  1. So, steynonline’s down:
“There are no Items to display
    Politics & war
DB function failed with error number 1016”
So, what’s this about? Just my computer/server/whatever?

  2. These guys are great. ‘Love the line of saxes and the deep concentration of the players. No cult of personality, just the music.
And, Mercer and Mancini … those were the days … of wine and roses …
Is Woody the guy in the dark suit? Who’s the soloist?

  3. No, something is down with steynonline 😉 Hey folks, web site servers and/or networks go down from time to time. Could be a disk failure, perhaps the janitor kicked out a plug, you never know about stuff like this. I advise a little patience, at this time.

  4. I’m glad you liked that, Batb. Yes, Woody is the guy in the dark suit; alas, I don’t know the other musicians’ handles in this performance. I’d like to know who the bass sax player is, so I could search YouTube for other works he’s in.

  5. I’m all patience, Vitruvius. Will check back later — steynonline, that is.
    Cheerio! Off to bed!

  6. A small item from Drudge that indicates, rather plainly, “the more talk about ‘change’, the more things stay the same.”
“ALARM: National Security Agency has ability to collect, read domestic e-mails of Americans on widespread basis… Developing…”
http://www.drudgereport.com . Right column, near the bottom.

  7. Classic Dennis Millerism…
“The moderate in Iran is the guy that wants to cut off your less dominant hand.”

  8. I heard a rumor the one on the far right is Slick Willie(tm).
he can after all play the saxaphone like the time on the Tonight Show after his election win back in the dark ages. you know, before his lord and master dubya took the throne. or am I mistaken? no, wait, no, he was the court jester.
    LOL !!!

  9. Well folks, I just got back from the hospital. One of my best friends, and someone I’ve known since we were 10 years old (and are both now 44) became a Dad early this morning. His son is 9 lbs 2 oz and is 21.5″ long. I don’t know much about babies but I sense that’s quite large.
His lovely life was in labour for … wait for it … 53 (yes, FIFTY THREE) hours!
Long ago he & I agreed that we were brothers from different mothers so officially this morning I became an Uncle for the first time.
I know this has nothing to do with Obama or Iggy or anything else “important” but my focus is kind of different right now. But I am heading into the U.S. of A. pretty soon so I’m sure I’ll get thrown back into reality PDQ.
Anyhow, let me just take this opportunity to wish you all a great evening!

  10. The NDP threatened that the auditor would be punished by being frozen out of all future business with the government. Balasko froze payments to the auditor until he got tired of working for free and stepped away from the file.
    * Elections Manitoba failed to investigate the NDP insiders responsible for the scheme to defraud the public, choosing instead to blame the agents who signed the false financial statements which had been altered without their knowledge by a central NDP auditor.
    * Elections Manitoba failed to investigate the unions who were full conspirators in the election finances fraud.

  11. An interesting article. In my opinion prohabition causes more social abuse, than the substance itself. It was unknown mostly until the 20th century with its busybodies.
Its funny until governments take over the drug trade, wars always ensue. We seen it during the opium wars & now the Governments own persecution against its own citizans while supporting an aparatus that is corupt & corupting. Its better to keep it illegal so the profits are not spread. The price keep high. Our solution? Give out free needles & allow users to be beggered by pushers while they feel self rightious & have endless jobs.

    The liberticidal ‘war on drugs’
Bill C-15, imposing mandatory minimum sentences for drug-related “crimes”, passed on third reading. Expect to lose more of your liberty.
    Pierre Lemieux – June 12, 2009
You believe that mind-altering drugs are not conducive to the good life and cause broken lives (instead of being the consequence of them), that individuals who consume them are not always the most endearing representatives of mankind, and that your own children should stay away from drugs?

