Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she got, she’s still Jenny from the block.
Well that explains his economic policies.
Americans can kiss their economy goodbye as long as Obozo & the Dumbocrats are running the show.
Call it a self-inflicted wound.
The 3rd link has a poll that’s just begging me to be a participant in. 😉

Fred….the problem is Americas answer to the pedophile(pee be upon him)is he isn’t running the country,Soros and his group are.
Vacations, golf, parties and constant adulation. That’s the Obama style.
Who is paying for this lavish holiday in Spain, with Michelle Obama and 40 of her friends as well as 70 secret service? The taxpayer. In a time of austerity.
As the article states, the Obamas view themselves more as celebrities rather than government leaders. Their lifestyle reflects this and Obama’s refusal to lead is obvious. His reliance on manipulation and propaganda ..from within his cocoon of vacations, golf, parties and a refusal to discuss issues with the press is obvious.
What will the Democrats do to deal with him and his celebrity lust. In a way, they are losing a real Executive in the White House, which is why I suggest that their first step will be to retreat to Executive Fiat. Sounds strange. But when you don’t have a genuine leader you can try to govern by dictatorship.
Laura Bush is a very classy and dignified lady.
In the last 30 years we have had 5 first ladies. Nancy, Barbara, Laura VS Hilary, Michelle.
What a contrast.
Yes, poor, poor Obamas. They can only vacation in Spain. Poor darlings….
ET
Wrong. Obama do view himself as government leader, only not the western government leader but African/South American/ME government leader. Majority of these leaders instead of really leading their nations rely on propaganda and manipulations and use their nations money for their own enjoyment and enrichment of their own families. Obama does the same.
70 Secret Service agents to protect one woman? That can’t be right.
Ok, call me a racist if you want but the man fits the description of a White Elephant.
“White (albino) elephants were regarded as holy in ancient times in Thailand and other Asian countries. Keeping a white elephant was a very expensive undertaking, since the owner had to provide the elephant with special food and provide access for people who wanted to worship it. If a Thai King became dissatisfied with a subordinate, he would give him a white elephant. The gift would, in most cases, ruin the recipient.
References to Indian and Thai veneration of white elephants dates back to at least the early 17th century. The first reference in English to the idiomatic meaning of the term ‘white elephant’ comes in 1851 G. E. Jewbury’s Letters, 1892:
“His services are like so many white elephants, of which nobody can make use, and yet that drain one’s gratitude, if indeed one does not feel bankrupt.”
Kate…I apologize for going off topic….but 65 years ago today…Hiroshima was the first city subjected to a nuclear weapon….and Nakisaki followed three days later…..we have unleashed the power of God…..and may God bless those who experienced the power of the A bomb.
I think that a new bumper sticker is in order.
Thanks for the idea.
When all is said and done about the present residents of the WH, Americans will forever be embarassed that they allowed themselves to be sold a pig in a poke by the MSM. November 4, 2008 will be relegated to the history books with the same distain as December 7, 1941: a day that will live in infamy.
@Justthinkin Well done. Thank you.
The Obamas must surely be aware that their lavish and extravagant lifestyle actions are creating alot of negative buzz in these times…I’m sure they knew ahead of time that the unemployment numbers would be bad again today. So,
Readers Digest version:
“Sticking it to whitey”
What a narcissist.
Next, I’m wondering if Obama would like to have a hall of mirrors installed in Versai… the White House.
Après Bush, le deluge, indeed.
I am reflecting that when accurate comparisons are made to the Court of Louis XVI….the consequences come forth….as Nicolae Ceausescu and his charming(/sarc) wife learned too late.

So, do you think that Michelle left the US to go party it up with the Spaniards so Barry could celebrate his birthday his way and go back to Chicago (he’s there right now) to visit the gentlemen’s club’s back in the hood without the family?
Did I mention that they were GAY gentlemen’s clubs? That is according to Larry Sinclair? (the limousine driver from Chicago, not my words) The FBI has scrubbed all the files and memebers lists in a raid just after Obama was elected! Hmmmm…just askin’!
Yes indeed, Obama and his wife lack class and are anything but humble.
