CBC Town Hall
Mansbridge asking about ITscam. Was it right for the RCMP to say what they were doing?
Martin: You’ll have to ask the RCMP. All it is is an allegation in the middle of an election campaign. RCMP has said there is no evidence to support the allegation.
Mansbridge: even by saying that they’ve gone farther than they would in a normal investigation. That strikes people as odd that the mounties would say that in the middle of a campaign.
Martin: no evidence… blah blah blah.
Mansbridge: that’s not what I’m asking …
Martin: But that’s the way I’m answering …
[audience breaks up in laughter]
Martin goes on about what Harper said. Mansbridge says that Martin has reversed his position on things. Martin starts to reply, and Mansbridge interrupts every other word with an example.
End of Town Hall. Martin’s a schmuck.
I have been watching Mansbridge interview his BOSS. Free air time for the Liberal Party.
I am worried.
Having never done this before..
I suggest..

I think the audience and Mansbridge were quite fair tonight. There was that one Arabic guy who smooched Martin’s ass with the preamble to his question, but overall I think a lot of pointed questions were asked, and I think Martin did a very good job of digging himself deeper. I did not get the sense that the audience had any patience for his answers.
Mississauga Matt:
“But he’s the one smoking crack, not me”
ROFL on that line. Great running commentary on the Dithers spot by the Ministry of Truth.

“Mentions Stockwell Day as cabinet member.”
As opposed to Maurice Strong as adviser. Well, he’s right – Stock is nowhere near the totalitarian bootlicker that Maurice Strong is. If you’re going to take the lead on a woman’s right to kill her child then you want to cozy up to regimes that mandate abortion for all 2nd born children.
A budding King Herod has very few role models these days.
Re: Notwithstanding Clause
(This is a lazy repost of mine from Angry’s blog)
Dithers is making his MP’s look stupid, recently, too. Just came back from an Oakville (Ont.) candidates meeting an hour ago, & the local liberal MP (Bonnie Brown) looked mighty uncomfortable when an audience question asked whether or not the candidates supported the Notwithstanding Clause, or would vote to get rid of it.
Brown muttered & stammered that she’d ONLY just seen the Red Book as somebody handed it to her when she walked INTO the debate to prep, roughly 6pm. Can you imagine? She was truly mud-sucked. She stammered that she’d no time to ponder the complex Constitutional issues this week, and Dithers (she called him “The Prime Minister”, not “Dithers”) would have to do a good job in selling her on the idea, since she’d like to have the NWC available in case the Supreme Court made unfavourable rulings, LIKE THE RECENT ONE CONCERNING THE QUEBEC S.C. & HEALTHCARE WAITING TIMES. (Aside: is anybody suprised a Liberal would want to keep the NWC to hamper privatized healthcare?)
The CPC Candidate (Terrence Young) practically jumped at the microphone when it was his turn, and eviscerated Brown & the Libs handily, dryly noting he’d had plenty of time to think of the Constitution this week, haha. He noted that Dithers had vowed to use the NWC IF the SCC forced churches to marry same-sex couples, and now he was back-tracking on his word on the basis of an impromptu debate remark that wasn’t discussed with his cabinet (referenced the leaked docs to the Western Standard). Young also clearly explained the possibility of an unaccountable & appointed, not elected, SCC making laws that overrode parliament and leaving the churches unprotected against mandated SSM if the Supreme Court so decided, and even the lefties in the crowd were silent. Of course, all the social lib-tards in the crowd lustily booed his stance on SSM (as expected), but the defenders of traditional marriage were just as loud from where I sat. Me too, for that matter.
Naturally, the NDP and (politically naive) Green Party candidate said they were against the NWC, but no surprises there. They’re probably on the bus with the Libs against such right-wing extremism as the horrors of “property rights”, too.
As to the Lib attack ads: you know you’re in trouble when your opposition mocks – rather than takes offense – at your media spots, heh heh.

“This guy is not capable of driving a car, let alone running the country.”
He’s suffering from some kind of Sudafed overdose.
Post CBC Town hall phone-in.
First 2 people have their heads screwed on right. 3rd caller is a card-carrying Liberal who goes on an “everything is rosey for the Liberals” rant, and uses the word … FUNDAMENTALLY!
