in Canada. This means waiting several years after arriving in Canada to become eligible, paying a significant application fee per person, passing a written exam in French or English, and swearing allegiance – perhaps in front of a military official – to the British Queen, who leads a Christian church. For many people, this process is a barrier to exercising their democratic rights.”

  1. For many people, this process is a barrier to exercising their democratic rights.
    Good.
    That’s a feature, not a bug.
If they don’t like it, they can diddy-bop back to Asscrackistan and exercise their democratic rights there.

  2. “The Canadian economy forms part of an unequal global economic system”
Which is most likely the reason your looking to come here…

  3. Kyla
maybe I should give U mine, and then re-apply myself and see if I can garner any freebies:-)))

  4. Next the insurrectionists, will point out that Her Majesty the Queen of Canada, is really a descendant of the german royal house Saxe-Coburg Gotha and is hence an ‘alien’!!
And OH MY HEAVENS, Her Majesty is, wait for it, one those baleful awful Christians…
    A Christian…oh you don’t say.
I don’t think anyone disputes that Her Majesty is the official HEAD OF STATE. This is basic elementary civics…
And if you are swearing an oath in front of a military official and representative of the Crown; well my oh my, next thing you know vee vill all be speaking german.
Pretty good comedy sketch material but they are veering into black farce.

  5. An astounding expression of pure ignorance and fiction.
Industrialized economies are, by definition, engaged in wealth production (which means, for the obtuse, simply, the production of surplus above immediate consumption needs). This enables these economies to support larger populations in greater health and well-being.
Who is privileging them? The UN? Heh. The economic system – ah yes, but the economic system is a force unto itself. No one agent, MasterMind, is running it. So, no-one is ‘privileging’ these industrial economies..other than the economy.
Economies, such as in the Islamic ME, which have rejected a middle class economic development, are impoverished.
Economies, such as in China, India and Russia, which have been generations behind enabling a middle class capitalist economy, are slow to catch up to the Industrial West.
Economies, which operate in ecological areas which do not sustain large scale agriculture, such as in various parts of Africa and South America (deserts, rain forests) are slow to participate in industrialism.
Inequality is thus natural – due to natural ecological resource availability, to population educational expertise, to cultural mode of development (collectivism or tribalism is generations behind industrial individualism).
The West moved into industrialism, not because of colonialism – indeed, long before the colonial era- , but because Europe’s biome or ecology, is the richest on the planet and enabled and promoted population growth – and innovation of new technology.
As for Canada’s long history of repression, exploitation and exclusion – prove it and explain how it’s relevant today.
And, are they serious that citizenship should NOT take some time? Should NOT require some knowledge of the official languages of their new homeland, should not require some knowledge of the history and cultural norms? Do we really want people who are here one day, to be eligible to vote? Heh – and then, do they leave the next day back to their home country?
Oh, the Queen is the Queen of Canada not just Britain. And also of Australia and New Zealand, etc. So what if the Queen is head of the Church of England; you aren’t required to join it, because, gosh, in Canada, there’s a legal separation of church and state. Unlike in, hmm, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.
How can this oath be a barrier to ‘exercising their democratic rights’? What does ‘democratic rights’ refer to in this instance?
Sometimes, I wonder how the left manage to get through a single day of living in reality. Their mindset seems to be so completely, ‘virtual’ or imaginary. They live in a totally fictional world, filled with false opinions, perspectives, total untruths.

  6. Obviously we can’t allow these poor people to come to such a sh1t-hole. It’s time to stop all immigration. That is what they want, isn’t it? Or wouldn’t the authors be moving to the countries these poor benighted people come from so they too can leave this unjust sh1t-hole?

  7. I notice that at the bottom of the arbeitering.com website there are a number of governmental logos indicating tax dollars have gone into producing this crap.

  8. @ Ken (Kulak):
    arbeitering.com = workersring.com
so you know which side of the marxist spectrum they hail from…

  9. I don’t swear allegiance to the queen but their little guidebook is a joke. Next thing you know they’ll be approving of he genital mitilation…

  10. “Written by a group of progressive scholars”! There is that misuse of the word “progressive”again. Just school yourself to read it as “regressive” and you will come closer to message they are trying to convey.

