I, too, think the comparison to homosexuality is dangerous. Yes, the legitimization of pedophilia may be starting down the same road that homosexuality took but the big, BIG! difference is adult consent. I am a libertarian conservative and as such I don’t want to judge what consenting adults do just so long as the consequences are borne by the consenting adults. Hey, I’ll even talk about some children being able to consent just so long as they are waaaaaaay mature and can pass some very rigorous tests. It is informed consent that is lacking in pedophilic relationships.
And on another note, let’s not compare Nabakov’s Lolita to pedophilia. Pedophilia is an attraction to pre-pubescents. There are many 12,13, and 14 year olds that have mature sexual characteristics and I don’t think it is “wrong” to notice that. What’s wrong is doing anything about it when you find out how young they are and how utterly incapable of having a mature and equal relationship. Again, it’s about informed consent.
