From the mouths of babes…
Accused terrorist Omar Khadr identified Maher Arar as someone he recognized from an al-Qaida-run “safe” house in Afghanistan, an FBI agent testified in a Guantanamo Bay military commission Monday.
Robert Fuller, who interrogated the Canadian-born terror suspect in October 2002, said Khadr made the identification from a black-and-white photo of Arar provided by FBI in Massachusetts – a state where Arar, now an Ottawa resident, once lived.
“He identified him by name,” Mr. Fuller testified. “He said he had never seen him in Canada.””

you don’t say? imagine that.
Arar should give the $10 million back to Canadian taxpayers! A travesty!!
The caving in of our government to the MSM and leftist hype in the Arar was indeed disgraceful. My Conservative MP answered my complaint by stating that the government had agreed to pay this amount, since they knew that the courts would have awarded Arar even more. It did not wash then and still does not. We all got screwed by Arar and associates without a kiss. Shame on us.
First link seems to be dead.
Oh gosh. So what do you think the chances are that the RCMP didn’t know about this conversation in Oct 2002? What are the chances that they forgot to mention it to anyone?
Any bets on the chance that we are going to get our $10.5 million back?
Yeah…me neither…
Funny thing, send a terrorist to a terrorist state, Syria, and the terrorist tells tales of torture and imprisonment. How pathetic.
MSJ…..Bwahahahahahahahha….are you really that stupid to even suggest that? The money has all ready gone to finance Mommy and her terrorist group here, and the Palis. And you can bet he kept enough to finance his new home in Brazil,or the Caymans,or Saudi.Feel like a sucker taxpayer now?
Oh gosh. So what do you think the chances are that the RCMP didn’t know about this conversation in Oct 2002? What are the chances that they forgot to mention it to anyone?
Better question; “What are the chance the RCMP couldn’t tell anyone?”
Ignore even the slightest hint that your first instincts might have been right all along.
CTV just explained the confusion.
Graham Richardson asked the french reporter about Arar being named by Khadar and his answer was that it was rather timely to be coming out just before the inauguration and was no doubt a message to Obama about the ability to get information out of the terrorists stored at Guantanamo Bay so he should keep it open.
Richardson then asked Rosemary Thompson about the news release and she said outright that they might have extracted that information out of Khadar while he was being tortured to the point where he would do or say whatever they wanted.
Graham nodded knowingly and cut to a commercial.
How can they do stuff like this?
Why doesn’t the PMO have just one staffer who can watch for such blatant disregard for facts. These journalists should be ashamed of themselves and they are seriously deluded if they honestly believe what they are saying.
I personally think that they realize their own complicity in getting Arar a ten million dollar award and an apology from Canadian citizens via the Prime Minister.
Methinks Arar must be planning to leave town.
NeilD
I do not know but I would think a good deal of Arar’s $10,500,000 must now be in the coffers of some “Muslim Charity” that has connections to terrorism…
If you want more of your tax dollars financing people who want to destroy western civilization,
Vote Liberal!!!
The $10.5 million should be seized, including all of the assets that the scum accrued because of it.
If he can’t account for it all, the difference should be seized from the NDP, who ran his wife as a Federal candidate.
After that, deport their entire family to Syria. We’ve already been embarrassed enough. Let the terrorist, his family, friends and their co-conspirators, the NDP rot. In Allah’s paradise.
As I recall saying a couple of years ago, it seems pretty curious that the Canadian taxpayer is stuck with the bill when it was the US government that deported Arar back to Syria.
What the f**k is wrong with the lawyers Canada hires?
Would it not have been possible to withold the money until Arar to sue the US?
What a bunch of suckers!
Yes the Arar $$$10,500,000 story is an ugly mess, but don’t forget there is more,
Kahdr’s father when he was stuck in some terrorist country where he got wounded while fighting as a terrorist had his wife go to Jean Chretien,
and she then managed to convince Jean Chretien to pull some string and get her husband back in Canada so he could receive decent medical treatment.
You and I Canadians We ALL paid for that crap and on top of this the whole Kahdr family was on welfare.
In other words, liberalism financing terrorists and providing them health care so that they can go back to killing more infidels.
Ain’t liberalism great?
Canada will turn away Bill Ayers but let Arar in.
I’d love to say what I’m thinking right now, but I don’t want to get anyone into trouble. There’s a very real possibility that I might start a fire from the heat coming off my head right now.
A campaign should be started to get Maher Arar to give back the $10,500,000 and then deport his terrorist ass permanently out of this country.
Hannibal the Canadians did well to turn away the terrorist Ayers. Maybe they learned from the Arar experience?
sorry teach….but i have to tell you about the 50,000(yes teach…50,000), need i tell you muslim/canadians in Lebanon you and i and every other tax paying fool liberated from the clutches of International Jewry’s SS squads of Zionist disproportionate aggressors ?
