  1. Not to worry. Once the Muslims take over, the women won’t be able to drive annyways, and Sharia law won’t allow stupid western devices. But just think! They can issue preggie tax-cedits,or flogging/stoning tax-credits,or even apostate beheading tax-credit cards!

  2. IF you can pull your eyes away from the sweetie pumping gas to examine the nozzle of the fuel hose, you will see that it has no splashguard that also helps a little bit to reduce gas volatilizing into the air while filling-up.
That a country such as the UK which professes to be one of the most radically pro-environment to not have the kind of gas capture technology on filling hoses like one sees in California made mandatory is hugely hypocritical.
The VOC’s that escape without the technology (which has been around for years BTW) are far more harmful to the environment than the carbon dioxide that comes out of the exhaust.

  3. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. What happens when one uses up all of one’s allowance of CO2 emission? If one continues to respire, ie., breathe, and expel natural CO2, then what? Will people have to wear CO2 meters on their mouths and pay a tax for each exhale?
    Talk about stupid politicians.
It’s the stuff of a weird science-fiction movie. And we’re all bit players.
Next thing you know, when we die, some factory will turn us all into green stuff for human consumption.

Fines. Lots of lovely, juicy, lip smackin’ good FINES. The socialist credo, there is no penny which does not properly belong to government, anything which gathers them in is good.

  5. G. Soros is starting to speak out, perhaps he feels uncomfortable. Maybe he & his friends are over extended in the OIL pricing scheme.
The single most important fact reveled by the Senate Big Oil hearing last week was that the US Supply side is saturated….(more supply than demand)
It is the job of SEC to panel secret Grand Juries and eliminate the corruption of market manipulation….getter done!

  6. For related “government” stupidity watch Miller here in Toronto as our resident lefty by the lake. At last count there were 818 homeless in the city with over 800 bureaucrats looking after them, some $220 million a year being pissed away for these bureaucrats. Now another $5 million to get these street beggers into homes and another 80 social workers are being hired to “consult” with the homeless.
These poor victims of our cruel society have food, booze, cigarettes and bedding delivered to them and their residue picked up by other social workers. If they have mental problems they can not be forced into shelters or forced to take needed drugs.
The same lefty mentality exists in the School Boards. Explain to me the difference between a retail clerk taking money from the till of their employers and using it for themselves versus a Board trustee (talk about a misnomer) taking a personal trip to the Dominican for an obvious holiday and charging it on the School Board’s credit card. Seems the same to me yet the clerk is charged with theft and goes to jail, the trustee, nothing.

  7. Somewhere Orwell is saying “I told you so”.
Next up from the preists of Globalist sustainability:
    * Abolition of private vehicular fuel powered travel
    * a food rationing scheme, state mandated caloric intake
    * a birth permitting system ( no one will be born without a state made job waiting for them, we don’t want worthless eaters in the bee hive society)
    * Voluntary uthenasia sold as a patriotic duty to save earth’s “resources” and eleviate the strain on health and retirement entitlement costs
    * State ownership of all productive land base ( food production and distribution as a state function)
    * restriction of single family dwellings or single occupant dwellings ( these take up too much land and resources, the state mandated dense multiplex housing in urban cores is much better for sustainability.
But then again I’m just as daft as Orwell…it’ll never happen.

  8. Yay! Rationing! Labour loved it and kept it on and on after WWII. If it weren’t for Churchill and the Tories the Brits probably would never have given up rationing.

  9. And so history continues to repeat itself.
What was old is new again and what is new will end as what came before.
    Or will it?
Given half a chance I think the British socialists which by the way includes the better half of the so called conservatives in Old Blighty…. well they may just put that last nail in the coffin this time around.
There are no more Churchills or Thatchers to pull the dolorous pudding people from their self made sewage bogs.
Britain is Dead and all we can do is watch and try not to emulate their behaviour.

  10. We already have health care rationing in Canada, meaning that people actually die due to the system’s inability to help them in time due to the mismatching of supply to demand due to the unworkability of socialism.
It’s no surprise that we’re facing the very real possibility of a future existence we’d previously thought to be only imaginary, like in a movie.
The way things are going now, I wouldn’t be surprised if cyborg assassins are sent from the future to assassinate those who try to stop the enviro-lunatics from imposing their insanity on the world…

CS … that quote is beautiful. As I read it an entire movie ran through my head … made my morning.

  12. Canadian Sentinel asks: “What happens when one uses up all of one’s allowance of CO2 emission?”

I think the answer is obvious: death camps.
Ultimately, that’s where this is heading.

  13. The real question is what happens when all the people who value their freedom leave for better pastures and there are only the wing nuts left.