CBC lady is actually challenging Herb Daliwal. Can the meeting of matter and anti-matter be far off?
Minister phones in and says the only guy who said he’d use the NWC … is PMPM!
Damn when those voters remember things!
The minister is a Lib, but is actually tearing Martin apart for the NWC idiocy.
I watched the Mansbridge/Martin debacle, and it went downhill after they discussed the Liberal negative ads. In brief, Martin BS’d all the way, gave long-winded, non-answers and, in so doing, ate up all the time. Useless.
And they had the nerve not to use my “Where is the $1.14 million of dirty money that you said you would refund, Martin?” question.
Along the way he got away with outrageous statements. The worst was the super-super-hypothetical response on why he wants to ban the NWC.
Absolutely horrible. The whole night will undoubtedly impress the heck out of uninformed viewers, but it was absolutely a travesty against truth.
I see Harper’s crew haven’t decided if they want to use the Monday night slot. If this “Mansbridge night” gets any media attention or has legs, yes he should. If not, it’s optional in my mind.
Thanks Mississauga Matt. You have done many people a great service by live-blogging this Town Hall, saving people from having to watch and listen to Paul Martin (*shudder*), yet still allowing us to find out what kind of idiotic comments he was making. Nicely done.
Hey Kate,
email me the graphics and I’ll have a couple hundred thousand printed up, and do a mass mailing to TO. What the hell, the Liberals would.
Herb Dhaliwal: “I beleive in Liberal principles.”
Er, note to Herb: they have no principles.
THAT is the chasm between the Libs and the CPC – the Libranos have no principles, and that’s why we hate them so.
Jack! Layton doing a commerical for Video Professor, the CD’s for learning computers.
No wait, that’s some other guy.
But back to Jack! Take a look at one of the NDP ads where at the end there’s a still of Jack!, and tell me that there’s not a bit of swoop action happening on his head. I swear there’s a bit more hair in those ads than there is in real life.
Re: the Notwithstanding Clause & its removal.
Canadians should be reminded that if the Americans had had such an instrument in THEIR 2000 election, Mr. Bush, whom the Martinites and some left-wing elements love to hate, would not have been declared the winner of the election by the US Supreme Court, and that would have made Martin happy. Very happy.
I am sure that the Democratic side of the US Senate and the House of Representatives might have viewed our recourse to a similar vehicle with some envy.
Our Parliament has this precious mechanism which can act as a safeguard against decisions handed down by members of an UNELECTED Supreme Court which the majority of the population may not agree with. Furthermore, the Notwithstanding Clause is a perfect illustration of what many Canadians say they are so proud of, that which apparently distinguishes our country from our supposedly extreme right-wing neighbour to the south: the spirit of compromise and accommodation.
re: CBC Town Hall discussion of NWC
PMPM stated, “I’ve said that I wouldn’t use it.” (That, BTW, is an EXACT quote.)
Stephen Harper has also said that he wouldn’t use it.
Question: Who am I to believe?
Answer: The one who doesn’t have 33 RCMP investigations to answer to.
It seems to me Derek Zeisman is simply perfect Liberal material. Why not go and join Belinda S. and her cronies, and don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out. Byebyebyebyebyebyebyebye.
Oh Gawd, Been on this computer throughout the Martin interview. Kept leaving to find out what my husband was yelling about – it was the t.v. He was so pi%%ed with that Town Hall Meeting he has a list of candidates that I have to call in the AM. He wants to know why Martin is saying that he has to remove the NWC, because the Cons will use it to remove Women’s Rights. He wants to know where the hell Martin gets his imformation and why the hell someone doesn’t set him straight. My whole morning will be busy calling all the parties offices asking where the info is coming from. Our tax dollars to support that crap.
Was that a same sex multiple partner marriage?
Or can any red blooded young horndog with really thick skin and a thicker skull go out and get a legal hareem now?
I allways knew there was gonna be drawbacks to being a boomer!

Re live blogging a dead horse
Great job tonight. Stephen is looking very comfortable and is making real headway. I too noticed that the CBC lady – Kathleen (?)was giving Dalliliberal a bit of a hard time. I also noticed, however, that she did not challenge his assertion that the anti-Kyoto sentiment in the U.S. is confined to Republicans. Presumably, like most Canadians, she is unaware that the U.S. Senate voted it down in 1998(?) 95-0.
