Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here are The Middlecreek Swingers, from Mt. Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania, performing some excellent Square Dancing ¤ at the Pennsylvania Farm Show (5:00). Mable and Alice are hilarious, and the split and swing at 04:20 just cracks me up: “ooh my goodness” π
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Calgary school finally lowers tattled flag.

They finally hauled it down yesterday afternoon, the threadbare, tattered shame of Calgary’s public school system.
Interesting tomax7.
So, here’s my question – as a westerner born and raised, I feel a strong affiliation with flag, (and in a secular way) queen, and (in a real way) country.
I don’t think I’m alone – probably many of us out here
What is the situation east of the Manitoba/Ontario border?
I remember talking to a guy in Halifax once – he was a conservative – a pretty lonely guy (politically)
Lonlier tonight as Nova Scotia succumbs to the siren song of the socialists.
Syncro
He knocked, but no one was home.
Everyone was out protesting.
No work was to be done.
No joy to be had.
It was sad.

And the sickness spread through the land.
No positives were left, only negatives.
Thus people were overcome by a plague
of despair, consumed by petty politics.
Ok, vit…
I’m positive the Nova Scotians will regret the vote, just as Ontario regrets Rae Days.
I should care?
It matters not a whit Vit.
It is what it is π
Syncro
No…don’t care if you do.
You seemed to be looking for something positve.

And you, you, Syncro. Of all the people!
At least you, I thought, would bother to
appreciate tonight’s show. But no, alas.
Everyone just takes advantage of me, as
if I were just some cheap whore. Sob ;-(
For the record supra: no, I’m not serious, I’m
tryin’ to get y’all to watch tonight’s show π
OK, Vit, I know you put a lot of work into the late night radio, and you want people to listen, I get that
I listened to the Project Strigas Affair in its entirety – as per your expectations
But square dancing – sorry – no!!! I canna do it!!
Damn it Erik, please, try it. It’s not normal square
dancing, I promise, or there would be a picture.
Vit
All whorishness aside….Tonight’s program kinda pissed me off….what with that rich guy on the Deere trying to upstage My Granma and Aunties on the Farmall’s…..It’s always been that way….it’s always about color and gender…
Syncro
Yes, yes, of course, Syncro, yet the umbrella was genius!
OK, watched it in its entirety
Nice precision, I must say!
What did this remind me of? Well, going to the Western Deveopment Museum in Saskatoon back in the 1970s – and thinking as a young whipper-snapper – who cares about all these old machines? And who cares about these old guys driving them around?
I am much wiser now, thanks.
And thanks to the “old guys” who drove those machines around . . . .
Old guys and old gals, Erik, four of each.
Listen: the caller makes the pairings clear.
Thanks, vitruvius – I loved it. Square dancing is great – a very special part of the great American life – of community, sharing, farming, slogging through the hard times and then..that celebration in the barn dances.
Yes, the umbrella was special. But pink tractors – ahh, that was neat.
Aye, ET. My favourite is the bright green tractor π
Say, you know, I wonder whether or not the umbrella shtick is a tool they use to provide a “center of gravity”, that is to say, a planar geometrical reference point, constant across multiple discordant stages, for coordinating their performance?
OK Vitruvius, I HANG MY HEAD IN SHAME! But gender issues aside for the current video – in the 1970s, it was only old men who drove the machines. And I thought – “so what”
I am a bit wiser now
Erik. Listen. In my original posting first above
I wrote, Mable and Alice are hilarious. Hello???
There are chicks involved here, dude π
Besides, my mother can drive a tractor.
ET and Viruvius – I stand in awe of my relatives – who are farmers
They accept what the “gods” small g – will deliver, through rain, hail, etc
I work hard too, but maybe not as hard as they do.
if someone told me – “they will put your yearly salary on a truck on the wrong side of your mountain range – and it has a 30% chance of reaching you” – I wouldn’t view my profession too kindly
Yet that is what farming is!!!!
Hear, hear, Erik, I’ll drink to that!
One of the greens is a John Deere, the other an Oliver?
For those interested the Tractor/Aircraft Museum in Wetaskawin AB is awesome.

