Insider testimony proves bias of members of Big Media
http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2009/05/obamedia-wanted-to-bring-palin-down.html
“Let me make this clear, because this is my world and these are the people I’ve worked with for twenty years,” Brzezinski explains.
“Members of the network media elite, as well as members and people who worked for the New York Times when Sarah Palin first came on the scene, and this is what they knew about her: She was a woman, she was pro-life, and she had some very, very conservative views on other issues,” Brzezinski says.
“And all I could hear from my friends in the network media elite was, ‘Let’s bring her down. I hope these rumors bring her down.’
“And at a party where there were people from The New York Times, all they would talk about is the rumors that they hoped would bring her down,” Brzezinski says of the troubling behavior of some of her media colleagues.
Misguided Tamil protesters
National Post Published: Wednesday, May 13, 2009
Re: Expressway March Called Spontaneous; No Leadership Group, Say Demonstrators, May 12.
While all Canadians must be concerned about the killing of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka, there should be no misunderstanding about the objectives of the demonstrators who blocked the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto on Sunday. If their primary concern had been the safety of Tamil civilians, they would have been calling on the Tamil Tigers to allow those trapped in the war zone to flee to safe areas, instead of using them as human shields. Clearly, however, the objective of the demonstrators was to bring about a situation that would allow the Tigers to preserve their fighting capability and prolong the insurgency.
When one of the demonstrators was asked by an interviewer why she was carrying a Tamil Tiger flag, she replied that it was because this was the only group that was fighting for the interests of Tamils in Sri Lanka. To the extent that there is any truth in this statement, it is a reflection of the fact that the Tigers have relentlessly hunted down and murdered moderate Tamils dedicated to achieving justice for their community by peaceful and democratic means. These include people I knew and admired, such as lawyer, human rights activist and member of parliament, Neelan Thiruchelvam, and the head of the Tamil United Liberation Front, Appapillai Amirthalingam, along with many other Tamil political leaders.
The demonstrators borrowed a page from the Tiger playbook — exposing young children to danger. Unless Canadian authorities are prepared to prevent such illegal activities from taking place in the future, the residents of Toronto and other Canadian cities should be prepared for more such incidents by groups using Canada as a base for settling scores in their former homelands.

Susan G. Cole attacks Ezra Levant. Here’s a choice quote from this hatemonger:
“Levant spouts all the near-religious-in-tone rhetoric about how freedom of speech is his inalienable right. Ridiculous. Freedom of speech as an absolute is an American fantasy.”
She reminds me of why all of us must keep on speaking out against the Radical Left!
Juxtaposition this?
Caledonia Ontario, in a response to a court order to remove native protesters disrupting the lives of local citizens Dalton McGuinty urges calm and orders that the OPP not enforce said court order.
But when Tamil protesters block off a section of highway in liberal lovin Toronto he immediately orders the OPP to remove the protesters.
It’s been interesting in the last few years to see the citizens of Holland, Norway, Denmark, Britain and other countries waking up to the impasse between the top-down social prescriptions of the politicians and the attitudes of the native-born.
In an article in City Journal —
http://www.city-journal.org/2009/19_2_pim-fortuyn.html
Bruce Bawer notes that starting in the 1960s Western Europe was, for much of the American Left, “nothing less than an abstract symbol of progressive utopia,” but that “in recent years, something has happened to complicate the Left’s fanciful picture even further: Western European voters’ widespread reaction against social democracy.”

Robert, the most notable thing about Susan G. Cole’s witless poco column is the way she is absolutely excoriated and battered from post to post by her commenters. It’s rare to see that many angry and intelligent critiques in one place, let alone immediately under the article in question. It’s heartening to see.
Earlier, in another piece at Now magazine, Miss Susan leaves us with this lump of Cole:
“Please greet me with the phrase Happy holidays, not Merry Christmas. I don’t celebrate Christmas and fully half of the people in Toronto, one of the most diverse cities in the world, don’t.”
“So, be inclusive. Say Merry Christmas only to people you’re absolutely sure celebrate that holiday. Play it safe with the rest of us.”

Either she’s a disturbingly obedient statist drone or “Susan G. Cole” is the pen name of a satirist of the highest order.
Anyway, she (“I Ruby Dhalla”) was wrapping up her moving statement to a parliamentary committee, in which she detailed her haunting experience of the past week or so, when she explained that, although “people have used the words ‘power’ to describe those that are in politics and the caregivers as the vulnerable,” they have it ass-backwards.
Stolen from G & M column.
An excellent characterization of “I Ruby Dhalla” in an opinion piece by Blatchford.