  12. PS: My buddy just phoned me a minute ago–he’s fuming mad! This morning he’s reading the Regina Leader Post–the headline reads, “NDP leader Dwayne Lingenfelter turns down caucus paycheck.”
My buddy is sarcastic–it’s his nature. So he sends a comment to Leader Post that says something to the effect that Lingenfelter is a real Santa Claus by giving up his paycheck, blah blah blah.
I mean let’s get real, it’s just tokenism–Lingenfelter loves money.
Needless to say, his comment never got published. My guess is that the Leader, as always, is under a new “Leftist Spell!!”

  13. Glen,
Link isn’t turning down money as a form of tokenism… He tried to get on the taxpayer funded caucus payroll as soon as he was elected leader (without having a seat in the Legislature) until the SK Party pointed out that he raked Elwin Hermanson over the coals for doing that same thing a bit more than a decade ago.
Link is now being paid by the NDP party until he gets into the Legislature. This wasn’t tokenism, quite the opposite, actually.

  14. How does Obama govern? Heh. Read this. Obama fired the Inspector General of Americorps, Walpin, without a 30 days notice as required by law and without providing reasons, also required by law. When pressed by Congress to comply with the law, Obama replied that he has ‘lost his trust’ in Walpin.
When informed that this is a conclusion and not a reason for coming to that conclusion, the WH replied, that at a meeting, Walpin
“was confused, disoriented and unable to answer questions and exhibited behavior that led the board to question his capacity to serve”
And, he “exhibited a lack of candor in providing material information to decision makers.”
He “engaged in other troubling and inappropriate conduct.”
He “had become unduly disruptive to agency operations, impairing his effectiveness”
Again, Obama doesn’t know the difference between reasons and conclusions. The above are all, every single one of them, conclusions. Not only without evidence. But totally subjective.
So, what is the actual reason why Obama fired this man?
“Walpin led a 2008 investigation into allegations of misused taxpayer funds distributed by AmeriCorps to the St. HOPE Academy of Sacramento, founded in 1989 by Obama supporter and former NBA player Kevin Johnson. Walpin said Johnson, now mayor of Sacramento, misused roughly $850,000 in AmeriCorps funds. His referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not result in the filing of criminal charges. But St. HOPE officials agreed, via a settlement, to repay half of its AmeriCorps grants”.
Ahh, so, it was an investigation into a friend and supporter of Obama. Oh, and also, Michelle Obama is apparently involved. Her former chief of staff isi now with AmeriCorps.
Chicago politics. Thugs, manipulation, and constant artful baffling rhetoric.

  15. Uncle Rob, now that is a good thread to read this morning.
I hope your nephew realizes (in time) that he now has the biggest guilt trip a mom can ever throw on a kid. “I suffered for fifty-three hours bringing you into this world and this is how you reward me? Now go to your room.” I never did learn a snappy comeback to that one myself.

  16. Correct me if I am wrong, but would this firing of a inspector general, not be the equivalent of a Prime Minister firing our Auditor General Sheila Fraser.
“The government watchdog President Obama canned for allegedly being “confused” and “disoriented” fired back sharply Wednesday, saying the White House explanation for removing him was “insufficient,” “baseless” and “absolutely wild.”
Gerald Walpin, who until last week was the inspector general for the Corporation for National and Community Service, told FOXNews.com that part of Obama’s explanation was a “total lie” and that he feels he’s got a target on his back for political reasons. ”
“I am now the target of the most powerful man in this country, with an army of aides whose major responsibility today seems to be to attack me and get rid of me,” Walpin said.
    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/17/fired-ig-calls-white-house-explanation-baseless-says-hes-targeted/

  17. alan – yes, similarities to firing the Auditor General would be relevant.
Both Fox and CNN (especially Lou Dobbs) are on this. And of course, the blogs, such as Michelle Malkin, Hot Air.
How is Obama going to get out of this? The fictional world that he lives in consists only of people whom he can control. If you can’t be controlled by him – then, you are out; you don’t exist.
The ‘reasons’ Obama gave for firing him are unacceptable; they aren’t reasons; they are ungrounded opinions.
So, how is Obama going to deal with this? His lifestyle has so far kept him from ever, ever, having to face reality. Here, he has someone fighting back and telling him openly that the ‘Obama world’ is a total lie. Obama can’t handle that.

