Don Boudria isn’t content with throwing out faxes from critics – he wants them charged.
Over the last 29 hours, my office has received no fewer than 828 faxes here on Parliament Hill. I have them here. I am willing to table them for the consideration of the Speaker if Mr. Speaker feels that this will help guide him in determining whether or not this is an abuse of what should legitimately be going on. […] In the case of my office, whereby we normally receive 40 to 50 faxes from constituents in a day, we have been able to receive a grand total of five over the last two days. The rest of the time the equipment is completely blocked. A group calling itself Focus on the Family, which has the website www.marriagematters.ca, is making it such that our telephone systems have been rendered inoperative this way.
He also wants parliament to control registration of domain names.
And change his diapers, no doubt.

Control registration of domain names? Yeah, that’d be easy – right up there with stopping spam and litter.
I particularly liked this section:
“Mr. Garry Breitkreuz (YorktonMelville, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I have been listening to this now for two days and I find it very interesting that when I went through the same problem as the member is experiencing and took it to the people opposite, they regarded it very lightly. They laughed and joked about the fact that this was being done to me on a completely different issue. Now we see the hypocrisy being displayed about how serious this is but when it was a different issue I received no support from that side of the House and there was nothing I could do about it.
I went to Internet companies. I went to all the people who were using my name to spread all kinds of things about me that were totally false and those people laughed and joked about it. They said, oh, ha, ha, ha. Now it is happening to them and it is a very serious thing on another issue.
Mr. Speaker, this has been going on for some time and it is a bit hypocritical for them to now raise this as a very serious issue.”
So it was funny when it happened to a CPC MP but now that it’s happening to Liberals, and more than a few (40-50 according to Boudria), it isn’t funny.
Whatever happened to the Liberals’ sense of humor?
Since catching the first point of privilege by accident (I forgot to close the CPAC window after QP) I’ve been making a point of waiting to hear if it comes up again.
Further, I really don’t understand why this hasn’t been picked up by the MSM, as it appears to be a serious attempt to quell freedom of speech, religion and our right to contact our MPs. Perhaps it’s because the MSM know there’s nothing that can be done about it? And if they make it a story, everyone will go find the websites and send faxes?
Hmmmmm…
As an aside, I wonder what the court reporters transcribing all of this think when they have to type “oh, ha, ha, ha.” Probably makes their day.
Are all of these faxes from the same individual? If so, that crosses the line that divides exercising a democratic right and harrassment.
I believe the website invites individuals to click on a link in order to “fax your mp” – – not so different from any number of similar campaigns.
http://www.marriagematters.ca/fax.aspx
Ah, it’s completely kosher then. Hm… I think it’s time to break out the fax machine.
What’s also interesting is that Boudria is considering these faxes to be garbage, i.e. ‘spam’ faxes, when they are actually faxes generated by (I’m assuming) constituents – his (he obviously didn’t click on the “fax your MP” button – you have to include your email address, your name & postal code. There is a note in red to send a maximum of one email and one fax per person.)
Good to know that of the 833 faxes sent to him by concerned constituents, he’s only reading the 5 that he agrees with and the rest are trash.
I think I’ll send an email to Jason Kenney and suggest he walk through the process himself for the next time it’s brought up in the House.
Don Boudria; the last of the “rat pack” that instigated the tactics that are now common in the House today.
This is so typical of Boudria’s career. Fierce partisan in good times, and whiny suckhole in bad. He’s what we used to call a “frontrunner”. Remember the rabid, foaming at the mouth actions when he was part of the rat pack, then remember the simpering little child who was chased into his office by the media screaming “I don’t deserve this” over the Grand Mere affair.
Payback’s a bitch ain’t it?
Very interesting – I used the marriagematters site to send a fax & email (and had a copy sent to me). What it does is send a fax/email to the committee members (for C38), not my MP. However, it includes my name, address and email address for identification/response purposes.
OT:
Anyone hear Ken Dryden’s comments from Regina today? I don’t have the exact quote, but it went something like wanting to “entrench” the national daycare program into the Canadian system so that no future government would ever dare to end it.
Great.
Another “medicare” super-beaurocracy to hang around the necks of taxpayers. We know how wonderfully *that* has turned out.
We’re approaching critical mass.
Boudria and any other Canadian concerned about cybersquatting can lodge a complaint with CIRA. I have dealt with similar problems and read the CIRA site regarding their dispute resolution process. Obviously Boudria has not, or he has and found out that a protest site is a legitimate use of that Domain. And what kind of idiot lets his domain registration lapse?