  11. Professors like that are the main reason for devalued degrees. Well, devalued outside of the public sector anyway.

  12. The “unjust exclusion” — the right to vote — that these whackjob academics mention is in fact one of the few rights that are included — “written in stone” — for Canadians in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The following are the fundamental rights that can already be denied Canadians and excluded by the “notwithstanding” clause and the Provincial “does not preclude” clauses:
    – freedom of conscience and religion
    – freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, freedom of the press and other media
    – freedom of peaceful assembly
    – freedom of association.
    – freedom of movement (for citizens)
    – freedom to work anywhere in Canada (for citizens)
    – right to life, liberty and security of the person
    – right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure
    – right not to be arbitrarily detained or imprisoned
    – right to retain counsel, habeas corpus, speedy trial, presumption of innocence, etc.
    – right not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment
    – rights of the individual to the equal protection of the law without discrimination
All of the above fundamental rights and freedoms are already dangerously negotiable under our Charter.
The following rights are the only ones left that are written in stone — not excluded by the “notwithstanding” and “does not preclude” clauses. And VOTING is the only real right listed for Canadians that is not limited to special interest groups:
    – right to vote (for citizens)
    – elections at least every 5 years (limited wartime exceptions)
    – Official language rights (9 of 31 Sections are dedicated to language rights!)
    – Aboriginal treaty and land claims agreements rights and freedoms
    – Official multiculturalism
    – equality of males and females
    – Separate school rights
All Canadians citizens have only one genuine right under the Charter: the right to vote. And these fascist a**holes even want to eliminate that!
It’s obvious why the Left wants to do that — the elimination of a democracy chosen by citizens is the final step to establishing their Fascist “progressive” dictatorship.

  13. They are doing an excellent job keeping stone age ar$seholes out of Canada. Couldn’t they add a section that Muslims are regularly shot down in the streets and that pork is the only meat available.

  14. Looks like the reputation of our university professors in this country remains intact. Our tax dollars at work. I don’t mind them putting their thoughts to paper on their own time. I would just love to know why I have to fund their thoughts doubtless expressed loudly and often to their unfortunate students.
I pledge full allegiance to PM Harper if he guts the universities.

  15. Those, COLD, HEARTLESS, B****RDS! They should provide free tickets to Syria for all those immigrants who have been duped into coming to Canada!!!

  16. The guide is an encapsulating summary of what is taught in humanities courses in every college and university.

  17. Uh oh. It turns out that my history professor from a course I took last semester is a contributor. Well that explains why ‘Canada and decolonization’ was basically a grievance-mongering forum.

  18. ET is spot on. It is amazing to see such profound ignorance from university professors. I knew it was bad but had no idea just how bad. Still it is because they live in a country which grants them the freedom to spew such nonsense and lies that they are free to do so. What I most strongly object to however is their dependence on the public teat. Let them do this on their own dime.

  19. I would merely point out that it is Canada’s “Law Enforcement” officers who enable this. What does it take to be called “Treason” up there in the Great White North? And what do YOU think would be called “Treason” if the roles were reversed? And do you think the reversal would matter in the least to your “Law Enforcement”?

  20. I notice that at the bottom of the arbeitering.com website there are a number of governmental logos indicating tax dollars have gone into producing this crap.
How many tax dollars have gone into producing your crap, Comrade Welfare Bum Kulak?

  21. Can I put in a request that this “People’s Citizenship Guide” please be printed on absorbent paper?

  22. And yet, despite all of the evil and nastiness probably 6.5 billion out of the 7 billion people in this world would become Canadians in a new York minute if they could.

  23. “Canada has a long history of repression, exclusion, and exploitation.”
I would like to know how many people holding this view say this solely because they suffered some personal failure, and therefore need some scapegoat to blame for their downfall.

  24. Essay assignment for progressive professors:
    Choose one:
What would Canada look like today, if it had NOT been colonized?
If Britain had not colonized Canada, who would have?

  25. Didn’t want to vomit so I did not read.
Fast fact: Sir John A. Macdonald upchucked in parliament over a liberal bill back in the 19th century.
This bit of truth comes from my 97 yr old grandmother.
    They thought it was hilarious.
Now I just want to buy a rifle. Looking towards a .308/7.62 for ammo availability/ stopping power.

