Never saw that coming…..
$500M to an electric car company. And people wonder why America is in trouble.
That’s the sweet part about Obama’s socialism, he gets to decide who gets what.
,
And they assemble cars in Finland . . go figure.
More like Fister Automotive…
100 years ago Baker made electric local delivery trucks and bragged how cheaply they were to operate. Why can’t someone produce a lead acid battery vehicle that can perform as good as 100 years ago? They have spent billions producing battery packs that costs ten of thousands each. What they need is a glorified street ready golf cart that sells for $15,000 with 100km range. And forget winter use.
Not sure I understand this fully cause Fisker isn’t out of cash. Fisker’s raised close to a $1 billion in private equity. It’s got the only electric (the Karma) that is actually a legitimate competitor in its class in terms of luxury, performance, handling and style. Heck, the Jag XJ looks shabby next to the Karma. There’s no reason to think the Nina won’t be as good. If Fisker can’t find a way to make this work with this stuff in its toolbox, then no one can.
On government hand giveith and one government hand taketh away.
From the article : They couldn’t make their milestones because of california government regulation/ “regulatory Issues”….shocker!!!!!!
At 100,000 bucks per car,I don’t see this is transportation for the masses, not a “people’s car” at all.
Unless those green jobs pay a lot more than I thought.
This whole green energy involvement by government is like the movie Groundhog day. Over and over and over and………..
Thanks Kate…but credit goes to Dave in AB.
I sent a somewhat related link about Ezra ripping Suzuki’s ‘charitable’ status.
How do you spell ‘sucker’ with only five letters?
O-B-A-M-A.
And in further bad news for the enviros, in the Guardian no less:
“The Himalayas and nearby peaks have lost no ice in past 10 years, study shows”

If I were a greenie right now I think I’d be spending some of those tax payers’ dollars on an open date one way ticket to Argentina to be used before the lynch mob catches up to me.

where’s the link?
It was in the ‘stinky sparky’ car post from yesterday 🙂

NS, Peter, when Obama was first elected I opened up a wordpad session and fiqured I would snag an article every once in a while and try to keep track of his activities. Well, let me tell you I now have 37 rtf files for each month this dude has been in office and that is 3 – 4 articles per day in every month. It’s like you say, it’s everyday he does something crazier and it just doesn’t stop and he is not gona quit.
And I thought the American People got pissed at Carter for giving away Panama, gas lines and 444 days of Iran. This guy takes the cake, no wait, his wife wants us to eat cake.
thanks for the link
Can anyone imagine how many Trillions dollars the US will be in debt if Obama gets a second term?
“Folks, we’re making a bet,” Biden said on Oct. 27, 2009. “We’re making a bet in the future, we’re making a bet in the American people, we’re making a bet in the market, we’re making a bet in innovation.”
That loan is part of a $1 billion bet the Energy Department has made on two politically connected California electric carmakers producing sporty — and pricey — cutting-edge autos. One is Fisker Automotive, the project heralded by Biden and backed by a powerhouse venture capital firm whose partners include former Vice President Al Gore and a campaign donor to President Obama. The other is Tesla Motors, whose prime backers include a major fundraiser for Obama and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
There certainly have been suspicions around Fisker because their major venture investor is Kleiner Perkins, who has Al Gore as a partner and is certainly politically connected in general,” said industry observer Sexton. “Whether that played a role or not is up to the DOE to explain.”

This is an almost completely useless car. There are umpteen luxury sedans or coupes that beat it’s performance, most for less money, umpteen luxury sedans or coupes that exceed it’s cargo capacity for less money, umpteen that are equal to or better on ‘fuel’ economy. Thank the Lord they aren’t getting money from the Canadian Government.
Read the test drive. I laughed out loud about the dealer showing off the solar panel built into the roof. It gives the car an additional 200, that’s two hundred miles of range per year.
Every single Fisker Karma ever made has already been recalled for…wait for it…fire hazard.
The recall notice came out Dec 30 2011…

$100,000. to drive a flashlight.. Probably a pretty good ride, but seems a little steep to me.
Why on earth would anyone build a car plant in Delaware???
Ah yes, Joe Biden’s state.
They don’t even try to hide the corruption, do they?
But what will uber-cool self-righteous Hollywood liberals drive!?
@ Philanthropist at February 8, 2012 11:40 PM
This car or any electric car is pretty well useless in a hot or cold climate. If you need air cond. or heat you are probably lucky to make 10 miles. We know that the Hollywood elite would never settle for anything less than cool. Only bark eating druids would drive one of these wannabe cars.
At least this car wouldn’t lose to a pedestrian at LeMans.
Electric cars work quite well where it never gets below freezing. They’re a practical alternative in urban areas where hydrocarbon pollution is a problem. One doesn’t expect biased experts on bark eating druids to understand that.
