Michelle Malkin is doing a nice job of sending her sizable audience to get the latest in Canadian election coverage.
Poll closing times have been staggered to minimize the lag time between east and west coast results, however, if you’re looking for an advance peek at regional returns, I’m told Captains Quarters will be liveblogging.
I currently don’t have plans to be online – I’m planning on a night out with a few friends in front of a big screen tv with a beer in my hand. But if I can get a hookup for my laptop, I may get a post or update in.
The comments thread will also be open. See above – I won’t be here to police things, so behave yourselves, and don’t feed the inevitable trolls.

650 CKOM will be posting results on their website as soon as Sask polls close. The little map should update automatically as the night goes on. |
A final note – I am making no predictions whatsoever. I don’t know that it’s really possible for any pollster to predict how votes may split, or the effect of a dismal campaign on a disappointed Liberal base. I’m content to just wait and see, and keep my fingers crossed for my own CPC candidate, Carol Skelton.

One final reminder to those who will be watching live – early returns tend to favour urban results. In ridings with urban/rural splits, the rural (conservative leaning) polls tend to come in a little later and in many cases, early leads by the left are overtaken. The trend isn’t as strong as it was some years ago, due to better communcations, but it still exists.

Send your trackbacks, and comments, but I do advise Canadian bloggers not to overtly break the ban on posting results directly.
Also – judging by the google generated traffic, there’s a chance the server’s going to get slammed by this evening. Try to do your part by taking it easy on the reloads when reading comments.
And while we wait, a thoughtful piece by Pieter Dorsman on the future of the left in Canada.
Update: Kate Foxworthy moment: When you’re working as a scrutineer at a polling station and some guy rides up in a sled and votes in a full face helmet and gear – and everyone knows who he is – you might be in Saskatchewan.

