Is Liberal-friendly Jim Patterson setting up Telecaster to run interference in a future election campaign ?
[W]hen the Liberals rolled out their attack ads, claiming Stephen Harper was going to put “soldiers in our streets”. It was absurd, and it backfired.
The point is Telecaster*, run by Jim Patterson, didn’t censor them, even though they used images of Stephen Harper without his permission.
But when the Conservatives produced a response to those attack ads — showing video clips of Liberal MPs admitting their own attack ads had gone too far — Telecaster censored the ads. Telecaster ordered the Conservative ads off the air.
The story gets worse: Telecaster yanked the ads after a complaint from the CBC, because it was their footage that captured the MPs making those statements. The CBC actively intervened to knock Conservative ads off the air. And the Telecaster censor, who just happened to be a major Liberal donor, was happy to comply.
Isn’t that a cosy little family?
Has the CBC ever complained about the Liberals using images of Conservative politicians taken from CBC cameras? Don’t be ridiculous. The CBC is a wing of the Liberal Party — the left wing.
When it’s not busy trying to yank Conservative ads off the air, it’s running Liberal propaganda using tax dollars — long infomercials, thinly disguised as political talk shows or “documentaries.”
All this came out in the open last week when Telecaster refused to allow the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association to run a TV ad briefly showing Harper’s own image — even though the CRFA owned the footage themselves.

nothing but nothing beats Liberal incest for national embarrassment
You mean Jim Patterson, not Pattison, right?
That guy should be immediately relieved of his duties. No doubt his contract will have a HUGE severance clause, as it seems all Liberal patronage appointees have.
once the CPC nails a majority, they will be fully justified in instituting a full-scale purge of all the librano hacks out there in lala land….the unemployment rate might jump short-term, but it will be worth it….I shall know that we are moving in the right direction when the price of upscale housing in Ottawa has declined 20%
Stephen Taylor had some fine coverage at his blog a couple of days ago.
That Liberal network certainly is pervasive.
This simply says that the “natural governing party” is in dire straits, and they know it. Harper is a master strategist compared to the backroom Liberal outdated hacks.
Mr. Patterson may find his company irrelevent with a Harper majority.
“That Liberal network certainly is pervasive.”
Steven: I would call it perverse.

Running election style ads before there is an election is being sneaky to avoid election spending restrictions. The public is not as stupid as the Conservatives like to think and these ads are going to go over as well as the one mocking Chretien’s facial features.
What better time to remind Canadians that Canadian left wing MSM and the journos who toil there were the enablers of a decade of Liberal government malfeasance.
Eventually the rot became so evident even MSM had to carry the stories of the corruption.
Sadly the habit is so ingrained that it will take a a major outside competitor such as FOX Cable to bring some unbiased balance to Canadian news dissemination.

“Running election style ads before there is an election is being sneaky to avoid election spending restrictions. The public is not as stupid as the Conservatives like to think and these ads are going to go over as well as the one mocking Chretien’s facial features.”
Mocking screwface’s features is nothing compared to this. Have you even seen them? Liberals telling us how they couldn’t get it done. Liberals attacking Liberals fool.
Hopefully, the public isn’t as stupid as the liberals think.
BTW, tories have no choice but to go with these ads, the media IS giving Dion a free ride.
and yes its Jim Patterson not Jimmy Pattison of vancouver.
Iberia, will you promise that all election ads by the conservatives will be allowed to air. It is the media bias that is being exposed, and dion and the liberals.
Didn’t this same media go beserk re Harper’s firewall letter.
Completely off topic, how do we get jvd to get a decent hair style. Her and Judy Rebic must use the same electrical socket.
“Running election style ads before there is an election is being sneaky to avoid election spending restrictions. The public is not as stupid as the Conservatives like to think and these ads are going to go over as well as the one mocking Chretien’s facial features.”
Honestly, most of the information in the ads are things that the average voter should be made aware of. If the Liberals want everyone to believe that they’re a better party for the environment than the Conservatives they have to answer the one obvious question “If the Koyto Accord and Green House Gasses are really so important why did you do nothing for 13 years?”
Anyone know the score?

“Running election style ads before there is an election is being sneaky to avoid election spending restrictions”
Do you believe this is the first time this has been done?
Take a walk down memory lane to pre-2004 federal election. Then Prime Minister Paul Martin used it against Stephen Harper and helped to paint Harper as a scary person with a hidden agenda, until he redefined himself.
I’ve talked about this today on my own blog.
The difference between these adds is they don’t try to depict some secret agenda, they just show Liberals talking about Dion.
With regard to the running of early election style ads being a bad thing.
Maybe you just don’t get it…we do want to win.
This isn’t about playing straight man to the MSM so that the Natural Governing party can slide up to the trough again, this is about wiping them out and hopefully the trough with them.
