The Talibanization Of Pakistan

Continues apace

A draft bill adopted in first reading by Pakistan’s National Assembly is now before a standing committee. Tabled by a six-party politico-religious alliance, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal or MMA, the Apostasy Act 2006 which the government sent to the committee would impose the death penalty on Muslim men and life in prison on Muslim women in case they leave Islam. It would also force them to forfeit their property and lose legal custody of children.
[…]
Should the bill become law anyone who leaves Islam for another religion can be sentenced to death (if male) or life in prison ‘until repentance occurs’ (if female).
Section 4 of the bill says that the offender’s own confession in court or the testimony by at least two adults is sufficient grounds for conviction in apostasy cases. Testimony by non Muslims is not however admissible in certain Pakistani courts.

There’s a “three strikes” provision for those saner heads on the chopping block….

Section 5 stipulates that the ‘offender’ must be granted 3 to 30 days to recant the conversion and return to Islam. But even in cases where the person returns to Islam judges can impose two-year sentences as punishment for the original ‘crime’. The accused can convert and reconvert up to three times before the death sentence becomes automatic.

In case it’s slipped your mind lately – Pakistan is a nuclear power.

  1. A wild speculative rushing to conclusions.
Looks like the mad mullahs are consolidating their powers using the Saudi*s method.
The Saudi *in-crowd* controls the oil wealth and keeps every citizen-slave in the country in line with terror tactics using the *Religious Police*.
There is a tightening in Iran, as you know. You may have seen stories on Iranians being harassed for wearing *western / modern* dress.
Saw the photo of the woman wearing a burka top thing and jeans. She was getting flak from the Iranian Mullah RPolice.
Now Pakistan is tightening up? I don*t like it one bit. Pakistan has used the N threat with India.
They hate India because of their Western business ties and development. India is surprisingly computer intense and will never revert any suffocating burkha fundamentalist religion from Pakistan.= TG

  2. Sigh. Another “moderate” Islamic country…
Pakistan is 97% Muslim. So I guess having medieval laws is not too surprising.
Malaysia and Indonesia (60% and 88% Muslim respectively) don’t have official death sentences against conversion from Islamic, but seem to be headed in that direction
I wonder when Brampton Ontario will declare apostacy to be punishable by death.

  3. The times just keep getting more interesting, as if they weren’t interesting enough.
Wonder if the price of fallout shelters have risen yet?

  4. nothing new here. the penalty for leaving islam has always been death. does’t matter if it is put in some sort of legal bill. islam has been dangerous for 1400 years and is getting moreso daily.

  5. Well I guess what’s new, or evolving anyway, is the understanding that there is probably no such thing as a moderate Muslim country. Any country where the laws of the land mandate the death penalty for changing your religion is clearly not a place where rational thought is being applied by the majority of the population.
The apologists for Islam would probably have an easier time explaining why it’s not so bad if bearded mobs haul someone into the streets and chop their head of, than having to explain why uniformed policeman armed with warrants can haul someone into a federal jail and chop their head off.
I’m looking forward to hearing CAIR-CAN explain this one.
And how does our government, or any Western government, justify dealing in a”business as usual” manner with the authorities of a country in whom the law states that if a person changes from Islam to Christianity or Judaism or whatever, they should be killed.
And, at what point do we stop importing people who believe this insanity into our land.

  6. Perhaps the civilized world should consider imposing the death penalty for converting to Islam…

  7. don’t worry….when the insane hordes try to apply sharia law in Canada, we will have alby, dressed in his air force low shoes, with a pistol in hand(last time I did ranges with air force types, none of them could hit a barn with a shotgun from 20 feet)holding them off…..or maybe iberia can sing kumbaya, and offer flowers and hugs….oh ya, that will keep the islamonutjobs at bay….when that day happens, all of the pencil necked(i would rather be a red-neck over a pencil neck any day)progressives will be hoping the real men in our society stand up and defend them…..NOT

  8. Remember Pakistan was created as a country to be home to Muslims…..so lets not get too confused when someone gets upset about a state that was created for another religon.
Now personally I dont think states and religons belong together but it exists so have to live with it….including Vatican City and England and Saudi Arabia….oh a Tibet used to be that way.

  9. Given the bad attitude of their PM when he was in Canada…and the fact that they are Taliban sympathic in allowing them to train and regroup in Pakistani strong holds, Id say this regime is totally belligerent to NATO directives in stabilizing the Afghan region.
This latest revelation of radical sympathies enforces the fact our mission in Afghanistan can’t be accomplished until either the politicians or the US do something with Pakistan’s refusal to cooperate in ending Taliban resistance launched from their jurisdiction.