As I have noted before, I don’t think Obama or his wife hold a deep respect or appreciation for the office of the President. For him, and his rather unattractive and brash wife, it is time to party and to also wreck as much damage on the country as possible.
(It’s a bit like giving kids who have never had to earn a penny themselves the keys to your house and your BMW.)
Historically, US Presidents who have viewed the position as just another trophy on their shelf are the same ones who have done the most harm to the country.
Let’s compare the last two First Ladies from the GOP side and the last two from the DNC side…….
Ahhh who am I kidding? You cannot compare two Rolls Royce’s to a pair of rubber boots.
AtlanticJim, I think you’re pretty close to spot on in your observation, but I’d prefer you eliminate boot and drop the resulting space!
I suspect that Barack Obama will come to a sudden end before the four years are up … if he isn’t forced out of office, he may be assassinated.
At the very least, he is already effectively a lame duck and unlikely to get his own party’s nomination for 2012.
But I sense that his end may come much sooner than that.
Baga- nice
Glac- in tha hood that’s known as “on the DL”
Oh yeah, thumbs-up to the “white elephant”. I suggest mailing Hannity or some other conservative that tid-bit. That would be a lovely moniker for the One.
When we see what his 49th birthday is costing the US taxpayers I don’t look forward to his 50th, next year!
“Je suis l’etat.”

sasquatch – I should have been more careful with my comment.
I know that Louis XV may not have said it (Après moi, le deluge), and that Madame de Pompadour may have, even though that’s not quite certain.
Clinton, Louis XIV (the Sun King) managed to avoid many tough times, mostly by ignoring serious fundamental economic and social problems.
Louis XV (Bush) started off his term as “beloved” – but then the consequence of the seven years war made him quite unpopular. (The US was just turning craptastic at the end of Bush’s term).
Obama, who is not my favourite person, is in a pretty tough situation. He’s stepping into the breach of many presidents’ decisions, which has left the US economy weak and vulnarable. (It was not just “evil Bush”).
I do feel kind of bad for Obama – because he’s unsuited to the job, and no matter what he does, he’ll be very unpopular. He’s sure not used to that.
Louis XVI was apparently a nice enough guy, but weak and indecisive.
But, I know you know your military etc history better than I do.
I notice Hillary is trying out new hair styles. Soros chipped in 2 mil to marry off the kid. Without Soros, bambam wouldn’t have had the network support. Hmm.
OOps – stepping into the “breech” – sorry, yes, I do have an edumacation.
I’m sorry, hasn’t President Dreamy McGenius sold a gazillion books – which he totally wrote himself and everything – since “just a few years ago” (when, you know, people didn’t know who he was)?
Gosh, though, I am worried that the First Kids might be forced to attend Community College. Their mother went to Princeton, which is real classy-like as Universities go, and even they couldn’t manage to teach the woman to write, let alone think.
But I sense that his end may come much sooner than that.
Parish the thought completely. I never want to see that SOB turned into a martyr like Kennedy. What I would like , is to see him impeached for treason.
Failing that, utter incompetence.
Between him & his wife its taken just two years to destroy a Superpower.
JMO
Revnant, not sure you can hang all that much on her shoulders.
Don’t know if I can remember a more disinterested First Lady and I have clear memories back to The Peanut Farmer’s Wife.
L’Etat ces moi. Louis XVI (Thinkez moi), mojo.
Peter O”Donnell – Hope you’re wrong; are you the seventh son of the seventh son, or something?
AtlanticJim :
Your probably right, but she sure doesn’t help.
She backs him up in his dislike of America.
Dammit people, there’s more than one dead French guy out there: It was Louis XIV!
R Shellen – as a conservative, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Is going on a massivly expensive holiday in Spain a “personal situation”?
R Shellen: Do you know what percent of college students engage in underage drinking? At least 60% according to online stats. (I would have guessed closer to 80%.)
That is not mom’s fault.
“Between him & his wife its taken just two years to destroy a Superpower.”
