Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Colbert lampoons conservatives by characterizing himself as one of them — using the most extreme intolerant characterizations of conservatives imaginable. It’s supposed to be a comedy schtick and sometimes it’s really funny (I’m a regular watcher). But there’s an undercurrent of serious anger and anti-conservative bigotry in both Colbert and his mentor John Stewart — you come out feeling more like you watched a political rant, with a little bit of comedy attached.
You also come out feeling like these folks actually believe there is fundamental truth in what they say. But that’s why their not always funny — good comedy is built on fundamental truths because people like to laugh at themselves and their dumb foibles. But bad comedy has no basis in fact — it stretches the imagination too far for people to relate to. That’s where Colbert and Stewart often screw up.
To testify in a congressional hearing “in character” means that you can expect Colbert to fail on both levels: tickling our funnybones, OR contributing anything factually helpful to the immigration debate.
Last night, JON Stewart was flogging his new book.
Then he invited those who bought the book to burn it.
Now, that’s funny.
Is Charlie Farquharson still around? Perhaps he can offer a dissenting view.
Okay, that’s it. The U.S. government is now officially a joke.
Ricardo said “Colbert lampoons conservatives by characterizing himself as one of them — using the most extreme intolerant characterizations of conservatives imaginable.”
In keeping with that theme maybe the Republicans can have someone do a Senor Wences shtick to represent the Hispanic side of the argument. I’m sure they’ll be very amused.
The point Colbert and the left is lieing about re: the illegal immigration debate, is it has nothing to do with farm workers. A system protecting the rights of migrant farm workers has been in place for 40 years. We have a similar system in Canada. They are not “illegal immigrants”.
The Left is just plain lieing about this, and pretending we are back in the pre- Cesar Chavez days of the ’60’s when there was terrible exploitation (including random murders) of these people. The strategy of the Left is to keep racism and exploitation alive — to pretend that conditions are same. Marxism is based on conflict, and if there is no conflict then it has no traction.
Colbert is an idiot — he wasn’t even alive when Mexican farm workers had their difficult struggles 40 years ago. I was, and I worked in the fields with them side-by-side. It was nothing like today, and has nothing to do with the illegal immigration problem.
That is nuts.
Ricardo said “The Left is just plain lieing about this, and pretending we are back in the pre- Cesar Chavez days of the ’60’s…”
Ezra Levant has a great line about this. “For the left it’s always 1964 and it’s always Selma Alabama.”
Whoops. I think Styne said that not Ezra. So sue me.
What next? Ali G?
Maybe they could get Martin Sheen or Michael Douglas to do a wacky special guest appearance as the President of The United States?
Or they could invite Rich Little to do a few impersonations?
But seriously, What. The. Hell.?!
Hey, Obama was on The View (not something a world leader should really lower him/herself to IMO) and he and everyone around him acted like fools. And it wasn’t even supposed to be a joke! At least you can expect Colbert to act like a fool although I doubt a congressional hearing is the forum for it. Talk about diminishing the integrity of the hearing…
They should have gotten Tina Fey to come in to testify on behalf of Sarah Palin.
And someone more qualified to be president like Morgan Freeman can play Obama.

Why not? Al Franken is playing the role of a senator.
I don’t know why anyone bothers to grow fruits and vegetables, most Americans don’t eat that shit do they?
I suppose they have to get that slice of tomato for the cheeseburger somewhere.
Seriously, if Americans were willing to pay for their fruits and vegetable what Canadians pay, there would be a lot higher wages paid to pick that stuff … no?
The desperation sets in, ever deeper, ever more perverse.
As the Obozo administration sinks like an old ship that was poorly designed and has taken too many hits below the waterline, the captain and crew start to believe in desperate anythings to keep up hope.
In previous times, this desperation was summarized best by the phrase . . .
“Where is Wenck?”
Colbert and Stewart are pretty funny most of the times. What’s not funny is they are the best journalists in the MSM.
How does throwing a clown into the middle of this help?
I thought serious issues and entertainment couldn’t or shouldn’t mix.
How naive I was.
The left would rather an issue never addressed or quickly forgotten than discussed properly.
Osumashi Kinyobe said “How does throwing a clown into the middle of this help?”
It’s all part of the Alinsky thing. You can dehumanize and marginalize your enemy buy having people point and laugh at them. Then everyone piles on. It doesn’t matter how smart you are or how right you are once you have been reduced to a joke. It’s a very smarmy way of debating and the left love it.
gord, that is one of the tools the atheistic Bolshevik regime used in their attempt to destroy religion in Russia.
We have our own here, that Poofy Newfie, who Used to be funny, whats his name?… Living off the avails of our public prostitution–er-Communist Broadcasting Corpse.
i’m pitchering soupy sales being asked to testify at the house commitee on unamerican activities…to give us the benefit of his ever so valuable insight into the sitchewation…
senator tail gunner is obviously agog…
it writes itself…and it shows how desperate these democrats must be..
O/T Comment thread on the next post is inoperable.
I would like to see someone question Colbert’s qualifications to testify on whatever he is testifying about. And when Colbert admits he has no qualifications, then ask why he is wasting the government’s time. This is just as stupid as Meryl Streep testifying about Alar on apples! Someone rip this idiot a new orifice and maybe the next idiot will think twice before pretending their opinions have any weight.
During these economic times, when there are 12 million unemployed in the U.S. and an dailey threat of terrorist attack from Muslims, making a mockery of a Congressional hearing with the least popular Congress in living memory is going to go over like a lead balloon.
These elite Lefties sure have tin ears when it comes to the populist mood.
Fred @ 7:38, you must have read The Last Battle by Cornelius Ryan. That question would have been asked in April 1945.
Even some high ranking Democrats are jumping ship in that they are disassociating themselves with Obama’s policies. Most likely positioning themselves for the future.
Why this makes about as much sense as having long serving personalities from the state sponsored media outlet elevated to serve in senatorial and higher government appointed positions….
oh never mind.
Well, Gord, I hope all the illegal immigrants camp out in the leftists’ backyards. Then we’ll see how “compassionate” they are.
Hilarious Fred @ 7:38 & Ken (Kulak)@ 11:42
According to Antony Beevor: The Fall of Berlin 1945, Wenck’s eastward attack toward Berlin was aimed specifically at providing the population and garrison of Berlin with an escape route to areas occupied by United States armed forces:
Comrades, you’ve got to go in once more,” Wenck said. “It’s not about Berlin any more, it’s not about the Reich any more.” Their task was to save people from the fighting and the Russians. Hans-Dietrich Genscher, then a young sapper with the Twelfth Army, described their emotions as a “feeling of loyalty, a sense of responsibility and comradeship.”
Wenck’s leadership struck a powerful chord, even if the reactions varied between those who believed in a humanitarian operation and those keener to surrender to the western allies instead of the Russians.
Estimates vary, but it is likely the corridor his forces opened enabled up to 250,000 refugees, including up to 25,000 men of the Ninth Army, to escape towards the west just ahead of the advancing Soviets.
If this is the Democrat analogy, after the ‘we can sustain another terrorist attack’ Obama-Nation(tm) one could see him being abandoned in droves…when leaders behave like idiots.

Similar to Colbert’s ‘joke’…The upcoming Jon Stewart Rally for Oct 30 in DC is pure Alinski 101…It is ment to marginalize the TEA party and Beck followers. It is called “Rally to Restore Sanity”: A pure slap in the face to many. Already promoted by Oprah who sent a tweet on it yesterday…
