  1. Isn’t Al Gore setting out, with rock stars, on a world tour to sing against ‘global warming’?
Now, that’s a religious hysteria, replete with exhortations and pleas for ‘forgiveness of our sins, O Gaia’.
The sin in question is the West’s inventions and development of industrial production. Gore and his Rock Star Band will be touring the world, singing of Sin and Forgiveness. The ‘forgiveness’ is accomplished by doling out billions in Sin Money to those nations who are busily starting out their era of pollution, by building cheap factories with the money from the West.
In the Kyoto Religion, it’s called Sin and Purification. But it’s called ‘anti-capitalism, anti-globalization, and anti-West’ in Real English.

  2. Honouring Bozo from U2 is a Toronto city council sort of thing since they’re in the business of wasting time and money, it’s surprising when Westerners decide to make themselves look foolish.

  3. I listened to a podcast from Rolling Stone with Jan Wenner interviewing Bono.
Bono had nothing but great things to say about Bush in particular and Republicans in general, much to the consternation of the moonbat Wenner. He compared Clinton’s approach in attempting to lower the cost of AIDS drugs to Africa (which never materialized, although he had more time to do it), to Bush’s commitment and subsequent delivery of free drugs, saving 200,000 lives so far.
He had nothing but praise for Bush. He also made a point about chewing out Dithers.
Towards the end, Wenner sounded disgusted.
I think Bono is doing a good thing and is at least non-partisan.

  5. Any millionaire musician who tells me “I” should pay to fix something, has at least convinced me to use that money which I would have used to buy his records.

  6. Not too many cattle in North Dakota, from my observations, and what cattle there are are mostly dairy.
    Lots of sunflowers, though.
    Also “snow snakes”…

  7. Man, if only Bono had stuck to singing. I can’t even listen to U2 anymore because just thinking about this self-rightous hypocrite makes me sick. And that sucks because they made some good music way back when.

  8. Rex Murphy on Bono
“he’s the self-declared pope of poverty —Uriah Heap with groupies”
( I think Rex is alluding to the original U H, the band probably attracted a different kind of groupie)

  9. MOJO, There is a pile of cattle in North Dakota (especially the western half) and most of them are not of the dairy kind.

  10. Irwin said it above. I give Bono some credit for not being mindlessly anti-American, in an era when it is sexy and oh-so with-it to do so. Paul McCartney too. Look how much credit and adulation the Dixie Chix get for being so incredibly brave as to risk death by criticizing Bush. Bono is also one of the finest singer/songwriters of all time.

  11. at least he puts his money where his mouth is, along with gates and buffet….maybe the elitist hollywood assholes will take a lesson here, quit blaming bush for everything, meet us conservatives in the middle, and accomplish something worthwhile…..and as far as dr fruit fly’s amazing idiot celebrity ghg emitting tour is concerned…..a great big effort for SFA

  12. I had a friend that I went to highschool with (and who subsequently ended up working for the same company I do) that was a very serious musician – had a union card and did studio work and played in various local bands in Toronto for fun and profit. Sadly, he was killed about 10 years ago in a road accident.
However, one of the things I will always remember him saying was that he rarely listened to U2. He had no patience for ‘politically motivated’ bands. He always found them self-serving.
Also, as some have said above, I realllllyyyy hate it when somebody with a ton of money tells me I should sacrifice more of my money to make the world a better place. If Canada and the rest of the world can’t get by with the ridiculous amount of money I already pay in taxes then somebody – not me – is doing something wrong.

  13. Wonder what Bono thinks of the report that money going to africa from canada isn’t doing the job.
I need a list of all the bands etc going on this world tour. I will never buy their records, cds or watch them on tv. Anne Murray going with suzuki on his emmission trip ruined her for me also, and I was a big fan. Are people supposed to pay for these algore concerts, and where is the money going. I heard that the stars were donating their time.

  14. So you don’t like him because a musician friend of yours told you he didn’t like ‘politically motivated’ musicians? That’s some sophistication.
I think its sad artists aren’t aloud to have interests outside of their industry.

