Major Garrett is now a reporter for the Fox cable news channel. In 1994 he was a political reporter for the Washington Times . He came down and followed Fred on a tour of East Tennessee. After a hard day of campaigning we were sitting on the front porch and I asked him what he thought.
He described an incident from that afternoon. They stopped at a convenience store in Sevier County. They left the red truck in the parking lot; there was no one else there. They got soft drinks and Fred spent some time talking to the store clerk. When they came outside, cars and trucks were pulling into the parking lot and people were gathered around the truck. Fred pulled the tail gate down, got up and gave a short speech, and everyone hooted and hollered.
Garrett said he had covered political campaigns all over the country that summer and the usual problem for politicians was trying to find a crowd and jump in front of it. He was amazed that Fred could conjure one up in an empty parking lot in rural Sevier County.
(Ala – look what you started .)

I must say I did not know that Fred Thompson was a former lawyer and Senator. I just assumed he was doing the Arnie thing.
I stand corrected and will be watching his bid with interest and a slightly humbler attitude.
As an aside, what’s with you sagacious, domanatrix type conserative gals. Precognition to?
Syncro
OT have you heard that Quebeckers don’t want to fight in Afganistan. TO Sun. Hell they won’t fight anywhere
I dunno…this guy has a “scary” tag on him…didn’t I read somewhere where Thompson used to be a Nazi and walk around with a copy of Mein Kampf in his hand? ROTFLMAO
Fred is my choice. Has been all along.
Fred is much more intelligent than most give him credit for, since most don’t really know Fred. Listen to him:listen very closely. Looks honest, sounds honest, probably IS honest. Sounds and looks like the grandfather dispensing good advive based on a lifetime of REAL experience.
Fred is also a very savy politician. He is waiting, and patiently studying the pros and cons of a run against the rest of the field. My guess is he is watching the rest of the field shoot their toes off and will step in when they have all crippled themselves in this longer-than-necessary primary run. He will be the breath of fresh air and the voice of reason that all will welcome after tiring of the droning and rhetoric of those that have occupied the stage up to now.
The forerunners will become like that mysteriously-disappearing-bird. That’s the one who flys in ever decreasing circles, until it flies up it’s own butt, and disappears.
Who would be his VP choice. McCain will be 72/3 in 2008. He would be 76 is he won and went for re-election. Will the US elect such an oldie, I doubt it. Is age will be used against him, and as was mentioned on FNS today, he is too unpredictable on many issues.
I dunno…this guy has a “scary” tag on him…didn’t I read somewhere where Thompson used to be a Nazi and walk around with a copy of Mein Kampf in his hand? ROTFLMAO
that did happen…when he was an actor in a show about 20 years ago.
Fred Thompson’s VP choice will be Bruce Willis.
Anyone else notice how Newt’s dropped off the radar as of a few weeks back?
Newt’s the reason God made Cabinet posts, I guess.
Why not: Rudy/Fred? I personally prefer Mitt Romney, as a socon, but can he really win? He just doesn’t have Rudy’s name recognition.
I have nothing against this Thompson guy. And he IS so-o-o believable!
The problem is we, or the US electorate, only know him as an actor. His expertise is, well, fiction. What else can he do?
I’m just asking a question, but really what does he offer? The impression of,well, honesty? A characteristic that is desperately sought after these days?
Either way, the voters , will see what they want to see.
