On January 4th, the UK’s Met Office predicted 2007 to be the warmest ever, due to an El Niño weather event in the Pacific:
An extended warming period, resulting from an El Niño weather event in the Pacific Ocean, will probably push up global temperatures, experts forecast.
Februrary 28th, less than 60 days later, NOAA Climate Prediction Center center says:
as the 2006-2007 El Niño faded, surface and subsurface ocean temperatures have rapidly decreased. Recently, cooler-than-normal water temperatures have developed at the surface in the east-central equatorial Pacific, indicating a possible transition to La Niña conditions.
50 and 100 year projections remain unchanged, with no decrease in confidence. Thou shalt not question the climate models. The science is SETTLED.
In other news, the Suzuki effect makes its appearance. There is a broad consensus in the widely known and powerful Gore effect, but the Suzuki effect has been less thoroughly studied. But as Suzuki wraps up his Flakes on a Plane Tour he will be greeted in the capital with a heavy snow warning, bringing snow, freezing rain, ice pellets, strong gusting winds and near zero visibility.
We’ll have to study this effect further. This would be a fine topic for a PhD thesis, I think.

“Greenhouse gases cause heating, while aerosols cause cooling,” Professor Folland told BBC News.
Ok then, we’ll bring back the 70’s and Disco. The hairspray alone ought to solve the warming problem.
The Gore Effect. A classic!
Samuel L. Suzuki? I personally see Che Suzuki in the photo but we all know Hollywood doesn’t lie.
I’m stating the obvious, but this whole thing is starting to look and feel more and more like a religion.
If Suzuki and his band of socialist fools want to have their religion that’s fine, as long as I don’t have to pay for it.
I think pointing out the deep hypocrisy of the global warming cult is a good tactic. I would hope that the average Canadian is taking them less and less seriously as time goes by.
Global warming is a farce.
If this keeps up we*ll all freeze to death.
6 below this morning. Mid Vancouver Island. Spring is usually sprung by March 1st around here.
Global poisoning is not a farce, however. China and India have lost count of their coal fired Gen. plants.
They need our clean coal Tech. and pronto! = TG
Those models don’t fare too well, do they?

Anyone catch the flake yuppie lawyer,on ctv newsnet today?Martin Wagner..a “lawyer for Earth Justice”..stated GW is a human rights issue!!! Here come the lawsuits kiddies! Just another metrosexual looking to make a name for himself!
This just in from the University of Waterloo
February Coldest on Record
“The University of Waterloo Weather Station says its the coldest February they have ever tracked.”
Welcome to the Canadian Winter.
Southern Ontario is known for its mild winters. Dec.-Jan. were very mild this year, with springlike temperatures that had Jack Layton and others shrieking “global warming”! But late Jan.-Feb we got hit with a deep freeze of consistently below-normal temperatures that lasted for more than 3 weeks, followed by 3 blizzards, the latest of which is walloping us as I write. And another one’s forecast for next week…
This extreme cold and snow is NOT normal for our area, but do you hear anyone shrieking “global cooling”?!
Personally, I blame the Academy for giving that Oscar nod to Al Gore.
Yeah Sammy, I was accidentally watching CTV news at 6 and caught that nutter, he thinks the ice in the arctic has become so weird and unnatural that Inuit hunters can’t read it anymore and are falling through the ice and drowning. It’s amazing… or maybe stunning?
I am a professional scientist with over three decades of experience in the field of computer modelling. For those of you who are actually interested in making our lives better, as opposed to, say, arguing for argument’s sake, there is in my opinion an excellect essay that you may wish read on the matters of this thread, by Jerome J. Schmitt, at the American Thinker, available here:

Numerical Models, Integrated Circuits and Global Warming Theory

Vannevar Bush’s seminal 1944 policy paper unleashed the Federal government’s unprecedented post-war investment in R&D in the hard sciences and engineering. Science was seen as the way to avoid (or at least win) another catastrophic war.
The golden era of federal funding resulted in unprecedented employment opportunities for hard science Ph.D.s. Fresh graduates could easily find tenure track employment at universities expanding their hard sciences program. The enormous dividends from this investment make up our modern technological world. However, the munificence of the federal funding caused a certain, shall we say, insouciance about resources: “Why use lead when gold will do?” became an informal motto at Lawrence Livermore National Lab.
Inevitably, the growth in congressional funding tapered off and in the late 1980s the competition for R&D sponsorship began to tighten. Fresh Ph.D.s often had to look to the private sector for employment (heaven forefend!). Grant writers were required to start highlighting the potential “practical payoffs” of their proposed work. Since there was little need for better atomic weapons in the post-cold war era, High Energy Physics lost its central status in the funding universe. Many mathematical physicists became refugees to allied fields (some of them even became “quants” on Wall Street). But others found employment elsewhere, including in climate science.
In this competitive environment, one can imagine climate modelers justifying their work by citing the possibility of global change, the further study of which requires, of course, “more research”. One can further imagine that in the inchoate communication between university researcher, funding agency, congressional staffer and congressmen that “possibility” eventually became “probability” and then “probability” morphed into “certainty” of global warming, especially if there was potential for political advantage.
This has resulted in an inadvertent funding-feedback mechanism that now resonates in largely unjustified alarm and also seeks to quash scientific dissidents who indirectly threaten to throttle the funding spigots.
The practical experience of numerical modeling in allied fields such as semiconductor process modeling should cause us to question the claimed accuracy for Global Climate Models. The UN’s distortion of historical climate data should further undermine our faith in climate models because such models can only be “tested” against accurate historical data.
In my view, we should adopt the private sector’s practice of placing extremely limited reliance on numerical models for major investment decisions in the absence of confirming test data, that is, climate data which can be easily collected just by waiting.

Heh. We received 5 inches of snow here in (normally balmy) Delta, BC overnight. Rough guess, about the sixth snowstorm we have had this season (average is usually less than one per year). Given that the daffodils are up about a foot now, it looks odd.
But….it’s WEATHER, not climate.
Kiss my butt, Algore…
Oh and I’d love an opportunity to ask Dr. Fruitfly if the “imminent threat” to the polar bear population is exemplified by the fact that we now have more polar bears than ever…and a 25% increase in population over the last decade…
I have two Educational Assistants in my class, ordinary, working Canadians. (Actually, like me.)
The other day, when the UNPREDICTED WINTER weather, we could see from our class, seemed to stick its tongue out at “global warming”, I took a risk. I mentioned to them that we couldn’t, apparently, predict the WEATHER for a twelve hour period, let alone the CLIMATE for the next century.
Both my “ordinary” Canadian colleagues altogether concurred. (I was steeling myself in case one of them said, “Oh NO, global warming’s a REALLY serious problem!” For professional collegiality, I’d have demurred. Well, I’d have nicely said I don’t actually agree.)
I felt vastly relieved and encouraged that these two practical ladies haven’t been hoodwinked by the Sukookie propaganda. The hypnotism isn’t working!
Seems like my suggestion that a hypnotist go to Ont to break the spell worked. 40% for the conservatives, in a poll taken before the terror bill vote. Could the hypnotist been suzuki with his over the top rantings and using and abusing children to spread his message. Perhaps it was the exposure as a hypocrit. Whatever it was, keep up the good work ont voters. How many Ont seats do the conservatives have, and what was their percentage of support last election. I think Layton will support the budget without any blackmail after seeing the results today. Hear dion saying PMSH is trying to force an election. Will he vote for the budget to save his job as leader of the opposition. I was so hoping Layton would be using that exercise room, if only to tire himself out so he would shut up.
The only GHG is coming out of Suzuki’s ass!!!

