Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Maybe the Liberal Party is just focus testing; the pictured guy is way more electable.
Hoorah! Another space to post inconsequential and self-satisfied insults about Dion, the Liberals, the Left, etc. Thanks, Kate!
Maybe he’s doing the pathology report on the Dion liberals…
Giggles Taber sez: “Stephane Dion – not hot!”
Hmmmm….confusing one incompetent with another…….
Oh indeed these people are quiet the experts on cover-ups. While I am no fan of the fake tory or red tory in question, he did not have enough time to perfect corruption to equal the liberals.
SDA, interesting comment but actually there could never be enough space to cover all the scams, lies and cheating of the Left.
I thought it was a boob ray/deyawn layover. Turns out it is some other guy who looks like the triplet of boob and deyawn. Now, how could the newspaper allow this to pass? Bigger question: WHY was it allowed to pass?
The last government run at Brian Mulroney cost the taxpayers $2.5 million. And there is a book out there, “On the Take”, by Stevie Cameron, which alleges corruption in the Mulroney years, but seems to have led to no prosecutions. So if Brian Mulroney has ever strayed from the straight and narrow (perish the thought!), it is reasonable to assume that proving it will be very difficult. I would guess Mr. Harper reached that conclusion a long time ago.
The law couldn’t touch Brian Mulroney, but the electorate certainly could! And good for us, I say.
The Blubb and Wail is amusing at times. Emotionally, of course, they are true blue Liberal. But a few of them (in the editorial suite) show signs of rational thought, and whenever they do think they endorse the Harper government. The winces of pain as they do so are all but palpable.
The next time we’re on the hook for a Mulroney libel suit, I think the Liberal Party’s account should be garnisheed – for both the payouts.
Fat chance tying this to Harper. Which is the scandal they’re hoping for. Wasn’t the end of Mulroney’s tenure about the time the reform party came along?
Next up: Open season on Chretien, Martin and Power Corp.
Frankly I’d think you average CPC member (take me for example) would be ALL OVER a chance to get Mulroney.
Repeat after me:
Red Tories are not conservatives.
Red Tories are not our friends.
We do not like Red Tories.
Ontario PC Party, please take particular note.
Harper could stoop to taking lessons from Dion and the Puffin party who expertly cover up their …..,well, you know.
Harper knew 7 months ago, but he’s a guy who has to get caught with the cookies already in his stomach before he’ll admit to anything. Crumbs all over his face and hands don’t mean a thing.
Some commenters here may disagree.
Harpershreibergate?
Harper was essential in forming the Reform party and this was partly as a result of Mulroney’s perceived corruption. Certainly in the West Reform was a rejection of Mulroney specifically and the PCs more generally.
To tie the Conservatives with the Progressive Conservatives is ludicrous.
enough
But, enough, that’s precisely what Dion and the Liberal Party are attempting to do – link Harper and Mulroney, link the Progressive Conservatives with the Conservative Party.
Of course, it’s illogical and invalid, but, the Liberal Party, remember, operates by propaganda, not facts.
Mulroney may very well be guilty of nefarious and corrupt actions both within and outside of office. But, his actions of 15 years ago, have nothing to do with Harper.
After all, is Dion responsible for Paul Martin’s setting up his shipping lines in foreign countries so that they wouldn’t have to pay Canadian taxes? No- and that’s a situation within the same political party!
But the Liberals have no policies, only abstract rhetoric, such as ‘Saving Canada from Greenhouse Gases by Kyotoism’ and ‘Saving Canada from Poverty by..whatever’. ‘Being Tolerant’.
So, the only way they can get back to Power, they think, is by their traditional tactic. That tactic is: Propaganda. They can’t find anything on Harper. So, they are trying to connect Harper with Mulroney.
And there are plenty of dead-brained types who will fall for that type of propaganda, the types who don’t stop and think..and wonder..about, how two people were connected 15 years ago when Harper was in his early 30’s without power and Mulroney was a big time entrepreneur and political power.