Oh, poor baby. How arrogant and unaccountable do you have to be to be able to so directly and blatantly insult your own constituents without worry of electoral reprisal? As someone who worked for a state legislature here in the US, I literally can’t imagine ANYONE, of any political stripe, even thinking of it.
I just sent an email to the Speaker of the House about this. hee hee hee. It never occurred to me you could email him 😉
I wonder if he’ll take Mr. Boudria to task for discarding legitimate correspondence from Canadians?
A. Cooper, just an aside on the daycare thing. I live in Quebec and all of the daycares across the province are shut down because of a strike. Great system, eh? It didn’t effect me any as my kid is still waiting on the list at 2 years old, only about 25% of the kids can find spots but everyone is paying big bucks. This national daycare thing is pretty scary stuff!
Dave,
the reason he can get away with it is because he isn’t running again, and a yellow dog could get elected under the Liberal banner in his riding. Here’s hoping his constituents have had enough.
Tom,
I’d heard about the impending strike in PQ. Their program is in the $billions to administer, and it is a royal shambles. They want to export this to the ROC?
More on Dryden’s comments today; someone can post the relevant media copy if they wish. He claimed that those who are against this 2 tier system are “ignorant”. When asked about the stay at home parents that will not be covered, he stated that they constitute a “small minority”. Funny how minority rights become a passing fancy to Liberals as it suits them.
Oh, and Dryden’s speech? Given to a group of public sector employee’s. No doubt, part of the “consultation with stakeholders” Liberals are famous for.
Candace,
Jason Kenny did address the ‘weasel”s problems one day. He told him that the internet only recognized ‘strings’ or html and that no one owned any ‘strings’ unless they registared a domain name. He also told him that the internet is world wide and could not be regulated by the House of Commons in Canada. Boudria claimed stupidity but I know that his hired hacks are aware of all the protocals of internet service and the rules for the world wide web. Boudria wanted to have the people running a campaign against SSM shut down and/or portrayed as some sort of dangerous fanatics. The persona of Boudria is supposed to appeal to the ‘seedy’ left who have become very powerful in the left wing wacko groups like PETA, Greenpeace, the Sahara Club, and the NDP/Liberal Party of Canada.
I saw something recently where a form letter reply was sent to a canadian from the PMO and somewhere in the reply it had labelled the letter as SPAM.
So, the Liberals and Boudrea – all of them just think we Canadians who were under the impression that THEY worked for US are just a bunch of Spammers.
The class system is alive and well – the elite and the serfs who till the soil.
So much for the Liberals wrapping themselves in the constitution where we are all to be treated as equals.
Yes, Jema, I know he did on both days Boudria raised the question. And yes, I know it’s a poorly-disguised attempt to shutdown one or more websites. As for the “spam” issue, I included a copy of the email sent on my behalf in my email to the Speaker. I hope he rips them a new one (although I doubt he will).
What a bunch of slimes.
Don’t be offended by my frank analysis
So sue me: I can sympathize (to some extent) with Don Boudria, on the matter of form letter faxes.
Registering an MP’s (or a company’s, or a country’s) name to create a protest site is not only legitimate, but it’s an effective form of protest. It potentially draws interested parties into a larger context, and therefore enhances communication. And besides, Boudria’s (and others) official parliamentary website need not be affected by third party registrations who use .ca instead of .com, or whatever. They just need to register their domain name.
But I must admit, and this is as an almost apoplectic anti-Liberal, that the whole streaming endless faxes of form letters is just a bit too much. It’s the opposite of expanding on an issue – it’s more like screaming at the top of your lungs in order to disrupt someone else’s conversation. It’s aggressive, but in a really adolescent way – like a low-tech version of an internet virus.
The Liberals have certainly raised the bar on slimy tactics but it’s better to take note than to try to jump over it.
If Bohodria has that big a problem, I guess B.S had no faxes sent to her office. Hey, at least she was kind enough to send everyone a letter back. I am confliced however as to MSM stories about all of the faxes sent to various MP offices. I am to belive Chuck Cadman’s office when they say their office was swamped with people communicating THEY DIDNT WANT AN ELECTION. I am sure there were a few angry letter is the mix, but ol’ chuck, he polled his riding and “bedammit, my riding just doesn’t want and election…Doesen’t want one right now” Can anyone tell me what kind of “man” is chucky anyway? At least David Kilgor has something to say about the reason he voted/acted the way he did. What do we get from branflake? “Uhhh…ya, my constituency didn’t want an election”. Was it a hard descision? “Uhhh…I’ve made harder ones.(?)” Thanks alot for the brilliant insight. The brainwave is an independant because he is way to stupid for ANY party. Not for his riding though.
