Best Canadian Blog
2004 - 2007
Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

great tune Vit, brings back memories – that one gets clicked to my ‘favourites’
I’m glad you liked it, Agent Smith.
Great tune. I looked at the live version that showed on the side. I always had a mental image of the “two time, two times” guy as a big black guy. Instead in the live video he looks like Santa Claus.
Earlier this week Michael Coren interviewed Lorrie Goldstein, Lawrence Solomon, and two other AGW skeptics. SDA regular, Matt, kindly recorded & published the show. I’ve posted all of the segments here.
In the 2nd segment Goldstein points out something very interesting: He mentioned how strange it is that the sort of people who have attended anti-globalization rallies/riots are often exactly the same ones attending global warming events such as the recent one in Copenhagen.
You need to listen to the show to follow his line of thinking but he points out that if you follow through where the Warmists would like to take the world, these same people at one rally are essentially protesting themselves at another!
Fascinating times!
Why is it “strange that the sort of people who have attended anti-globalization rallies/riots are often exactly the same ones attending global warming events such as the recent one in Copenhagen”? Remember, there are two definitions of anti-globalization in scope here.
Dateline Florida
Because of global warming:
Dozens Of Green Turtles Discovered “Cold Stunned”
The climate-alarmists’ computer model has a bug.
Livestock Being frozen To death In Their Thousands
Well, Ron, these things happen.
Vit, I do encourage you to watch Coren’s show, or at least segment #2.
But in a nutshell, here’s Lorrie Goldstein’s argument: If the AGW crowd were to get what they want then first world citizens will get heavily taxed and this money distributed to third world nations. Ultimately their goal is to destroy capitalism and traditional national borders. If that were to happen, that would be the worst sort of unaccountable globalization ever.
That’s Goldstein’s argument. Well worth a watch!
I agree, Robert. Yet it remains the case that they can be and are against globalization when it comes to the open market, while they are in favour of globalization when it comes to government. Therefore it is not “strange that the sort of people who have attended anti-globalization rallies/riots are often exactly the same ones attending global warming events such as the recent one in Copenhagen”, as long as one selects the appropriate definition of anti-globalization.
Stephen Harper doesn’t know what to do.

Come on guys, let’s give him some suggestions!
http://www.fin.gc.ca/prebudget-prebudgetaire/1-eng.asp
What? You want government to serve you, correct? And then
when the government asks what you would like to order, you say
“Stephen Harper doesn’t know what to do”? Now, don’t be silly.
Great song… One of the things that struck me about the Copenhagen crowd, was that there was many closed door meetings, yet the rabble were not up in arms about the hidden agendas. Some ‘anti-globalization’ is obviously more important than others. ‘Two legs good, four legs bad’ until ‘we who are concerned about society’s most vulnerable’ decide otherwise.
Here are three for SH:
income splitting for all.
Capital gains tax cut for next to years to 25% inclusion rate.
Estate tax of 5% on all assets over 500,000
Good link RW.
All four of Coren’s guests had the pertinent information at their fingertips !!
Hey,who pulled my posting?
It’s been all over the News for DAYS!
This is a little ironic, considering the anti-globalization,anti-socialization posts,to me anyways.Or maybe just odd. Anyways ,I met Kelly Jay (crowbar singer) at a tele-conferencing meeting that linked speakers to the CRTC in Ottawa. The issue was the monopolization of long distance telephone service. This was way back, maybe 1991 or 92 at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary. We were both against the existing monopoly held by AGT. Wow,memories.
There is no way, Mr. G, that you can infer from the
links you posted that the alleged pepetrators were Muslim.

