Y2Kyoto: Tie Me Polar Bear Down, Sport

This is getting to be way too easy….

A new Australian record was set early this morning, a temperature of minus 13 degrees, at Charlotte Pass on the Snowy Mountains.
This is the lowest temperature recorded anywhere in Australia in April and is 13 below the average. Nearby at Perisher it dipped to minus 11 degrees and at the top of Thredbo it dipped to minus 10.
Across the border, on the Victorian Alps April records were broken at Mt Hotham where it chilled to minus eight degrees and Mt Buller and Falls Creek where it got as low as minus seven.

Throw a shrimp on the ski lift!

Australia’s Mt. Buller is opening its ski resort to the public five weeks ahead of schedule this Saturday and Sunday, for skiing and snowboarding on the 35 cm (14 inches) of early snowfall blanketing the ski area.
“This is the earliest we’ve opened a lift and ski run in the history of Mt. Buller resort. The closest was 45 years ago when we opened on the 16th of May in 1964,” said Laurie Blampied, General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts. “It’s so exciting to have such early and extensive falls so we decided to seize the opportunity, open up early for a special weekend and share it with everyone.”

See? Earth Day really can make a difference!

  1. Ok !! Gore and Suzuki have won. They succeeded in making the earth colder.
Can we all get back to our lives now – without worry ? Can we tell the kids the truth now ? AIT was just a bad horror movie.

  2. Silly, Kate. Localized cold weather events are just…..localized cold weather events. Localized warm weather events are definitive proof of Man Made Global Warming ™.

  3. Could it be the idiot professor from the U of Calgary that Rutherford had on QR on Monday, maybe got his pixie dust into the upper atmosphere over Oz? The clown did no like anyone questioning his deep beliefs in Global Warming since he was planning to send evil sun reflectors int space to save mankind. Remember people, we are paying tuition for our children to be taught by such tards.

  4. The greenies had to postpone their Earth Day in Edmonton last Sunday. It was too cold. Many participants weren’t willing to put up with the cold weather for the second year in a row.

  5. I hope what they are getting there is not a hint of what we have to look forward to next fall. With this cold a$$ spring we are having we will probably end up with 5 or 6 days of summer this year. We are going to have to rush like hell to get a whole summer in.

  6. Temperatures have also been unusually cold in Antarctica this month. Of course it is always pretty cold there, but some regions have been running 10 to 20 degrees below their seasonal averages. As of the most recent obs, the Antarctic Peninsula (south of Tierra del Fuego) was showing the most anomalous cold, near -40 C which is about 20 degrees below average. This cold air seems to have spread into the southern third of Argentina where temperatures are barely above freezing, 10-12 C would be more normal, and the Falkland Islands which were reporting 4 C.
Since hemispheric glaciation can be both in phase and opposite phase, if we ignore “climate science” (which I do now) the prospects are intriguing. This could be part of a global cooling process, or it could be a signal of a southern hemisphere glacial era starting to crank up. We will have to keep an open mind, against all social indicators.

  7. Al gore was worth 2 million when he retired, from what I’m not sure. Now he is worth 100 million but gave all his global warming money to charity. I know that cuz he said so.

  8. Glad to see someone else getting to enjoy the fruits of our war on global warming. For a while there I was beginning to feel a little guilty about having it all to ourselves. Coldest spring I can remember.

  9. So things are getting colder eh? I was looking forward to growing a palm tree on my front lawn in Toronto.
Damn you Gore, Damn you Suzuki.

  10. So if temps drop does that mean the ocean levels will fall? Should we all start flushing our toilets more often?

  11. Gore and Suzuki should both be happy now that the 3rd world will start dying en masse as agriculture production output will drop and prices will go up around the globe. Then, places like Africa will accelerate the destruction of it’s species and eco systems as hunger will drive them to pillage anything that can be eaten or burned.
But, let’s start spending massive sums on windmills and solar panels now…Right, Barry?
    Mankind’s stupidity shows no bounds.