Good on the Conservatives. The crap shown was pulled from the news immediatly after it ran and never shown again. If it had of been the Conservatives that pulled that kind of stuff, we’d know every word by heart, it would have been run that often.
Go Mr. Harper!!!!
Pat
Fools talking about other fool. How come they didnt mention lberia?
Thanks for catching that – fixed.

So let me see if I have this straight.
A bunch of private companies, way back in 1973 or so, set up a a voluntary, self-governing, commercial, infomercial and public service announcement clearance committee. There is no government participation or, as far as I’m aware, any government interaction.
The private companies’ voluntary, self-governing committee appoints a private individual, among several others, to chair. That individual happens to have donated a few hundred dollars over the years to one party.
An oil industry company tries to buy ads that are critical of the Conservative Party, highlighting promises that Harper made during the election and want to make sure that he keeps his promise, and the head private individual appointed by the private corporations to be in charge of their private review committee decides that this critical ad must follow the same rules and procedures of all ads.
And this is the latest Vast Liberal Media Conspiracy???
Are we stretching for straws now or what?!?!
It’s tough being in government, isn’t it. Actually having to answer for your own side’s broken promises and failures. Much easier to go into conspiracy mode.
And no orchestration about it at all. No. No.
TRMW forgot to highlight just how very much power all those private corporations have given to a single “Liberal-friendly” man.
Jim, did you ever think you had so much binding, irrefutable, absolute power over all of those ads and over all of those private corporations?
This is all a joke, right?
It’s one of the oldest trick in the book to paint anyone who might possibly be a problem as being in the pocket of the devil/the rebels/the communists/the other political party. I’ll admit the Conservatives are being a bit more creative here than in the past but, then, they’d have to be to make this seem credible.
Ted
I would not care what the CBC said or did – perverse, pervasive, plebeian, piddly-pooper…- if that left wing wacko people hater outfit were not working on my dime!
I watch them only to laugh at them or to make sure they are not spewing out and out lies about foreign affairs, the people of Canada, the political outfits, and their experts with their big ‘truths’are usually agenda driven hacks. I write to CBC/CTV if they are guilty of lies and/or slanderous bias. I write often.
The job of watching msm to keep tabs on them is a drain on my good natured temperament; I would love to never have to see any of those public servants on my TV screen or in my newspaper ever again but the future of Canada depends on the return of Justice. It is not too hard for me to do my bit, considering the stakes.
This is a very wealthy nation and the msm want all of us to throw away our treasure with both hands – bottom feeding and top starvation – production is punished, money-for-nothing is approved and admired. We did not become a wealthy nation without effort or cost – the pioneers of Canada lived without infrastructure or welfare – some people starved, some froze to death, some died in foreign wars but they had PRIDE in themselves for their accomplishments.
Teachers are not teaching the History of Canada in schools; they are as left wing nutty as msm, for economic reasons, so Canadian people are not aware of who they are or what they stand for and what they will not stand for; the msm and the education system have created a void.
People like Jimmy like this lack of self respect in potential car purchasers since the lost souls of this land often identify themselves through the car they drive, the money they have and/or the house in which they hang their hat. They have not been taught to appreciate anything else! A people that identifies with consumption rather than production has lost it’s way.
The Conservative Party of Canada and PMSH is changing the tone and thus, changing the way Canadians view themselves (suddenly Canadians have been told about the things they can do rather than about things they can not do!); we are standing up straighter and feeling better about ourselves. The left is panicking and they are squealing. Liberanos/dipper types rely on thee ‘helpless liddle me’ mindset to stay in power so they do not like the Conservative Party of Canada telling the people of this country that we can accomplish on our own.
When we rise above seeking constant approval from ‘them’ (msm) before we do or say anything we will be back on the road back to prosperity and health.
For example, my Grandad would not allow any tax men on his property; if the gument wanted to see him they wrote him requesting that he stop at their office; he went to see them at his convenience. The gument people made the mistake of driving up to his house once, my grandad told them to leave, when they refused he blew out two for their tires with a .22 and hauled their car off his property with a team of horses. He left them at the edge of his property with two flat tires. They never came back. They were trespassers under the BNA act. The taxmen knew he had Property Rights on his side – Turdo killed the BNA Act for a reason; to cripple citizens. We need to keep nagging and squawking at Politicians until they are forced to address the return of Property Rights to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, IMO.
Need some hits on your blog Ted?
By the way is Cerberus guarding the doors to keep us in Liberal Hell?
The deep stench of the Liberal bureaucracy wafts up to the surface from a seemingly bottomless cesspool. But there’s another one. Patterson and his Liberal scumbagdom, Telecasters. Imagine all the rest of the public trough leeches attempting to slither away when the Conservatives get a majority.