THAT bill was a wee bit bigger than this lousy 10 million canadian dollars….which incidentally would buy at least 10 MRI machines to determine whether or not our ruling elites and the bureaucracies they direct have brain tumors….
Yes sir, become a Muslim terrorist living in Canada and you too can receive a $10 million reward for your brand of hatred towards the west.
It’s good to know that Canadians have a millionaire terrorist by their own making within their midst. With that kind of reward I wonder why every Muslim and then some are not lining up to go to Afghanistan for some R&R and training. Marching in the streets of Toronto only pays small dividends, compared to the BIG payoff.
Canada eats itself.
Did Khdar’s brother ever get a passport renewed so he could go to the USA.
Next time some one wants help to get back to Canada, mention the Arar scam. Many of us thought he was scamming from the beginning. How much did his lawyers get. I also remember Chretain getting the dad out of jail. I compare it to Bill Clinton refusing to get OBL when he had the chance.
And now we hear that poor Brenda wants to go back to Mexico.

“Hannibal the Canadians did well to turn away the terrorist Ayers. Maybe they learned from the Arar experience?”
I doubt it. Ayers is not on the “protected species” list of minority terrorists within Canada. It’s his own fault really, he’s been fighting for minority rights in the US for decades. Now they have more rights to hate & kill than he does. Oh well.
By ‘identified by name’ does that mean Khadr was able to come up with the name when shown the photo?
If so, that strikes me as pretty significant.
I shot this off to CBC.ca a while ago. The preponderance of comments there are what you would expect…from Bin Laden
Arar and his buddies must be absolutely apoplectic laughing at the suckers us Canadians are.
Not only do our pampered sensibilities demand we chastise the Americans for treating him like a terrorist, we further the foolishness by
enriching him by over 10 million dollars.
Now the proof comes out, and the same apologists for Arar now apologize for Khadr.
These apologists whimper that he was just a child of 15 throwing a grenade at American soldiers.
Alexander the Great was quelling rebellions at 16.
If these apologists don’t see any reason for reflection on their misguided loyalties, then they should reflect on their citizenship.
All they had to do was ask Arar to drop his shirt and prove the lashings. There is no mention that this was done and we unwittingly financed terrorism to the tune of $10,000,000 without question. I knew we were getting shafted by the left but didn’t think that little al-quaida junior would be the one to out Arar.
Ayers is not a terrorist “within” Canada but is a terrorist nonetheless. Him and his cohorts have the president-elects ear, they preach from the same bible. Community organizing writ really big. They’re goin’ global, I’m sure Alinsky would be proud
The trial is pointless the new DC messiah will take the Khadrs into the White House as uh …he’ll take ’em in I tell ya…gotta be room in the unicorn menagerie.
Did the RCMP know Mr.Arar was a terrorist supporter, suspect?YES!
A RCMP officer was on national news saying so just after Mr. Arar was granted money for his suffering.
This is a international scandal.
I bet that pained the lefties that run the Globe and Mail to write that.
Having to report the truth on Arar – I can hear them crying now.
It’s nice to know that all the taxes collected by every Canadian poster on this thread for 2008 went into this dickheads pocket!
How do you feel about the value of your labors last year?
Maybe if we all work really hard this year for a little extra income we can send it directly to Osama himself?
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kadar family is already picking out prime Toronto real-estate for their next McMansion Saudi style. After all little Kadar is the proverbial goose that laid the golden egg. In this case it’s the hand grenade that killed an American solder, but why split hairs with semantics………….
Keep working Canada, it all goes to a good cause in the end, no?
slightly OT
Hypothetical situation:
al-qaeda conducts a terrorist attack somewhere in the USA on Inauguration Day.
Does the MSM headline say:
al-qaeda gives Bush a Farewell Gift
or
al-qaeda Sends Obama a Welcome Note
Give me a break.
Friend of USA,
“If you want more of your tax dollars financing people who want to destroy western civilization,
Vote Liberal!!!”
Mr Harper sent Mr. Arar a letter apologizing for the treatment meted out to him. A Conservative government handed over the money. I doubt they simply handed over the money without looking into the investigations.
All I see here is an American official who has messed up big time, attempting to paper over his mistakes by offering a justification for his error. God knows American officials don’t make errors. Oh wait, 9/11.
The way I see it, its very simple. The Canadian government looked into the case, knew exactly what had happened, and decided that Arar had been wronged. I don’t care how many American officials line up and tell me the Canadians were wrong, I will always believe a Canadian first. To top it off, it is a pro- American conservative government that has admitted wrongdoing in this case.
I trust my elected representatives a hell of a lot more than I trust some bungling American official whose ineptitude cost Canadian taxpayers.
The irony of all of this is that I am taking a very ‘American’ stance on the matter – I will always trust my countrymen first. If you cannot, please immigrate and join the ranks of countrymen you can trust. I am Canadian. I trust that the Harper government did not hand over money without assessing the case carefully. No American can convince me otherwise.
