My post a day or so ago.
The main stream media has become, in my view, the main accomplis in the mistrust the general public has in the science, legal and political worlds of today. By taking sides they have allowed these people of their ilk and ideology a free ride to mislead the public knowing that they will not be called out to substantiate their findings rulings or claims.
The media is now like a mass murder taunting the police to catch him. With their biased strangulation of fact, omission and the innuendo laden ridicule of those that would disagree they have replaced trust with scepticism and honor in a profession with dishonor. I don’t blame the shady politician for his antics and lies as much as I blame the media for failing to give me a balanced assessment of the facts on which I can draw my own conclusions. Today’s MSM has killed the trust in themselves and the ethics of journalism.
I used to enjoy sitting down at the end of the day to watch the news and catch up on what had happened. Now when I watch the news, maybe twice a month, I don’t go away thinking that’s what happened, I go away wondering IF that’s what happened.

Decades ago, some might argue around the Vietnam era, the media abandoned objective, fact-based reporting and pursued subjective, politically-biased op-ed and influence-peddling, all the while trying to convince the public that they were still objective, or, even more egregiously, were acting in the best interest of the public.
People now realize the major media for what they are: a pack of moralizing neo-liberals given to group think, obfuscation and the toeing of the neo-liberal political line.
The only thing people trust about the media is that what they’re getting is editorialized half-fact.
The blanket coverage in the media of pro-anthropogenic GW theory is just the latest incarnation of the neo-liberal bias in the media.
It stinks. People hate it. They are no longer paying for it.
Still amazed by how many articles and documentaries on Discovery Channel, Nature or National Geographic and “science” magazines still talk about this and that caused by global warming.. oops climate change.
Having worked in computers all my business life always laughed when people would believe almost anything that appeared on a computer prepared document. The old saying still applies “Garbage in, garbage out”. When you see financial computer modelling that doesn’t contain negative housing costs (because we didn’t think house prices would ever drop!)or climate models that don’t include solar activity expect crappy or biased results.
Totally agree this type of reporting puts science in a really bad light and causes immediate mistrust. The triggers to warn us are always there i.e. the science is settled or the consensus says.
Always remember the Challenger exploded because of political interference as the science and engineering warned of possible cold weather O ring failure but was overruled and cost those astronauts their lives. Same political agenda on global warming. When the weather guys couldn’t predict snow in Houston last night but we are to believe there is an accurate forcast for 30 years from now, yeah right.

EPA officials said the Web site is designed to enlist the public and other law enforcement agencies in locating people accused of violating environmental laws and evading arrest.
“Putting this information on the EPA’s Web site will increase the number of ‘eyes’ looking for environmental fugitives,” said Granta Nakayama, assistant administrator of the EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. “Two EPA fugitives were captured this year, and this Web site could help us find more fugitives in the future.”
The Web site includes photographs of accused people, summaries of their alleged environmental violations and information on each fugitive’s last known whereabouts. Alleged violations include smuggling of ozone-depleting substances, illegally disposing of hazardous waste and making criminally false statements.
While the FBI, Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms also maintain Web sites featuring fugitives from the law, the EPA said it is the first federal law enforcement agency to feature an environmental crimes fugitive web site.”

The damage done to credible science by the MSM is going to be enormous. At the risk of sounding a bit paranoid, there’s a part of me that wonders if that isn’t deliberate. After all, if you yourself are hopelessly incompetent at reporting the facts and have no intention or incentive to improve, then the best way to eliminate your competition is to misrepresent them with an aim to discredit them. Credible scientists have been calling “BS” on this AGW nonsense for years but have been ignored or shouted down. Now, as the weight of the scientific community comes down solidly behind the skeptics in the interests of, well, science, the MSM will have to at some point start acknowledging this, but only as a last resort. The spin will then begin in earnest with an attempt to smear “science” as unreliable, rather than admitting that they, the MSM, are hopelessly inept.