  12. Terry that’s not true. Mankind has made it this far, inspite of the never ending parade of morons we afflict the species with.
I would rather think that mankind is remarkably agile, in accepting these manmade obstacles ( diesel David Suzuki and Mr. “Whore’ the Gore) and still makinng profress.
One good rogue nation and the world will jump along nicely.

  13. Dopey Dion was correct after all. The green economy is creating jobs…only not in Europe. GayandRight notes on his blog that Vestas, a major international wind turbine manufacturer, is closing its European operations and moving the production to China.
What a gain for the greenies! The E.U., which is spending the largest proportional amount on green technologies, is shipping its jobs to the world’s largest producer of emissions. Now I understand the green thinking…if a country has no industry and no employment, they will produce no emissions!

  14. and that should have been
    still making PROGRESS.
Not still making profess – although ‘profess’ does open some interesting plot lines.

  15. Germany won the emissions sweepstakes the year it added the east back into the fold.. Now everyone can play, without having to integrate 40 million people !!
The EU does all the most smartest things, all the time. Just ask them in Paris!

  16. Once the real facts on this gloBULL warming comes out are Gore &Suzuki going to court for fraud, and repay all their ill gotten gains???

“Zogby poll: only 30% of Americans support cap and trade
    30 04 2009
The Zogby poll results mirrors the recent Gallup poll It’s the economy, stupid. Even so, with opinion on Cap and trade in the minority it seems plans are in place to move forward.
On Earth Day, Secretary Chu warmly embraced the administration’s cap-and-trade proposal, stating, “We must state in no uncertain terms we have a responsibility to our children to curb emissions from fossil fuels…”
    Q. President Obama wants to impose cap-and-trade laws that would limit the total carbon dioxide emissions allowed to be released into the environment. These laws would turn carbon dioxide into a commodity allowing those that pollute less to sell credits to those that pollute more. These credits would be traded on commodities markets. According to congressional testimony given by the Director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, “decreasing emissions would also impose costs on the economy – much of those costs will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices for energy and energy intensive goods.” Some have estimated these costs to be $800 to $1300 more per household by 2015. Knowing this, do you support or oppose cap-and-trade laws?”

    First comment has this BDS:
“Far be it from me to post anything positive about former President Bush, A man whom I consider to be a war criminal, but, The ACTIONS tell us a LOT more about them than their words.
Gore is a lying hypocrite who shows us, by his own actions, that climate change is NOT an impending disaster and he KNOWS IT!”

  18. As reported here, the first earth day was posponed by it’s organizers because it conflicted with their planned celebration of Lenin’s 100th birthday.
    Nuff said.

  19. GoreacleWarmites have changed their lexicon: the new phrase is:
    “atmospheric warming”.
“There is little doubt that these changes are the result of atmospheric warming,” said David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey.”

We need to do whatever we can for the polar bears; except build more nuclear plants as an alternate source of clean energy. As bad as a worldwide disaster will be, it won’t be nearly as bad as storing spent nuclear fuel.

  21. I thought an Australian woman I work with would find this article interesting so I asked her if she’d like me to forward the article. She responded with the following: Yes please, send it through, let’s see what climate change is up to this week….
I had to think carefully how to respond, this is what I came up with: Scientifically speaking I disagree with your diagnosis; but, this isn’t really a scientific debate, it’s a political debate which I suspect is an inappropriate discussion to have at work.JMO

  22. We need to do whatever we can for the polar bears
    Why Homer?
The majority of Polar Bears reside in Canada.
The Inuit who live there are screaming that the latest media misinformation concerning their imminent demise, is bunko.
    They are thriving.
All leftoids must refer to the WWF for actual population counts, as they would know.
    Regarding the spent fuel.
Looking forward to leaving billions of lead batteries as a memento of our algorean fascination with solar and wind are we?

  23. I say we harness polar bears as a new source of energy. Literally. I bet half a dozen polar bears on a treadmill beats one of those bird mincers for electrical production, easy.

  24. This turn of events requires the immediate attention of hordes of Sustainable Diversity Analysts; save the snow from corporate greed. Send money.

  25. yet most of the western governments are committed or at least pay lip service to this scam; there really is no hope, communism is on the way
