An Insider’s Account of Friday’s Cairo Debriefing;
It is now abundantly clear that the core leadership of Canada’s so-called anti-war movement consists of obsessive Israel-haters, apologists for theocratic fascism, and admirers of the death cult Hamas and the totalitarian Hezbollah.
Nobody can accuse me of “smearing the peace movement” anymore. The leadership of the Canadian Peace Alliance, the Toronto Stop the War Coalition and other such groups now openly boasts of its progress in converting the “antiwar” movement in Canada into a joint venture with the Islamist far right.
Last Friday in Toronto, these people made a full and self-congratulatory accounting of themselves and the promises they made at the recent “anti-war” convergence in Cairo (“Towards an International Alliance Against Imperialism and Zionism”), attended by some of the world’s most foul jihadists, Islamists and Jewish-conspiracy fetishists.

I could not agree with you more.
KC, Tenebris is completely correct.
Although Joe Lieberman would probably be a centrist in Canada, he is definitely on the left in the United States.
He is a principled liberal, and a hawk on the war, and so conservatives have some appreciation for him.
However, his voting record on all taxation and social matters as well as other issues on the left-right divide are definitely on the far left of the spectrum as we consider things in the United States.
He also gained some kudos from conservatives because he is one of the rarest of Democrats, an independent thinker who does not automatically fall into lockstep with the Democratic Party.
It is unfortunate that we do not see more integrity and independence of thought from other American Democratic politicians.

WC, there is no shame in re-evaluating your friends and making a change for the better. = TG
KC and exile, I resent your comments that people on the centre-right/right cannot distinguish different left groups. People just use “left” as a general word that can take on different meanings depending on the context. If we’re talking about Marxists and I say “left”, another person should be able to distinguish between a “left” Marxists and a “left” Liberal.
I also really dislike the continual association of the right with people in Western Canada or small towns and with Christianity. Making this continual association is the same as making the association between everyone in the anti-war movement and radical Islam (as you are accusing Kate of doing, but I assume she is well aware of the distinctions and was merely pointing out specific organizations that were). I’m a conservative (well more Libertarian but I vote Conservative) and as are many people I know. None of them live in small towns (we live in Toronto), none are religious (Christian or otherwise) and some are atheists (myself being one of them). So please, lets all stop the generalizations, they’re really pretty lame.
We hate our fellow man so much that we’ll refuse to torture them on general principle.

Oh, really? Tell that to the vast majority of Protestant kids in Ontario who aren’t allowed to celebrate Christmas, Easter, or Valentine’s Day in their schools, despite making up a majority of the students in the school. If you’re lucky enough to be Catholic, you get to choose a school system that reflects your values (which I don’t object to, since they make up nearly 50% of the students in the province), but if you’re a Protestant, you’re out of luck; check your religion at the door.
On the other hand, Muslims demand the right to wear the symbols of their religion, even when that possibly endangers the public. For example, if I walked into a bank with a mask over my face, I’d probably be stopped and questioned at the very least, but Islamic women expect to be able to do so. And Ontario allows them to do so. So, it appears, to paraphrase Orwell, “All religions are equal, but some religions are more equal than others.”
In Ontario, at least, whenever there has been a disagreement between the Christian view and the atheist view lately, the atheist view wins. How you can consider this “equality” is beyond me.