Didn’t the 10 million go to funding Arar’s wife’s campaign to become and MP for the NDP? That’s why Layton always has such a smile on his face.
Yes, because you can always believe testimony given under duress after torture. It never ceases to amaze me the level of ignorance displayed by the commenters to this blog.
” … the RCMP conveyed false and misleading information to the United States government, which “likely contributed” to the U.S. deportation of Maher Arar to Syria, including falsely characterizing Maher Arar as an “Islamist extremist associated with the terrorist al-Qaeda movement.”

I have been unable to determine whether a qualified physician was able to give Arar a careful physical. This could have included all the science in that occupation to ascertain his physical condition.
After spending ten months in a 10x8x6 feet cell, damp and nasty and being “beaten repeatedly”, he had a few weeks in a lesser environment.
One week in Canada he looked a pretty sharp cookie. He should have been in a wheel chair, else assisted in walking.
We got took.
And all the time Canadians are waiting for the terrorists to attack us with bombings and killings the terrorists hit us right were we didnt even see it coming!Right in our pocket books.
Canadians were attacked by Arar stole our money and now is probably laughing his head off because no one new this was how the terrorists would hit us.
Anyone else feel like a victim.
Something doesn’t add up about this story. Why wouldn’t this information have come out earlier, since the interrogation was in 2002? Seems like the type of info that the FBI would have shared with Canada. Nothing about it strikes me as particularly sensitive. Why is this only coming to light now?
nothing that a wire whooping and a pigs blood enema wouldnt solve in about 10 minutes.
Arar’s are the second family of Canadian Terrorism whilst Khadrs are number one.
CBCpravda All Khadr All the time
CBCpravda completely fukked all the time.
TBA, you’re a liar, Khadr was never ‘tortured’. Never. That is a huge lie and you are despicable for making it.
and Arar wasnt tortured either.
nothing more than he would have paid for in Amsterdam.
these two are slime .
and the reason the USA won’t allow Arar in?
Trolls
maybe one of you bright lights can answer me this
being syrian, and getting sent to syria be a nation (USA) that does not get along with syria, why would they (syria) torture arar?????
think about that you fools
“It never ceases to amaze me the level of ignorance displayed by the commenters to this blog.”
Yeah your ignorance amazes me too.
If this is true, then what the hell is wrong with us? Why are we so gullible?
And I never want to hear from Omar Khadr or his free-loading family again.
Wel, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Anybody know the URL for the ‘I Wanna Be A Muslim’ site so I can download the application form?
After that it’ll only be a couple of clicks over to the MuslimExpress site where I can get me an Al-Qeada Corp Card. “Don’t leave Afghanistan without it!!”
$1o mill – here I come….
GYM
“maybe one of you bright lights can answer me this”
Gladly.
“being syrian, and getting sent to syria be a nation (USA) that does not get along with syria, why would they (syria) torture arar?????”
Syria is ruled by a Ba’athist regime that is secular (like its former Iraqi counterpart headed by Saddam). They are avowedly anti-Islamic extremism. One of the biggest challenges to the Ba’athist regime came from the Muslim brotherhood, which led an uprising in Hamah in the 1980s. Islamic extremists are very anti-Syrian Ba’athists.
The Americans deported Arar on the basis that he was an Islamic extremist. That makes him an automatic threat to the Syrian Ba’athist regime, which is one of the most paranoid regimes in the world. This is a regime that literally levelled entire towns and villages in the 1980s when the Islamic extremists tried to challenge them. Torture is not simply a method for this regime, it is a way of life.
“think about that you fools”
I think you ought to practice what you preach. Firing off pointless rhetoric is one thing, knowing what the hell you are talking about is quite another. There are two things you should not do when you don’t know anything about the subject at hand:
a) Engage in a debate about it.
b) Try to sound authoritative about it, while using a condescending tone.
The only one who comes out looking foolish after that post is you, GYM. It is pretty obvious you know nothing at all about Syria or how it operates.
My first thought was that we shouldn’t necessarily believe the testimony of Omar Khadr.
But then I read the words “He identified him by name.”
Maybe it was a lucky guess.
We have to stop with these commissions. They are not courts of law. They are kangaroo courts where evidence is squashed in favour of the politically correct agenda.
Well Mr. hot shot “the roll”, since you seem to think you know so much, why didn’t the Canadian government send a stronger message to Syria given that they supposedly tortured a Canadian?
If the Syrians were the ones who tortured him, and you seem quite certain that they did, where is the roaring outrage against Syria? I have not heard much on that front.
Ah, but wait, you see, the fact that they supposedly tortured him doesn’t matter one bit in the big picture does it?
It’s not the Syrians who are guilty of anything is it, sweet little fellows that they are.
As you may recall, when Arar first jumped on the let’s-sue-the-government bandwagon, he was asking for, what was it, $400 million plus or minus a few?
Live in your imaginary world if you so wish, but others are not so easily fooled.