What I love about the demonstrations is the inherent irony. Part of the Tamil community’s beef is that the Sri Lanka gov’t is inflicting “collective punishment” on the innocent Tamil population in Sri Lanka in their war to wipe out the Tigers and that this “collective punishment”, as it were, is an injustice. So their actions to show their outrage is to break Canadian law and to inflict their own form of collective punishment on innocent Torontonians. Way to get your point across! You go, Tamils!
This “legal” act of “civil disobedience” has inspired me, so much so that I’m going to be setting up a Facebook page. And I want all of you to join too; your family and friends as well. So get the word.
We’re going to set up counter demonstrations against the Tamil community’s collective punishment against Torontonians. And as stated, I want thousands to join up and participate in this event (dates to be announced). We are going to march into various areas of the city (primarily Scarborough) where Tamil communities are located and form blockades in front of the entrances to their businesses, homes and the streets which they use to come and go each day. The Tamil community will understand and … of course … appreciate this tactic as a result the frustrations we incur each day. And they will accept this …. of course …. as a mere “minor inconvenience” and a “legitimate” way of protesting when (cough) others aren’t listening, whether their are your target audience or not.
As well, we can now be safe in the knowledge that Toronto’s police chief, Bill Blair, has sanctioned this type of protest and has stated unequivocally that under such circumstances he will not order his officers to intervene. Ditto for Mayor Miller.
I am serious about this, guys. Let’s do it! Let’s see how long it takes the spokespeople from the Tamil community to complain that these blockades we have created are wrong and a violation of their rights of mobility under the Charter is being violated. Ditto for Blair and Miller.
One last point of irony…
While not laying charges against anyone for blockading a freeway, or Children’s Aid stepping in, recommending police lay charges against those wheeling baby strollers onto a busy freeway, Toronto Police ordered a pilot for flying high above the protests in open airspace with a banner that read: “Protect Canada, Stop The Tamil Tigers”, simply because they didn’t like the message, even though no law was being broken.
Only in Canada.

EBD, I searched my blog for her name and was quickly reminded of who Susan G. Cole is. I’d blogged about her Happy Holidays crap before.
I distinctly remember her in a debate with Ezra Levant, where he cleaned her clock by the way, so I think that her little screed against him and against Free Speech in Canada was some convoluted attempt at revenge.
I agree with you re the superbly written and intelligent comments slamming her for the puny mind that she is. Whether it be the likes of her, the thugs on the HRCs, or the Tamil protesters who have declared that they shall decide which laws are appropriate to follow in Canada, the patience of most considerate, freedom loving, law-abiding Canadians has worn razor thin.
P.S. Jim, your heart is in the right place but if you are a white man then know very well that you *will* be arrested if you attempt that.
robert – thanks for the post by the ambassador to Sri Lanka.
jim – thanks for your astute comments on the Tamil.
Yes, they are whitewashing the facts; the fact that they started this generation long civil war, that they have carried out vicious human rights abuses, including women and children forced to act as suicide bombers, including assassinations and extortion.
And they are behaving in a similar manner with us here – they are telling us that UNLESS our Canadian government does as they wish, then, they will harass us, take over our streets and highways, force us to spend millions on extra police forces – and will do this until we do as they wish.
What do they want? They want our government to impose sanctions on Sri Lanka. Sorry, our government doesn’t operate by force. It doesn’t operate by any group harassing the citizens, taking these citizens hostage, until the govt carries out what the group wants.
Just imagine if our govt, instead of operating by attention to facts, debate and a vote, operated only in reaction to the pressure and extortion of various identity groups.
That Tamil are behaving here, as they behaved in Sri Lanka – using force to make a govt do what they want, harassing citizens to make a govt do what it wants.
Unacceptable.
EBD, I’m reading more & more of the comments toward Susan Cole. Absolutely delicious! Perhaps Kate will promote this story to its own posting.
ET, I’ve listened to dozens of Tamil callers to CFRB and to Adler’s show. They simply have NO CLUE about what they’re doing in TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA is absolutely wrong!!! And goodness knows, if this nonsense continues: 1) Someone’s going to get killed. 2) It’s going to set a terrible precedent for other groups.
Found this slightly dated but still usable gem from James Lovelock (Gaia Hypothesis) in an unlikely place.
Have to enjoy the eco-ads, given Lovelock’s comments…
“He dismisses eco ideas briskly, one by one. “Carbon offsetting? I wouldn’t dream of it. It’s just a joke. To pay money to plant trees, to think you’re offsetting the carbon? You’re probably making matters worse. You’re far better off giving to the charity Cool Earth, which gives the money to the native peoples to not take down their forests.”
Do he and his wife try to limit the number of flights they take? “No we don’t. Because we can’t.” And recycling, he adds, is “almost certainly a waste of time and energy”, while having a “green lifestyle” amounts to little more than “ostentatious grand gestures”. He distrusts the notion of ethical consumption. “Because always, in the end, it turns out to be a scam … or if it wasn’t one in the beginning, it becomes one.”
… He saves his thunder for what he considers the emptiest false promise of all – renewable energy.
“You’re never going to get enough energy from wind to run a society such as ours,” he says. “Windmills! Oh no. No way of doing it. You can cover the whole country with the blasted things, millions of them. Waste of time.”
This is all delivered with an air of benign wonder at the intractable stupidity of people. “I see it with everybody. People just want to go on doing what they’re doing. They want business as usual. They say, ‘Oh yes, there’s going to be a problem up ahead,’ but they don’t want to change anything.”

