Coyne; “I only caught the last part of the interview, so perhaps they’d been talking about it incessantly beforehand. But at no time after Lawand let slip this thunderbolt did I hear Hanomansing say, “What?” or “WHAT” or “WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY?” It just seemed to pass without comment. Oh, of course “The former director-general of the Liberal Party of Canada in Quebec testified under oath that his life had been threatened.” “Did I mishear? Am I crazy? Doesn’t anyone else think this is huge?” |

Apparently not. If buring it deep in the article means anything, the Canadian Press considers physical violence to be just another day at the office for the Libranos.
Dezainde’s appearance at the inquiry also took a dramatic turn when he broke down in tears after mentioning an alleged threat by an associate of then-public works minister Alfonso Gagliano during a spat over underground party fundraising.
The witness lost his composure after explaining how the party finances at Montreal headquarters had been “taken hostage” by Gagliano associates, including aide Joe Morselli. Dezainde said Morselli blew a gasket in July 2001 after Dezainde refused to rehire a fundraiser fired days earlier for lobbying government departments, in writing, on party letterhead.
Dezainde said Morselli confronted him in the canteen of the Montreal office and pointed a finger centimetres from his face.
“He said, ‘From here on in, I declare war against you,”’ recalled Dezainde.
He said he immediately reported the incident to Gagliano, who blamed the incident on Morselli’s bad temper and promised to have words with his confidant.
Dezainde broke down as he recalled telling friends and family about the tense moment. Presiding judge John Gomery, just before ordering a break in the proceedings, asked him: “You considered this to be a threat of physical violence?”
Dezainde replied: “Yes.”
Now, go read this, too. Apparently, it is not permissible to mention that money was dropped off in Chretien’s riding, because it’s outside of Gomery’s mandate.
What was that kerfuffle, again, about we “tin-foil hatters” making too far too much out of Paragraph K?

Didn’t the guy who threatned the witness have a car blow up on him in his driveway? Can anybody check that out and maybe draw some conclusions for me?
old squid,
Car bomb artical: http://tinyurl.com/b96vf
Sorry, only confirms the car bomb in 1989.
I may have to get RCMP protection soon.
This Libranos stuff is getting dangerous.
Thank God I don’t have a car to blow up,
just a tricycle.
If we can ever get them all back in the sewers, will weld the lids shut, that way they’ll have to swim to the river were we’ll “Feed dem to da Fishes”, if ya know what I mean.
Kate’s Dodge will take car of the stragglers.
Actually, Kate, Gomery said the same thing the day before to, I think, Corbeil, only it was along the lines of “Liberal staffing is outside my mandate” which I think is a CROCK if those staff were not paid for by the Liberal party. Damn, I was actually thinking Gomery was a good guy. HA!
This all just confirms a not especially deep theory that I have. I think Alphonso Gagliano and his crew (including Joe Marselli) act as the “in-your-face business end” of the operation, i.e., intimidation, bribery, extortion, influencing, etc., etc.
Probably they act in a sort of semi-autonomous capacity in respect to the rest of the Libranos. I can hear Alphonso speaking to Big Pauli —
“Pauli, I tell you what we’re gonna do about this… ”
Big Pauli holds his hand up in a gesture of silence. “Don’t tell me. I don’t have to know what you need to do.”
Alphonso nods knowingly. “Don’t worry, Pauli, it will all be taken care of.”
I’m also curious about where the organized crime figures receive their profits in the Libranos’ Racketeering scheme. Obviously, money is extracted from various businesses designed to eventually go into Librano political coffers. But where does the mob get its percentage? Is something tricky done between the time that the brown envelope goes into Tony Marselli’s hand and the time it finally winds up in the Libranos’ coffers? Does organized crime control the businesses that get the special access to government and the organized crime figures realize their profits due to their partnershipe with the businesses that are protected by the Public Works minister? Somewhere, somehow, the mob guys take home their percentage.
Greg,
What your hearing about is only one small percentage of one department. The AG is not allowed to audit the other departments, which have an even higher degree of suspicion. So the mob could be funneling of there cut from a yet unaudited source. That’s why it’s so important to give an alternative a majority. We need those other areas checked.
From all I’ve been reading, and other items, the Gomery thing is just a drop in the bucket. The country is not being run by politicians with any integrity whatsever.
Brutal!
Gomery”s head jerks off the desk as he …
“Yeah uh excuse me I interupt you telling me about unreported crime hold on there I’m going to find way to much crime for even me to cover up!!”
Is he afraid that they will have all admitted testimony at Gomery barred from grown up court.
Or he will take the silver and not the lead!!
Double dealin Dirty rats!!!
The mob has the cash and pipelines for the cash.
They work on a percentage.
The juice
No wonder Volpe took such offense to the Libranos poster. It hit a little too close to home. The Natural Governing Party is looking more like The Outfit every day. On that note, you may want to click on my name and check out my latest Dithers photos & captions.
I’ve made jokes about the US Army moving into Canada, but maybe what you really need up there is the FBI.
Yeah, and richfisher points out that the mob works on the juice. I’ve marvelled before here and at the Shotgun that Alphonso Gagliano has ties to the Contrera-Caruana family on the one hand and Don Vito Ruzzio on the other. Ruzzio is connected to dope and controlled street-level crime in Montreal, Toronto and several other cities. The Contrera-Caruana family was also connected to dope (one of the family members was married into the family of Pablo Escobar, and they were also one of the world’s biggest money launderers).
So what would happen if, say, Tony Marselli were to pick up the envelope of the guy he leans on, the money goes in to a highly lucrative drug transaction, huge profits are made, and then the exact amount extorted from the businessman goes into Librano political coffers? There’s no discrepancy between the amount received from the business and the amount that shows up on the books. The mob has received a tremendous payday from a short-term investment. “Everybody’s happy, everybody’s earning, nobody’s getting hurt.”
Note to Fellow Americans: please bring your United States senators and congressment up to speed on the Canadian crisis.
Yea, and no one would believe that it’s to that extent, but when your in a position of controlling the country, you could buy/higher just about anyone. The fact that were hearing about it, and there is testimony to the fact is implication enough.
Brings up a lot of questions about occurrences in the past that have gone un-answered, and all the while, the east acting like sheep to the slaughter, and the west never accepting the ideology. Now you know why there is such division in the country.
This still could have a messy end…. The libranos feel they own and are Canada, and that mentality is with deep rooted corruption will be a challenge to eliminate. We’ve already found out they have no respect for democracy.
Adscam: Kickback Scheme Intentional
It may be somewhat of an anticlimax after the fireworks at Parliament this evening, but the Gomery Inquiry heard testimony today that the money-laundering schemes at the heart of Adscam did not arise accidentally. Daniel Dezainde testified today that J…
Breaking, hugely nuclear, not a joke:
FBI documents apparantly show Gagliano was a “made” member of the Bonnano organized crime family.
Kate you must read here:

“If a nation violates all accepted standards of responsible behaviour, the question is: do we, the international community, have a responsibility to protect in this case, to protect a countrys people from their own government?”
–quote from Paul Martin on his visit to Washington, D.C., 29 April 2004
Since the Liberal Party government has violated all accepted standards of responsible behaviour, should the people of Canada now require protection?

Wasn’t there a Gomery witness who was worried that he might “End up as silt at the bottom of the St Lawrence.”
It was quoted in a replky to a comment I made on the future of Liberalism etc in Canadian Comment
back in February.

Here is some more tidbits to ponder on the mob
http://habamusrodentum.blogspot.com/2005/05/historical-connection-of-hamilton.html
Did I mishear? Am I crazy? Doesn’t anyone else think this is huge?
1)Apparantly yes. I don’t see any mention of lives being threatened
2)Possibly. I believe asking yourself that question is one of the signs. Plus that loose-tie appearance on CBC quoting 1926 No Consequence motions was a little deranged
3)Just the usual lily-livered types who have never had a finger wagged in their face before
Settle down guys. Didn’t this come from a self-confessed criminal trying to get sympathy. And you bought it!
” Didn’t this come from a self-confessed criminal trying to get sympathy”
You know, Shitstirrer is right about that. Dezainde appeared to me to be like a creepy, self conciliatory little worm. No, not a worm, more like a rat (…fink). a la J.K.Rowling’s Peter “Wormtail” Pettigrew from the Harry Potter books. Oh god that’s a nasty bit of visual imagery. Sorry about that.
I’m a meat and potatoes kind of guy so all this talk of “threats of violence” can be taken for what it may very well be: hearsay, self preservation, sympathy seeking, delusion, misconception etc. Bring on the Kroll forensic audit! Now that’s a bit of hamburger I can munch on!
Let see now – we have a Public Works Minister who has _confirmed_ associations to organized crime families. We have more than one witness who has testifed they felt their safety was in question.
$100 million bucks was been stolen in this one program alone, and the trail is going all the way to the top — and you think that guys down the foodchain concerned about their safety are being silly, and those of us who talk about it guilty of hyperbole???
What PLANET are you on?
Bought it…. No, just not taking it lightly with Gagliano’s alleged ties to the Bonanno family. There has been to much come up in the past on both sides of the border to rule it out as a possibility.
I have a whole massive post about gagliano’s ties to the mob, as well as getting the wife of a known mobster an immigrant visa (who then tried to sponsor the husband,) and a whole lot of other stuff here:
http://warwicknews.blogspot.com/2005/05/liberal-and-mob.html
There is a lot of meat to this. The FBI story it only part of it.
Mob Friendly??
Our Queens own printer, and doesn’t need to quote is from Sicily (Billions $$$ ,unbelievable success story)
Gaggliano is from Sicily and indicted by the New Jersey State prosecutor as a “made” member of the Bonnano family.
“Made” is big .
A fast lane for “strippers only” in our immigration system.
Strippers = mob
Even faster when Judy Segro throws them a bone.
Liberal party organizers who operate BC bud grow houses.
If your car blows up there is no question of why,… you’re officially connected to the mob.
We have billions of dollars in unaudited slush funds laying around.
The mob has cash and doesn’t know what to do with all of it the libs have cheques and can’t cash them.
Oh yeah our PM has ships that have coke in them and he lies about the amount of business he does shipping for the guvment.
Please call in the US RICCO guys with guns and laser sights.
I would love to see them kick in Scott Brisons door and walk in back to back with swat team black hoods, head set radios, assault rifles and body armour to clear the room before they grab all the files.
Pathetic that our RCMP just lets it all go by.
No one is in jail … yep last I looked not one of these motherfuckers is in jail.
Business as usual,.. approval rating poll = close tie with the conservatives.
WTF???