I think we need to take this story seriously. Last week I sent an e-mail in to CBC. My question was simple. How much money did the CBC’s “Fifth Estate” spend on the Mulroney-Schreiber story to date? I haven’t had an answer yet. (They traveled to Switzerland hoping to uncover more dirt.)
This is a Liberal scam–that’s what “we the people” need to uncover. If 9 RCMP officers working on the case couldn’t uncover as much as a fly speck against the ex-PM., why is the CBC pursuing this?
And who is footing the bill from the CBC?
Enough, that’s funny. Aren’t they Tories? I haven’t heard any loud protests from the CPC against the lazy use of that word in reference to Harper and the gang. As long as that moniker put Canadians at ease, nobody seemed to mind.
Are you now uncomfortable with it?
If you are, I would agree with you that it doesn’t fit. This party is a new creature altogether.
I think Mr. Harper needs to bring up the fact that his reason for running for office in the first place was to destroy the Progressive Conservative Party and replace it with something better. That has happeneed.
Take this seriously,JJ?
That’s hard to do when we look at picture that resembles a mix of Bob Rae and Dion , and turns out to be a coroner named Smith.Subliminal on the part of G&M?
For about a year Dion and company have been stomping and ranting to get ‘attention’ to try to lay something on Harper and the CPC.
It’s getting tired.
M. Dion is looking much better — more relaxed, serene, even.
If it looks and smells like a Liberal, it’s a Liberal, and it’s lying. This is Dion’s last straw to sweep some of the Sposorship dust under the carpet. What kind of lowlife would beleive an affidvit from a jailbird who stands to avoid extradition by lying in his oath? If you’ve answered “a Liberal,” you’re party right. If you’ve answered “Stephane Dion,” you are right on.
And by the by, the word “extradition” in old French means “traitor.” As for the “Globe and Mail,” why don’t they just name it, “My Liberal Friend.” Let the eastern B@£¢@$%* freeze in the smog!

Crabgrass,
I am sure that there was someone who did not like the term “tories”. This is a new party, review the history of Reform, Canadian Alliance then the new Conservative party. Like it or not, Reformers absorbed the remnants of the Conservatives. Joe Clarck certainly objected to this. There still is a few fighting in court over this.
One things that is a bit of reassurance is that while everyone else is playing checkers, Harper is playing chess. Love that quote. He has done very well so far against all odds.
I would suspect that terms of this invstigation will broaden to include Chretien somehow. Then see how fast the Liberals want to shut it down. He is a step or two ahead.
ET, my mistake. Liberals and ludicrous are interchangeable words.
enough
I wrote in a comment early on when there was only about 20 comments. I am all for going after the truth about this affair, but I also noted that Chretien, from just 4 years ago,and his wife were gifted a 2 mil. mansion fron powercorp shortly after papa jean left office,in Aline’s name nonetheless. Unfortunately my comment was not published as it did not meet thier guidelines, which are quite liberal.
every time I see Dijon jumping up and down waving frantically at the media making a “me too..lookit me” statement…. I get a visual of moping Kermit lamenting about how it isn’t easy being green.
Jimmie Joe! Cool it down! I do understand the easterners are rather more “gullible” to front page headlines than we are in the west. But that has nothing to do with wrecking our relationship with Ontario and Quebec. The last poll shows 43% in favour of Conservatives. Obviously, Schreider and his friend Dion have failed. They hate Dion in Quebec almost as bad as we do in the west. Isn’t it time we elect a party that will cater to national unity! And let’s face the facts. Mulroney should have come clean on this years ago!
“Of course, it’s illogical and invalid, but, the Liberal Party, remember, operates by propaganda, not facts.”
Exactly right ET.
The Liberals and their machinery, including the CBC and the Star have no ethics. It is only about power. Therefore there only tool is propoganda. It’s about memes and the spread of memes through an ignorant (not derogatory) and predesposed voting audience.