Dustin – if you check the Grewal tape transcripts you will see that Murphy actually coached Grewal to use “my constituents don’t want an election” as the “politically correct way to appear that this was a matter or principal.”
You don’t think Cadman thought up THAT excuse all by himself now do you?
EBD: “…the whole streaming endless faxes of form letters is just a bit too much…”
Why? Why, if thousands of Canadians are angry about an issue, should they not have the right to communicate that to either their MP (who will be voting on said issue) or a House committee discussing the issue? How is that adolescent? The only way a fax or email gets sent is if someone goes in, fills in their name & email address, and clicks a button.
If there is an “endless stream” then that’s likely because there is an equally “endless stream” of people in this country that care passionately about the issue.
Tell me, EBD, if those faxes were IN FAVOUR of SSM, would Boudria be complaining? No, he’d be shouting from the rooftops about how all these people are agreeing with him.
He can’t have it both ways. And I disagree with you 100% (in case you didn’t figure that out) 😉
The Citizens Centre for Freedom and Democracy has been using this method for over a year. I have sent numerous emails through them to my MP and others and I generally receive a reply. Too bad about Boudria, the slime bag.
One of my relatives was a Provincial MLA – only 800 faxes and emails a day Boudrea???
That’s nothing compared to when the nurses or teachers or other unions were in negotiations. Email, faxes, letters to the editor campaigns are de rigour for Canada’s interest groups.
That does not make their interests unimportant or their voices not worthy of being listened to. Or, Don, is it because this group is perhaps “christian” or some other sneaky devilish religion like Sikhs or Muslims that does no endorse SSM.
Or, are the Paul Martin Liberals becoming like Hitler or Saddam – if you are not praising the party line you are to be squashed.
“this is an abuse of what should legitimately be going on.”
Don is such an eloquent little piece of shit. And now he’s upset because his contituents can’t reach him to make their pork requests. Bite me Don.
How dare the rabble not behave as they should!
“the reason he can get away with it is because he isn’t running again, and a yellow dog could get elected under the Liberal banner in his riding.”
A yellow dog named Tremblay or Simard perhaps, but not one named Smith.
BoHodria: My goodness! This office doesn’t have the capabillity to deal with 800 faxes! Nor the resourses! Well, back to more hours of meetings with may vast and expensive army of pollsters.
boHOOdria(a.k.a “the whiz kid”): Yeep, misa Tim zzzz right! 56 seez nooooo election! 64% want Liber…(sound of crumpled paper) 42 in Tario!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!whoooooowee…(pees pants, smiles) I love polsters….

To h— with Boudria & his rat pack ! The rat’s holes are disappearing. They now have nowhere to hide; they can run but they cannot hide.
The West leads the way forward for Canada.
Look west, the land is bright.
Candace: re 8:15
You said, referring to the faxes overload, that “if there is an ‘endless stream’ then that’s likely because there is an equally ‘endless stream’ of people in this country that care passionately about the issue”.
I agree that anyone who would push the ‘send’ button fifty times over a few hours is probably passionate to the point of being cross-eyed, but their passion is both careless and ineffective.
I agree with you that if the faxes were in FAVOR of same-sex marriage, Boudria would not be complaining in parliament. He would, however, be swearing a lot under his breath if the exact same fax kept coming in all day from the same person.
More agreement: IF his fax gets jammed up by the sheer volume of people opposed to same-sex marriage, then I say, absolutely, “A fax on his house”. But if it’s just a few trainspotting stubborn-heads, it’s just a stupid form of vandalism.
BTW, I hope that this endless stream that you speak of will show up in formation and wash these fax-catchers away at election time.
Most of the emails get deleted unless you are a constituent. Candace, if Jason Kenny is your MP you should ask him. I know someone from his department who told me that this is what she does.
“a yellow dog could get elected under the Liberal banner in his riding. Here’s hoping his constituents have had enough.”
As a matter of fact, we HAVEN’T had enough of jobs for life in the federal, provincial and city government that we get just for showing up and speaking French. We also like getting lots of government contracts. So if it’s OK with you, we’ll continue to dine off your kids’ inheritances with whatever dog, cat, mouse or flea the Liberals decide to run in our riding.
Just think. If the NDP weren’t propping up this corrupt government, we wouldn’t be sending all these faxes. Imagine how many trees could be saved.

Aizlynne: “Most of the emails get deleted unless you are a constituent. Candace, if Jason Kenny is your MP you should ask him. I know someone from his department who told me that this is what she does.”
