  1. watching you2. The link requested by Kate and others, is to validate your comment of “Gee, I bet the formerly stupid, corrupt and ignorant Khan”.
You stated that Khan had been defined by us as ‘stupid, corrupt and ignorant’. Provide evidence of this please.
Your other comment referred to ‘crossing the floor’ and this has been addressed by others. Stronach’s floor crossing had nothing to do with her expertise or values. It was a blatant action by the Liberal Party to stave off a confidence vote by purchasing another MP in the House. That’s unethical.
Khan’s crossing is about the ability-to-do-work for Canadians. Dion isn’t interested in his input into the issues of the Middle East. Harper is. And that has nothing to do with ‘young career partisan politics’. Harper isn’t interested in partisan politics; that’s why he uses expertise where it exists – including Emerson and Khan.
My, you are sensitive, aren’t you?

  2. watchingyou2-Pay attention to what Dion said. Kwan has been a special advisor to Harper for 6 months, and ther was no outrage by conservatives or liberals. Dion said partisianship should not play a role in the environment or what is good for the country. Dion wants to dictate to his team and caucus. He told Kwan he had to choose. Kwan chose country over party, as did Emerson. Perhaps dion should learn english, and say what he means, instead of what he says. Who knows what went on in the liberal caucus meetings. Have you heard Volpe, Dryden or any of the other team members speak out. Is Dion keeping them on a short leash. Talk about dictatorship. It is alive and well in the liberal party. Eventually the cbc/ctv/global will have to tell the truth about him. As has been said before, he is the gift that just keeps on giving. Has anyone ever crossed to the ndp. Kwan will continue on in his role as advisor on the ME. Too bad for dion that his position is so far out in left field that he could not listen to Kwan. And, perhaps Coderes marching with the terrorists also had an effect on Kwan. I predict more libs will cross the floor in the coming months, and as long as Hedy Fry, Volpe, or Scott, BS, Keith Martin coming back, I could care less.

  3. The MSM will bury this story DEEP! It simply does not fit into the narrative (Conservatives hate immigrants and make Muslims hate us).
But you can bet that CAIR-CAN, etc. will float anti-Khan smear stories. Countdown is on…

  4. committed liberal.
for about 6 more days as it turns out.
the rest of the liberals need to be “committed”

  5. Barcs: Actually, it doesn’t matter which way the Speaker votes. So long as there are 154 voting in favour of anything, it’s not going to possible for more than 153 to be on the other side.

  6. Hmm. I’m speculating. I’m wondering. Is Khan’s crossing evidence of disarray in the Liberal domain?
Yes, remember when Stronach crossed and the MSM informed us that this was a sign that Harper was a ‘tyrannical leader’ and wouldn’t allow ‘free thought’..and so on.
So far, the MSM is relatively quiet on Khan. And Dion. And the latest polls which show the blip in Liberal popularity has vanished.
But, I’m speculating. Is Khan’s departure and in particular and above all, Dion’s handling of it, symptomatic of deeper troubles in the Liberal Party?
First we have Dion insisting that you are either partisan or out. You cannot work for the Canadian people; you can only be partisan. That rejects expertise and focuses on ideology.
Second – what ideology? Khan was asked whether Dion was interested in his views on Canada’s foreign policy in the ME. Khan replied – ‘What foreign policy’? He hasn’t seen that Dion has any foreign policy.
Are other Liberals unhappy with Dion? So far, Dion is providing three basic areas of his interest – areas which are so general that ALL governments all over the world are equally involved in the same issues. The environment, social justice and the economy. Name me one country anywhere in the world – apart from the Islamic nations – that isn’t involved in these issues.
BUT – Dion has no policies to ‘fill in’ the black hole of these universal themes. No policies whatsoever. He’s just committed to their abstract nobility. Well, I like apple pie and mom too, but I think I prefer them in reality over their virtual amorphousness.
Dion’s press conferences – admittedly, I can’t bear to watch them; his English is beyond comprehension…But, his conferences seem primarily emotive blasts against Harper. There’s no data, no facts, just ad hominem and much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Hmmm. Is there unrest among the Liberals?