From a earlier post in readers tips:
Based on the libelous Star headline: PM to cities: Drop dead –
In todays Toronto Star (or rather, Pimp of filthy propoganda), letter writer, June Porter notes:
“Prime Minister Stephen Harper should be careful about telling cities to drop dead…”
When the star’s grossly manipulated, obviously ignorant readers confirm the lie in writing – one would think this more than proves libel.
Dion’s ‘New bold plan against poverty,’ was highlighted in the Saturday Star and trumpeted as ‘Dion’s Strategy against poverty’ in the editorial section. Although, there was no strategy, no means, nothing. it was merely an empty statement, devoid of substance, or even facts as to what the poverty numbers are.
As I said earlier. Fat chance tying this to Harper. But that’s what the filthy liberal machine will attempt to do.
Leftoid naysayers, take note and see for yourselves.
Just on Duffy , a couple of Strategic Council polls .
Should Dion be replaced ?
Yes 36% No 18% Neither 32% Don’t Know 14%
Who should be Liberal leader ?
J.Trudeau 40% Iggy 25% Rae 23% Kennedy 11%
mulroney , cretian, martin, they are all quebec style politicians. the country run by on the take politicians at the intersection of bay street and sussex drive,
free the west, you have nothing to lose but the ball and chain of the east.
“Who should be Liberal leader ?
J.Trudeau 40% Iggy 25% Rae 23% Kennedy 11%”
Once again, this shows how Liberals think. No policy. No substance. Nothing. Only power.
With regards to this poll, through mythical propoganda.
They don’t care, or even know, that Canada is on the verge of coming into it’s own. Canada is not a cult of one socialist’s personality. (or two, if you want to include Tommy Douglas)

Thankee fer the comments, fellers an’ gals. I see the Globe took out the wrong pitcher now. Good thing I grabbed the screenshot.
I posted a link to Duffy ( being moderated ) , hope Kate lets it through ( the url was about a mile long ) . And yes irwin daisy , I damned near fell off my chair at the mention of Trudeau and the 40% beside his name …… yikes ….
The Strategic Council’s only strategy is to boost the progressives and denigrate the right. This poll shpws the deep thinking in the liberal mind, a well=known name beats intelligence or experience. If you transpose thier polling to the Conservative party,Ben Mulrooney should be at the top.Never happen,But then the conservatives do have a capable man at the helm.
Notice how they are throwing Dion under the bus and replacing him immediately in back to back ” Polls ” ……
Sworn affidavits from a criminal behind bars awaiting deportation. Hmmmmmm must be honest.
PM’s position actually hasn’t changed. The new affidavits released now say the PM was told stuff by Mulroney at a social gathering last year at Harrington Lake summer residence. Interesting how although Karl Heinz Shreiber was behind bars at the time, wasn’t at the meeting but swears he knows what was said. Must be a psychic as well as a criminal.
Or maybe he is just trying to stall his deportation by lying like a rug and figuring he will be allowed to stay in Canada to be a witness
Now that the criminal has implicated the current PM’s office, the investigation into maybe independent inquiry is reasonable.
Maybe we could pay someone in Kingston Pen to swear an affidavit against Chretien and finally find out how many millions he pocketed after he got the federal Business Development Bank to loan millions to a guy a that owed Cretin money . . . . he paid Cretin out of the loan perhaps ??
Or Martin’s contracts with his cronies that had the taxpayers funding his political coup agianst Cretin. Now that would a fun investigation.
I know there is a cover up there somewhere.
This Mulroney affair revisited is just what the Doctor ordered for the media hacks across the board.
Their Liberals are in such a mess there’s no way they could come up from the depths of despair without some real or perceived misdeed by the Harper Conservatives.
There’s one small problem, this has NOTHING whatever to do with this CONSERVATIVE Party and it’s Leader.
This is NOT the Progressive Conservative Party of Brian Mulroney, they’re defunct. This is a new amalgamation.
However we’ll have to listen to the Desperadoes in the Opposition, especially the Liberals and their Minions in the MSM.
If the Liberals want to go back, maybe they’d like to take blame for all the past misdeeds or bad judgment in the history of their party, it would be more fitting, it’s the same brand.