But they’ll know who they are by the slimy trail left behind.
It appears Kate is following in Janke’s footsteps by implying that Telecaster will “censor” non-Liberal friendly ads because it is “headed” by Jim Patterson, a person who donated some money to the Liberal party.
In other words…claiming the media has a “Liberal Bias”.
However, one of the current crop of Conservative ads dissing Dion has apparently appeared on CTV NewsNet, one of the stations under the Telecaster umbrella. This causes me to ask…did Patterson “forget” to “censor” the ad, or, more likely, the claims of “Liberal Bias” are mere hype?
DDT: Nope. Kinda shut that blog thing down for now. Sorry. I’m actually trying to address the substance or rather the lack of substance in the accusation.
Ted
It isn’t a conspiracy. It’s a default setting.
Censorship is always wrong, be it telecaster, crtc, canadian content, election gag laws, or whatever.
Why is there no effective protection of free speech in Canada?
Personally, I miss the odd comment by Spurwing Plover.A breath of fresh air when things got a little heated over here.
He always had a succinct, if not particularly cogent thought to add to most comments.
Are you still with us SP?
Quit calling them attack ads, call them CRITICAL ads showing dion and his dream team attacking each other. Newman again interrupting Baird, and saying sorry, I interrupt everyone. Is he getting the message. As for the censored ad/uncensored ad, it shows Harper in a good light, talking about the environment pre Jan 23. Funny how libs and cbc turn everything around. Susan Smith is the lib spokesman today on Newman. Actually the bloc and ndp spokesman said the ads were factual.
Susans response was something about the dripping from icicles are really the sweat from Harpers brow. And, Newman can’t remember any time that the liberals attacked Harper before the election was called. Bloc response, they tried to make cdns believe he would eat babies. They did nothing but try to paint him with a hidden agenda, horrible person etc. NDP also agreed with that. And of course the conservative guy says, wearing green scarfs and naming a dog kyoto doesn’t cut it. I predict that if dion starts to get bad press, the ndp and bloc will do everything in their power to assist his fall from grace and support the government.
Mary T. Has hit the nail on the head.
It is very hard to rewrite History Ted, but the Lieberals keep trying. If you actually read the post you would notice that it is a track record of what actually happened, with the obvious conclusion. You know the walks like a duck, talks like a duck song don’t you….
Kate is just trying to expose the slimy underbelly of the Media process as it works here in Canada so we understand that all is not as it seems. It isn’t fair and balanced reporting and hasn’t been for a long time now. I know it hurts as your idols are exposed as having feet of clay, but try and bear up…. we feel your pain.
Note to Liberals: the Conservative ads are factual.
They show exactly what was said by whom. Nothing wrong with that.
It isn’t like the MSM did their job and kept telling Canadians what Iggy said about Dion in the leadership debates.
Canadians need to know the truth about Dion. But they don’t. Because the MSM is not digging up any truthful negative stuff on him and reporting it to the people… like they always do to the Conservatives.
The Conservatives are rightly, wisely going over the heads of the largely-Liberal-partisan MSM.
It’s their right.
Besides, the fact that a Liberal loyalist is in charge of deciding which ads get through and which don’t… is an apparent conflict of interest. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg, actually…
Keep in mind that the Liberals’ agenda has always been to place their loyalists in as many positions as possible of power and influence throughout the entire state apparatus in order to better serve the interests of the Party whether it’s in or out of power. We know this. No doubt about it whatsoever. We see the evidence all the time. No use denying it.
In a nutshell, I blogged on this, too, today. Here’s the link:
http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2007/01/conflict-of-interest-liberal-censors.html
Makes me wonder who ted really is.
His writing isnt as stomach turning as wornout kantsellits but I do see similarities.
hmmmmmmmmmm
I just watched Duffy talking to Igentieff who said the Liberals would have already had Canda on the right environmental track if the NDP had not forced an election last year. No retort from Duffy saying that the pathetic PMPM begging us to ‘wait for Gomery’ then 2 weeks ‘after Gomery’ the great PMPM would promise to call a general election.
Duffy thinks he is pretty smart – did he forget that little show? Maybe he should let Rutherford run his show – he is suffering memory loss.
lets see if i have this right. the CBC is a publicly funded corporation. correct. therefore, although i’m not a lawyer but does that not make all programming produced by them public domain. anyone know ? just curious as to how they could lodge a complaint to have commercials rejected by telecaster.
jema54 – I think Ignatieff’s whole commentary was to attack the NDP. It had nothing to do with veracity.
The NDP and Liberals are locked into a battle-for-the-left. They’ll use any issue and at the moment, it’s The Environment. But the issue isn’t relevant. What is relevant is who can get hold of the ‘left’ electorate – the NDP or the Liberals. So, they’ll each be blaming the other, and each be assuring the public that they alone can ‘deliver’.
murray rennie – when the Conservative Party ads are shown on the news (CBC, CTV etc) – this isn’t as an ad; it’s part of the news program.