  7. Waiting patiently for Cherniak’s spin on this, and the contortions he will go thru to excuse the crossing! It will most likely cause his head to explode! LOVE IT !! Anyone catch SD on cbc yesterday, and his confusion when interviewer thanked him for “taking the time” to do interview?I could not believe his response. He got quite defensive, thot she was taking him to task for taking time off over the Xmas holidays! It was just bizarre, and I thot,if he gets flustered and confused over something that simple…how is he going to handle any pressure situation? To me,it really highlighted his severe deficiencies, and pointed out how incapable he would be on the world stage.Open mouth, insert foot comes to mind!

  8. Rest assured, the silence will be deafening on the Khan floor crossing. If it lasts the day as news that will be it. They do not want to put out any negative vibes on their new Leader, who has just proven to have a poor handle on what’s going on in the other “camps” of his Party.
It’s a busy time for Dion, he’s probably working hard on his English as well, ya right.

  9. it looks more and more like ‘SD’ has been on ‘LSD’ or something. that guy is so far removed from reality dismissing his dual citizenship, setting priorities, predictions…..

  10. wy2, Kate requested the exact information I was going to ask for and you still haven’t provided it.
I wouldn’t accept an ad hominem slur, such as yours, aimed at sda supporters, even from one of my nine year old students: they know that statements need to be supported by evidence “from the text”. (And wy2, that doesn’t mean your own text–very truncated, I might add: your words, “Gee, I bet the formerly stupid, corrupt and ignorant Khan is now an astute, wise and a great Canadian”, could be reliably filed in the “Fiction” section.)
In fact, when I heard that Mr. Khan was to advise the PM on the ME, I remember thinking, good idea. I didn’t know much about Mr. Khan. But I do know a fair bit about our very fine PM. If Wajid Khan was good enough for him, I knew he was good enough for me. Your contention that everyone here has nothing but contempt for all Liberals is a contemptuous libel.
    Smarten up.

  11. Hey, soon he will announce discovery of the:
Stephane-Dion equation in political dynamics, because he has surely failed when it comes to the Stephane-Boltzmann equation in thermodynamics as it relates to green house gases.

  12. Sammy, I also caught the last 20 seconds of that same CBC Stephane Dion interview where he got totally confused about what the talking head was saying (thanking him for taking the time..) – I laughed out loud!! Not only is his spoken English horrible but his comprehension is pretty piss poor too!!
This guy is indeed a gift to the Conservative Party!!!

  13. Khan is my MP, and naturally I didn’t vote for him.
I going to wait and see how this all turns out – I seem to remember a letter by him to the Mississauga News, pillorying Harper just before Harper made him his Mid-East envoy. I’ll post if I can find it.
Alaghabra on the other hand is reprehensible.

  14. Yeah, I saw that interview as well, it was indeed cringe-worthy, I wish Stephen Taylor would link to it, or at least that some blogger would bring it to Cherniak’s attention.
Dion’s inability to speak or even understand English is quite amazing.

  15. Mississauga Matt:
Do the people in Mississauga ridings really pay attention to what they are electing beyond the Liberal sign?
Caroline Parrish? Alaghabra? Talk about scary!
It seems the only good sense to come out of Mississauga is they keep electing Octogenarian Hazel McCallion, as Mayor.