  15. Daisy,
It seems your praise for Bono’s “non-partisan” attitude is based on the fact that “He had nothing but praise for Bush”.
At least you didnt claim that, with regards to AIDS, you are non-partisan. Firmly in the Republican camp, I see.
For the rest of you who have nothing better to do than bash Bono, give the guy a break. At least hes trying to do something. Anything. Better than you lot sitting here and throwing bricks at him for daring to try.
As for North Dakota, well, good for the people of North Dakota. They get their 15 min of fame. Doubt North Dakota gets, or deserves, more attention than that.
Why are so many Canadians so concerned about what North Dakota does? I wonder what North Dakota is known for, well, apart from this?

  16. jeremiah – North Dakota opted to make their opinion of celebrity fluff permanent. The “15 min of fame” is what they rejected. Here’s what it’s known for:

I also respect irwin daisy’s opinions more than most, that Bono bothers me more than him, I’m not getting your “firmly in the Republican camp” vs AIDS point. It’s hardly mutually exclusive as Bush committed more AIDS funding to Africa than any other statesman or country. Google it.

  17. penny,
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dakota
Fascinating. Sounds like a really exciting place. They even have golf courses. And a food festival. I bet most Americans wouldnt know what to say if you asked them for interesting, or indeed, any facts about North Dakota.
“I’m not getting your “firmly in the Republican camp” vs AIDS”
I was merely wondering if Daisy would have been as gracious to Bono if he had praised Clinton, too. Or would that have made Bono too partisan.

  18. I think Bono is ok and I think North Dakota is beautiful.
I’ve seen Bono and U2 play many times. When he was a spring chicken he was a passionate guy and cared about people – you can see it in performances (you worried that he would hurt himself or burn himself out).
Over the years, as U2 became successful, Bono learned to work with and deal with politians.
He’s apolitical because his main concern is poverty and AIDS in Africa and he knows that he has to work through the changing political processes throughout the first world to try and help Africans. I also think he is true blue in what he is doing.
All awards and award shows concern advertisements and money generating things. But they do tend to recognize acheivement in the end. Bono might be turned down this year in North Dakota but who knows, in 5 years he might be recognized throughout the world for acheiving something important.

  19. They still know how to spot a flake in the Dakotas.
If Bono wants to wipe out 3rd world debt ( made through fiat loans) the first stop is the IMF and world bank…hang out at the UN baby!! There’s where the profiteers reside! IMF/WB loans are guranteed by the city of London banking cartel….but I doubt the city of London banking cartel will recind a penny of debt…endebting helpless 3rd world populations by loaning money to unstable despots has been their stock in trade for 2 centuries.
As long as Bono goes grandstanding and seeking debt elimination in all the wrong places, the London cartel is safe from exposure…good work Bono…what do you get for being a banker’s monkey boy?

  20. “At least you didnt claim that, with regards to AIDS, you are non-partisan. Firmly in the Republican camp, I see.”
    And,
“I was merely wondering if Daisy would have been as gracious to Bono if he had praised Clinton, too. Or would that have made Bono too partisan.”
Attempting to pick a fight based on conjecture again, are you Jeremiah?
The fact is, Clinton was a failure on this issue, Bush wasn’t, and you my friend, are once again a loser for all to see.
I humbly suggest you don’t pick fights with those above your intellectual weight.

  22. Just how many hours of kilowatt hours of electricty will HOT AIR AL and his wackys be using during their concert? How about getting some of those hot air balloons to be there with HEY AL GORE HERES YOUR HOT AIR or how about one designed to look like AL GORE and it will come with its own HOT AIR

  23. “The Police’s reunion world tour will belch as much CO2 into the atmosphere as 30 million SUVs idling on a -25C morning for as long as it takes to get out of Starbucks with coffee and a breakfast cookie. That’s the same amount of carbon as would be released by burning 80,000 hectares of rain forest 70 times…”
    – The National Post
I suppose if you multiply this by several bands, you’ll get an answer, spurwing plover.
