From the noted denier website known as The Guardian;
The world’s greatest snow-capped peaks, which run in a chain from the Himalayas to Tian Shan on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, have lost no ice over the last decade, new research shows.
The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year and not being replaced by new snowfall.
The study is the first to survey all the world’s icecaps and glaciers and was made possible by the use of satellite data. Overall, the contribution of melting ice outside the two largest caps – Greenland and Antarctica – is much less then previously estimated, with the lack of ice loss in the Himalayas and the other high peaks of Asia responsible for most of the discrepancy.
Bristol University glaciologist Prof Jonathan Bamber, who was not part of the research team, said: “The very unexpected result was the negligible mass loss from high mountain Asia, which is not significantly different from zero.”

News so good they said it twice.
I just rad that at Drudge lol. None so blind as those playing on a government fiddle.
You can say that again…
50bn tonnes of imaginary meltwater missing and I can’t even shed a tear. I must be a heartless bastard *sigh*
“The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year”
Huh? Thought it was only religious folks who “believed” things. Scientists always confine themselves to facts… right??
You sure there’s not a misquote here?
Maybe: “The discovery has stunned scientists questioning…..
I just saw a news program on CTV saying how serious the situation was. You don’t suppose CTV makes up $hit?
those scientists were ‘stunned’ long before this study came out. Their poor scientific attitude show in the very fact that results contrary to their preconceived ideas ‘stunned’ them.
Some scientists are stunned because they see their AGW gravy train going off the rails.
The above commenters have it right about the “stunned” scientists. They became stunned as soon as they prostituted themselves to the Al Gores and government statists.
This past few weeks in central Europe has seen snowfalls that are on the order of ten times normal amounts and three or four times previous record amounts. It goes to show that even in regions that have a demonstrated positive anomaly in recent temperatures, that trend can be wiped out very quickly without “decades” of “mending the climate.” In fact I would expect Europeans to be clamouring for more global warming if this keeps up. It has been a case of “be careful what you wish for.”
And not even a mention from the feckless Guardian that this has just blown to pieces one of the key findings of consequence in IPCC’s AR4. Something which the Guardian was vigorously denying two years ago.
And notice how quickly they shift concern to “other lower glaciers” in “other” Asian mountain ranges, all unnamed of course. And naturally citing no names or research behind these supposed “others” in danger.
Re “The discovery has stunned scientists”, climate scientists mostly are not the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree. Fourth-raters, mostly (not all).
The climate heroes ‘are not significantly different’ from zeroes. Geez. Can we turn the billions off so they’ll STFU!
around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year
Sorry, did someone say there was a water shortage on what planet?
Just a thought here… but the Chinese and the Indians are at the top of the world’s polluters… and their mountains show no loss in the ice cap in the mountains between them. Could it be that the pollution they spew out creates a minor form of the Mt St Helen’s effect and creates a cooler environment while our Western efforts to reduce emissions is creating a slightly warmer environment by reducing or almost eliminating the human hand print?
I have no data to support that, I’m just thinking out loud. Personally I believe that the sun is mostly responsible and long term trends make up the rest… but if humanity has any effect on the planet’s weather, this might be it…
Let the games begin…
Oz “Sorry, did someone say there was a water shortage on what planet?”
Only in the deserts and people weren’t meant to live there.
but if humanity has any effect on the planet’s weather, this might be it…
~TOOMUCHSENSE
CO2 LAGS temperature by about 800 years, it does not DRIVE temperature. This has been known since the Vostok Ice Core study and confirmed in every single ice core study that has been done since.
Rest easy, humanity has no effect on the climate, however the first known time humanity had an effect on the weather was to create clear skies for the D-Day invasion over the English Channel and the beaches of Normandy.
Stunned scientists. Seems to me we have been saying that for years. Now if only our stunned politicians would see the light we might actually reverse the damage Gore/Suzuki and their ilk have done. Nothing short of a lobotomy would work for McGuinty and BC’s Clark will hang on to that carbon tax as long as possible. She thinks it’s just fine taxing a .038% trace gas. Truly stunned.
….and CBC reports that this study is a hoax, a nasty Conservative hoax. The beasts are just doing this to make us look bad, a trusted inside source revealed. There’s really no snow at all, it’s all melted, melted I tell you, this can’t be happening..can it?
Is California in for a 2012 drought?
Snow surveyors report that California’s mountain snowpack is about the driest it has ever been for this time of year.
There is a pattern here. All the terrible “proof” that bad capitalist stuff is destroying us and
the planet the day after tomorrow seems to hide itself in remote areas only reachable by
valiant anti Globull Warming “Watermelonists” fueled by huge government grants.
Thank heavens our future ruler Chuckles the Bold warned us years ago that decisions
were needed back then within weeks if earth was to be saved ….

That was Divine intervention, Oz, as was Allied victory at Midway.
I do believe in global warming,
I do believe in global warming,
I do believe in global warming,
I do, I do, I do…
Cue the “Global Warming causes more snowfall meme” in 1…2…3…
Grauniad is “on the case”.
From comments:
“But I’m sure WUWT is on the case. Though between you and me, I half wonder if that’s where WUWT goes wrong.”
George also gets a reference:
“It is minus 18 here in parts of B-W today and the rivers are freezing over. George Monbiot promised us this would NEVER happen again.”
The headline should read:
Is “climate change” threatened by the world’s glaciers?
…-
“Are the world’s glaciers threatened by climate change?”

Scientists recover their composure after latest setback.
http://youtu.be/dyMeaxmYKf8
So this article presents us with “scientists” so dedicated to their “science” that no amount of evidence to the contrary shakes their convictions. Alright-ee then.
This reminds me of an excursion I took a while back….
To India’s/Pakistan’s Siachen Glacier.
The reason I hyphenated the ownership is that has yet to be established despite 60 years of border warfare.
Both sides deploy brigade to divisional strength and defend this insanity by insisting that this chunk of ice is eminently strategic. The Chinese also claim sovereignty but wisely limit their activity to maintaining small observation posts.
The two antagonists have successed in inflicting 20-30 casualties on each other over 60 years but have sustained thousands of casualties(especially the Pakistanis) due to the high altitude and severe weather.
India occupies the glacier and Pakistan occupies the surrounding heights. The surrounding heights are the less hospitible environment, despite the advantage of high ground….the high ground is a killer.
The 70km glacier continues to grow slowly.
No “scientists” necessary to monitor the situation.
I see that the “Himalayan glaciers melted by 2035” hoax has been spun into a mere typo. They meant to say 2350.
Lying sacks of …
Geez if it’s all just a conspiracy, why publish stuff like this?