  16. Yes, Hazel is a gem. I haven’t the foggiest idea why Liberals get elected though.
Here’s that letter by Khan, just before Harper gave him the Middle East assignment:
    The Mississauga News
    Jul 26, 2006
    Canada has a role
The events of the past week in Lebanon have been troubling for some Canadians and tragic for others. The deaths of eight Canadian citizens in the Israeli bombardment have caused widespread consternation, especially given that in Harper’s view, Israel is simply taking a “measured response”. Let’s be clear, the taking of civilian lives, whether by Hezbollah terrorism or by Israeli military action, whether by design, or as part of what today’s politicians euphemistically call “collateral damage”, can never be justified.
I strongly believe that in the current period of global instability, especially in the context of the Middle East, Canada has a unique opportunity to assert itself as a moderate and engaging voice on global and regional issues and to solidify and expand its influence on the world stage. With that influence however, Canada also has a responsibility to be the voice that stresses diplomacy and opens lines of communications with world leaders.
We should be taking it upon ourselves to open up lines of dialogue with nations such as Iran, Israel and Syria, whatever their past or future intentions, in order to follow a path of constructive engagement and to look for positive ways of resolving conflict.
From the machinations of the past week however, it has become obvious that Canada’s attempts to create its own strong and independent voice in the global arena, and the chance to act as the honest broker, are in danger of being squandered by the foreign policy manoeuvres of the Conservative government. At the G-8 leaders meeting, Harper unequivocally wrapped himself around the U.S. policy of unqualified support for Israel’s military actions. While it has always been important to maintain good relations and where appropriate, support the actions of the United States, the Conservative government’s inability to articulate its own policy in the Middle East and attempts to curry favour with the Bush administration cannot and should not supplant Canada’s existing foreign relations capital, nor our potential to be a sober and moderate voice of reason in the world.

  17. Sammy, I caught the tail-end of the Dion interview yesterday, too, on Newsworld. It was hilarious and cringe-worthy. I almost felt sorry for him. Suhana Meharchand couldn’t stop laughing either.
He’ll get roasted when he goes head to head with Harper during debates. He seems to get flustered quite easily and that haughtiness/defensiveness of his comes out.
Anyone checked out the comment section re Khan’s floor-crossing on the CBC website? What a bunch of liberal crybabies posting. What an intolerant bunch.

  18. Say what you will about dion, at least he had the wisdom and courage to warn us yesterday about the perils of “coe fard generaters”. I’d never heard about these creatures before, but last night i had a horrible dream where one of them was chasing me.
BTW, for the libs out there, I can’t speak French very well, but I’m not running for pm.

  19. ya gotta just love khan’s response to the reporter on where Dion stand’s on aphganistan.
Khan: You tell me, where he stands?
    Zinggg!!!
On Dion: He is only a puppet until Justin can get enough training, then goodbye stephane.

  20. ‘coe fard generators’…??? maybe those cows in Great Britain?…cool fart generators???

  21. Mississauga Matt:
Politicians especially, should be careful what they WRITE, it may come back to bite them.
Harper sure won over an “enemy” there, another of Harper’s talents.
Any word on Warren Kinsella’s reaction to today’s news? Has he got his army of toy “Dion”osaurs ready to attack any time soon? Or maybe he’s resting his “sore-head”.

  22. By the way, Cherniak is posting on Khan’s crossing. He’s furious and contradicting his previous posts supporting crossing the floor – when it was Conservatives crossing to the Liberals.
He supported Scott Brison, saying that he “made a substantive decision in a fair manner”.
He supported Stronach’s crossing, saying that she felt, after some months in office, that Harper’s policies were ‘not for her’. He, of course, ignores that her crossing brought the seat count of the Liberals up to prevent their losing control of the government and that she was rewarded with a cabinet post despite her utter lack of expertise.
Now, Jason is ad hominem attacking Khan, telling us that he provides ‘smelly dinners’ (at the Convention, for Volpe); that his actions are ‘contradictory and underhanded’; that he should resign and call a by-election; that he gave Dion ‘no real advance warning’ (heck-we all knew more than a day in advance).
This is from someone who openly posted that he has ‘no problem with MPs crossing the floor’. Heh.