  10. stephen, the fact that Pakistan was created for Muslims isn’t the point; the point is that the Islam that they are promoting is not functional within a modern global, industrial world.
State religion, with an authoritarian enforcement to ‘believe’ is functional only within a non-progressive society that rejects thought, debate, questions and change. The West viewed heretics to the Christian (Catholic) religion in a similar manner – but that was pre-industrial Europe of the 10th century.
Islam, in its medieval mode, rejects the individual, and effectively locates the human as a pawn of the state authoritry. Elections in Pakistan will become a sham, for the voting choices will be controlled by the imams.
What seems to be happening, is an ‘axis’ of Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, where the tribal leaders are trying to retain political and economic power by using religion to muzzle and control the population.

  11. I largely agree with ET: this is another replay of the old battle between liberty and the right of self determination on the one hand, and state imposed conformity, with religion as the sanctioning element, on the other. What remains to be seen is whether enough people in the West still believe in those old Enlightenment values to fight for them.

  12. What would the Dark Ages look like if the country had nuclear weapons, jets, computers and all the other superficial accouterments of modern civilization?
It would look like Pakistan, our “ally” in the “War on Terror”.
(I put War on Terror in quotation marks because IMO we are not fighting a war on terror. We are fighting a War on Islamofascism. Our enemy is Islamofascism. Terrorism is merely the enemy’s strategy and tactic.
As someone else has wisely pointed out, it’d be like calling WW2 the “War on Blitzkrieg”, rather than the truth that it was the War on Naziism, with Blitzkrieg being Naziism’s military strategy and tactic.)

  13. This isn’t being driven by the Pakistani government at all. They are responding to pressures from the Taliban and other like-minded religious zealots. The government is trying to appease these Islamists in an effort to avoid an insurgency. The government is very afraid of the popular support the Islamists have and of the growing power of the Taliban.
This appeasement will of course backfire. It will only encourage the Islamists to demand more power, with the ultimate goal of establishing an Islamic theocracy.

  14. “In case it’s slipped your mind lately – Pakistan is a nuclear power.”
KANUPP is one of two nuclear power stations in Pakistan and is owned and operated by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. KANUPP is the oldest CANDU power reactor currently operating

  15. Why not take their women and children.
Loosen the restrictions on immigration for women from all sharia law shit holes.
    They can bring their children.
All must leave the veil and their wahabist 7th century past, restrict or end immigration by males from the same shitholes.
Also NATO should NEVER enter a conflict where the outcome could be an election wherein sharia law is a contender.
When Iran/Pakistan/Syria/Lebannon are attacked, Canada should participate, but with the constitution of Newiran/Newpakistan/Newsyria/Newlebannon in our hand before we fire the first cruise.
Lets finish spraypainting the desert with these Koranimals first in Afstan and Iraq.
The more exploding wahabists video on Youtube, the more the free world understands what’s at stake.

  16. Hm, nuclear Pakistan. Time to get working on a new version of the Arrow. Might be nice to be able to intercept them before they get here, eh?
And maybe if we ask REAL nice the Americans will let us play under their SDI umbrella. That’s one of the most incredibly stupid Mr. Dithers moves ever, rejecting a free missile shield from the Yanks. Way to go Paul!

  17. Dave in Pa. said:”(I put War on Terror in quotation marks because IMO we are not fighting a war on terror. We are fighting a War on Islamofascism. Our enemy is Islamofascism. Terrorism is merely the enemy’s strategy and tactic.”
Exactly. And the old Patton verse comes to mind: ” The idea is not to die for your country, but to make the other poor bastard…”
The answer for Islamofasism: a third eye for each, .45 inches in diameter. You have helped the poor bastard find Allah, and also have aided his/her *retirement* from a career in terrorism. I’m afraid that is the only thing that will work.

  18. The timing is not unexpected. They think they received enough firepower from the US to be on their own.

  19. Just remembered those 3 ABC guys that were released after converting to Islam. What ever happened to them, are they still with ABC and do they practise Islam.

  20. The more exploding wahabists video on Youtube, the more the free world understands what’s at stake.
We have become so pacified as a nation that until there’s and attack in our own backyard ,most Canadians will never understand whats at stake.I also belive that the first few incidents will only be fuel for the “give peace a chance crown” who will see it as brought upon ourselves.

  21. In case it’s slipped your mind lately – Pakistan is a client state of the USA.
Kind of like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq, and like Iran (pre Mullahs), Iraq (pre Kuwait invasion) and the Mujahideen (pre Taliban) used to be. But I’m sure nothing bad will come of it.