Back on topic…..
The picture from the article elicited the thought …. “Jeeze when did Dion get the good haricut?
Then I realized it was a snafu from Globe…..
Then it came to mind that Chretien squashed the inquiry into this back in around 1995 after the lawsuit by The Chin Man. The Mounties folded like paper figures they are and the Liberals went back to milking the cow.
So what does this insufferable tool Dion think he is going to get out of this?
Well I’m betting that it’s going to be yet ANOTHER political @ss kicking at the hands of Stephen Harper!

Jack’s News Watch

If Dion truly was a leader, he would be announcing policies (real ones, not rhetorical ones) every few days, as Harper did during last campaign. Instead, he is trying to stain Harper with the Mulroney “affair.” Some affair, no criminal action proven, no charges laid (unlike Adscam), no link up of Mulroney getting cash from Schreiber and Grit libel settlement, and the “smoking gun” from an indicted man trying to avoid extradition and jail time. Don’t the Grits realize Mulroney is cut from exactly the same cloth as Chretien, so is too slippery to get nailed, even if he did something wrong.
Well, good luck with that one. Dion, as usual, will end up with egg on his face again. Yes, Grits about power (more than any other party anyway, by a long shot), but that is no excuse for the Dion gong show.
He’s proving the Tory case that he’s no leader. Like I said he is flogging a dead horse in a no-win situation. If anything comes up on radar over Mulroney, Harper gets to nail him, look like law and order PM, then smoke Grits once and for all with burned down clubhouse, more Adscam and CSL “investigations.” Harper made this precise warning with his “be careful what you wish for” statement.
Ah, the Liberal party; how the mighty have fallen. Now they are the ones fighting over a split vote, desperately trying to find a scandal to give them traction. At least the Reformers cum Alliance cum CPC had real scandals and misuse of taxpayers’ money to work with. Maybe the Grits can dredge up another war criminal accusation against our troops, or perhaps march in another terrorist rally. Who knows what this walking deadmen group will come up with next.
They should get rid of Dion now, move back towards the centre, just left of the Tories, and bring back the Chretien doctrine – make lots of promises you have no intention of keeping, and suppress all scandals, criticism and boondogles from public view. I doubt Grits will take that advice, and, well, that is fine with me. I did tell them so, though.
I think that PMSH should be truly even handed in this whole affair. Every living PM should have his time in office open to investigation with an eye to corruption in/of office of the PM. I also think that this should be a standing office kind of like the Auditor General except given the power to begin legal action if and when deserving.
One of the things that is inappropriate about calling a judicial enquiry on this one is that there is little (or nothing) to be gained for the Government of Canada. With Adscam there were internal processes that needed to be cleaned up and a sinister network of participants. This time we have one person who may or may not have been involved in a transgression. That individual is no longer working for the government and the only issue (as far as I can tell) is whether or not the $2.5 million should be repaid. Well, I anticipate that a judicial enquiry would cost much more than this (think of the translations alone!). Of course, if there is wrong doing on Mulroney’s or anyone else’s part, they should certainly face the consequences, but surely this could easily be brought about via an RCMP investigation. The call for a judicial enquiry on something like this is serious overkill. It is clearly vindicitive and would be a colossal waste of money. I am also not looking forward to the endless media coverage of something that is of marginal interest regarding people who are no longer significant players in the political arena. Spare us PLEASE.
Ask a Liberal if anyone should be investigated from the chretien years, the reply will be “no,that was then this is now”. Then ask them why they are going after Harper about something that happened 14 years ago, involving a party that no longer exists, based on a man who is in jail for fraud, bribery, and tax evasion(liberal traits, for sure). The reply,”Do you think it is easy to make sense?”
agree Joe,
PMSH, whatever his shortcomings, is not a man afflicted with dithering or a naive perspective on personal loyalty.
Harper will not abide for a nanosecond the prospect of some past Mulroney dirt staining his government.
If the Airbus allegations are proven Mulroney may wish the Liberals were still in power.