  23. Just saw the petition at Cherniak’s blog. 8 whole signatures, the outrage is incredible!! (sarcasm) I can only assume that signature number 6 is a joke. Even BS wouldn’t have the audacity to post that comment.
    6. Belinda Stronach Aurora This undermines the integrity of politicians

  24. Oh yes, Cherniak also wants people to organize a protest in front of a Duffern Mazda leadership, against Khan. I don’t recall him asking for a protest to take place in front of Stronach’s family Magna Corporation.

  25. The Cherniak petition is up to ten. Number 9 is our ever-ready AP Newssource, Jamil Hussein. Number ten is Scott Brison. Number six is Belinda Stronach….it’s become a joke.

  26. I have a feeling that Cherniak may rethink his petition and remove it soon. Now he has 10 signatures including Scott Brison and Jamil Hussien (the reliable AP source in Iraq?). The mocking is quite funny.

  27. All this about Khan having experience and being an asset, and Stronach’s motivations having been highly suspect, is nothing more than a red herring, used by hypocrits that know – if they aren’t in denial or being intellectually dishonest on the subject – that what Khan has done is wrong. Plain and simple.
What must supercede everything on this issue is the fact that the majority of voters in his riding sent a Liberal to Ottawa, not a Conservative.
Did they vote for the man? Or the Liberal Party’s platform? That’s known only by each voter. Don’t make assumptions that they voted for Khan the man.
I’m consistent. I don’t decide what’s right and wrong based solely (and that’s what you’re doing, you can spin it anyway you want to) on whether my party is the benificiary or not.

  28. cbc breaking news: Cherniak self-implodes…story at 11.I just love the self-important outrage he spews, reminds me of a spoiled brat on the playground, and when things don’t go his way..blame someone else!He has become a parody, and I only go to his site for the hypocrisy. After viewing aforementioned cbc clip of yesterday,I’m starting to wonder if some of the msm are beginning to realize what a friggin joke Dion is..I too found it hilarious the reaction of Suhana..she couldn’t control her mirth!Hmmm, maybe my New Years wish of an on-air epiphany for Mansbridge shall yet come to pass!

  29. Poor Jason – he’ll really have to remove his petition. He’s now got 15 signatures and the latest are Wilma Flintstone, Saddam Hussein and Pierre Trudeau.

  30. Confession to make,I AM Pierre Trudeau of the petition, couldn’t resist! That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time!Bets anyone,on how long it stays up?? Head on over folks, and sign up!Should be a little side vote here at SDA,for the funniest comment/signature.Made my day!

  31. ET: Re Jason’s poll
Yep, nothing like the fictitious and the dead as supporters.
Almost as good as Volpe’s underage children and the dead. No wonder Khan left.
So we have the really dead and the brain dead supporting the LIEberals

  32. Screenshot of 17 signatures:
Paul Martin LaSalle-Emard, Quebec I, I, I, I, I, want to be, to be, to be very clear on this. Funda–fundamentally I think that it’s a Canadian–a Canadian value to want to cross to the Liberals. But when, when when a Liberal crosses the other way, well then that’s that’s that’s just a hidden agenda.
    16. Fidel Castro Kensignton Market, ON My communist colleague, Mr. Dion, has been stabbed in the back! This cannot be allowed!
    15. Wilma Flintstone Bedrock, Ontario Yabadaba dooooooo
    14. Saddam Hussein Bahgdad And to make things even worse, they’ve run out of virgins…
    13. Pierre Trudeau Manitoba I can’t believe that our new leader was so stupid, not to see this coming!Go Harper!!!!
    12. Observer Vancouver BC Yup, resign, right after Stronach, Emerson, and Brison
    11. Dick Gozinya Busterhole, NF Not since the appointment of an unelected Stephane Dion to cabinet have I been so outraged.
    10. scott brison downsview what is this man thinking,no originality at all.an enama purge is required
    9. jamil hussein missisaga,ontario
    8. Kartick Kumar Mississauga, Ontario Should resign, run again and see how he fairs. I’d have liked to see him talk to the voters he courted as a liberal. Dangerous game he’s playing, and will likely backfire badly.