U.N. chief: Global warming akin to war (:p=)
UNITED NATIONS, Mar. 1 (UPI) — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said this generation’s battle against global warming is equal to his generation’s battle against a nuclear winter….”For my generation, coming of age at the height of the cold war, fear of a nuclear winter seemed the leading existential threat on the horizon,” the secretary-general told the students. …-

There was another journalism mental midget on CTV news this evening….she made the unbelievably stupid comment when she claimed that global warming was causing an increase in tornadoes, hurricanes (really?) and (wait for it) tsunamis! Tsunamis for God sake!! Now that shows the “depth” of the understanding of the media of this issue. Unbelievable stupidity.
I’m going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that there is arguably at least a degree to which it might be the case that what we are observing on the environmental front at this juncture in history is not so much a matter of “religion”, as some have (I think somewhat justifiably) argued, rather, it is largely a matter of Fashion.
It is currently fashionable to be concerned about the environment, independent of whether or not one has any idea about the relative merits of the various options that are available to us for our use in managing the space-time we occupy, and independent of the vast majority of us who are honestly concerned about not soiling our nest, in the same sense that “fashion shows” are independent of the clothes we wear.
In other words: the meme has escaped the confines of reality.
Yet, the thing about fashion is that it tends to be an indication of the decline and fall of the meme. Those who are actually productive do not depend on fashion, for them, form follows function. It is under these conditions that comments like “global warming causes tsunamis”, and the various other sorts of hyper-rhetorical the-sky-is-falling tripe, start to cause we the people to say, hey, wait a minute, you fashionable people are actually serving us up a steaming hot load of bullshit, aren’t you?
You are confusing weather and climate.
El Nino and La Nina are associated with weather patterns not climate change. To the best of my knowledge climate scientists have not been able to or even claim to be able to model either of those events.
Rant all you want about some of the BS because it is out there but don’t pick the wrong analogies.
CTV’s Jill Macyshon just came on and cited recent tsunamis and earthquakes as proof (to some) that global warming is in high gear. She said it as though natural disasters didn’t exist prior to Algore’s movie. She said it as though changes in weather patterns have an effect on the stresses of the earth’s plates. What a genius.
In response, I say…. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
From now on, I’m blaming the fact that the Leafs stink on GLOBAL WARMING. If I don’t feel like going to work, it’s CLIMATE CHANGE’s fault. Can’t, um, perform? You got it… GLOBAL WARMING.
Funnier than all of this… after the obligatory GLOBAL WARMING freak-out story at the top of the news… the same talking heads did 20 minutes on today’s snow storms and the deep freeze that has gripped Canada for the past two months.
After Lloyd and company finished preaching the Green Gospel, the local CFTO gang lead off with… you guessed it… astronaut Roberta Bondar teaching kids about the evils of global warming.
What a joke. I can’t wait for another big important world-altering story… something on a par with the passing of Anna Nicole Smith… to knock GLOBAL WARMING off my news for a few more days.

You are correct. The Bennifer effect is in play. So what’s the next big thing? Asteroids?

I am not sure how people can justify denying global climate due to human activities by claiming that the “climate has always been changing” and “the climate has a cyclic pattern” one day and then the next claim that climate change is a hoax because we have a cold spell in Western Canada in the middle of winter (i.e. the local climate has cycled downwards for a couple of days)? It doesn’t work both way folks.
and it isn’t simply human caused climate change that is the problem it is the fact that we have increased the RATE of climate change over the past 100 years or so…..
Sean S.
Can you quantify the rate? Can you corelate the significance of said rate. What would happen if 2007 is one of the colder years on record? Anomally? Statistical varience?
Syncro
Global warming may simply be long term climatic change.
Global poisoning / pollution is real enough, yet no one talks about it.
Thousands of Coal fired Gen plants in China and India and new ones added at an ever increasing pace. Clean coal tech is available and we could export it.
Coal fired effluent is carcenogenic, just as are asphalt and black driveway sealer fumes.
There are thousands of other poisons dumped into environments and oceans every day.
Global warming is just a handy smokescreen. = TG
when the wind in southern alberta blew for long periods the indians sent the strongest braves to the top of Cheif Mountain to talk to the wind gods, they would have a chat and tell him to cool it a bit, well suzkookie and gore prove there is no evolution. The msm just falls in line with them, oh lets scare everyone, sells more papers.
I’ve changed my mind about the non-stop coverage of supposed Global Warming in the media.
Looking at the latest Canadian federal polling numbers, I’m all for it. In fact, I hope they kick it into the next gear.
Although the MSM’s intent was/is to kneecap the Conservatives… thinking that people who were scared of melting icecaps would come down on the side of the Liberals and Dion the Jolly Green Giant… the result has been much different.
Instead, the fearmongering has given rise to the Green Party, which is carving the left side off of the NDP and the Liberal vote.
Sweet.
The longer the MSM stays at Defcon 5 over Global Warming…. the greater the chance that the left’s vote will be split in 3 and Harper will get a solid majority when the election is called this month.
To the MSM, I say… keep it up!
Yah! Count me in with gwgm. = TG
The Calgary Sun columnist, Licia Corbella, had an interesting perspective on what might happen to the Canadian way of life if Stephane Dion ever becomes Prime Minister and implements Kyoto “by any means necessary” as he has promised to do.