” Of course, if there is wrong doing on Mulroney’s or anyone else’s part, they should certainly face the consequences, but surely this could easily be brought about via an RCMP investigation. The call for a judicial enquiry on something like this is serious overkill. It is clearly vindicitive and would be a colossal waste of money. The very same thing could have been said about Adscam. In fact, the very same thing WAS said about Adscam, by Chretien. Let the RCMP handle it, no need for an investigation, an investigation would cost more than any money taken. And in fact, technically, he was right: the investigation costs far far exceeded anyone’s worst estimate of how much money was absconded.
So are people here agreeing that Martin’s political suicide in calling the Gomery Inquiry was wrong?
Another comparison is that, until the so-called “Liberal friendly” MSM pursued and pursued and pursued the Adscam rumours (eventually broken by the Globe and Mail), these rumours and inuendos were also “something that is of marginal interest”. After the story broke, the opposition parties and their supporters started to care, and only after the Gomery discoveries did the general non-political public really start paying attention and get angry.
$300,000. In cash. In three private visits with no witnesses. In hotel rooms. No taxes paid (until it was obvious CRA would find out). No services rendered. And no explanation from Mulroney after years of promising an explanation.
And conservatives want to defend this guy? See no evil. Hear no evil. Smell no stink. Keep the blindfolds on. Keep drinking the kool-aid.
Oh, forgot about: Lying under oath about how well he knew Mr. Karlheinz Schreiber.
And Chretien was just as corrupt, in my personal view, is hardly a defence of Mr. Mulroney’s actions.
Breaking Chretien-Martin-Dion’s AdScam/Shawinigate wide open. Bah, oui: SHAWINIGATE: L’AFFAIR GRAND-MERE et L’AdScam par les Librano$$$$$$$

Chretien should explain Mulroney payout, minister says
Jack Aubry and Marianne White , CanWest News Service
Published: Monday, November 12, 2007
OTTAWA – Former Liberal prime minister Jean Chretien should explain why the federal government paid former Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney $2.1 million as part of an out-of-court settlement a decade ago, a Harper cabinet minister says.
Lawrence Cannon, who is Stephen Harper’s Quebec political lieutenant, said Monday that Chretien holds a lot of the answers to the current controversy over the settlement. Opposition MPs have been raising questions over $300,000 in cash payments that Mulroney received in 1993 and 1994 from German businessman Karlheinz Schreiber and his subsequent late tax payments on the money.
“At the end of the day, it was under Mr. Chretien’s period of office that people found that Mr. Mulroney was completely exonerated,” said Cannon. “So, if Mr. Chretien or his successor have any problem with that, maybe they should start by explaining why at that time they paid Mr. Mulroney a compensation for being unjustly accused.”
See no evil. Hear no evil. Smell no stink. Keep the blindfolds on. Keep drinking the kool-aid. .
Finally , a policy plank from the Liberals…. should sell well in Toronto , eh Ted ?
“why at that time they paid Mr. Mulroney a compensation for being unjustly accused.”
Because Mulroney lied about his relationship with Karlheinz Schreiber, saying that he barely knew him, had no business with him, had met him only a few times and never when Prime Minister.
How many secret, unreported, cash payments in hotel rooms did Mulroney get that he couldn’t remember Mr. Schreiber?
Dunno Ted how did PMJC sell his golf course? How did the head of Business Developement Bank loose his job? How about all those envelopes full of money that moved into Liberal Ad agencies. If Mulroney broke the law nail him. If Cretien and Martin did the same lets nail them too.
Ted,
You sure about those statements? Kindly find those quotes please. Mulroney used weasely lawyerese in his answers.
Damn Liberals, making me stick up for Mulroney the most hated man in western Canada.
That is your problem Ted. Well, one of them. Tories do not really want to defend this guy. Overwhelmingly they aren’t. Not substantively.
enough
I agree with Ted,Mulrooney should be investigated again. But then so should Gagliano,Radwanski,Chretien.Dingwall,Zacradelli,Martin,etc.etc,.ad infutum,ad nauseum.