It’s worse than you know. I spent two days at a US think tank earlier this week, and let me tell you, they’re swilling the kool-ade so fast I’m surprised they haven’t run out. These people admit no alternative points of view, don’t want to hear the words “observed data”, aren’t interested in solar activity, think a “cycle” is something with wheels, and give “academic” presentations that are so devoid of facts and so blatantly propagandistic that Algore could take lessons from them. They make Suzuki look like a moderate. And these are the guys that Obama listens to.
The worst part, though, was the news that “carbon credit” companies are doing a brisk business selling “carbon futures”. That’s right – industries that produce actual products are (on a voluntary basis so far in the States, but compulsorily in Europe) are paying actual money to buy “carbon credits” several years down the road. If that sounds like an onrushing economic bubble to you, you’re right – it’s no different from the dot-coms, the real-estate collapse of the 1980s, the South Sea bubble, or the Dutch tulip frenzy. People are paying more for something than it is worth, in expectation of prices rising. Except these prices aren’t going to rise; and at least when you buy real estate (or tulip bulbs), you still have something concrete in your hand when the market collapses.
What happens when AGW theory thunders in, as it surely will over the next 2-3 years, and the price of “carbon credits” collapses to where it actually should be, i.e. ZERO? That’s right – all of the capital spent on carbon credits volatilizes. Vanishes. Poof, gone. The companies that bought “carbon futures” will have turned their stockholders’ capital into the hot air they thought they were buying (and their own obscene fees, bonuses, etc). All of that money will disappear overnight.
Now think about this: the only countries indulging in this masochistic auto-da-fe are the US, Europe, and (if Iggy and his lib-commie Coalition of the Deluded get their way) Canada. China isn’t. Russia isn’t. India isn’t. Korea isn’t. What happens to the relative strength of Western economies when we pile up billions of dollars in a great big heap and burn them, and our competitors don’t?
Yup. Another economic crash. This one brought to you by the same left-wing ideologues who gave us the DDT ban and 60 million dead humans, and whose anti-nuclear activism is the proximate cause of the hundreds of coal-fired generating stations that are responsible for producing 56% of the grid electricity consumed in the US. Causality and consequence are not part of the liberal lexicon.
The worst part of this is that we can see it coming. It’s like watching a train bear down on us. And no one will ever – EVER – be held accountable for having pushed policies designed to bankrupt the Western countries and destroy their economies.
So if you like owning a home, driving a car, or eating, you know, FOOD, I strongly suggest you do everything you can to oppose ANYONE who suggests that Canada get into one of these psychotic “carbon credit” schemes. They are nothing less than an economic suicide pact. It’s not in our national interest to allow our political leaders to duct-tape us to the rest of the lemmings.

Many people active in climate and weather are skeptics, it’s mostly the top-level powerful elites who back the “science” which is certainly debatable if not an outright fraud.
And many of those same people would tell you that air temperatures may have peaked as far back as 1998-99, with a slight decline since then. As to arctic ice melting patterns, those have lagged behind as might be expected, and 2007 was the largest observed melt in recent years. This year the ice is recovering quite well and could soon be reaching levels that were considered normal in the colder decades of the 1960s and 1970s.
I think it will take a while before we see any real defections from the main band of AGW proponents. Given the loss of face and other factors that would be involved, it is going to take some exceptionally obvious evidence of the theory’s failure to shake their faith in it.
By that point, most of the economic damage will already have been done. I think much of it has already happened, in fact. One of the contributing factors to the economic crisis is global warming hysteria. This is related to food supply dislocations, speculative pressure on oil prices in 2006-08, and through higher gasoline prices, pressure on the housing market.
Housing lost value when people couldn’t afford to commute. People defaulted on mortgages when they had to choose between driving to work or paying their mortgage.
Al Gore and company have largely succeeded in their political campaigns. They don’t need the science for much longer in any case. They can abandon it completely when their globalist political goals are fully met. The idea that Al Gore and rich Hollywood actors care about polar bears was a non-starter. They care about huge personal profits that they make from their much-publicized hand-wringing activity.
As to global warming, that will seem like a bad joke this weekend on the bald prairie.

I can speculate on her skepticism. Her career has been in meteorology, As a prominent weather-scientist, of specifically cloud behavior, she has been frustrated by the inability of climate scientists to incorporate her theories of cloud behaviour into their longer term & larger-scale models. She has contributed to the understanding of the trade winds, el Nino & hurricane development and, as any scientist, she is in love with her theories. So, just like Shaviv and his cosmic rays, she thinks that a climate science that doesn’t incorporate her work is incomplete and the conclusions possibly wrong. The possiblity of incorporating her work may be why NASA had kept her on so long – [she is 85]