Richfisher,
A Member of Parliament once told me that he had been told by an RCMP Officer that Public Works had been infiltrated by organized crime. The cop said he would deny it if asked “under oath” to repeat it. Guess what? The Member of Parliament said he would do exactly the same thing .
Any ideas on who’s running Canada?
Shitstirrer, we are looking at allegations of theft of millions of dollars plus potential loss of enormous political power. These people have a lot to lose. Even without allegations of mob ties (holy shit!) it isn’t hard to imagine threats of violence over this.
More to the point of Coyne’s post, in the CBC interview it was stated that he did testify to having his life threatened (whether that was an accurate statement or not) and the interviewer just let it sit there. I don’t think it was unreasonable to expect some sort of follow up.
This is really starting to turn into an Elmore Leonard novel, without the snappy dialogue.
Everyone knows it squid
Just like everyone now is saying “of course the add fund contracts were rigged , we aren’t that dumb.”
Yet we let the construction firms, real estate firms , food contracts ,printing, highways and bridges, promotional products, helicopters , jets, subs, business subsidies and every other contract be handled in exactly the same way.
We are fucked.
This is why Ontario is so despised, all the faux liberals who are connected some how and who’s interests lie in promoting the same illigal pipeline of our tax dollars will always vote liberal.
When you ask them how they can possibly vote liberal they say
They’re all corrupt look at mulrooney.
There are only two types of people in Canada now , those willing blinded by our tax dollar give away and us.
Let them have their corrupt gigantic nanny state run by the mob, we’ll call it Quebec.
FUCK THEM.
Show me the evidence that Pierre Tremblay was bumped off by the mob and you might pique my interest
The PM is well aware of Mr Gagliano’s alleged connections and has commented on them on occasion. Enter ‘Gagliano’ in the Search Option of his blog for more details
Kate
Same planet (note the lower case) as yourself, you
hyperspace hyperbolist
I just want to point out that if Alphonso Gagliano is actually a made member of the Bonannos, which seems very very likely, then your Public Works minister has in fact carried out a mob hit himself sometime in the past.
If you know anything about the mob, you know that one qualification for being made is that you have to kill somebody. And as Gagliano is from Sicily, it is not likely that this requirement would have been waived for him.
And furthermore, if Joe Marselli wants to get his button (if indeed he does not already have it), then somebody’s gotta go.
If we were to suppose that there is no violence connected to the Libranos’ Racketeering enterprise, then we would have to think that somehow the Libranos were able to run their rackets without the help of gangsters. This would remove all of the traditional practices that La Cosa Nostra has employed in the enforcement arm of controlling unions. A non-violent racketeering enterprise is a fiction.
Shit????? His/its rants are enough to surmise that he/it is the reincarnation of the late “Red_Green”. He of the Watch Tower Society of the sect of Jehovah’s Witnesses; one of the 144,000 of the Elect designated by the sect to enter “Paradise”. The Librano$ are the Watch Tower Society.
His/its rants are vile spewings; evidence of self-loathing; he/it is mouthing Librano$ talking points; his/its rants are the last gasp of a moribund, corrupt Librano$ regime; a regime of a rogue elephant; a rogue regime deserving extinction at the election.
Down with National Socialism.
Long live freedom and democracy.
Richfisher,
I noticed in your comments you mentioned ‘REAL ESTATE FIRMS”. Tonight on CTV Whistle Blower, there is supposed to be a special on the Government Relocation Contract. Watch it ,if you will, and then draw your own conclusions when you consider the connection between the Liberals, Royal LePage, Brascan, Senator Treyor Eyton and CONRAD BLACK!
Duoh !
Missed it
Thanks anyway squid , I’ll monitor guvment wavelengths and look for the rerun from the politburo broadcaster.
Oh sorry it’s CTV…. close enough.
