  9. Searched the CBC’s news archive for something on Kenney’s recent accusations against Ignatieff but of course could find nothing. Where’s something similar like “Tape reveals ‘real Ignatieff’: Kenney”?
    Love the way CBC operates. Often Ignatieff will attack Harper and Harper will attack Ignatieff. But both will be described by the CBC to favour the same guy. “Ignatieff slams Harper” and “Harper on the defensive”

  11. Just a comment about the supposed upcoming election that everyone is nattering about. Consider this, if the Opposition vote down the Government in a non-confidence motion then PMSH is obliged to go to the GG and ask Her to disolve Parliament. At that point the GG has two options; she can disolve Parliament and call an election, or She can request the Leader of the next largest Party in the Commons if he can form a coalition government. There doesn’t have to be an election if the Leader of the next largest Party tells the GG that the Opposition is united and can form a government. This is what the Liberals are betting on. After granting the Conservatives a stay of execution with the prorogation last year there is nothing to stop the GG from giving the Loyal Opposition a chance to govern. I could be wrong but just in case I’m getting out my sythe and pitchfork, cause I don’t see an election being called for this Fall and I think you should all get ready to batten down the hatches!!!!

    How many want to bet this nonsense would not even have been heard if not for the fact its was Conservatives wanting a majority in Parliament? Any takers? Thought not. If the Liberals would have said this the Toronto Star would have done hand springs in encouragement. Columns of how wise Iggy is rolling off the presses, shouted from the CBC. One good thing though. The Media has spent so much money on the last 4 elections I hear they can’t afford to cover Layton. What a tragedy for the Country.

  13. Antenor, while you may be technically correct, long-established convention would dictate that the GG dissolve parliament in the event of a non-confidence vote.
    Pretty straight-forward, and there’s certainly no compelling reason why the GG would act against convention.

While there may be no compelling reason for Her to act against convention there is also no compelling reason for Her to call another election in such a short time since the last one, and cost the taxpayers another 300 to 400 million dollars. The Opposition if requested by the GG would be legally authorized to take power, unlike last year when they precipitously announced a coalition before they were requested to do so. At that time they could have been charged for acting against the Crown. Now they are well placed to take over providing the GG give them the opening. It will be an interesting next few days.
