Tony Blair’s Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch and Liberal fascism goes to the dogs;

The Kennel Club is launching a complete review of every pedigree dog breed in the UK in a move that will have far-reaching benefits for the health of many breeds. It has also called on the government to give it the statutory powers to clamp down on breeders who fail to make a dog’s health their top priority.
[…]
In order to ensure that the plans are effective and reach all dogs, the Kennel Club has called on the government to give it statutory powers to make its established Accredited Breeder Scheme compulsory throughout the country. If successful, this would mean that all breeders who are not part of the scheme and who have not officially confirmed their willingness to follow the health standards set by the Kennel Club would be unable to produce or sell puppies within the law.

In short, they are asking to submit the breeding of purebred dogs to the same authority that was safeguarding their banking system from incompetence.

The tough approach was signalled when breeders of pekinese were told yesterday that the dogs’ flat faces were no longer acceptable because they cause breathing problems. The problem has arisen because the muzzle has become obsolete through breeding and the flesh that would have naturally covered the dog’s muzzle is instead in its throat. Other breeds to face scrutiny will include the Clumber spaniel, bloodhound, bulldog, mastiff, German shepherd, basset hound and St Bernard.

The writer states that it will take 3 to 5 years for a “new generation” of Pekingese with “pronounced muzzles” to appear, in what is apparently to be the first ever attempt to alter the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid through legislation.

  1. Since the latest research indicates that dermoid sinus in Rhodesian Ridgebacks is tied to the same gene mutation that produces the ridge it will be only a matter of time before they degree that it must be bred out of the breed altogether. I suppose they should start thinking up a new name for the breed.

  2. Isn’t the lust for power and control grand? We need not fear being left behind in Canada either. The SPCA in Quebec is asking the government for the power to enter and search private property without a warrant if they suspect animal cruelty. Now of course I think all normal people are opposed to cruelty to animals, but I am aware of too many cases where ignorant people from the SPCA had no idea of what cruelty to animals is. They swarmed in and confiscated livestock or pets in error. It was only when the matter was taken to court that the truth came out. Giving such absolute power to zealots, SPCA, UK Kennel Club or any other, only spells danger.

  3. Now I can sleep at night knowing future generations of Shiz Tzu’s won’t keep me up with their snoring.

  4. Good grief there are a lot of people on this planet with waaaaaaay too much time on their hands!

  5. Obviously this is just a trial run on the road to human neo-eugenics.(kidding).
Seriously, though, it always amaze me how creative bureaucrats can be in expanding their power over citizens. What amazes me more is how citizens seem to tolerate letting bureaucrats regulate their lives.

  6. Socialists believe people are stupid and must be controlled. There is no area of human endeavor in which this maxim does not hold, therefore there is nothing a socialist will not attempt to regulate.
Guns, dogs, schools, banks, they see no distinctions between these things. Only that which they rigidly control already and that which they are planning to.
    May they all contract mange.

  7. The UK is officially a lost cause in any event.
Having lived there the populace seems more concerned with binge drinking and soccer (i purposely say soccer) than addressing the constant erosioin of their rights and intrusion into their lives by the super-nanny state.

  8. Added a little reminder to my site about what people could wake up to on Oct. 15.
All Conservatives here feel free to add it to yours, too.

  9. Incidentally my friends, lest you think this is a British phenomenon we have a similar situation right here in the People’s Republik of Ontario.
Physical therapists are now subject to PRACTICE AUDITS by the Ontario College of PT. Have been for the last couple of years it seems. Check it out: http://www.collegept.org/
This is where College assessors come to your office and inspect every goddamn thing to make SURE you are complying with all the regulations as regards locks on filing cabinets, how much toilet paper there is in the bathroom, dotting of ‘i’s and crossing of ‘t’s on the many and various important forms (triplicate of course) and etc. Oh yeah, and they ask you a bunch of lame-ass questions while you’re working on YOUR clients, to see if you still remember all the obscure crap from your exam ten years ago. Which nobody does. Ever.
“So Mr. Phantom, what’s the name of that little dinky fold of tissue inside the nasal cavity that we asked on the exam and you’ll never ever need to know about or even see because you’re not an ear, nose and throat surgeon?”
Apparently massage therapists have the same thing happening to them.
In this way the Ontario government hopes to maintain the health of its citizens. By driving half or more of PTs out of the trade and/or under the table to escape the crushing costs of complying with obscure, idiotic regulations.

Silly rabbit! “Health Care” according to liberal socialists isn’t about treating people, it’s about creating a huge mid-level bureaucracy so that useless eaters can have jobs!
Tell ’em to come to BC…there are rehab clinics here that are hard pressed to find good PTs.

  11. There are here too, Edward. PTs are in tight supply around here. BTW, these are not public facilities we’re talking about. These are -private- clinics.

…not to mention the MILLIONS of CCTV everywhere. They really need to wake up before the socialist elite take over the world.

  14. Henry VIII tried to eradicate all horses that were under 14(?) hands high. The only survivors were on the remote Shetland Islands, hence the Shetland Pony. Most horse traders would agree that his efforts resulted in superior lines of horses. Someday we’ll all be thankful for this new effort. Imagine a world with unhealthy Pekinese.
Now lets get after those poor little Pugs.

  15. I think there is at least one, and possibly two hidden agendas here: (1) eliminate the capitalist running dog breed; (2) turn over the Kennel Club to the British Islamists.

A brief list of the things that the Socialists of Britain have managed into the shitpile.
Socialists who are represented most effectively by the Labour Party of Britain.
Socialists who have become the elite and the power brokers of Britain.
Socialists who are behaving just like socialists always do when silly, cowardly people allow them to have power … they act like Fascists.
    Any lessons learned?

  17. Their motives are suspect but the end result would be a good thing. An IPTV special about the origin of dogs had several interesting pictures of breeds as they appeared in the early 1800s versus their appearance today. The English Bulldog as mentioned previously looked more like a Boxer, long-legged, muscular but not stocky, and with a more pronounced muzzle than even today’s Boxer. I’ve never understood the purist’s desire for flat-muzzled animals, cats in particular, who really suffer when respiratory conditions ensue. Prior to selective breeding in England, dogs were termed by what they did, not by their appearance. So, a sheepdog could be any kind of mongrel just so it took direction and caused the sheep to do the same.

  18. phantom, this has been going on for a long time. at least 20 years. for all medical displines. my spelling may not be the best.
