Reader Tips 57 Comments

A note to those of you who take the time to send me your links and your private comments – and who don’t get a response, or wonder why I don’t use them. It’s usually just a matter of available time, space, and energy. Sometimes the story has been covered in abundance elsewhere, (and sometimes I’ve already used it and you didn’t notice). But, I do want you all to know that your efforts are appreciated. I wish I had time to acknowledge everything sent my way, but I’d never get any work done – much less blogging!

  6. btdt – Thank-you for the prayer on Good Friday. It is the sadest day of the year for me. The sacrifice of God’s only Son, Jesus for the likes of me makes me feel so unworthy.

    Trashed blueprints give ‘key’ to anti-terror unit
    Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day says he’s launched a probe to find out how blueprints for a new military counter-terrorism unit ended up in a downtown Ottawa garbage can.
    The probe was launched after the discovery of blueprints containing sensitive details on the unit.
    Anthony Salloum, policy analyst for the left-leaning Rideau Institute, says he and his spouse came upon seven cardboard tubes of blueprints in a pile of trash during a walk on Bank Street on Oct 13.

    Anyone else thinks it is highly suspicious that a leftist from a leftist think-tank critical of this exact topic ( military defense, terrorism etc…) just happened to be there at the right moment?
    Does he have inside help, another leftist who put those tubes out there for Salloum to pick them up?
    On top of this Salloum says he has no idea what happened to the other 5 or 6 tubes…
    yeah right
    I just do not buy it.

  12. If plans were found, from the DND wouldn’t they have been found on DND property. These plans were found somewhere else. It is that place and company and employees that are responsible for them being misplaced. This story stinks from start to finish. If these plans were so secret, why did the finder not call the police or DND officials. Why did the media publicize these plans for all the world to see, especially our enemies. They all start the story, secret plans.
    It just proves none of our media can be trusted to protect Canada, but have no qualms about letting our enemies know our weak spots.
    Who left the plans in the garbage. Were they really left there or is it the story concocted by the finder. Who gave them to him. What is his motive. The contractor and their employees are responsible. The DND is just guilty of not vetting potential bidders better.
    Who told the finder where they would be, how often as the finder been in that area to eat out.
    Where are the other 6 rolls, if they ever existed.
    The finder is no hero, he is an enemy of Canada.
    The media is also guilty of some bad actions.
    Is the DND supposed to send police to watch over any plans etc 24/7 when going out for bids.
    THE MISPLACED PLANS WERE NOT THE FAULT OF THE DND.
    NO MATTER HOW THE MEDIA AND LIBERALS TRY TO SPIN IT. THE MAN WHO FOUND THEM IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

  19. This “plans in a tube” story is really beginning to stretch credulity. While watching the individual “finder” on both CBC and then again on CTV, his whole persona/attitude seemed to ring hollow – as if he had just found something of little consequence, and he was a little to light-hearted about the whole thing during his interviews.
    Given his occupation and the fact that he only saw fit to pick up one tube and notify the press first is totally ludicrous. So far, nobody seems to know where the other half dozen tubes are and this also furthers speculation about the whole matter.
    Let’s hope that the power’s that be sort this one out before more nonsense is propagated by the MSM.

  24. Channel surfing last evening, I caught a clip of CBC’s George Stroumboloupolous (spelling?) interlacing images of Philipino Christians reenacting the crucifixion and cartoon images of Jesus on the cross.
    His joke centred around the need for proper sterilization of tools and nails.
    Does anyone find it ironic that the CBC news personality has umpteen piercings (genitals included) and tattoos?
    He can mock people who do it for faith, yet his own glam flesh modification was out of what? Vanity and insecurity perhaps?
    This after a week where CBC was taken to task by Ian Hunter in the Post and followed up with applause in a CBC Sunday piece for the Catholic University in Rome that told the Pope to stay home when invited to make a speech.

  30. No problem RW. The Old Testament makes many references to the coming of a Saviour to die for His people’s sins. Here’s another from the Book of Isaiah:
    “Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign. The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”
    Isaiah 7:13-14 (NIV)
    Immanuel can be roughly translated into “God with us” and is used in the context of salvation.

Hey Kate, I’ve been participating in Angus Reid’s web surveys for a while – partly because you get paid a bit for each survey, but mainly because I was curious about whether or not the questions would be biased. Here were the choices for the march Monthly Mosaic’s question about whether you think Canadians are doing enough to reduce their carbon footprint:
    Yes
    No
    I Don’t Care
    I Don’t Know
    Sound like bias to you much?! Not much room for a difference of opinion about whether carbon footprints are bs in the first place or not there – in what is supposedly a survey of opinion. I’ve noticed it before with environmental questions – the lead in to a section of environmental questions once actually said something like “its ok if you don’t believe in global warming, we want to hear from you too!” How nice of the people at Angus Reid! I didn’t think to get a screenshot or whatever but if you wanted one you could join and do this months mosaic. Its these kinds of questions that are used to browbeat politicians for not taking actions to save the world as the people of Canada demand. (www.angusreidforum.com)

  41. check out Steve Janke’s blog, Angry in the Great White North. They are having a discussion, with, apparently, a Liberal, about the backroom agenda on dealing with Dion.
    Most of it is focused on getting Dion to resign, with the intent of having Bob Rae take over as leader.
    Rumours are that Ignatieff will be deposed and Rae will replace him as Deputy Leader. I wonder if Ignatieff might then leave..back to academia.
    Discussion is on the fact that the two leadership candidates, Rae and Findlay, both won easily. But the two candidates selected by Dion either lost of narrowly won.
    Then, there’s the suggestion that Rae’s backers, PowerCorp, Desmarais, might ‘buy off’ Dion, who still has to pay off his leadership expenses. [I’m sure Rae’s are already paid off by PowerCorp.]
    Somehow, the Liberals want to get rid of Dion and get Rae in as the Liberal leader. Not Ignatieff. Rae.
    My own view is that they will try to marginalize Dion by their tactic of ‘we don’t have a single leader’ but a Team-Leadership. That tactic has a limited reach; Dion would collapse in the Leadership debates.
    The problem with having an election to get rid of Dion is that it would also reduce the number of Liberal MPs.

  44. To all of you here. Whether or not you are Christian, this weekend should mean a great deal to you. Through the ages, the belief in this religion has done more for the people of this world than any mortal could do. The great leaders of our past and present time were influenced by their beliefs and we are a much better world because of it. If you don’t wish to acknowledge
    Easter because you don’t believe, that’s fine.
    But please acknowledge the influence that those who believe have had on our lives and that whatever Diety you believe in thank him, her or it, that we have had this unique opportunity.
    Just being able to post this diatribe is proof that the system is still working and we are free to express our opinions, without fear or favor.

    Why didn’t the Librano$ get Ms. Martin out of Mexico when this first happened two years ago, and they were the Party in power? Answer that, Mr. Dion, and then shut up.

The values of sacrifice, generosity, responsibility, and accountability, among many others, were exemplified by the Son of God who laid down his life for us on God Friday–not just for those who believe in Him but for the whole world.