Kindest Regards .
Terry Gain
methinks Mr.Dithers has slipped a cog.
good liberal stategists will have to take him out of the limelight like they did with PTPM .
he is out of control and obviously on too many pain killers or boozing it.
Shaken,
I’m likin’ your db take on the matter 🙂 What I’m wondering lately is…..can we reduce society to Boyce Codd Normal Form? hehehe…..
Hey polygamy! The new justice department report.
Solomon had 700 wives. No problem if your rich.
I have enough trouble keeping one woman happy.
Yes sirree, I’ll order me up a passle of 12 brides over the internet and do some good old fashioned human trafficking in my shiny new SCC approved sex club.
Yup that ought to go over well in the Bible belt, Solomon did it why not us?
Oh yeah, better make sure we don’t violate the Catholic priest’s right not to perform polygamous marriages; by invoking PM Paul Martin’s first priority commitment to the notwithstanding clause.
All coming to a Pravda inspired, televised debate in the very near future. NOT!
Gabby – for the record: The one who took the 2000 election results to the Supreme Court wasn’t Bush. It was Gore – because every recount had him in the losers column. As did every recount afterwards.
Get. Over. It.
I watched most of it, btw. I thought Dithers was a wreck, and the expressions on the audience faces weren’t impressed.
that Mansbridge kept pushing him back to anwering the actual question was good enough for me. It alerts the audience, and they start watching for it.
I think he looked extremely unconfortable, and that’s half of the battle lost before his mouth even opened.
Erik Sorenson: I think the CPC made the right decision to turn down Mansbridge’s town hall series. Why on earth would the Harper subject himself to the propaganda arm of the Liberal Party?
Re: Town Hall
I had a call from Christine Mayall Associate Producer of CBC TV last week and she asked me if i wanted to ask a question on their show. I said i would and she asked me what my question would be. I told her i had a question for Martin and it was….”How can you justify a campaign based on Canadian Values when your Govt is under 35 RCMP investigations and you have a record of polluting the Great Lakes with your company ships that are registered offshore to avoid Canadian taxes?” I talked to her today and i guess the CBC thought my question was unfair so i was cut! Censored!
you might enjoy the newest liberal ad. ;o)
The secret agenda of the Paul Martin Liberals sets the stage for not only polygamy, but also a Pandora’s box in which a host of other ugly specters await, such as open pedophilia, and eventually incest…
Where do Liberals draw the line in their ever-widening erosion of Canadian moral values?
With regard to Mr. Day being foreign minister: As I understand, he would be unfit because he is a man of faith. Besides the Northern European welfare states, in the rest of the world being a person of faith does not disqualify a person for that position. From my point of view his faith would give him an advantage in dealing with foreign ministers from much of the world.
Blowing the lid off Pandora’s Box
…the woman opened up the cask, And scattered pains and evils among men. — Hesiod The debate on same-sex-marriage has been a long and bitter one, and it’s not over yet. In a new form of bigotry, those of us
Well thanks to Mansbridge and his CBC Townhall with Mr.Martin, my kids think I’m insane.
I dont think I’ve ever yelled and cursed at my tv as much as I did last night…well since the second english language debate anyway.
Martins, reply to Western alienation, was totally pathetic.
Also, as caregiver to a disabled child, I can say, he is “fundamentally” full of it. He’s made promises in the past regarding helping those that have to stay home with a disabled relative, we are still waiting.
I think all but the first woman on the Townhall were Liberal puppets, and is it just me or did anyone else notice the way the cameraman focused on the young women in the audience when Paul Martin was spreading his manure about Steven Harper wanting to strip women of their right to choose.
Steven Harper should call a press conference, where he states ..” Let me make this very very clear, it would be “fundamentally” wrong of the Conservatives, to involk the NWC to take away a womans right to choose, to do away with SSM, or strip any minority of its rights”
I know he has said it in the past, but it seems to be overlooked and as long as Paul Martin is shovelling it, Steven Harper should call him on it.
Ah polygamy…another one of those “Canadian values” upon which the country was built.
Polygamy — just because it is rarely prosecuted, does not make it right.