The ads are to be shown on the Super Bowl, and the time for their airing is asked for and paid for by the Conservative Party.
Please understand that when a news program airs those ‘ads’ – they aren’t being asked to do so by the Conservative Party and they are not being aired as ‘ads’. That’s why people are here referring to the News Program’s airing of them as ‘free time’.
CBC has been on a copyright campaign securing the rights to everything that it produces, airs or might have the rights to reproducing.
It has sent a series of letters off to anyone that it thinks has violated any term of the copyright act.
Yes, you paid for most of the content, but it argues that it (the corp) has the right to how that content can get reproduced and resold.
It acts like a private corporation while crying for more public money.
Its puppets moan on cue.
It really does shock me to hear Liberals trying to say the CBC is objective.
Have you been in hiding all these years in a bunker? A more astute question would be. When has the CBC EVER said anything good about Conservatives? The Toronto Star or the Globe & Mail unless its a token conservative on payroll for looks?
It will be a long & endless journy for the one who tries.
The media was bought & sold down the socialist ideological river years ago. They even try to make a positive spin on Taliban Jack with his 70’s porno mushtash.
Who remembers when they would not even allow any conservatives wxcept red tories on election night? Nor allow Stockwell Day an interview. The many patronage appointments to the Senate, or GG office. Yup thier the hight of integrity all right.
Maybe Patterson should resign?
Off Topic but are not we all happy to learn that in Quebec it is now against the law to stone women. I read it in the globe and mail. Not only that, women are allowed to drive cars and make their own decisions. Will that mean they may vote conservative. Read the Cook blog there.
Harper should just come right out and say that he is considering cutting back the CBC budget. Any further negative comments by the CBC would be chalked up as BS.
…one can only hope the Liberals implode from their own corruptness.
Then again, maybe not, the eastern jobless unemployment rate will go up.
Red Star/Libs/MSM Party are hogtied/shocked by the Conservative ads. Listen to the grinding of teeth; the outrage, the chagrin of Peter VD, etc.
More, and faster. …-
Canadian press
OTTAWA – Conservative attack ads fired at Liberal Leader Stephane Dion may end up sideswiping the ruling party after questions were raised about possible breach of copyright laws.
The television ads, which began airing Monday, use footage from last fall’s Liberal leadership debates to deliver the message that the new Grit leader is weak, indecisive and an environmental failure.
But that footage belongs to a consortium of TV networks which pooled their resources to provide live coverage of the debates. The Cable Public Affairs Channel provided the pool camera for each debate.
The networks are now looking into how the Conservatives obtained the debate footage for their ads.
CPAC anchor Peter Van Dusen said Monday that any outside use of debate video would have to be approved by all pool members. Moreover, he said such video is traditionally never authorized for use by political parties.
Van Dusen said he is not aware of any request by the Tory party to buy or use any portion of the debate videos.
“It would come through me and I certainly don’t remember ever getting a request,” he said, adding that he “would’ve said no” if he had received a request….
It’s possible one of the networks sold the video to the Conservatives; the networks are checking to find out if their marketing or archival units might have done so.
Alternatively, a party member could conceivably have recorded the debates on a camcorder from a seat in the audience. …-

That’d be James Patterson, not your buddy Jim Pattison. get it right eh.
Hope Pattison forgives you for mixing him up with a Canadian who cares about Canadians, eh.
It’s remarkable how obviously the media are circling the wagons for Dion and the Libs.
Have none of the networks heard of that thingy on your tv that flashes 12:00 called a vcr recorder.
Several years ago, I had to miss a debate and had set the vcr to record another program. The debate come on after. Years later, while going thru old tapes it was interesting to watch those liberals making promises and knowing the broke every one, especially the GST one. Also got on tape an old Journal program with Barbara Frum, who said, after months of complaints of not doing an interview with Preston Manning, that he would on the next night. When the interview was over she said, now, we have done that and we will never hear from him or Reform again. I should find that and send it to David. The media can’t pull those ads now, it would make cdns face the truth about them. And, so far, it is the media that has been running them for free and many of the panel members are referring to them as liberals attacking liberals, and focusing on dions, and libs inaction for years. One actually said it was very clever of the conservatives to use the liberals own words. Newman said they had not been repackaged, cut and pasted etc as the debates were fresh enough we could all remember them. Some commented that it must be nice to have so much money to do these ads. One said Harper has stolen the green program from dion, like he stole the health care issue from Martin. By the time the election was called it was a non issue. Also, Peter Rather was on the national tonight. No explanation for his absence, and he had the gall to look us in the eye as if nothing had happened.