What a crock of propagandist twaddle. I don’t like Obama’s administration, but it’s naive and foolish to believe that America has only lost it’s superpower status since he took over the Presidency. America started loosing it’s superpower status in 1978 when the balance of trade started growing more and more negative every year. America lost it’s superpower status because it’s people drove it into debt with their insatiable appetite for cheap disposable import crap, meanwhile their unions pushed for more and more money and benefits for less and less work. This drove American manufacturing jobs to foreign countries where people are willing to work harder for less money. The American consumers destroyed their superpower status. China conquered America in the aisles of MalWart. However blaming all their misfortune on the President is a long standing American tradition. Their inability to assume any personal responsibility for their own problems has been their undoing.
Michelle’s European holiday is a slap in the face to unemployed and hard working Americans struggling to get by in a disintegrating economy. It’s much like the “Let them eat cake” comment Marie Antoinette is credited with when told that the peasants didn’t have any bread. Jerry Pournelle sums it up quite nicely in his blog today:
“The Imperial Presidency… most of us don’t book 60 hotel rooms when we go on vacation. For that matter, in these times of national deficits and trade deficits, it might be more appropriate to vacation at Camp David. It’s not really such a hardship. Or on the Gulf Coast, which is recovering from the oil spill, might be an appropriate place. They could use the money and the favorable publicity. Why go to Spain?”
http://www.jerrypournelle.com/view/2010/Q3/view634.html#Friday
John Galt – yes times two.
r gellen,
The reason why conservatives make it a personal and policy issue is that the two are like the weave of fabric. The personal values and standards and like the horizontal weave, the policy is like the vertical. When there is balance in both the fabric is strong and able to do its job well. When you have an imbalance like you are talking about, the garment is greatly weakened and hardly worth anything.
If I may make a suggestion, the next time you think you are wise and press on about policy being the only issue, think about what I have said…before you open your pie hole!
R Shellen – you ignore reality in your focus on the superficial.
First, Bush did not vacation at his ranch or Camp David, with ‘vacation’ understood to mean not working on his presidential duties. Both sites were fitted out as work units. The Obama vacations in Hawaii, the East Coast, New York etc were specific times-away-from-work. Therefore your suggestion that because Bush was at his ranch rather than in the Oval Office meant that he was not working – is invalid.
Second, your claim of Bush’s ‘alcoholism’ ignores that he acknowledged years ago that he could not drink and therefore, stopped. He was not drinking, ever, during his adult years in the White House. Therefore, your claim that he is an alcoholic ignores the generic meaning of the word and suggests that he was drunk and unable to work in the WH. This is also not true.
Third, your claim that if a teen-aged child drinks underage, then this is directly related to parental lack of control is invalid. Children are not on a control leash – except in the most fearful of households – and if they make one error, this does not mean bad parenting. Nor does it mean a lack of values or Christian upbringing. You could only claim that if such behaviour continued for some time.
By the way, having a drink does not mean not being a conservative or a christian.
And the Bush twins were 19 when they were caught drinking. Excuse me for not freaking out over 19-year-olds having a few drinks. (Illegal, yes, and that’s a very stupid law; and it was a foolish thing for girls in their position to do. But hardly indicative of alcoholism.)
Furthermore (*ahem*), I don’t think many people care that Reagan knocked up Nancy out of wedlock. I mean I didn’t sleep last night after I found out, but I don’t think that’s normal. Cotton Mather probably would have cared, but he’s been dead for ages. It’s really not the same as seeing the First Family partying like French Royalty during a serious recession while waging rhetorical class-warfare and lecturing the plebs on how we all need to make sacrifices and going on about how they’re really feeling the pinch themselves. The Obamas are hypocrits and liars and that’s very relevant to his Presidency.
(The Obamas have been described as behaving like “third-world kleptocrats” over in the comments at neo-neocon’s blog – i.e. deliberatly flaunting their wealth while mouthing socialism for the little people – and that seems about right to me.)
r shellen at August 7, 2010 3:10 AM
“I urge you to reconsider your ‘peronal issue’ driven ideology.”
And what personal driven ideology would you be referring to?
We all have past failures, but they either make us or break us.
As per the Bush garment thing, I was not talking about that but referring to your 10:46 comment about policy being the only thing which matters.
