Interesting outlook. I am also from Saskatchewan and I also love the province. Funny thing about that, love does not pay the bills. Today, I live in the Niagara region. That is where my education took me.
What I remember most about the aftermath of that “cartoon” was all the raging Christians rioting in the streets killing and looting and oh wait it never happened.
I have never been to Saskatchewan. You people must be made of very stern stuff indeed. So many years under NDP rule. Hell here in Ontario we flirted with it once and it nearly ruined us.

The Sask Party plan is sound, and similar plans have been shown to be successful, like how the NWT forgives Student Loans to students who return to the NWT after post secondary education.

What is also VERY humorous to point out is that his evidence for the “growth” in Saskatchewan is the amount of concerts being played at Louis and Amigos. He is talking about giving credit where it is due? Then give it to Jason who is working his ass off at Louis to bring in these big names. And his second point is that even though Saskatchewan has lost 35000 people they are still people moving into Saskatchewan. That’s like saying “shit I just got back from Vegas and lost 15 grand on the slots but it is ok cause I won 500 playing poker”. What an embarrassment. Almost as bad as his Halloween costume (walked around with a pot on his head). Oh and last time I checked, my membership card had SaskParty listed as one word.

Had Hamilton simply made the case that the province’s economy has improved so much that the Sask Party’s retention plan is unnecessary, and backed it up with facts and figures, I would have little problem with the editorial. It might have provided valuable insight into an election issue.

This guy is not playing with a full deck. Being a young 28 year old who has grown up in Ontario I can say that the writer lacks basic understanding of his own situation. It sounds more like parroting a line he heard elsewhere than a true defense of his position and logical explanation of why the Sask party idea is bad. Not to offend all you Saskatchewan readers but unless you already live in Saskatchewan … you don’t want to live there. I live in mid town Toronto, and I have a number of friends and acquaintances from other provinces. I see people come here to find work and I hear of people moving to Calgary for work. outside of that people don’t leave a good place for any place that is less beneficial. He has every right to be offended, but he should be more offended that the NDP has let Saskatchewan get this bad. At least the Sask party offers an alternative to continuing on in the same direction.

Here’s a little FACT to get in the way of you orange coloured glasses. When they joined Canada in 1905, neither province had a pot to pee in, or a window to throw it out of. Alberta was a poor boy province as well. But when they hit “the big one” at Leduc, Alberta figured out how to make it work. Alberta was one of the “have-not” provinces until about 1975 or so, when it became a (gasp) “have” province and began to pay in to the pot to sustain the other losers in Confederation. Did they whine, bitch moan and complain? Nope, they revelled in the fact that they were pulling their own weight plus.
Unlike Lorne. who got all worked up when it was suggested that now that SK was earning a decent living wage, they might have to give up their welfare cheque.

My husband’s job had taken us away from Saskatchewan for 5 years, when we came back we were astounded to see that the population had all but migrated to Alberta. My daughter-in-law, a nurse under Lorne Calverts’ govt. could not get full time work in Saskatoon, so off to Alberta with her husband, our son, and grandson they went. During the last provincial election our local NDP candidate had the nerve to ask for our vote. When she sat in our living room we informed her that we had moved back to the wrong province. Since when did the oil in the ground stop at the
Alberta/Saskatchewan border…why had there been NO progress in this province during the 5 years that we were away? My husband did his provincial taxes the Alberta way, since we were able to use our kid’ address in Alberta. We dicovered that we would have paid $4,000 the Alberta way…and $8,000 the Saskatchewan way. As the NDP person was leaving, we asked her if she had done HER taxes the Alberta way…she said that she had…and? we asked? what did you find out?…Her answer was that she “didn’t like what she saw”