‘90% Of The Last Million Years, The Normal State Of The Earth’s Climate Has Been An Ice Age’
[For ninety percent of the last million years, the normal state of the Earth’s climate has been an ice age. Ice ages last about 100,000 years, and are punctuated by short periods of warm climate, or interglacials. The last ice age started about 114,000 years ago. It began instantaneously. For a hundred-thousand years, temperatures fell and sheets of ice a mile thick grew to envelop much of North America, Europe and Asia. The ice age ended nearly as abruptly as it began. Between about 12,000 and 10,000 years ago, the temperature in Greenland rose more than 50 °F.] WUWT
Don’t know about you, but I think life under a mile of ice might cramp our style. We should do all we can to prevent an ice age. That’s easy. The opposite of fighting global warming 🙂

I believe someone posted earlier about the EPA’s CO2 fiasco. Here is Rush on the matter;
RUSH: The EPA put out a memo. It’s an Obama administration memo. This memo admits that CO2 is not a pollutant. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. This memo alludes to the fact that there is no proof. Somebody in the Obama administration really goofed up.
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_051309/content/01125113.guest.html
On page two, quote, “There is concern that the EPA is making a finding based on harm from substances that have no demonstrated, direct health effects such as respiratory or toxic effects. Making the decision to regulate carbon dioxide under the Clean Air Act for the first time is likely to have serious economic consequences for regulated entities throughout the economy, small business, small communities.”