  14. Well, the upside to this is that it elevates the status of gas siphoning from a petty crime to a revolutionary act.

  15. Surprise, surprise !? Nope.
The man from Oak Lake, Manitoba was working on this 15 years ago !
    To take away our lifestyles because of;
    – unusual Global Warming (which isn’t hapening)
    – bad CO2 (which plants love and doesn’t bother us one bit)
    – dwindling oil supplies ( his greens prevent us from tapping into the billions, and billions of barrels still available)
All the while working with undemocratic regeims at the UN in an attempt to force Western Democracies to enforce policies such as MP Tim Yeo’s ‘Personal Carbon Rationing’ scheme.
“[industrial countries] developed and benefited from the unsustainable patterns of production and consumption which have produced our present dilemma. It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class — involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work-place air-conditioning, and suburban housing — are not sustainable. A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmentally damaging consumption patterns.” Maurice Strong, Rio Conference, Earth Summit II 1992
In the meantime, private jets and private islands for the “saviours”.

  16. Fear of a ‘Population Bomb’ caused many greens to push for rationing of ‘the air we breath’ – our lifestyles are not sustainable, Kyoto n’ all that.
[Russia’s population of 142 million is shrinking by more than 700,000 a year and may have halved by 2050.] Telegraph
Halved by 2050 ! Same may happen to many other countries if immigration slows, low birth rate, ect.
    Sooo, without even trying (or lack of trying, ha) mankind will;
    – halve CO2 emissions by 2050
    – solve the pop bomb
    – reduce fossil fuel use by half
    – solve the food crisis caused by biofuels
    – cause pension plans to collapse

  17. Welcome, new English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh friends! We have space! Bring your languages, your music, your history, your art. We love “diversity” here.

  18. Wait till the next election and see what happens to labour. It will make Kim Campbell’s showing look like a victory.

  19. Occam,
Although they aren’t good, they can’t possibly be as bad as Labour. It just isn’t possible.
And there is hope that after an election that Cameron will unearth harper’s lost hidden agenda we’ve all been hoping for. My thought is that it’s hidden with Nessie up in Scotland. Either that or underneight Hoffa’s grave.

  20. Blair’s Britain? But Yeo is a tory. Looks rather hopeless to me. Maybe it should be called Yeo’s UK. Makes an appropriate acronym.

  21. Bizarre that a Tory MP would be championing this, since the Labour government abandoned the idea a couple of days after their ass-whupping in local elections a short time ago.
Talk about “tin ear.”  Yeo needs a lesson in retail politics — besides the one he just saw Labour given, I mean.  😉

  22. One more comment: as someone who’s had economics and financial training, it seems that such a scheme would require some fairly sophisticated measurements of CO2 requirements on a national basis, as a first step towards allocating carbon credits to everybody in the land.  I’m radically unconvinced that the British government (or any other government on the planet) has the econometric wherewithal and smarts to make even a reasonable first-order approximation of such a number.
The alternative, as the Dilbert cartoon strip so eloquently put it a few years ago, is for a doctor with a flashlight to show us where the U.K. government gets its econometric estimates from.

  23. “Bring your languages, your music, your history, your art.”
Don’t forget your entirely drinkable whisky!
(H/T to Garnet Rogers “Home in Halifax”)

  24. It really isn’t about the Environment at all. It’s about controlling you, what you do, where you go, what you eat, your every thought.
It’s about you voluntarily giving up the freedom to live the life you want for being a prisoner of the state; it’s about giving up wilderness for a cage at the zoo.

  25. Of course rich envirocrits like Al Gore could just buy up enough “carbon credits” to maintain the lavish lifestyles they presently enjoy. Also, they could feel good about themselves, which is really what all this green lunacy is about anyway.

  26. He really means that if implemented, over time they will reduce the allowed carbon credit allowance as they increase the price to purchase more. Hence ONLY the rich will afford to travel and the poor will remain in their homes begging for heating fuel……….ah socialism.

  27. The sad truth is that the “Conservatives” will emulate ZaNuLabour. They are committed to the same spending plans. However I think that in the next year or so they will start to diverge from this. Many people have seen through the “green taxes” bullshit smokescreen and realise it is just a ploy for more taxes. More money to pour into welfare and a broken NHS. The idea of carbon tax credits for the average Joe is just batshit mad. Oh let me see I will forgo my holiday in Florida this year and give the carbon credit to my welfare assisted neighbour? I think not.
Already the government in Britain is under the cosh over proposed increases in “road tax” next year. A family car will go up from $400 a year to $600. If this is implemented I can see the voters taking a very anti Labour stance. A lot of Labour MP’s will be joining the unemployed. The next election will be a bloodbath for Labour. However Cameron I am afraid reminds me of that worthless tosser Ted Heath. The one that conned us into joing the EEC as it was in 1973. The Tories are unlikely to tackle the real cancer that is wrecking Britain uncontrolled immigration and welfare both brought on by socialism.