As a young lad I loved to stop by the ‘blacksmith’ shop in town. Old time farmers would gather and swap tales of driving old farm equipment. Case steam engines that turned left when you steered right. Old combines pulled by horses. Of course these conversations took place at coffee while the men worked on the old John Deere ‘one lungers’, Stout green Olivers, bright red International Farmalls. Even brighter yellow Minneapolis Molines. Some spoke fondly of their Field Marshals that were started with a shot gun shell and were unique because the engine could run forward or backward. Few spoke of the new tan coloured diesel Case and deep red Massey Fergusons, their dealerships were competition to the blacksmith. Anyone mentioning Allis Chalmers, Fords (except the little Ford 9N) or Deutz’s were laughed at as those weren’t real tractors.
Did I mention I am an old farm tractor fan?
Loved the video Vit.
Not just an NDP government in NS, but an NDP majority. The PCs got knocked all the way to third place, a resounding rejection of that clown Rodney MacDonald.
Could be a very long four years for the Bluenose province.
That’s old Stan Reynold’s place, Syncro, god rest his soul. I used to hang out there as a little boy. I think, maybe, his tiny three-cylinder dozer was my favourite, but my dad loved the ’38 Cord. I’ve got pictures of me there, 45 years ago, somewhere. Anyway, it’s a heritage site, now.
Bernie: the green tractor with the enclosed engine is an Oliver. Most farmers removed the engine cowlings which allowed the engines to cool more effectively on a hot day. The Olivers also had a roll up canvas ‘blind’ that could be raised up to cover the front of the radiator during real cold weather operation.
Joe
No mention of the Massey Harris…mind you our family was devoted to IHC.
Syncro
That’s it Vit!
We flew down from Fort Mac when I was a kid to look at Stan’s stuff….before it was a museum..
I guess you got the up close as a local. Lucky bugger. That is a superb collection of pioneer innovation and engineering.
Syncro
“Old guys and old gals, Erik, four of each..”
Erm, who’s going to break it to Vitruvius that those are guys in babushkas? I don’t have the heart.
That’s ok, EBD, Ru Paul already told me.
Here is the Middle Creek Tractor Swingers web site.
yes.
it was a worthy addition to SDA’s Late Nite Radio.
I think the idea is… get taken to see something out of the norm, just stretch your legs a bit, take a walk outside your comfort zone…
That big big big pipe organ, Spiller/ live, stuff you just don’t hear here everyday. however, I tried, I failed, I can’t do the old time detective series.
I just tune out, and head straight to my favorite latina store.
The Obama Deception –
The Obama Deception is a hard-hitting film that completely destroys the myth that Barack Obama is working for the best interests of the American people.
The Obama phenomenon is a hoax carefully crafted by the captains of the New World Order. He is being pushed as savior in an attempt to con the American people into accepting global slavery.
We have reached a critical juncture in the New World Order’s plans. and only by exposing the con can we help to save freedom in America. The Obama Deception is not about Left or Right: it’s about a One World Government.
The international banks plan to loot the people of the United States and turn them into slaves on a Global Plantation.
Covered in this film: who Obama works for, what lies he has told, and his real agenda, and how his initial appointments and actions prove he serves the corporate oligarchs, not the American people. If you want to know the facts and cut through all the hype, this is the film for you.

Marc
Well ya can’t fault Vit for trying π
Syncro
Yer right Synco, I didn’t mention the Cockshutts either for fear of untoward sniggers. My family was Oliver bound. Dad told me that one day in the mid ’30’s Grandpa got the car stuck in a snow bank and so they decided that they would fire up the old Oliver 88. It had not run all winter and the temperature was -40. The tractor was in a shed and it was so stiff that Grandpa and Dad stood on the crank and pushed against the shed rafters just to get the engine to turn over. When the crank hit the bottom of its first swing the old tractor roared to life. Grandpa went on to own a couple of Oliver 99’s as well. I once tried to drive one but my boyish muscles didn’t have enough strength to turn the steering wheel.
Thanks, Syncro, for your understanding.
I just feel that I’m struck with this mission:
nay, it can’t, it can’t, all be about Obama.
oh! far from that Syncro, that little stretch ‘il do us good…
*as if I were just some cheap whore*
that’s going to come back and haunt you Vit… π
Okay, went to the Middle Creek Tractor Swingers site, Vitruvius. Ahem: “Tractor operators are appropriately (debatable) dressed for their *roles* as men or women partners.”
Those are men in babushkas.
/:>o>
oh yeah, now their cross dressing website is gonna go down from the spike driven from SDA.. jaja.
From haunt you got nothing, Marc. Anyway,
I was agreeing with you the first time, EBD.
I read about them before posting tonight’s show.
What did I say at 11:10 supra:
“Listen: the caller makes the pairings clear.”
Or what, engineers aren’t allowed to do art?
My sincere apologies, Vitruvius, sir. It’s just that when Erik mentioned the “old guys”, you appeared to correct him — “old guys and girls, Erik.”
For some reason I took that to mean that you were saying that there were old guys and girls.
/8>x>
Good tractor-dancing, though. If I may be so bold, I would rate it as being among the very best I’ve seen.
Just so, EBD. And, that’s the key, eh what? So rarely does
one see such a fine performance of classic tractor dancing.
How it played in Jerusalem:
“‘Feel the hate’ for Obama”
*untoward snigger*
If Cockshutts gets a snigger, thank god you
didn’t have to handle shuttle-cocks all day.
You would be hopeless in charge of a loom π
Outstanding in their field.
Well, technically, out rolling in their field.