“A Sikh Response on Ruby Dhalla?
Posted by Jodha”
http://thelangarhall.com/archives/3182
Excerpt:
“So this is how the situation appears to a Sikh-American’s eyes, filtered by the Canadian press.
Perhaps much more interesting would be perspectives by Sikh-Canadians, especially those in Brampton that could comment on the case, but more particularly about Ruby Dhalla as their representative.”
“3 Responses to “A Sikh Response on Ruby Dhalla?””
“Toronto Sikh
hello,
I came across your website, its great, I’ll make a point to visit regularly 🙂
I am a young, sikh woman who lives right next to Dhalla’s riding in Brampton. I have followed her career and her latest controversy closely.
What I see here in Ruby’s case is an example of tokenism in politics. Ruby is often praised because of her tokenism, “here is a south asian women who is articulate” is what I read in some paper the other day. Its sad how the anglo-community often views ethnic minorities and is simply impressed when one of us can talk and converse with some degree of intelligence. Just because she is south asian doesn’t mean she is benefitting sikhs by being an MP.
I would be totally behind Ruby, if there was substance beind the woman, but sadly I don’t think there is. I have looked into her past considerably because she is seen as representing me, so I have taken the time to see if she is worthy of that representation.
I can still recall that she was parachuted into her riding by then Prime Minister Paul Martin in 2004. She didn’t even have to run for nomination. Was she deserving of that special treament? I don’t think so – her resume is far from amazing and there was a perfectly good liberal nominee who the riding members wanted to run. I think that is an example of how PM Martin was just looking for a minority woman to parade around as an example of the liberal party’s multicultural appeal.
That really bothers me because I think sikh politicians, if we want to be seen as equals, should not be given or accept special treatment.
Furthermore, I have been following her career as an MP, and it seems to me its all about self promotion, trying to get ahead, not for her ideas or her vision for Canada but HER.
She went to India last january on a trip that essentially became a self-promotion tour across India on taxpayers dollars. I read about it in the Indo-canadian papers, and I just found it appaling. Before politics she was pursuing a bollywood career, and I just can’t take someone seriously whose ambition before politics was to dance around in indian films. How is that contributing to society or bettering the lives of others? I want sikh politicians to have a strong record of their past accomplishments when they are elected so that we aren’t viewed as ‘mere tokens’ BUT actually on equal footing with those that lead our country.
Also, I constantly see ways in which Ruby tries to capitalize on her looks as an MP. she allowed the liberals to auction a ‘lunch date’ with her for raising funds, she allowed chatelaine to do a feature on her sense of style, where she poses in dresses, and she regularly goes to awards shows/movie premiers posing for the cameras. This is not common practice for MPs in Canada. I mean, that too me is seen as someone straddling the world of politics and celebrity and I just can’t respect someone who does that. Because politics is very different that wanting to be a celebrity. It seems to me that Ruby wants to be famous and that is what is driving her, not a real ability or intelligence to make a real difference in Canadian politics.
I completely understand that she is trying to capitalize on her looks but I think it comes at the expense of the very sikhs she supposedly represents b/c she has become a joke – Canada’s version of Sarah Palin if you will – all flash, no substance.
Unfortunately, I think Dhalla’s attitude will only set back the plight of women and sikhs in Cdn politics. I’m still waiting for Canada’s version of Hilary Clinton, Madeline Albright, Benazir Bhutto – and i know Ruby isn’t it.”
…-
“Field Sikh says:
Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 7:37 pm
I agree withe the above sentiments, however I don’t want to see another Hillary Clinton, Madeline Albright or Benazir Bhutto. These are classic examples of women who have a gender neutral role, and by that I mean, they have done very little forward women issues and rights in their respected sovereigns. Hillary Clinton is a horrible example of a women who has pressed forward some of the most atrocious pro-war policies we’ve seen in the last few decades.
I have always wondered if some of our Sikh politicians respected their Sikh teachings and have used them as a recourse to their decision making processes. I wonder if Ruby understands what the Dharam Yudh is when she fumbles the lives of millions in Afghanistan, Iraq and those subject to the war on terror.
I am completely flabbergasted that women such as Ruby Dhalla have come to represent Sikhism and supported these wars and as of a consequence supported the governmental policies and moreover, social and cultural values that permit misogyny in Afghanistan. Though an ardent supporter of myopic human rights issues, She has turned a blind eye to the massive failure of social and economic reconstruction of Afghanistan, the gender apartheid suffered by women, and invariably the basic rights of women to live freely, equally and equitably in afghan society. Ratifying The Convention for the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is absolutely imperative and little has been discussed of these matters in public forum. As a women who has launched her career as staunchly and energetically as she has, I find it bewildering that she was elevated in our Sikh community as an influential figure with little or not criticism. Puzzled, I’m left to wonder if she has heard of the Dharam Yudh or of those that ardently support her have as well. They have become to infatuated with her novelties to care.”

The highlight of the convention was the closing party. Thanks to Vancouver MP Hedy Fry and her B.C. team, the biggest cheers of the weekend, not including those aided by noise-making blow-up thunder sticks, went to an outrageous and hilarious lineup of talent in a big tent set up in Stanley Park. Fry sang a duet with local drag queen legend Bill Monroe, who proudly showed off his “Tina Turner” legs. Drag queen Carlotta Gurl did a number as Wonder Woman and tied up MP Rob Oliphant’s aide with a golden lasso. The show also included saucy burlesque performers who stripped down to their pasties, and the folk-rock band Spirit of the West. Fry said this is the first time drag queens have performed at a Liberal convention. Noted Carlotta Gurl, “It could be the first of many performances or never again.””