This one brings back memories, although this is one of those songs where if you can remember it you weren’t really there (like the 60’s)
Not my fav at the time, but I had friends? who lived on this song and of course sang along to the chorus.
Anyway. My reader tip for the night. RT – Russian Television. Russia’s English Language network to the world. Channel 179 on Shaw in Calgary.
Many interesting points.
1. Unfettered and unapologetic capitalism, energy development, financial and market reports.
2. Intelligent interviews and discussions with senior Russian officials that last more than 30 seconds.
3. A very outward confident viewpoint.
There are a few things that grate, but if nothing else its a very different view. I am actually quite impressed and if the Russians actually do what they say they are going to do economically and financially then we are going to have to move fast to keep up. What is bizarre to me growing up with the specter of the USSR is that the Americans now seem more leftist/socialist than the Russians as represented on RT.
I am not naive about the media and still remain skeptical. Has anyone else on SDA seen RT? Any comments?
That livestock freezing headline is a bit disingenuous. Given enough feed animals like sheep and cattle can take a lot colder temperatures than those they are experiencing in Scotland.
James @12:20 Is there a website for RT or a channel number for Shaw satellite tv?
RT has a “website”… rt.com.
Don’t know what the channel is on satellite. If its any help its near the Polish TV, Japan TV and the all cricket channel on Shaw cable.
Another isolated incident brought to you courtesy of the ‘religion of peace’.The first line says it all.—http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/01/07/church-firebombs-malaysia.html
“Air Canada ordered to offer nut-free zones” on flights:
http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2010/01/07/air-canada-nuts.html
The headline is good for a laugh but the story itself is a sorry example of how utterly stupid we have become.
I agree, TJ, that headline is the mother of 10,000 jokes 😉
Sorry, the above sentence should have read “…itself is another example…”
Argh…to have a delete function for one’s posts.
Hmmmmm… nut free zones.
How about parliament for starters?
Oh yes I forgot, Dizzy Lizzy is not there …yet.
Thanks Vit, most kind of you to put the item up top. I’m sure SDA readers will have a hell of a good time with the headline!
Have a good night.
But if it’s a nut-free zone, then how
are we going to hold down the bolts?
Coyne plays Hamlet on AGW:
http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/01/07/the-truth-is-out-there-somewhere/
(via RCP)
Here’s what I posted in the comments:
“The title should read:
Coyne plays Hamlet on AGW.
The ipcc has yet to include the effects on GW by cloud cover and solar activity (and the affects of the latter on the former). Its key source of data on historical temperature – a source very high up on Andrews pyramid analogy – has been shown to be fradulent (perhaps criminally so).
And the politics of the IPCCs parent and the vast vast majority of its scientists and its commercial backers (gore, Suzuki, strong et al) is far left and in favour of heavy government control of all aspects of society – making AGW fit their desired ends perfectly.
Hedging on the issue is to ignore facts that any lay person – particularly someone as astute as you, Andrew can discern.
Fence-sitting Andrew so as not to be a pariah in the coffee klatches you haunt that are chock a block with CBC and Torstar types does not become you.
You can do better. (I have been a follower and fan of yours for decades Andrew, you know I mean the criticism in the sincerest of ways.)
ps- congrats for getting linked to RCP.”

Making Air Canada have “nut free zones” will do wonders for security, although I’m pretty sure most clients are going to resent sitting in the ‘nut zone’…
Of course that begs the question; will 747’s have nut bars?

Question: Who Is writing for The Economist?
In 2005, The Economist declared that “Canada was so cool” and Paul (Mr. Dithers) Martin was on his way to a majority government. Furthermore, that article and others were not very complimentary to Harper (who was opposition leader at the time). Well, that article was written by many inividuals including a Federal Liberal Senator from B.C. – who served as an advisor and B.C. cabinet rep in the Martin’s cabinet. Of course, in the article he did not identify himself as a Federal Liberal, as a Federal Liberal Senator or as a member of Martin’s inner circle! In addition, The economist simplistically commenting on our environmental policies without a mention of our need to be in line with the USA. Really? Did Canada’s favourite son Maurice Strong write this for them? Are European carbon prices falling too much? Google or YouTube ‘maurice strong’ + ‘jesse ventura’ and watch the videos. Finally, check out Google Trends for the USA on December 16 as Maurice Strong is the 11th most googled item in America.
Glad to be back. Good to see lotsa old regulars still making things interesting here.
This place is addictive. So much fun.

“Anybody who vacations in Mexico these days is playing Russian Roulette”?
No.
“Official Wang Zheng told AFP news agency the car park was meant to cater to women’s “strong sense of colour and different sense of distance”.”

Google Trends provides insights into broad search patterns. On December 16th, Canada’s own “Maurice Strong” was listed as the 11th most searched item for the United States. In fact, Google Trends (for the United States region) lists the search of “Maurice Strong” as ‘Volcanic’ on this day. Check out the Google Trends graph for Maurice Strong (United States) in the past 30 days. Anyone wonder why the spike?

Nuts aloft? Nuts below? More nuts here:
“As a mining engineer, the thought of injecting rock with CO2 to keep it from destroying the earth is nuts.”
…-
“Galen Haugh (19:16:53) :
As a mining engineer, the thought of injecting rock with CO2 to keep it from destroying the earth is nuts. I know there are plenty of people out there that think Greenland is going to capsize and dump it’s entire boatload of ice into the ocean, or that polar bears are going to invade Central Park and eat the natives because there’s no ice plates upon which to eat the last remaining seals up north, but I have a better idea:
Why don’t we just take the CO2 they’re planning on sequestering, press it together really hard, make diamonds with the carbon and release the leftover oxygen for us all to get high on? So what if we destroy the world’s diamond cartel? At least we wouldn’t have to worry about any rock formation leaking that nasty stuff back into the atmosphere for the plants to use. (I do hope they come up with a plant erradication program so the rest of the flora on earth doesn’t suffocate from lack of that dreadful gas since its been turned to diamonds.) Of course, we’d have to balance that out eventually with a progrom that reduces overall fauna, too, just to keep the gasses balanced. The most likely species to erradicate would be homo sapiens, because they’re the ones who have been digging up all that coal and burning all that oil and THEY started this big mess in the first place. It’t not nice to unbalance Mother Nature.
Maybe I’ll check myself into some place for the unbalanced, too. After that, I’ll plant some palm trees and watch them grow.”