Regarding the underage drinking charges. It is a crime in most states to have a drink under the age of 21 years, in other states it is 19 or as being the case in Alberta, 18. So, by your definition, having a drink in Alberta at the age of 18 on Monday is legal. Traveling to Texas and having the same drink on Tuesday makes you a criminal- in the state of Texas- yet in Alberta you have not committed a crime. The drinking by the twins was a personal choice issue, one which almost every son or daughter makes while attending a major university or college in the world. One has to wonder if we don’t send them there to get a drinking degree and they minor in education. The Nanny State has encroached so much in our everyday lives, and we as the citizens of these countries just sit back and take the abuse.
Where and when do we learn the laws of the land? We mostly rely on our parents to teach us right and wrong. Our legal system is based on British Common Law and revised by precedent. We mostly absorb those laws from those around us, just by listening. As we teach the value systems in our society and culture and religious upbringings, those laws become apparent to the next generation. We feel the effects of the broken laws by either breaking the laws and getting “caught” or hearing about them in the media, or having those around us become impacted by the breaking of said laws. We are not taught the laws of the land in our schools, we have no “laws of the land” courses to take within the education system, unless you are moving in the direction of becoming a liar…I mean lawyer.
We watch the news and hear the stories about our politicians breaking the law every day and making excuses and justifying their actions and not standing up and taking responsibility for for the choices they have made. They are the hypocrites which damage the fabric of our society. Do as I say not as I do syndrome!
Take the case of the latest US Supreme Court Judge (Helena Kagen) who is already about to be charged with impeachment for changing evidence on legal documents which swayed the judge to allow live birth abortions. It has taken her being crowned to the highest position in the legal system for the people to be allowed to hear about this travesty of justice.
That is part of the weave of the fabric which I am talking about. The corruption in this woman is mind boggling, yet the system has allowed her to continue to rise, unchecked and unaccountable. She has no moral fibre within her, she does not take herself out of contention and the privilege of being a Supreme Court Justice even though she skirts and manipulates the laws of the land which gives her the freedom to be in this position.
The Iraq issue was a matter of getting a tyrant out of the picture, it was also a political issue and a personal issue. W wanted to finish the job his father didn’t have the cj’s to do. His desire was to repair the family name and take care of business, the Texas way. I happen to also agree that it was the right thing to do.
That being said, “The Occupation” has turned into a nightmare for the US and the rest of those caught up in the conflict. A war is a war. Have clearly formed goals and objectives, inflict as much damage as quickly and severely as possible, so as to minimize the damage to the enemies infrastructure and to demoralize them to the point of surrender and submission. This is the only way to defeat a bully, like Saddam. Either that or kill him. Job done.
What we have now is Empire building gone wrong. It has now spilled over into Afghanastan, and until the coalition forces get serious and really pound the Taliban into total and complete annihilation or grovelling surrender this “war” will last for centuries. Carpet bomb each and every village, outpost, and group of men, women and children who are found to be aggressive towards the forces until they cry for mercy. That is how to win a war. Not this feel-good liberal/progressive propaganda that we see being foisted on us by Taliban Jack and Slob Rae.
RS, Democracy is white elephant. Muslims know this and are multiplying like rabbits to take over the world by attrition, then by force. It it was happened in the former Yugoslavia, it is happening in Europe (France, Germany & England) and it is starting to take shape here in North America. The Muzzies are a patient and long term thinking people.
They will just wait it out.
When you say that it is anti-democratic, I nearly spewed my drink all over the keyboard. If you believe we live in a democracy which is healthy and functioning, then I would like to know where it is that you are living? It is certainly not here in North America.
Whether W avenged his family name or not will be seen in the years to come. The fact of the matter is that Saddam was the reason to finish what was started a long time ago. The coalition forces have placed a buffer zone between Israel and Iran, that would be a better explanation for the occupation, which I believe is a good thing.
As for W being responsible for the current economic disaster, spend some time reading something other than the NY Times and Washington Post. Your grasp of the work of the the Federal Reserve, which was created to bankrupt the country and enslave the masses with credit and dept, is limited at best. Try reading some real books about it. Try Ron Paul, anything off of the Mises Institute for starters. Then get back to us about W’s “precipitated the biggest economic diaster since the Great Depression” load of fertilizer.