“Letter of Amends from a Recovering Liberal in Berkeley.”
Excerpt(s):
‘You may be wondering how I did a 180 in 1 1/2 years…
“In February of 2008, I saw a new client, a bright and sensitive young woman who came in looking like she just escaped a war zone. In some ways she had; she had innocently shared with others at her job that she voted for Hillary rather than Obama. Immediately she was being targeted for abuse that put her in fear for not only her job, but her life.
“We both suddenly became aware that something had grown really dark in the Democratic Party. I started hearing about many other incidents where loyal Democrats were being physically and emotionally threatened for supporting Hillary. A woman in Berkeley had her front window broken because it displayed a poster of Hillary. Randi Rhodes, an Air America talk show leftist, called Hillary a f______ witch. (Rhodes was recently promoted to a national talk radio show, illustrating another disturbing trend: the deafening silence about what Rush Limbaugh has dubbed the new “thug-ocracy.”)
(…)
“Things went from bad to worse when Sarah Palin entered the scene. When Geraldine Ferraro ran for Vice President, there was no debasement of her character, no sexual threats. But with Palin, a full scale “wilding” ensued that chillingly reminded me of the random sexual attacks on women by gangs of men in New York. She was called every vile name in the book by both male and female liberals.
“Actress Sarah Bernhardt hoped a gang of black males would rape her. When Palin’s church was torched with children inside, the press was missing in action (somehow I imagine the press would have been all over this if Obama’s church were torched). Not only was the misogyny disgusting, but the classism was abhorrent. The Democrats, by ridiculing Palin’s voice and her education, were acting like arrogant snobs. The party had changed, I had changed, and the differences looked irreconcilable.
“The final straw for me was when a close friend flew into a rage at me when she learned I wasn’t supporting Obama. The political became personal when she began impugning my character. Worse yet, she tried to intimidate me into changing my mind by threatening to dump me.”

“Leftwing Blogosphere Erupts in Anger Over Obama Reversal on ‘Torture’ Photos Release
It was a sight to behold. President Barack Obama reverses himself on his promise to release interrogation (now redefined as “torture”) photos and the entire leftwing blogosphere erupts in an explosion of anger. It was so bad that Cenk Uygur, the leftwing host of The Young Turks radio show, claimed that Obama was cowed into caving in to Dick Cheney as you can see in his Daily Kos post:
This is an unbelievable moment. Dick Cheney’s PR offensive over the last month actually worked. Barack Obama just crumbled and will follow Cheney’s command to not release the new set of detainee abuse pictures.
…And to add insult to injury, we have to reconcile ourselves to the fact that Dick Cheney still runs DC no matter how unpopular and despicable he is. He still has the Democrats eating out of his hand. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
The disgust of Uygur with Obama was matched by that of the Kossacks as you can see in the comments section below his post. They run the gamut from mad to sad with many being inadvertently hilarious:
A hollow shell of a presidency. a stab in the back for progressive ideas and ideals.
Complicit, spineless Democratic leaders will have no more ratching up the rhetoric on torture, leaving the task of bringing the US to justice to others, like the World Court and Spain.
It’s just gonna make Obama look weak, stupid, and totally in cahoots with the WAR CRIMINALS who committed and who authorized such dreadful things.
These are war crimes and Obama is participating in them by enabling them to be covered up.
The Kossack outrage with Obama also inspired this all-caps outburst of frustration:

This is an interesting essay on
millinia old medicine. Was any of it effective?
NEW LOOK AT ANCIENT CURES
Rather than depending on the newest pharmaceutical drugs, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have been getting historical in their hunt for superior medicine. They are using chemical tests to rediscover the herbs used medicinally in ancient Egypt. By studying the residue of ingredients added to wine in ancient clay jars, these researchers hope to unlock some of the medical understanding held by physicians thousands of years ago.
The Egyptians loved to write things down, and the ingredients to sought-after remedies were recorded in hieroglyphics. Unfortunately, modern Egyptologists have struggled to translate some of the specific ingredients included in these remedies. Residue from a 5,000 year old jar showed that Egyptians made use of coriander, senna, germander, balm, and savory, among other herbs. A 1,500-year-old jar included compounds that researchers believe included rosemary.

The streets where they protested, the area in front of the Ontario Legislature – are all empty of Tamil. Not a person, not a flag, nothing.
On the MSM – not a word. It’s as if the whole week of relentless protests, illegal occupation of our streets and highways – had never happened.
And, as I said, not a word about them in the MSM.
