  1. Liberal progressivism is defeated not so much with the ballot box but with the moving van. At the ballot box an entrepreneur only has one vote, the same as anyone else. But when an entrepreneur moves away, it’s as if a hundred people just cast their vote.

  2. Yup! People are voting with their feet and moving to areas with less intrusive government. I wonder where that is?

  3. Sounds like BC. Was wondering where Gordon and Christy were getting their lame brain ideas.
    Progressia

  4. …Joe Vranich, a business consultant who monitors the Golden State’s exodus, said in November that “large corporations, family-run companies and even startup enterprises in all industries continue to leave” due to high business taxes and excessive regulation “imposed on commercial enterprises of all types.”
Don’t think the exodus will be heading for this land of milk and honey on the north shore of the Great Lakes.

  5. Time to start a dead pool on Californicated. What with a massive debt, business/revenue exodus and illegal immigration straining the resources left, it can’t be long now. what will take it – Earth quake or economic collapse?
BTW If the movie indusrty left where would they go? Who’d put up with the loonies?

  6. Ports in California have had a lucrative business servicing ships from Asia that are too big to fit through the Panama Canal. Ships pull into port and their goods are loaded onto trucks or trains and dispersed to various locations in the continental U.S.
This will all change in 2014 when the expansion of the Panama Canal is complete. The larger ships will be able to transit the canal and go straight to their east-coast destinations in a much more efficient and less costly manner. It is estimated that the California ports will lose up to 25% of their business – said to be in the neighbourhood of 100,000 jobs.
Nothing short of sabotage can stop this but the California government along with business and labour groups are getting together to spend taxpayer money anyway, all in a useless attempt to make their ports “green” and “competitive.”
The widening of the Panama Canal now underway will give large container ships crossing the Pacific the ability to bypass ports in California and dock in East Coast and Gulf ports. The purpose of the Beat the Canal initiative is to enhance the competitiveness of our green ports and corridors to be ready to meet this challenge by the time the widened Canal doubles current capacity when it opens in 2014.
If this campaign succeeds, California will see job creation, business growth and retention, environmental benefits, and cost savings throughout our economy’s supply chain. If we do nothing and allow other ports to become increasingly competitive moving Asia-U.S. cargo to market, the implications for our economic recovery, the global environment, and our long-term business outlook are extremely serious.
Predictably California enviro-weenies are frustrating some of their efforts:
The ports, neighboring towns and railroads have launched improvement projects aimed at keeping them competitive. One proposed project, for instance, would speed the loading of cargo onto trains; others eliminate bottlenecks or increase capacity so that the ports remain alluring to importers. But a coalition of business, labor and government contends that these efforts are jeopardized by opposition from some residents, environmental groups and others.
Two members of the Long Beach City Council, for example, sought to block the construction of a new railroad freight complex near the ports, saying it would increase pollution and force small businesses to relocate.
This will be fun to watch – Spending billions in an attempt to “create more jobs” when the only thing that is going to happen is an exodus of a significant number of existing jobs.

  7. “He estimates a business can save 40% in costs just by leaving.”
Yep. And guess where they’re all going? Arizona, Nevada and Texas.
Unfortunately some of the people leaving California are taking the Stupid along with them and voting DemocRat when they get to Phoenix.
That’s why I like wearing my pistol -outside- my pants when I go to Starbucks. Gotta remind these wankers where they’re living, and there’s nothing like the sight of a big ol’ hog leg at the latte bar to generate some cognitive dissonance in the clogged up liberal brain pan. The looks you get are priceless.

  8. Next it’ll be kids in car seat until 12 years old.
And what about the midget’s? Car seats at 50?
I just worry that more of Californias loony left follows the conservative money out of the state!
Now even they are buying guns these days while they scream for bans. Very scary to think about these freaks owning guns really. Thank god most states do have mental health background checks and firearm under the influence usage laws.

  9. Mississauga Matt:
It seems the Mensa rejects in California have overlooked an important point. The east coast customers of whatever is on that ship are not going to have it unloaded in CA and then pay to have it transported across the US. Ships are the cheapest mode of transport. Plus, do they not realize that the east coast ports will probably, one would think, do what they have to do to take on the increase in traffic? Green will mean nothing compared to dollars saved.

  10. The geniuses in the Cali legislature past a bill now making it illegal to ‘Open Carry’ unloaded handguns as of Jan 01, 2012.   So now the OC activists are going Shotgun instead!   Oh my, those pesky _unintended_consequences_.

It is difficult to establish the effect of the improvements to the Panama Canal. It is not unreasonable that more than East Coast cargos(Canada and the US) will be affected….the Gulf Ports come to mind….and the Mississippi…..the St Lawrence Seaway….may all see increased traffic as well.
Twice in my time, the Suez Canal has been closed….inspiring the construction of the SUPER TANKERS….but even the prospect of the Suez being closed again sends EU markets into a tizzy.

  12. “Vranich calls California the worst state in the nation to locate a business, Los Angeles the worst city. He estimates a business can save 40% in costs just by leaving.”

  13. I can’t wait until the day one of the nanny states passes a law requiring all motor vehicle occupants to wear helmets. I will laugh until it hurts…