  18. Looky at the cozy relationship both Obamas had with unrepentant terrorist William Ayers.
    http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/971106/justice.shtml
Why is anybody surprised at anything that this guy does. His original lie is still his best “Just some guy in the neighborhood.”
Of course this ties in with the illegal firing of the inspector general for the Americorps program, beloved of Barrack, Michelle, and Ayers.

  19. … but, MSM media & “experts” told us that Saddam did not have a WMD “program”, “nuke”, or any other WMD, aka Weapons of Mass Destruction.
    …-
“Experts Involved In Nuke Program with Saddam Era Plan To Make Use Of Their Expertise in Iraq
Minister of Science and Technology Ra’id Fahmi Jahid pointed out, “The Science and Technology Committee has contacted a number of Iraqi experts and scientist who were associated with the Iraqi Nuclear Program during the Saddam regime. Additionally, Iraqi professors are being sent abroad to gain international training. We are planning to build a nuclear plant for peaceful purposes. We made this decision after Iraq’s continuous power shortages. However, this issue needs human and financial resources and international assistance.””

  20. Obama can’t handle criticism or dissent. He is now whining, and I use the word with intent, that Fox News is always criticizing him. Heh. It never occurs to Obama that quite possibly, his actions merit criticism. His narcissism won’t let that action, dissent and criticism, enter his world.
He’s now informing us that the ONLY reason he does what he does is…heh..because of Bush.
Obama said, “I think the irony … is that I actually would like to see a relatively light touch when it comes to the government,” he said Tuesday in a White House interview.
…”You set up some rules of the road, ensure transparency and openness, guard against huge systemic risk that will lead…government potentially having to step in to avoid a depression, and then let entrepreneurs and individual businesses compete and do what they do.
“And so it’s puzzling to me sometimes to hear the standard conservative critique of what we’re doing, when essentially every step we’re taking involves cleaning up the mess that we found when we arrived here at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
So, we now find that Obama believe in private enterprise, freedom of individuals – and everything, including that pork-filled stimulus, his takeover of GM, his trillion dollar deficit, his health care, his attempts to control private businesses…they are not his ideas or agenda. No way..it’s all due to Bush.
Oh, and his relativism on the foreign scene, his insults to the UK’s Brown, to Sarkozy, to others, his bowing to SA King, and so on – all due to Bush?
His lack of transparency, his firing of Walpin and so on. All due to Bush?
Can’t he take responsibility for anything?

  21. ET, here is some more information for you as Obama’s socialism gathers speed
“Under the Obama plan, the government would be empowered to seize and unwind large, troubled companies that are not banks, modeling the process on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp’s existing power to unwind failing banks.”

  22. “Boston-area art appraiser refuses to work for global warming skeptic
Climate of hatred: Prominent scientist refused service due to skepticism
Prominent MIT physicist and global warming skeptic, Richard Lindzen, was recently refused the services of a Boston-area art appraiser because of global warming.
As Lindzen described in an e-mail:
In our recent house fire, an 18th century oriental rug was burnt, and we needed an appraisal of its value for our insurance. We were referred to a dealer, [name withheld], who agreed to do the appraisal. However, when my wife, Nadine, brought him the burnt rug, he rudely turned her away saying that he had sent me an email explaining his position…
Here’s the text of the art appraiser’s e-mail to Lindzen:
I am sorry to inform you that after some consideration, I’ve decided not to perform the appraisal service that you’ve requested. Your writing on the subject of global warming is offensive to me personally, and I feel that I would have difficulty being an impartial appraiser of value given my view on the subject.
If you’re not familiar with Lindzen, here’s a clip from his bio:”

  23. “I think the irony … is that I actually would like to see a relatively light touch when it comes to the government,”

    Obama
That is brilliant. Really. When you note the irony of your lies as if that was the important feature. It is so nice to have an intellectual in the WH.