    5. Brian Plas Ottawa
    4. Quito Maggi Ajax, ON
    3. Gerry Hawes Orillia, ON Stephen Harper needs to be called on this as he was over David Emerson. While he portray’s his government as being respectful of the democratic will, he flaunts that will whenever he sees partisan advantage.
    2. Andrew Sally Ottawa, ON
    1. Jason Cherniak Toronto, Ontario

  33. Let me get this straight – a political insider started an Internet poll?
For what purpose? To look like a little kid holding his breath?
BTW, Canada 4 former commies 2 with 10 minutes left …

  34. Jason Cherniak’s petition is suffering from The Genesis Effect.
I understand that Jason Cherniak will be doing a special appearance on Boston Legal where William Shatner convinces Jason that he has Mad Cow Disease.
Round and round the Mutare Nebula they go.

  35. Cherniak should be writing for Mercer cause this stuff is truly funny.
Some of the best fresh material I’ve seen in months.

  36. I’m waiting for Alfonso Gagliano to show up as a signature along with some Kids for Volpe. I hope he makes it to 5,400 signatures.

  37. From Cherniak. How pathetic, what did he expect when he so childishly started this petition? The fact that only 21 people have bothered to sign it and that most are mocking him should be a good indication that the Liberals are not as outraged as he wants them to be. He should have watched NewsWorld today when Nancy Wilson interviewed the President of the MS riding association and he showed total support for Khan and took a few shots of his own at the Liberals. Me thinks that Dion is in trouble and just as Scott Reid and Herle did when it was obvious to all that Paul Martin was in trouble, Cherniak is starting to spout garbage.
    UPDATE
Conservatives are already spamming the petition. They must recognize that Khan could never win a by-election as a Tory. Maybe he can’t even win the Tory nomination!
This should read, Conservatives are already mocking me for my foolish petition.

  38. 1. “ThePolitic.com” is suggesting that Khan may not have so much jumped, as have been pushed by Dion.
    2. Khan was one of 13 liberals who voted to reopen the debate on same-sex marriage.
    3. A few pundits (e.g., CanadianCynic, who is a HUGE admirer of Kate, by the way) have recommended that Dion kick out any Liberals who voted incorrectly in this “free vote”.
So putting 1+1+1 together, is this a case of betrayal or political cleansing?”

  39. He closed down viewing of the signatures to protect the signatees from spamming. How nice.
    enough

  40. You can still see the names. Its up to 28,with the last signature being Oasama Bin Laden.

  41. I just signed the petition as Wood Spider. My comment was to Save me from the crack spider!! Fun fun

  42. Jason has melted down. …-
At 4:11 PM, Jason Cherniak said…
Dennis, please give up the act. We all know that this is a coordinated effort to make up fake reasons to question Dion’s judgement.
    At 4:15 PM, JL said…
We all know that this is a coordinated effort to make up fake reasons to question Dion’s judgement
Ah, that seems kinda like crazy talk doesn’t it? Maybe take a few hours and get away from the computer Jason.
    …-

  43. Looks like he removed the page from his site , but the link still gets you in….. got the makings of one seriously funny gag .

  44. Just to make clear, I did not sign the petition as James T. Kirk, despite my comment, above. And the petition is still up, with joke names outnumbering legit ones and, apparently, absolutely no safeguards against phoney signatures or email addresses being used. Luckily, Jason doesn’t seem to care much for checking opposition web sites, or checking often when you put up an e-petition. [And I have saved screenshots; I learned my lesson when LGF linked to an anti-Israel e-petition from a professor’s blog that also had no safeguards and I didn’t get my signature as Eric Cartman and a few others that I can’t recall now. Remember, folks, “print screen” and “shift + insert” are your friends.]
