For as long as I can remember SDA commenter ‘ET’ has eloquently and accurately described socialism and communism as 2-tier systems. Not two equal tiers though. More like a tall piece of cake with a thin layer of icing on it. In the political realm the icing constitutes the Leftist elitists who have proclaimed themselves more intelligent, more wise, more sophisticated, and generally just more cool than the average Joe. This cadre of elitists look down upon Joe with great condescension, convinced that he doesn’t have the intellectual acumen to run his own life, make his own investments, and even, in some cases, to wipe his own tush.
One of the most outspoken of these elitists is Canadian Naomi Klein. She has some new things to say about Global Warming. James Delingpole has some things to say right back at her!

Well Robert, I hate to say it but to a certain extent she is absolutely right. Most Dippers and socialists don’t have the brains to make their own investments or wipe their own butts – which is why they let tards like Naomi and other morons speak for them.
And yes, socialists always devolve to a state where a small ruling elite tells everyone else what to do.
Useful idiots like Naomi, Gassy Jack, David Suzuki and other useful fools go along with it because they think they will be in that ruling elite class. The only good thing about socialism is that such useful fools usually get what they deserve once their purpose is served.
An indicator as to how these leftards think is when they (I think Broadbent) coined the term “ordinary Canadian”. They certainly were not including themselves in that description whereas a lot of right wingers would, hence the difference between left and right.
Let’s remember that Naomi Klein is already a member of Canada’s Royal Family of Socialism, the Lewises: she’s married to Stephen’s son, Avi. Apparently, her grandparents were committed communists. Her activist parents and the Lewises may as well be.
When the rest of us have our goods confiscated and redistributed, Noami and her in-laws will be, as they already are, at the head of the line to grab OUR goodies and continue THEIR luxurious, HUGE carbon footprint lifestyle.

What’s the least painful for all the rest of us:

She opens with criticism of the ‘right wing’ sector that labels the so-called climate crisis as a tool for collosal societal change.
On the third page she writes,” Just as climate denialism has become a core identity issue on the right, utterly entwined with defending current systems of power and wealth, the scientific reality of climate change must, for progressives, occupy a central place in a coherent narrative about the perils of unrestrained greed and the need for real alternatives.”
Quite simply,she is advocating for exactly what she rails about earlier.
Lets pretend for one moment that she is absolutely right about everything. Then the first step to changing the world in her image would be to nuke China into oblivion, and thus stop 80% of increasing CO2 emissions in one step, and eliminate the country most likely to resist her.
I simply ignore anything Klein has to say.

Both her science and her politics are wrong.
CAGW claims that warming is not explained by anything but the increase in CO2, but with no additional warming through the last decade, despite increasing CO2 emissions, that claim no longer fits the data. Ideologues try to cover it up by saying “the last decade has been the warmest on record”, but obviously they can’t have their cake and eat it too.
Klein and her ilk are trying to hustle us all into their Marxist trap with end-of-the-world claptrap. Unfortunately for them, their claims are based on a foundation of unreliable science.

Exactly my sentiments, gellen.
I believe conservatives should observe certain key rules of mental hygiene. For example, you skirt mental illness if you try to explain to Michael Moore that he is a capitalist; explain to Naomi Klein that, while she advocated NO LOGO, she herself had one in the form of a byline and authorial credit for her books; that the nice cafe/latte life she leads is a direct result of capitalism-generated prosperity.
I refuse to read her predictable screed and the equally predictable smack-down screed, as tempting as it might be. Both are a waste of time and pyschic energy. I don’t think I’m closed-minded.
I recently had to kill a long-lasting e-mail exchange with a socialist “friend” who became a “libertarian” after I sent him Bastiat’s seminal tract, The Law. BECAUSE in 2008 he supported Ron Paul (ok, it fits) AND … Barack Hussein Obama (wtf!?).

Thanks for the reminder, Robert; I’m still around but I tend to be limited in my time. I post at Pajamas Media as ETAB and I’m busy with another book, and, I’m writing almost daily vicious letters to Toronto City Council about the idiot ignorant Occupiers of our St. James Park.
With regard to Naomi Klein, yes, she’s part of the cocooned and financially very well off Stephen Lewis/Michelle Landsberg socialist gang – who along with their friends, all from the same upscale district in N. Toronto and the same era – are really high up on the socialist elite hierarchy. And as such, they consider themselves Philosopher-Kings, who by their wisdom, and from within the cocooned security of their govt and academic jobs, will Rule over the Unruly.
With regard to Klein, her opinions about AGW have long been rebutted by hard science and are hardly worth discussing here. She has to show that her opinions that the climate is warming and that this is caused directly by man’s fossil fuel use – is a valid claim. Can she? Or does she just talk?
She can’t show this and an ‘appeal to authority’ (overwhelming scientific consensus) is invalid. Then, she’d have to show that climate warming has never occurred during non-fossil fuel use eras. And finally she’d have to show that we meddling, middling humans, can do something about it.
You know, a university campus is an incredible mini-world. You are financially safe with your tenure and isolation from any accountability for your words, classes and even actions, cocooned from economic, legal and even moral reality. These people are the Elitists who seek to Rule.
They align themselves with yet another Safe World: the public service. Equally protected by their unions, their jobs-for-life, their unaccountability and the utter irrelevance of almost all of their jobs.
These two groups consider themselves the Rulers. They are exactly similar to the old landed gentry of the 16-19th centuries, entrenched in their own innate superiority, sanctimoniously claiming that ‘he who works with his hands’ is but an ignorant peasant and must be Ruled.
And gosh – that’s what the Occupiers are saying!
The major problem in all our economies worldwide is that the Ruler class – i.e., the public service class supported by taxation of private enterprise – has exponentially increased beyond the carrying capacity of that private sector and has exploited their sense of entitlement to a situation where their salaries, benefits, pensions are up to three times that of the private sector.
Remember, the public sector (academics, govt jobs) do not produce wealth; they consume wealth…which leaves nothing for INVESTMENT in wealth-producing industries.
In addition to requiring support from the taxpayer for themselves – and again, the public sector has increased its numbers since WWII, this same public sector (academics and govt) has forced the increase of those dependent on govt support but who are not members of the Elite Rulers: the other non-producing members of the economy: the welfare, special assessments, loopholes to get out of taxes and etc.
Put these two groups together: the Rulers and the Peasants and it’s over half the population – and the middle class, the private sector who are the only group that produces wealth – can’t support this proportion of the population.
The Tea Party is the only group that acknowledges this problem. The Occupiers? They are asking, no, they are demanding, exactly what Naomi Klein wants: more taxation on that private sector, wealth redistribution (which is one of the stupidest economic suggestions I’ve ever heard), abolition of free trade and free markets…. So, these Occupiers want MORE but they have no intention of working for this ‘more’. Heck no.
They subscribe to the Magic Cauldron theory of wealth; it comes from some rich guy’s basement, bubbling up in infinite measure…
As for ‘corporate capitalism’..look, cronyism is a problem in every society. We all remember Jean Chretien and PowerCorp and the Desmarais family. But cronyism is a basic human emotion; even in tribal economies you’ll give more cattle to your brother than you will to the stranger in the next camp. So, we have to watch out for it, but it can’t be eliminated. That is’ cronyism’ is not linked to ‘capitalism’. It’s linked to ‘being human’…and the desire for power and profit..is basic to humans.