There are not great jobs in Saskatchewan. Those students who enter professional faculties enter them to do what they see as interesting creative positions. The jobs being created in the SK boom are not those that will drive any ambitious young Sask residents to stay. Here’s a little FACT to get in the way of you orange coloured glasses. When they joined Canada in 1905, neither province had a pot to pee in, or a window to throw it out of. Alberta was a poor boy province as well. But when they hit “the big one” at Leduc, Alberta figured out how to make it work. Alberta was one of the “have-not” provinces until about 1975 or so, when it became a (gasp) “have” province and began to pay in to the pot to sustain the other losers in Confederation. Did they whine, bitch moan and complain? Nope, they revelled in the fact that they were pulling their own weight plus.
Unlike Lorne. who got all worked up when it was suggested that now that SK was earning a decent living wage, they might have to give up their welfare cheque.
So, ok4ua, may I respectfully suggest that Alberta had even LESS to work with at the beginning, but overcame it with a “we can do it” attitude, as opposed to a “the gov”t. can do it attitude”.
What are those poor unfortunates with your woe is me attitude going to do when SK achieves the success, wealth, and vigor that it has been throwing away for the majority of the past 102 years? I know; you can move to Manitoba!
Who can argue the wisdom of Mr Hamilton who, having attended some righteous concerts at the local student watering holes, pronounces an economic and cultural boom? He failed to mention the fact that there were easily twice the usual number of tents selling handcrafted toe rings and hemp man-bags at the Fringe this year. Clearly we are an “economic epicentre of the prairies”. Forget the Alberta oil sands and their hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign investment. If you want something you can take to the bank, you’ve got to catch The Barmitzvah Brothers and Cuff The Duke rocking it up off Broadway. And highballs are $4 till 10! Unlike the Sask Party, the NDP are not buying votes with their proposed $1000 tuition cut. They are ensuring all students will never have to choose between cover and getting nicely toasted in the front row at Louis’.
As for the pinhead editor at the student newspaper, c’mon. University papers are notorious for being the home for all the socially disaffected youth. It’s been like that since the 70s at least. They’re not journalists folks. Most of them still have their names written on their underwear.

1) Albertans didn’t find a pot of money under a rock. Their wealth was created by hard work and entrepreneuralism coupled with a government that knew a hands off style of governing unleashes the power of said entrepreneuralism to develop the resources under their feet.
2) Japan has virtually no natural resources outside of the fishery. It has to import much of its food. Yet is has the third largest economy in the world. The situation in Singapore is similar. The governments there manage the infrastructure and the entrepreneurs do the rest.

Yeah Louise,but the lefties hate to hear the truth.Truth? Saskabush has MORE natural oil/gas reserves then Alberta(which I reside in). Funny how the dippers can stop that stuff at the border!Thanks to the socialists,we in AB have much to be thankful for.They drove ESSO OUT of Sask and into AB,where they discovered Leduc #1. My husband’s job had taken us away from Saskatchewan for 5 years, when we came back we were astounded to see that the population had all but migrated to Alberta. My daughter-in-law, a nurse under Lorne Calverts’ govt. could not get full time work in Saskatoon, so off to Alberta with her husband, our son, and grandson they went. During the last provincial election our local NDP candidate had the nerve to ask for our vote. When she sat in our living room we informed her that we had moved back to the wrong province. Since when did the oil in the ground stop at the
Alberta/Saskatchewan border…why had there been NO progress in this province during the 5 years that we were away? My husband did his provincial taxes the Alberta way, since we were able to use our kid’ address in Alberta. We dicovered that we would have paid $4,000 the Alberta way…and $8,000 the Saskatchewan way. As the NDP person was leaving, we asked her if she had done HER taxes the Alberta way…she said that she had…and? we asked? what did you find out?…Her answer was that she “didn’t like what she saw”

There are not great jobs in Saskatchewan. Those students who enter professional faculties enter them to do what they see as interesting creative positions. The jobs being created in the SK boom are not those that will drive any ambitious young Sask residents to stay. This pathetic editor of the pathetic sheaf should stop embarrassing the rest of us alumni with his leftist propaganda. We want the jobs that we find in Alberta, BC or Ontario. That is where we can find our self-actualization. Not in socialist tommy-land.