LOL, Roger 🙂 “Pogey” is Atlantic-Canadian slang for either “welfare” or “(UN)employment insurance”, which end up being the same thing.
Pogey? …the dole…unemployment ins. gotta go to work peeps… Keep the faith!~
RogerA We speak English and American and some French you guys just speak American.
Thank you all! Back to Wollaston Lake next year!!! eh?
Anybody in the West thats p—-ed I don’t blame you. Christ my province (ont) is pathetic.
Maybe they’ll learn the hard way.
First Prime Minister ever born in the city of Toronto and not one seat from there.
Pettigrew just went down, I bet he finds that one hard to swallow…
These results suck. Cons by only 20 seats – 5% lead in the popular vote. All the polling companys got it totally wrong. What is wrong with Canada? Man does this suck.
Kate- Congratulations to you and the Canadian people. I just saw your bit on the BBC. That’s exciting. I look forward to seeing the final results.
Now let’s get on with what MUST be done….making public EVERY bit of sleazy, incompetent or corrupt lib. business and prosecuting the rapscallions with no remorse.
There must be a public acccounting, none of this forgiving attitude so common among politicians, we have just won part one of a war…we must now begin for the next part.
This is not a game, the country is at stake.
I agree, Fritz. This is not good for Canada. We’ll be back in an election within two years and the Liberals will resume their dictatorship.
We NEEDED a strong Conservative minority or a majority so they can show how powerful their ideas are. Instead, they’ll be out the first chance the Libs get.
I’M SO FRUSTRATED! Ontario voters have obviously drank the punch and lost their minds.
Let’s just get it over with and separate.
Just in (and I’m not kidding)
Paul Martin refuses to concede defeat (Mike Duffy looks baffled)
If you had offered me these results two months ago, I would have would have been ecstatic. And I still am. Harper sticks to the plan and he’ll have a majority next time around. Eye on the ball, people.
Folks 123 seats is nothing. Libs + NDP can almost form a government. Quit your celebrating. This is serious and it sucks.
Pettigrew just went down, I bet he finds that one hard to swallow…
Pettigrew has swallowed a lot of hards in his day.
I cannot believe how many Fu**ing stupid people live in this country. What the hell goes on in their minds that would convince them that a vote for a Liberal is a vote for a better country.
These results make me sick….yes we won, but look at how many people voted for these scum sucking pigs. Totally unbelievable!
As for me that’s it. Tonight I have become the most strident supporter of western separation in Canada.
This is horrible. The libs will get a new leader and win a majority in the next election.
Harper will be stonewalled at every turn.
This country is the former Soviet Union .. no it’s Cuba
I am seriously considering either Montana or Texas.
it’s also even possible that the voodoo queen will allow Marting to continue on with the jakals support.
When you have a country so stupid and with about 70% commie, there is little hope. Sorry to be so depressing, but that’s how is actually is.
Reality is reality.
Paris Stronach re-elected in Aurora.
I hereby declare Aurora as the dumbest voters in Canada. unless HotCross Hedy beats Svend in Vancouver ,then they will be a close second.
Martin saying he won’t concede tonight. Nails-on-the-board Annie appears to have finally been given the boot.
Mike Puffy claiming on CTassV that Martin will not resign and will ask the Gov.Gen. to continue on as PM.
Belinda got back in…crap!
If the NDP and Liberals make a collation government, Martin might be back in…
CTV reporting Martin has left his hotel, to speak at his headquarters in about 15 minutes. Didn’t answer the question of whether he would be conceding.
Lib + NDP still +11 on CPC.
I cannot believe that one person in the country voted lieberal! It is astounding and makes me want to separate even more than before. I am glad, however, that the Conservatives will win.
Note that where the Conservatives did win seats it was won typically by a 10 to 1 ratio!
Vancouver has gone Liberal.
Toronto has gone Liberal.
Sad, sad, sad day for Canada.
After running a campaign of lies, smears and fears (not to mention the scandals and thievery), I find it unfathomable that the rest of this country thinks the LPC deserves a single vote let alone over 100. With all of his blumbling, stammering, and dithering Paul Martin isn’t qualified to run a lemonade stand, let alone a democratic country.
And here were are… They’re talking coalition between Liberals and NDP on Global right now.
Stop the country. I want to get off.
Alberta is entirely conservative.
BOOM BOOM out go the blights.
both libs gone.
the only thing i have to say is:
STOCKHOLM SYNDROME!!!!!
definition from wikipedia.org
“Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in a hostage, in which the hostage exhibits seeming loyalty to the hostage-taker, in spite of the danger (or at least risk) the hostage has been put in.”
each and every single person in this country that voted liberal, who did not directly profit from the liberals’ scandals and corruption, must have Stockholm syndrome. How else can the liberals get 100+ seats in this election, after holding the country hostage to their blundering, corruption and complete political stupidity!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
sure I am more than happy that we are going to have a conservative government tommorow, but it makes me sick to the stomach to see the liberals even on the political map. At this point.
At least I will be able to take enjoyment in watching Martin concede defeat. 🙂
I can’t wait for the conservatives to uleash the book keepers on what the liberals haven’t been able to shred….
Evan
I am quite disappointed that so many Canadians feel lying, cheating, stealing etc is acceptable from their politicians. Count this fella as one more hard core Alberta republican (I dislike the word ‘separatist’). Time to man the ramparts and get the ball rolling to get a headstart!
Let me be the first:
The West Wants Out!
If Martin refuses to step down (and John Duffy was just talking to Hannah Boudreau saying that “Paul Martin will make the decision that’s best for the Liberal Party of Canada”), that could be disastrous.
Good God. Does this man have no class at all?
Duke, I know, I feel like puking, what is wrong with people – the Libs get over 100 seats, it is just sickening. I live in Toronto but am from Regina and I want to move to Alberta! there are no conservative voices out here that people can hear on a regular basis – it is only the left and the far left. You can’t pop on your radio and accidently hear someone like Rush or Hannity. People won’t watch Fox because it is “crazy right wing wack jobs”. the most important values in Canuckistan are abortion and gay marriage and everything secular. I am sick of this country.
You guys are out of control. I’ll be back when the crack smoke clears.
I expect right about now Paul Martin is dithering between his concession speech and the “aliens have landed” speech.
if Paulie and the Dippers join forces this is gonna be one Pi**ed Off, gun totin’, western seperation supportin’, western boy!!!!!
EVAN
Landslide Annie is refusing to accept defeat. Here cohorts must be busy looking for ‘lost’ ballot boxes!
I think we are seeing disappointment from CPC supporters who cannot understand how such a shallow and empty campaign could still net so much support.
I feel most sorry for people who will not vote FOR something, but have to vote AGAINST something. In my mind there is no hope in that.
I guess the biggest thing now is to show all of the people who are so afraid of the CPC that they are honest and have nothing to hide. Like someone has said before, if there was a hidden agenda you would think that Belinda would know it.
Never thought I’d say this:
Time to pull the plug folks…
Canada no longer exists. It is Toronto/Vancouver.
I am so disappointed.
Dithers and gang run a horrible campaign, have a horrible record and have sabotage within their own party while the cons. run a great campaign. Result: Cons over crooks by only 6% of popular vote.
This country is in trouble. We’ve got 30% that are just deadweight.
It could be worse, I could live in Toronto and be totally surrounded by these zombies.
I am sad for Canada. Atlantic Canada, Toront, and Vancouver all sold their souls to the most corrput and obnoxious government in modern day.
Only other party that sold Canada’s soul was Diefenbaker with the Avro Arrow
Canada has proven that it is a communist country. Even though the CPC technically won the election, they only have about a third of the popular vote.
The rest are all far left and many who voted for them did so with great trepidation. I pity this sorry country. We have little hope of maintaining our prosperity and freedom.
Will he step down? We will see by tomorrow.
Do you think that instead of looking at this vote as an endoresement of fraud, it is a rejection of conservatism, namely social conservatism? That’s the way I see it.
If the Liberals had not campaigned at all they probably would have won a majority. It’s their own campaign that diminished their numbers. Hard to believe, but that’s the way it looks.
“Tories: 211, Grits: 40, NDP: 42…wait just a minute here…”
Whoops.
We did right in Palliser. Next time Atlantic Canada will see it!!!! Well done Conservatives
I’m afraid the fear mongering of Paul Martin got to many people. You hear lies long enough, they becomes true.
This is sad for our country – Harper is going to have a hard go.
I am deeply disappointed.
Pick yourselves up, and dust yourselves off. There is more work to be done. For my part, I am just glad to see signs of a pulse of real democracy in Canada. I thought you were completely lost. There is hope. LEAD WELL!
Paul Martin is speaking…
and…
he is going go as official opposition.
Wow, nice speech about his wife and family, and soooo proud to be a Liberal…
Paul Martin is going to step down
Paul Martin said he will not lead the LPC into the next election.
Current #’s:
CPC 125
NDP 29
Jack has no hammer
Select Bill Blaikie (MP since 1979?) as Speaker of the House in case the Independent votes with the NDP on any given confidence matter.
Stand back and let Prime Minister Harper and CPC members demonstrate how they will govern in a House during the Liberal Leadership camapign.
Congratulations to the Conservative Party of Canada.