  26. It’s only treason if the treasoners are treasoning in the employ of a foreign nation state, and it’s not sedition because they’re not calling for overthrow of the government. I support the right for people to say stupid offensive stuff, but it’s greatly annoying that 150K per year tenured professors do it for a living.

  27. “I support the right for people to say stupid offensive stuff”
Can’t argue with that sentiment, however the problem is that many who read that verbal diarrhea don’t think things through and actually take it to be fact.
It’s curious that those who come up with this mindless trash never do so on their own dime.

  28. Right – what I find offensive is that the people writing this sophistry, filled with misinformation, outright lies, blatant emotional and factual manipulation – are, as others have noted, tenured professors. Defined as ‘experts’ in history, societal organization, political systems.
And yet, their writings show them as ignorant, factually bereft of truth, and their writings offered only as personal opinions, filled with shallow emotion and bias.
Paid for, by we taxpayers, and offered as ‘expert analysis’. Disgusting.

  29. Well, an honest immigrant (and many are) would say, “I come from country XYZ. XYZ has a long history of repression, exclusion, and exploitation and corruption far beyond anything which you can imagine.” Just as a small example, a friend of mine from India remarked that in India it is best to avoid arrest (bribes can work) “because the police will beat the c*** out of you”. SOP.
After all, repression, exclusion, exploitation and corruption are the main reasons that people come from XYZ to Canada.
And often do very well. We recently had a leftist professor visit who moaned about intolerance etc. when he should have been asking if he were skilled enough to work as a butler for a Canadian of XYZish origin.

  30. I could give a rats A$$ what these lefty professors say or think, but I absolutely detest the thought that one dime of tax payer money is going to support their Marxist beliefs.Far as I m concerned we should offer them a one way ticket to Syria,Libya or any other third world sh!thole of their choice [how about France] and make sure they get on the very next available plane.Bet that 90 % of them wimp out and find some excuse why they have to stay here in the country they despise.

  31. I suppose it’s easy to come up with drivel when you’re safe and sound in Canada with a nice tenured position.
If any of these cretins were actually subjected to even a small degree of repression, exploitation or exclusion, they would undoubtedly assume the fetal position and soil their pants simultaneously.

  32. There we have it at last – the elitist left’s Canadian communist manifesto. Reduced to its essence, they believe that to be a good Canadian citizen one must hate our heritage and successes.
Dogmatic socialism is a mental disorder puncuated bt fits of dimentia.

  33. A thread with a similar theme popped up a couple of weeks ago and a commenter pointed us to the ‘Rate My Professor’ page for the author of the bogus item. The professor was not held in high esteem by his students.
So I thought I’d check out Prof. Jones’ ratings, which can be found here:
    http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=237861ts
Surprise, surprise. The good Professor seems to be almost universally reviled by her students, garnering a rating of just 2.7 when her University’s average prof rating is 3.3. One of the most common remarks is in regard to her ‘feminist’ tendencies, while another is her propensity to hold herself in very high regard.
    ‘Progressives’ = Predictable

  34. Perhaps this is a way to scare the less than deserving immigrants off.
But seriously, this is hardly a ringing endorsement and these “progressives” know it. They are more than welcome to live in the socialist paradises of North Korea, China, Cuba, Venezuela and Vietnam if they like. I’m sure there are no inequalities or colonialism there.

  35. The guide is an encapsulating summary of what is taught in humanities courses in every college and university.

Exactly. Which reminds me of my shouting at the TV the other night as Ezra interviewed a very young looking libertarian PhD prof from a US university who has invited Ezra down to speak to his class.
He was totally stumped on Ezra’s question about why so many young people like the geezer Ron Paul.
Naturally, I ordered my wife to pause the PVR so that I could deliver a brief lecture on why that is: Howard Zinn’s textbook, The Peoples’ History of the United States, which has taught a generation of young Americans exactly this kinda bullshit. And, naturally, they’re drawn to Paul’s nutty isolationist “blame America for everything” posture. Not for nothing did Billy Ayers give up exploding bombs and march into the university classroom.

  36. I suppose it would be easy to get indignant … if a person really cared what these pussies thought about anything.
Count your blessings folks … I don’t know anyone that stupid.

  37. Sadly not the Onion. These mushy headed humanities types are going to put satire out of business. Seriously, the humanities are daycare for unemployable pinkos with emotional issues.