Get ready to hold your side. Soooooo funny.
Suzuki and 5 or six toadies ride east to west across Canada in a 57 passanger, hydro-carbon bus. Telling the naive to be an enviro-nut like him.
For the last couple of kilometers, or so he rides a bike to mile zero of the trans Canada hyway. Stage managed of course, with school children on the sidewalks.
He will now travel all the way back to Ottawa to presumably chide the Prime Minister on global warming.
To go back across the country in 3 days or so, the bus would have to be supercharged with lots of hydro carbons. I presume he will take a jet. Does anyone know if it may be a private jet ??
He will land in Ottawa, for said lecture on global warming, in the middle of a severe, cold snow storm.
The media will have to set aside a block of time for all the one-liners the PM can use here.
I personally know a life time environmentalist who says Suzuki is a fanatic. See above.
Sean S.
This is food for thought,I saw a documentary on the discover channel the other night, it stated that north and south poles magnet fields are changing, poles are shifting, the huge dynamo called earth is going through its usual cycles and is said to be enough to cause climate change, this rebutts the GHG theory and is a much larger possible dilema, why don’t we here more about this????
Truly impressive that the “mean global temperature” could be determined to a resolution of 0.2 degrees C back in 1860! (According to the graph).
I would suggest reading Tim Flannery’s “The Weathermaker’s”. It takes a great deal of scientific literature and distills it down into layman’s terms for the reader. In the process he addresses many of the unintelligible counter arguments posed by skeptics.
That would be where I would point you to Syncro (that or a mountain of primary source research journal articles, but those are really boring to read, trust me).

God is in his Heaven and alls right with the World when we have a major WINTER storm on the 2nd of March in Ottawa, just in time for Susuki and Bus crew finishing up a cross country tour, scaring the kids about global warming and dissing the Prime Minister.
The kicker here is he scheduled a hockey game at an OUTDOOR rink in Ottawa today so he must have lost some hot air somewhere, otherwise there would be no ice.
He lost more than hot air, he lost credibility spewing fumes into the air. He may still win a JUNO award. Al Goreacious won an Oscar for tripe so anything is possible.
Sean S; Tim Flannery’s distillation leaves a lot to be desired.
As we speak, National Geopgraphic’s website has an article on global warming and the melting of icecaps.
On MARS.
I am always amused at the GW fanatics trotting out the usual floods and droughts GW scenario.
They obviously haven’t figured out what causes the floods and droughts (like I did years ago), and until they do, they will subject themselves to ridicule.
Hey, an Enviromonger like Suzuki should remember ‘if a man makes an ass of himself, he should not take it ill if men ride him’.
The prudent investor types usually end up with a comforable life.
The working man, trades ect do well, thank you very much.
The professionals deserve it, considering they go to school half their life.
The basket-weavers end up with,… well, baskets !! Too naive. Too much time spent listening to the ‘snake-oil-salesman’, easy route out and all that.
It is so pathetic when you hear of all the ‘academic types’ who have faithfully followed the fanatics down the garden path. For years. And now are left high and dry and middle aged. Real job applicant resume’ eh ?? Aawwhhh, we’ll get back to ya on that.
Yeah and i can remeber how back in the 70s they were saying the earth would be so poluted that we would all need gas masks to go outside and that all our major cities would be under domes and how doom sayers like EHRLICH were saying that we would have to abandon the coast becuase of the stence of dead fish and how back in the 70s WE HAVE ONLY TEN YEARS LEFT TO SAVE THE PLANET. And we are still doing fane which proves those eco-freaks dont know what their flapping thier big fat pieholes for