Apparently, begging works. Whenever I send an email to an MP who is not mine (since I’m stuck with the Screecher), I always mention that my MP doesn’t appear to listen – or I mention her by name – or… or … or…
Surprisingly, I get more responses from CPC MPs than I do Annie…/sarc
I’ll let you know if I hear from Mr. Kenney.
too funny.
btw that argument works if you’re NOT on a committee that happens to be discussing the subject of the email. I’m not entirely sure it should work if you are on said committee. Maybe the Speaker will answer me.

Canada’s puppet police force
Don’t ask Mounties to get their man if he is connected to the Liberal party
By Licia Corbella — Calgary Sun
Back in 1998, I wrote how I didn’t trust the RCMP as a corporation anymore when it came to investigating anything to do with the federal Liberals.
I wrote the same thing again in 2001 and 2002, each time listing a whole new host of reasons why.
The sponsorship scandal served to tie a pretty ribbon around this statement.
After all, the RCMP is now given the task of investigating its own corruption and that of its politically corrupt benefactors.
Clearly, such an arrangement is an enormous conflict of interest.
It’s important to state that individual RCMP officers still deserve and receive my respect — and that of most Canadians.
But consider what a friend said to me a couple of days ago.

>dM ACTION UPDATE:
Paul Martin Liberals attack the Defend Marriage Coalition
Don Boudria states three lies against Defend Marriage on CBC, National T.V.
Sat. June 4, 2005
Dear Friends of Marriage:
On Friday, June 3rd the Paul Martin Liberals stepped up their smear campaign against the Defend Marriage Coalition and Christians who oppose their extreme agenda. Long-term Liberal rat pack member, Don Boudria told three outrageous lies targeting Dr. Charles McVety, Senior Director of Defend Marriage Coalition.
This attack caps off seven days of relentless assaults on people of faith who voice dissent and attempt to participate in democracy. Liberal Member of Parliament, Don Boudria told three bold face lies Friday evening as he spoke on the Don Newman, CBC political program. He clearly did not tell the truth when he said Dr. Charles McVety had 1) broken the law, 2) breached Internet rules and 3) impersonated a member of parliament (a criminal act). Our press release is on the dM front page you can read it by clicking > here.
All Defend Marriage did was search available website names, found donboudria.ca available, click the buy now button, pay the $12.95 and display a respectful information page. Our lawyer confirmed that this is 100% lawful and breaches no rules of the Internet. Mr. Boudrias accusation of impersonating a MP is a pure hallucination.
The Defend Marriage website plainly states in the middle of the page (This is not the official website of Don Boudria, MP). Defend Marriage lawyers are now preparing legal action against Mr. Boudria. In addition, further measures will be taken to have Mr. Boudria removed from the Bill C-38 parliamentary committee in light of his “intimidation tactics against an upcoming witness.
According to a leaked Liberal memo, Mr. Boudrias lies were planned in the Liberal Caucus meeting on Tuesday when Liberal MP, Mark Holland discussed the matter and then circulated a memo to began soliciting participants for their campaign. It is interesting to note that Mark Holland is running against Dr. Rondo Thomas, the Conservative candidate in Ajax-Pickering. Dr. Thomas also happens to be the Vice-President of Canada Christian College, the very institution singled out as the focus of Mr. Hollands plot to attack the its good reputation and charitable status. It is also clear that Prime Minister, Paul Martin approved the attacks as he would of any action resulting from Caucus discussions.
Paul Martins war on people of faith and the Defend Marriage Coalition actually began on Friday, May 27th with the Globe and Mail headline Christian Activists Capturing Tory Races.
This anti-Christian article targeted Dr. Charles McVety and Dr. Rondo Thomas of Canada Christian College as well as other pro-marriage supporters such as Darrel Reid — past president of Focus on the Family, Tristan Emmanuel — the Presbyterian minister and Ms. Cindy Silver — former executive director of the Christian Legal Fellowship. Over 20 other articles ensued targeting leaders such as David Sweet, former head of Promise Keepers. Sources confirmed that the Prime Ministers Office was the origin of the stories targeting religious candidates. The most onerous attack was the anti-Christ editorial cartoon in the Globe and Mail, Saturday May 28th.
The Globe and Mail’s bigoted message displayed a huge cross, sharpened to a point piercing the finger of Stephen Harper, causing him to bleed with great pain and anguish (image below).
Other religious leaders such as Dr. Frank Dimant, of Bnai Brith stated if that was a star of David the outcry would have been severe. This is how the Nazis began to de-legitimize the Jews.
It appears that the Prime Minister is dreadfully afraid of the movement to defend marriage. He is so desperate that he will even resort to having his MPs wage a harsh campaign of lies, deceit and prejudice against religious Canadians who seek to democratically defend something that is dear to their hearts. These attacks will no doubt continue and escalate.
